A Message From Jfrater
Published on September 23, 2007 - 126 Comments
Hi all. This is the first time I have posted a note rather than a list, but I think the time is right. We are currently getting around 30 thousand visits per day and the site popularity is increasing constantly. So the time has arrived for me to ask you all to tell me what you would like me to do to improve the site. This is also a good opportunity for you tell me the things you most hate about the List Universe and the things you love most.

JFrater, in red, with the List Universe users
So, please use the comments to tell me what you want. You, the users, make a huge contribution already through the comments, and we constantly see new users saying that they love the comments. I have a few idea of my own for ways to improve the site, but before I spend money on developing these ideas, I need to know what you want; that is, after all, the most important thing.
Feel free to be completely candid. Don’t hold back (though I am sure you won’t if some of the past comments are anything to go by!) I write my lists for you and now it is time that you talk to me instead of me talking to you.
In case you are interested, in the last 3 months (since this site started) we have moved from 1.5 millionth popular site on Alexa to 35,771 thousandth most popular. On Technorati we are now ranked in the top 7,000 (from 4 millionth at the outset). I believe that the main reason for this is the enormous amount of great user comments, contributing to each list.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to you all; you are the ones making this site great.
– Jamie

Boy its kinda hard, I love the site. Perhaps the member profiles could be more personalized such as having in depth profiles optional complete with avatars, and having other media (such as games or popular and weird news stories). Oh, you can put an option to change font or italics or size on comments, to a reasonable degree
2. Skyler - September 23rd, 2007 at 2:16 pm
I agree with perhaps adding user profiles, but that is about it. I absolutely love this site, and I’m glad its seeing so much success. Just keep up the good work.
3. jfrater - September 23rd, 2007 at 2:16 pm
ben and skyler: one of the things I am definitely going to do is make the profiles much more personal. I would like to include histories of favorite topics too.
4. matticus - September 23rd, 2007 at 2:18 pm
hi, new to the site (as in, yesterday) and i’m already spreading the word. i think what i find great about this site is links to other sources of information so that the users can expand their mind. whether through wiki or other means. great site, i’ve been on it most of the day today (sunday, working.. kind of.) i think you have a great thing going!
5. Cyn - September 23rd, 2007 at 2:20 pm
i second Ben’s suggestions. more interactivity amongst members would be cool. i do like the widget but maybe have it more customizable? is there a way to show the entries and # of comments posted in one of the sidebars..like keep a running tally of comments made. or is that too much? reason i ask that..i don’t comment on all entries but that doesn’t mean i’d not be interested in seeing what kinda responses those entries get.
just a suggestion to you…pace yourself. do not overdo. this ‘baby’ is taking off but don’t let it overtake your routine. the frequency of posting new lists has been great w/ no loss of quality..i’d like to see that continue but not if it becomes a burden to you and this site. less might equal more.
and again..thank you for setting this site up. i’ve learned a lot. the commentors are wonderful. amazingly few jerks which i don’t know if you filter/censor commenting or not but that is cool considering the # of jerks i’ve encountered at other sites or forums.
keep up the good work!
6. InfiniteJorge - September 23rd, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Survival lists are always good, or lists helping you out in any situation, examples:
How to survive in prison
How to survive a shipwreck
etc.
also, pictures are pretty good. a list by itself is a little bland but when pictures accompany them it’s good.
not much else i can think of; love this site.
7. jfrater - September 23rd, 2007 at 2:34 pm
matticus: thanks
I will keep up the links to other sites - it is important for credibility.
Cyn: Hopefully if I can afford to get the new site built, a better widget will be part of that - it should include the features you are asking for. As far as comments - in three months I have deleted 3 comments which I think is really impressive - the calibre of the posters really is high. In fact, of the ones I deleted, I regret two of them and have changed my opinion of how I should approach them from now on - the best thing is to let people say what they want - unless something illegal happens that might get me in trouble, I won’t delete. Of those three, one was span and the other two were related to that small argument over revisionist historicism (I think you will know the articles this relates to).
8. Juggz - September 23rd, 2007 at 2:39 pm
since comments are a big draw on the site and discussion is so viable on the posts, i think a great start would be to change the comments to allow directly replying to someone. no longer having to post
XXXX: reply.
besides that i love the site and always look forward to lists.
