Yes, that’s right. For some reason, this tragic Montreal fire is most times not mentioned. There was another one too, in the Maritimes, during or after WW II, where many people were killed in what was speculated to be arson.

To vanowensbody, Thanks for a great list of safety tips. I agree. It’s too bad that people sometimes feel that fire is part of the act, or even if they have an odd feeling they ignore it because it took them so long to get to the front of the stage instead of back in the pack. How many people stay/stayed too long because they felt they had finally got a good place to see the band and didn’t want to give it up. It’s amazing that the cameraman at the Station realized right away and you can see as he turns away and starts making his way to the main door early.

Again, at the risk of sounding macabre, when you compare the number of deaths I think the Cocoanut Grove fire is worse than the Station fire.

It's a Top Ten list so it's in order. I'm not sure what criteria the Listmaker used to determine the order. Did ou have any particular reason for thinking the Grove fire should be first?

I may have missed it, and I don't want to come across as macabre or insensitive, but is this list in any particular order? If so, I'm curious – why the Station fire at the top and not the Cocoanut Grove?
