Another interesting fact is look at germanys helmets in WW I and WW II. What they had in 1914 the United States came to adopt the basic shape of their helmets in the 1980′s. (without the spike) however I am a fan of the brodie helmets of the british and american military at that time, and the adriean helmets of the french and italians. But for basic protection i’de have to give that one to the germans. Its the things like that though that give WW I it’s “flavor” and draws us to it, rhombus shape tanks,. biplanes, uniforms that look very different to “us” so to speak. Poison gas, (which hitler was blinded by for a few days while a corporal in the german. army). Also alot of modern medical advancements came about as a direct. result of WW I. By WW II they had come along way. It does make you think though they split the atom and created “THE BOMB” but they didnt have color T.V… On a widespread basis.

Another point people overlook is “shell shock”, over 30,000 men had to deal with that very physical nervous disorder caused by mental stress and fatigue, and seeing someone with it is very sad. People sometimes joke about “shell shock” but see it firsthand and jokes over real fast. Its bad enough to take ones life, but to leave someone in that state of mind with half a face left and limbs tore off and whats left of their body twitching like parkinsons uncontrolled, is truly worse than death, nobody deserves that living hell. And remember we have modern meds and plastic surgury, all they had was morphine, so you throw a addiction on that too, well we all get the point. WW I, really was the no turning back point of modern warfare, and the world of old “gone with the wind”. Last time you see horses and tanks together on a battlefield too. May we never forget, and may we gain wisdom from our past mistakes, and their sacrafice was not in vain.

It was exactly this sort of not caring a damn about the returning soldiers, airmen and sailors, that The British Legion, later in 1953 Royal, eventually came into existence, too help these poor unwanted souls. The Government was happy to let them be slaughtered, but that was all.