9. ben - September 23rd, 2007 at 2:41 pm
Yea Cyn is right, dont try to overdo the site all at once. Also, i got to thinking, maybe you could have your own profile with a short biography cause i was really wondering how you found time to not only keep the site going, but turning out lists on such a quick, regular scale. Great job, three cheers for jamie
10. Rob - September 23rd, 2007 at 3:13 pm
This site can be improved?!?
I don’t believe it!
11. bucslim - September 23rd, 2007 at 3:35 pm
J - I wouldn’t change much. Your site suckered me in and makes it difficult to be productive at work. Why change what doesn’t need changing? Keep up the good work.
12. Ike - September 23rd, 2007 at 3:48 pm
Maybe use a spell checker once in a while.
Other than that… it’s perfect.
13. mike - September 23rd, 2007 at 3:58 pm
Rocking site Jamie! I recommend it a lot and it’s a Great conversation starter. The joke list was pretty funny but there was some sketch language that could have been avoided.
Did you hear the one about the blonde and the ventriloquist…..
Thanks! Keep up the Great work!
14. uRMOM - September 23rd, 2007 at 4:00 pm
nothing the site is aewsome leave it how it is
15. Hunkie Chan - September 23rd, 2007 at 4:23 pm
this is my first time here and i almost read all articles.. well skimmed through them.. two things i want are a) pictures/video to all the lists b) brief description of each lists.
16. Dunfire - September 23rd, 2007 at 4:25 pm
This site just rocks. I can’t think of anything to change. It is one of the first sites I go to every morning.
Thanks
17. inanytime - September 23rd, 2007 at 4:48 pm
threaded comments will be cool.
dont change anything much. but ya i would like little buttons to upmod/downmod lists. yes, that will be cool, to see the items in the list rearrange themselves according to the votes they are getting.
18. Kelsi - September 23rd, 2007 at 4:51 pm
Jamie, I LOVE your site! I love the intellect and insight I find in all the lists, as well as in the other readers! Very rare on the internet. As the popularity increases, I hope that it is not lost. You, very comprehensively, cover a wide range of topics and nearly every list grabs my interest, which is surprising time after time. I also agree about the profile thing that some people above said…it would be great to be able to interact with these people who have the same interests and appreciations as I do! Blogging is frequently a thankless job, so I take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work.
19. Bill - September 23rd, 2007 at 5:07 pm
its all good…
20. justcas - September 23rd, 2007 at 5:31 pm
I love the site. I have been on it everyday for the last three weeks and now i say something about the site in everyday conversation. I dont think you need to change a thing.
21. RobS - September 23rd, 2007 at 6:01 pm
Snacks.
I would like to see more snacks offered. Perhaps a cool beverage, too.
Other than that, you’ve done a splendid job.
Rob
22. anesb - September 23rd, 2007 at 6:20 pm
I love this site. I check it everyday. I would suggest something more eye catching, the layout is pretty plain and the ads are overwhelming. But other than that, it seems perfect to me.
23. tonybrush - September 23rd, 2007 at 7:04 pm
don’t hesitate to push the limit… freedom of speach baby… maybe you could do lists with multiple vantage points. for instance, top 10 evil men, is relative depending on one’s perspective. you have a list where stalin is #1 and a list where george bush is #4 or a list where ghandi is #2.
24. MC Zippo - September 23rd, 2007 at 7:44 pm
I have to agree with RobS. Snacks would easily push you past google in my opinion.
Anyways I do love the site, found it around 2 weeks ago and check back every day. There is always something interesting to read.
The only suggestion I have is to keep it as simple as it is now. New features are great and I think the personalized profile idea is good too, but you dont want site navigation to be a hassle. In other words i disagree with anesb, I always prefer plain layouts and if you keep the content of this site as good as it has been, the layout wont matter. And the ads arent overwhelming, plus it would be a bad financial decision to remove them as i’m sure with your amount of traffic they are paying off.
Its perfect now, but a few small adjustments wouldn’t hurt I suppose.
Keep up the great work.
Matt
25. Jason - September 23rd, 2007 at 7:52 pm
Honestly, I can’t think of a thing. GREAT site! I look forward to every list.
