JFrater and Listverse on Radio Scotland
Published on August 5, 2008 - 60 Comments
Hi everyone. I just wanted to let you all know that I will be appearing on BBC Radio Scotland at 10:15 (GMT) on Wednesday Morning. The topic is on lists and there will also be a psychologist speaking about the psychology of list writing and writers.
If you are near a radio at the time, be sure to listen in! I will try to secure a recording of the session afterwards for posting here. The show I will be on is called MacAulay and Co. You can listen via their website the day after each episode - so if you can’t hear it on the radio, listen on Thursday by clicking the link at the bottom of this page.
Wish me luck!

16. CRSN - August 6th, 2008 at 1:05 am
good on ya’ Jamie, cant wait to here the psychologist speaking about the psychology of list writing and writers.
Me thinks a new disorder may be coined that day “Listversitis”, it might be the only positive disorder you’d want to have
17. henry o - August 6th, 2008 at 2:01 am
CRSN: Yes. Sort of. Listversitis would actually mean suffering from an inflamed Listverse. A common condition round here.
18. jfrater - August 6th, 2008 at 2:07 am
not long till the radio starts!
19. Tempyra - August 6th, 2008 at 2:44 am
Heh… lots of people are going to think Kiwis sound like English now - jfrater has a bit of a British accent
20. jfrater - August 6th, 2008 at 2:57 am
Tempyra: I bet you not many brits would think so
21. Tempyra - August 6th, 2008 at 3:04 am
jfrater: That’s true… but the British are a minority
Cool interview. I laughed when the psych guy talked about the lists of obsessive compulsives (1 Check the door. 2 Check the door. 3 Check the door)
22. jfrater - August 6th, 2008 at 3:37 am
Tempyra: yeah - he was funny for an old guy
23. Hobolad - August 6th, 2008 at 4:55 am
Well good
First Scotland, then the world!

27. bucslim - August 6th, 2008 at 8:38 am
Jamie - I’ll give you a dollar if you mention me. I’ll give you two dollars if you call the psychologist retarted.
28. sgvaibhav - August 6th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Oh man damn,,,,
i live in middle east, UAE, i wanted to listen to you!
I missed a great chance
29. Csimmons - August 6th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Make us proud Jamie! and don’t screw it up! no pressure though….
30. jfrater - August 6th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
bucslim: too late - it was last night
I would have if I had known that - especially considering he virtually called me paranoid!
31. bucslim - August 6th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Jamie - sheesh, foiled by the international date line! That’s the second time I’ve fell for that this month.
32. segue - August 6th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Drat! I missed it too, because I live in America.
Did you get a transcript? You could post that, at least. We might not get to hear your voice, but we could still get the sense of the show!
33. segue - August 6th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
BTW, my gmail, the latest version, as is my Firefox (I check all software updates daily…call me weird)has been off almost all day. It’s still off.
34. jfrater - August 6th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
The recording of the show is available at the link in the article above. Enjoy!
35. warningdontreadthis - August 6th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
I knew incredible recordings was your favorite list jfrater
You didn’t have much of an accent though.
Nah just kidding.
36. JwJwBean - August 6th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
When talking about the educational lists you should have also mentioned the cooking lists. And that your mum even wrote one. But you do “whatever you want everyday”.
37. Ranger - August 7th, 2008 at 3:16 am
Wow, thats amazing
i didnt know we had so many readers, did they request for you to come on or what? big congrats btw.
38. Drogo - August 7th, 2008 at 4:10 am
Too bad I won’t be able to hear it. I’d like to know what a New Zealand/British accent sounds like. (haha)
but Congratulations!
39. Vera Lynn - August 7th, 2008 at 8:36 am
bucslim (27) You did it to me again! I’m still in the LIBRARY. But honestly, that time that kid wrote “retarted” was hilarious. Who put the spin on it? Was it you? “Ooh that pop-tart was so good I’m going to get retarted” (something like that)
40. Blogball - August 7th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I just listened to the radio show. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00cvb7m
The psychologist I thought was kind of a jerk he also hinted that a person who writes lists could have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) I guess he was referring to people that write lists to go about their daily activity. I think he missed the whole point of the website. He also scoffed at the notion that there is any value to lists! I mean com on I have learned so much from this web site.
41. Blogball - August 7th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
By the way Jamie, you did a good job with the interview.
42. jfrater - August 7th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Blogball: thanks
I also found the psychologist to be rather pretentious.
43. Rusty - August 7th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
For those of us with limited time or an adversion to endless banter in Scottish - Jamie’s spot is from 33 - 38 minutes of the show.
44. rushfan - August 7th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Rusty ~ Thank you so much!
45. Geraint - August 8th, 2008 at 1:09 am
I am currently encoding Jamie’s slot to a short MP3 - with his permission i will upload and post it once done.
46. Geraint - August 8th, 2008 at 1:52 am
Jamie has Oked it so here is the link : http://listverse.com/radio_sco.....erview.mp3 - 8.5mb - enjoy
47. Cyn - August 8th, 2008 at 4:09 am
Geraint -
thank you so much! finally, was able to hear the whole thing.
J - i think you came off well even though the hosts seemed to hog the interview. wish they’d stopped w/ all their chatter and allowed you a bit more time to speak. still.. good bit of international advertising for the site. so good deal! hopefully be more like it in the future.
48. rushfan - August 8th, 2008 at 4:26 am
I agree, Cyn. I actually think they were pretty rude and dismissive of site, which I’m sure they would enjoy if they spent any time here.
49. Cyn - August 8th, 2008 at 4:58 am
rushfan -
indeed
J has made mention of having podcasts so maybe he’ll give that a shot. showcase the site and/or a list. *hint hint*

