Thank you

Interesting, even though there are many errors in spelling, locations and photos of mountains. If one was to add the real photo of Mount Everest add another section on the Matterhorn, there are some very interesting stories on the Internet and in books about tragedies on this most beautiful mountain.

I would start with Edward Whymper's climb in July 1865, loosing four members on their decent and scaring the remaing father and son porters almost to death.

You have hit upon the root of the problem concerning spellcheck and the internet. Spellcheck does not take the place of a real live person who knows that even if a word is spelled correctly it may not be in proper use. I.E. ascent NOT accent. If one wants to post an article or story on the internet, for God's sake, have several proofreaders/editors go over it! Even if it is just one's mom, dad or circle of friends.

Good list, Dan. A lot of stuff I didn't know. I hope some of our mountain hikers or climbers will learn something from this to help them stay safe.

There were a few typos. A couple of people have said on various lists that they would be willing to check copy for grammar and spelling errors; I wonder if any of those people have contacted Jamie with their E-Mail address so listmakers can take advantage of that. I know from my time on the newspaper that NOBODY should ever send out a piece of copy without having it looked over by others. Trust me, it's much easier for others to see your mistakes than it is for you.

Fantastic list! Maybe the Everest photo should be of Everest though, instead of the Matterhorn. Just a CRAZY idea.

wow, awesome list to remember some of these climbers. I paid homage to Green Boots who died during #3 on Everest was on May 11, 1996. He is not the only person still on the mountain. It is like walking thru a graveyard.