26. ben - September 23rd, 2007 at 8:37 pm
While we’re on the snacks idea, what about a pizza night every friday?
27. noel - September 23rd, 2007 at 8:57 pm
what i suggest:
- A WYSIWYG editor for the comments.
- I agree to Juggz at 7. A reply function that shows who you’re replying to.
- I also agree to inanytime at 16. A voting system for each comment, maybe not rearrange the lists, but a feature for us to flame the sucker comments and of course give credit for great ones too.
- A search with more detailed features maybe? Either by topic, words within content and users?
- I don’t know the overhead for this, but maybe some functions to collapse and expand the comments? Pages can get realllyyy long.
- A personal list of favourite lists
Some of the features may already in place that I don’t know of hehe.
Awesome site already I must say. Cheers.
28. Carl - September 23rd, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Jamie, firstly, congratulations on your hit rate! Secondly, Great site!!!
I would not change a thing. Cyn made a valid point, the list are quality… this is one of my main draws.
As long as the lists are good, the other goodies can take their time! Leave the typo’s, they make me feel better when i post my comments!
Any chance of a list on 10 things we need to know about Jfrater?
29. Becca - September 23rd, 2007 at 9:27 pm
I like the site but… I like a hundred sites. Could you do full feeds instead of partial? I would love to read all the lists but as it is I can only pop over for the most intriguing.
30. sarah - September 23rd, 2007 at 9:44 pm
First of all, congrats on your success! As for my suggestions to make the site better, I have none. There is nothing I dislike about it. I only wish that I am still able to view the site at work after you make any changes. My office has a huge firewall but as of now I am able to access your site there. Rest assured, if this is not possible I will still be visiting your site from my home computer, as I often do already.
Best Wishes from a Dedicated User,
Sarah
31. soonerproud - September 23rd, 2007 at 11:24 pm
A personal suggestion of mine is to create a list creation page for those of us who cannot code HTML. The page remains hidden until the administration staff reviews, corrects simple errors, (like spelling or punctuation) and then contacts the poster via email to explain why or why not the list will be approved. You could also contact the poster if the list will be approved if they make necessary changes and allow them access to make those changes.
This will greatly increase outside contributors and provide a lot of great new content. If you were to do this, I have a few ideas I would love to post and I would do it for free.
32. jfrater - September 24th, 2007 at 12:13 am
Thanks to everyone for the comments - I am very pleased that you all like the site as it is. I am definitely keen to implement some of these suggestions. While I can code a moderate amount of PHP and HTML, I am not good enough to do the majority of this work myself so I will be needing to pay someone to do it. This means the work will be done bit by bit. From your comments, and my own ideas, I think the priorities will be improved profiles and threaded and rateable comments. I would also like to make some visual enhancements to the site but that will probably take longer.
As far as snacks are concerned, if someone else wants to take on that burden, I will have a Hawaiian pizza
Soonerproud: I do like the idea of user submitted lists for voting. That is going to be quite a big one to implement and we would need to get the profile enhancements done first so it can be tied in to that. This is definitely something I am interested in though.
As far as full instead of partial feeds, I am unable to monetize the feeds at the moment, which is why I use partial. I only make revenue when people come to the site, and with the high price I am paying for the two servers we are running on, I need the site to generate enough revenue to cover it. If we start making more money in the future, I can definitely consider this though.
33. jfrater - September 24th, 2007 at 4:22 am
Okay - I have made a few visual changes to improve the appearance of the site. I hope you all prefer it. Nothing functional has changed.
34. Reea - September 24th, 2007 at 4:25 am
I think you should leave the site the way it is, i love it just the way it is and i really admire the amount of time and work that you put in it.
35. Cyn - September 24th, 2007 at 4:31 am
still looking good.
36. kass - September 24th, 2007 at 5:23 am
I found this site through Ebaumsworld a few months ago and have been a return visitor everyday. bookmarked even.
I think there were only a total of 8 lists when I got hooked. I love how there is a handful of new things to learn each day I log on. I can spend hours each day expanding on the information you post on here by doing a simple search on wikipedia or a search engine. I always learn new and interesting things by visiting your site. Awesome site.