50. Mom424 - August 8th, 2008 at 5:10 am
Thank you Geraint. Most appreciated. I agree Jamie was great (nice voice btw) and the host was shitty; dismissive and overbearing. Oh well, not everyone is perceptive and intelligent enough to see the merit of Lv.
51. meiz - August 8th, 2008 at 5:38 am
Hey Jamie I just knew that you are an opera singer and composer!! Guess Im the last person to know it in this site heheehe..
Keeping up with singing and websiting, u are just great..
52. Denzell - August 8th, 2008 at 5:55 am
Awesome work, Jamie! Keep it up. Publish more lists! This is my favorite site.
53. JwJwBean - August 8th, 2008 at 8:51 am
I don’t think the hosts really read the site at all. Every list that they mentioned were straight off the front page. I doubt they even read the lists they mentioned. It is tough to have an interview with someone who didn’t really do their research. Jamie, you did a great job.
54. Mona - August 8th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Great job at keeping your cool and composure Jamie, even though I’m sure they were starting to burst your bubble. Anywho, that psychologist did not know what he was taking about, they pretty much all came across as rude and a smudge condescending.
You did very well, again congratulations on getting the site some exposure.
Awesome job Jaime and keep up the good work!
55. kiwiboi - August 9th, 2008 at 1:07 am
Heh, just listened to the show. I thought it was excellent, and that the banter was fun.
You did superbly, Jamie
56. jfrater - August 9th, 2008 at 1:51 am
kiwiboi: thanks
hopefully we will get a few new visitors from it!
57. MPW - August 9th, 2008 at 2:16 am
Wow! Jamie, you were great, good job biting your tongue with those pricks.
Very nice voice btw.
58. ENWOD - August 12th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Nice interview, well it was nice hearing about the site from yourself. Those presenters pissed me off no end though.
I’m not entirely sure whether this is a compliment or not XD but you sound a lot less ‘geeky’ than I though you may be.
I enjoyed it nonetheless though.
59. jfrater - August 12th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Thanks for the compliments guys
I will definitely make sure I am sent a list of questions/topics in future!
60. ChristineM - August 16th, 2008 at 4:59 am
Just saw it on BBC TV here in Canada