37. jfrater - September 24th, 2007 at 5:24 am
kass: thanks
38. jfrater - September 24th, 2007 at 5:25 am
Guys - take a look at this site: http://www.keyvan.net/code/paged-comments
Tell me what you think of the comments system - they are split in to pages and show from newest to oldest (on listverse it is oldest to newest at the moment). Would you like to see this implemented here or do you prefer to see all the comments at one go?
39. Sid - September 24th, 2007 at 6:32 am
This is the first day I’m commenting on the site after finding it. I enjoy the site a great deal and the first place I check for update everyday. I particularly enjoy comments and I prefer it all be in one go then have to go through pages. It’d be nice to be able to respond to someone directly through some way to quote.
40. jfrater - September 24th, 2007 at 6:36 am
Sid: I agree about the quoting - threaded comments will give us that when I can either get someone to make it or write it myself
I also think it might be nice to be able to send private messages to others.
41. Juggz - September 24th, 2007 at 7:14 am
Jamie i think comments should stay oldest to newest makes for a more fluid read but paged comments would be nice.
42. Scurfy - September 24th, 2007 at 8:42 am
Hey Jamie, as far as gathering and prioritizing improvements, Salesforce.com and Dell both use the same engine for letting people submit ideas and allowing others to promote them. (Kinda like Digging other people’s ideas, not just the articles.) Check out ideas.salesforce.com for an example. Salesforce just released it as a product, but there might be a free/cheap/opensource version out there. or build your own.
43. jfrater - September 24th, 2007 at 9:29 am
Scurfy: thanks for the suggestion - it looks very good.
44. hgaratie - September 24th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
I agree with almost everyone else who has commented and said that the site is great just the way it is. Always interesting and educational. I love it! I’ll take a Hawaiian Pizza also and a bud light =)
45. lynx55 - September 24th, 2007 at 1:50 pm
I totally disagree with adding things such as “How to’s” ….IMHO there are plenty of sites with that type of info. Stay with the “Top 10…” type of format. I would hate to see this veer to far away from the original premise.
46. cassie - September 24th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
well i must say i check your site everyday..its hands down on my top 5 fav list..i dont think you should censor urself..language wise..you already have warnings and that is good enough if harsh or vulgar language is being used..the joke list was a great idea and more interactive lists would be nice as well..but keep up the good work..keep it creative..and scan as many topics as possible..i love the morbid or out there lists!!!
47. amurph - September 24th, 2007 at 7:08 pm
I check the site every day, love it! My favorites are the historical lists. Keep up the good work!
48. Wowzer - September 24th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
I think the listuniverse is excellent. Never fails to provide a source of entertainment for me. Perhaps a user profiles page would be nice, but I’m neutral as far as that goes (some people are complete dolts on their profiles on other sites, what with racism or eltism promotion being what they “are.”) Other than that, I love this place. Eat your heart out, nameless website that I won’t *cough ebaumsworld cough* mention.
49. jfrater - September 25th, 2007 at 12:37 am
Thanks for all the comments - it has been very helpful to me in prioritising the site changes
50. sarahj - September 25th, 2007 at 1:14 am
Jamie the site is great - I love it as it is. I like the way the comments are set out, they are easy to read. Well done, I tell everyone (even people who we do trades with) about this site and how good it is - incl. writing down the url for people. Vonnie and her family are frequenting here occasionally now
51. Marcy - September 25th, 2007 at 1:42 am
Just over a month ago I followed a link to this site from ebaumsworld. This site is amazing, a true oasis in the desert that is the internet. You’re doing a great job here, and you should be very proud of yourself. Please, please, please don’t change it too much. It’s wonderful the way it is. Thank you for continuing to amaze me!
52. jfrater - September 25th, 2007 at 1:51 am
sarahj: hehe thanks - the more the merrier
Marcy: Marcy: thanks
I will definitely keep the changes to a minimum
53. Cyn - September 25th, 2007 at 6:11 am
i hate chatboxes or shoutboards but something like that in either side panel for general commenting not related to a specific entry would be cool. think its been suggested already but an ‘en’ site communicating feature, like private messaging.
something that allows for us to communicate w/ each other and something else that allows for us to communicate in a general way.
54. jfrater - September 25th, 2007 at 7:01 am
Cyn: I agree that that would be a really great idea. I just need to devise a good way to incorporate it in to the site.
55. jfrater - September 25th, 2007 at 7:57 am
okay - I have started doing a bit of work on the profiles. At the very least I should be able to show your usernames and URLs, and any other information you are able to enter when you register. It will take me a bit of time so be patient
56. Cyn - September 25th, 2007 at 8:02 am
i can wait. *taps foot* …well..okay, maybe. *grins*
so like where is that Hawaiian pizza, while i wait? *grins*
57. jfrater - September 25th, 2007 at 8:24 am
Cyn: I am still waiting for mine! I volunteer you to organize the snacks
58. Cyn - September 25th, 2007 at 8:28 am
well forget pizza. i’m from Texas…*sets up taco bar in the right hand sidebar. loaded w/ fixings. meat. cheese. salsa. lettuce. tomato. onions. peppers. course..taco shells. leaves the rest to your imagination.*
will add dessert bar later if ya like.
59. jfrater - September 25th, 2007 at 8:34 am
Cyn: tacos will do fine. And I definitely want a pudding bar
60. conni - September 25th, 2007 at 9:03 am
I agree with simple user profiles with a post counter. ( I like to see how many posts I make =)) Avatars are fun too. I’d also like to be able to link you with myspace. I’ve got a few people hooked on this site now. Strangely enough, I found your site through the Unexplained Mysteries site when a poster referred to one of your lists. I’m pretty sure it was on the recordings list for the exorcism. Even if you didn’t change anything, I would keep coming back. Thanks for all the great entertainment!!
61. Cyn - September 25th, 2007 at 11:17 am
ooooh…chocolate pudding! defo a pudding bar. must have pastries and ice cream too tho.
thank god i just had lunch otherwise i’d be drooling. *grins*
62. JOE ROSSON - September 25th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
Two words come to mind…..WONDERFUL SITE!!!:)
63. jfrater - September 25th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Thanks everyone
Sorry that there were only two posts today. The good news is that the time I wasn’t writing lists was using sorting out a very basic user profile display. So for those of you who have signed up and are posting comments logged in, your user profile is now accessible at this url: listverse.com/profile?USER_NAME, for example listverse.com/profile?jfrater is a link to mine. I have linked the profiles to the nicknames on each comment, so you can just click a users nickname to see their profile if one exists. I will eventually beautify it and add search capabilities. I hope you all like it!
Oh - and if you want to change any of your user profile information, log in and you can click your username at the top right of each page to go to your user profile management page.
Note: there are a few small glitches which I hope to work out tomorrow!
64. Cyn - September 25th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
*blushes* my bad. but i’d not registered until now. is there anyway to backtrack comments made since i’ve kept same name..Cyn. also…uh..ratings? please explain. is this something i should be doing?
looking good. thank you.
65. jfrater - September 25th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
Cyn: It isn’t really possible to backdate the comments or ratings as they are stored in the DB with the userID - that is how I connect them to your name on the profile page.
The ratings are the five stars you see in the box at the bottom of each list - by clicking on any one of those stars you automatically rate the article for quality
It hasn’t seemed to catch on in a huge way yet.
66. Cyn - September 26th, 2007 at 12:43 am
gotcha.
i’m not so keen on ratings. i kinda like this place not being competitive. any changes should be more about user friendliness not about the essential nature of the site itself. therein lies its charm. lists. lists. and more lists. w/ commentary and contributions by the readers.
67. ap - September 26th, 2007 at 7:09 am
I really love the site. thanks so much to jfrater for giving readers like me so much information in a very very organized way. You even give almost daily updates. Hope that you will continue to run the site in the next 124141234 years
68. omer rosen - September 26th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
I would like to translate your post to Hebrew.
If you are interested in that please reply via email
69. Cyn - September 26th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
uh..never mind. apparently can not add images.
70. ben - September 26th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
Ah i missed so many good suggestions in just one day playing Halo 3! whats all this about taco bars and choco pudding
71. Cyn - September 26th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
you play games when you could be here learning something and pigging out on tacos and pudding? heh..your loss.
*snicker*
72. ben - September 26th, 2007 at 4:43 pm
Lol i wont let it happen again I promise
73. cecilia - September 26th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
I love this site. I really would love to see more bizarre lists. I love the history lists. I love the crime lists. I just love it all.
74. rp - September 27th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
I visit this site almost daily. My only suggestion would be to display all lists in descending order. If I see the #1 at the top of the page, I quickly pan down and read the list in reverse, moving up.
Other than that you’re doing a great job.
75. jfrater - September 28th, 2007 at 2:15 am
cecilia: Thanks
I enjoy writing the bizarre ones so hopefully there will be many more
rp: I will keep that in mind - I do generally try to do that on the lists that are in order - not all are rated best to worst.
76. tarheels - September 28th, 2007 at 7:17 am
I agree with rp, always make them a countdown from 10-1.
77. Amber - October 4th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
I would suggest finding a better location for the ads rather than in the actual article or right on top. I love the site though, definitely a new favorite!
78. jfrater - October 5th, 2007 at 2:38 am
Amber: I would like to move them elsewhere but the thing is - those two ad positions are the ones that make the majority of money for the site - without the revenue from them I wouldn’t be able to afford the webhosting even. Hopefully this will all change in time though - fingers crossed
79. Amber - October 5th, 2007 at 8:01 am
Yeah, I figured that was the reason you had them there because it’s pretty clear that you know how to set up a great looking page that is simple, elegant, and easy to navigate. I love the layout and the ads don’t really bother me that much anyways. Besides, it’s obvious the amount of work you put into this website, and I’m sure we can all understand that you deserve to be compensated!
80. jfrater - October 5th, 2007 at 8:04 am
Amber: thanks
I am glad you understand the need at the moment. As I said before, hopefully this is not the permanent solution.
81. Steph Lewis - October 9th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Jamie I am absolutely addicted to your website!!! When there’s sod all on the tv it’s the perfect entertainment!!! Xxx
82. jfrater - October 9th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Steph: hahah - what a great message - thanks
I am glad you like it!!! We have to do dinner ASAP - we are doing all our shopping at Burough Market now - only the best
83. jfrater - October 9th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
Oh - Steph: Check out Heston Blumenthal on UKTV Food at 9pm every night - amazing stuff!
84. Ozhan - October 15th, 2007 at 2:48 am
I dislike white, bad for my eyes. But I can live with it.
85. mags - October 15th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
Im just feel piss off of some list. Really, really.. really piss off and i find that giving a opinions will not help to remove some entries or add another entries.
Democracy, anyone?.
I known, it’s fairly impossible to agreed with all the people but still there are room for some balance or at least to put a classic choice up the list, for example if we are talking about best battles and there aren’t a mention about star wars and star wars was truly a easy bet, there are plenty of fanboys around here to find the miss a mistake (and you can read the comments about it).. but over the comments there aren’t changes on the list.

mags: I own this site and pay a lot of money to run it every month - I write the lists and I have final absolute say on what appears on them. The comments are there so you can discuss the lists with other people and mention things that you would have preferred to have seen on it. On a few occasions I have made changes to a list because of the comments.
Democracy is fine in government, but it is not the way this site runs
If you really hate a list you are welcome to write your own 10 and submit it to the comments - if people agree you will have a lot of discussion there.
87. Cyn - October 15th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
all hail King Jaime! no, seriously. this is a benevolent monarchy. and democracy is highly over rated.
88. jfrater - October 15th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Cyn heh - I think I am just grouchy because the cat woke me up and I can’t sleep! I am pleased to be thought of as benevolent though
89. Cyn - October 15th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
was gonna say, tad early there. and as a former cat slave.. er…mom….you are your cat’s bitch. LOL you must do as the cat demands..no matter time of day. or the cat will have its revenge. otherwise cats are a joy to have around. so long as they tolerate us mere humans. LOL
90. jfrater - October 15th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Cyn: I really wasn’t expecting to be so controlled by the cat! Mind you, I could do with a bit of discipline
91. Cyn - October 15th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
ROFLMAO! oh my. one must be careful in word choice lest one be led astray. years ago, i use to frequent a site where such a comment re: a need for discipline would be pounced on….and no, i won’t.
but yes..once you are owned by a cat. you are owned by the cat. there is much affection in return though…so for me it was a fair trade back in the day.
92. jfrater - October 15th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Cyn: You know, when I finished writing that comment, the very same thought crossed my mind
93. Cyn - October 15th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
uh..nope. i’ll stop now. LOL

97. Clues - November 8th, 2007 at 3:35 am
J: I am real new to your site. My best friend set me a link becuse I write lists all the time nothing as grand as you I might say. I loved the site instantly (She knew I would) and I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s great!
98. jfrater - November 8th, 2007 at 3:59 am
ap: all alone mostly
Clues: thanks - I am glad you like it! Keep coming back - more every day
99. Ozhan - November 13th, 2007 at 10:45 pm
Can you (or I?) somehow change notify mails to daily? I meant, popular lists spam my inbox with 20 replies in one day!
100. jfrater - November 13th, 2007 at 11:52 pm
Ozhan: the code as it is doesn’t allow a digest format - I will see if I can find someone that has modified the original to do that - it would certainly reduce the load on the server!
101. Alexandra - December 3rd, 2007 at 3:31 am
I absolutely love this website.
In the ‘10 Ways to Appear Smarter than what you are’ reading this website should have been top of the list!
Although, some of those evil people lists freak me out a bit!
102. Jade - December 19th, 2007 at 10:46 am
I must say, I absolutely love this site. I stumbled upon it when someone sent me a forwarding email of the 20 Amazing Optical Illusions a few months ago. I am always telling people to look at this site, it is fun, entertaining, and educational as well. It has definitely made it to my top 5 favorite websites!
103. Cyn - December 19th, 2007 at 11:20 am
i appreciate all the supportive comments about listverse. thank all ya’ll for taking the time to do so.
and yes, listverse is addictive! all part of the plan…MU HA HA!
104. downhighway61 - January 1st, 2008 at 9:18 pm
i don’t remember how i found this website, but i absolutely love it. i’m a huge fan of lists myself.
the only thing i don’t like about the website is on the “view all lists page” some of the lists are in multiple categories. kinda makes me think “oooh i haven’t read this one yet… oh… wait… i have.” but other than that, i love it. (i think more travel lists would be awesome, by the way.)
105. tokabul - March 17th, 2008 at 4:43 am
I randomly stumbled across this site about a week ago. It was a link from somewhere. Over the past 3 days I think Ive spent more time at listverse.com than on any other page. The content is fantastic. There is a nice mixture of humor and intelligence. This is my new favorite website.
106. Randall - March 17th, 2008 at 5:11 am
html tags allowed in postings?
Otherwise, the site is great.
107. Thomas - March 24th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
threaded comments would go a long way!
and also a more colorful design, this one is too plain. (I can get you from a designer; email me if interested)
the content is great!
108. Janet - June 10th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
I just discovered your site and every day keep coming back to read more of the lists.I think it is great just like it is and as long as you keep it current like you have been, then I will be back every day and will tell lots of people about it.Keep up the good work.
109. uvberot - June 13th, 2008 at 5:08 am
Modifying a few of old lists to keep them more Up-to-date will b cool..
110. Joanie Girl - August 31st, 2008 at 1:36 am
Hell! Id be damn lucky if you see this comment it hasnt been touched since July 13th LOL
Was introduced to the site 3 months ago and Ive been addicted to it since. I LOVE the new lists and still go through some of the old ones.
I have no idea what would need improving or whatever! Im on here most times during work (when Im not busy) but our system sux so I cant always see the lists I want too
Im not fussed. I like it the way it is..

111. Peter - August 31st, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Hi Jamie,
You created something really special, thanks and congratulations.
Personally I would love to see only positive and beautful lists, since they are in fact influencing people’s thoughts.
Still, hats off and all the best.
112. Colleen - September 10th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
I would just like to say that I love lists. I would always read the random lists on aol.com. But now….I have listverse. Lists are just so perfect. The give you information in a concise way about a very specific topic or a very broad topic. The organize data so wonderfully. Since my discovery of this site, about a week ago, I read dozens of lists per day. And all I can say is keep them coming. I love this website, it is on my toolbar, and I just want more lists to read.
113. squidworth - September 11th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
ur site is v. useful, i use it every nyt 4 da radio show i’m on as a feature.
114. SuperHero3 - September 18th, 2008 at 10:30 am
If you are truly the only person putting this entire site together then you would have to be the most interesting, itelligent, intellectual, and coolest person on earth! I salute you, all mighty J. Frater.
115. YoungSiller - October 29th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Dear Sir,
Im just another one of the 30k vistors who check out ya site every day. Thanks for the knowledge, and may the noble triple gem bless you for that.
And Mr.Frater since youve already mention that its ‘Time ‘ i think that its Time that you make the content more ‘Global friendly’ ( Derived from the term ‘User friendly’ ..:P). I still enjoy your site i mean this should be banned coz its more addictive than crack, the only improvement i can think of is that now since Listverse is Official, now You can Step out from the western world and explore the other parts as well. Lets take your recent lists for example, People Made Famous By Their Deaths
More Great Quotes of Mark Twain
Greatest Strategy Games
Lost Works of Literature
Torture Soundtracks
Infamous Recorded Outbursts
Most Influential Jews In History
these are all western-oriented, I mean most of the past lists are all Based on the western culture aswell. So if you could broaden your horizons it will Benefit the site in Astronomocal proportions and it will benefit the vistors equally. Thank you Very much for your time.
116. coleman - November 11th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Can you make the top 10 most used websites and top 10 computers and top ten most known dinosaurs if you can and finally do the 10 ten candie companies these would be really good!
117. i love corn - November 12th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
I think there should be more warnings when needed, and the warnings should be more specific.
Offend in what way.
118. PastTime491 - November 19th, 2008 at 12:46 am
Hello,
I like this sight and do recommend it to many people. If you would like to broaden your audience I would suggest making a few more mainstream lists. A lot of the music lists have great songs, but many are underground and not known by the masses. Maybe that is the way you like it. I have a few ideas for you.
Top Guitar Riffs
All Right Now: Free (Paul Kossoff on guitar)
No One Like You: The Scorpions (1982, Matthias Jabs)
Running Down A Dream: Tom Petty (1989, Mike Campbell & Petty)
Crazy on You: Heart (1976, Nancy Wilson)
Sunshine of Your Love: Cream (1967, Eric Clapton)
Eye of the Tiger: Survivor (1981, Jim Peterik)
Beat It: Michael Jackson (1983, Eddie Van Halen)
Santeria: Sublime (1996, Bradley Nowell & Eric Wilson)
Spirit in the Sky: Norman Greenbaum (1969, Greenbaum)
Island in the Sun: Weezer (2001, Rivers Cuomo)
Sweet Child O’Mine: Guns (Slash)
Ozzy: Crazy Train
There are many more that could be added to the list, but these are some of my favorites.
Top 10 Youtube videos you have to see. I find myself searching for this through Google from time to time.
I find the photo lists great, War Time Photo’s (including all wars even Gulf War) There are a few Civil War photo’s that are amazing including the only photo taken of live action. You could do a mug shot list.
You could do Top Innocent People found guilty and sent to jail (Ruban Carter), List of most infamous people murdered in jail.
You could do a list on best sports movies, top blown calls and fixed matches. That last one would be very controversial and would be strickly opinion based so I don’t know if that is what you want.
You could do top BigFoot videos. I would find that one facinating. You could do art heists or just robberies in general. You could do top curses. I hope I was of some help and let me know if you would like my help in writing any of the lists I mentioned.
119. Kittykat73 - December 2nd, 2008 at 9:40 pm
More humorous/light heated lists please! The mistimed sporting photos is what brought me to Listverse and the other funnies kept me coming back. Sadly, it seems recently very doom and gloom so something fun would be great! Thanks.
120. Kittykat73 - December 2nd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
‘Heated’ *tuts* Ment hearted. :p
121. coleman - December 4th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
top ten most most visted countries.
122. 6twistedbiscuits - December 8th, 2008 at 4:51 am
ways to quit smoking be helpful. Also ways to help some one who is suicidal beacause there is suprisingly little information online for that.
123. considermecristian - December 10th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Useful, Interesting, Fun site.I never create an account but for this site I made an exception.Thank you.I’m sure all of the “30k” are more than satisfied with your work.
124. Berty - December 12th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
How about putting the comments with the most recently added at the top and not the bottom??
125. SHABBIR - December 23rd, 2008 at 9:30 am
When you come up with a list, how do you get the information? How do you know you are heading in the right direction?
126. macabre_doll - December 31st, 2008 at 10:54 am
I love this site…
