As of today, in celebration of our birthday, we are launching a cookbook concept. What we want is for you to send in your favorite and best recipes and we will put them altogether in to a book. We will probably distribute the book in electronic and hard copy - so you will be able to give them to friends as gifts or keep them on your own bookshelf.

When you send in the recipe, please be sure to use imperial (US) measurements (this makes it easier for us to format consistently). Also, tell us how you want your name to appear in the book - for example we can print your real name and your listverse username, or either of the two. PLEASE also ensure that your recipe is sent in accurately as I may not be able to test all myself.

Today we are launching our first crossword competition. Depending on the responses from you - our readers - this will become a regular thing. The answers to all of the questions can be found on the site - in the main body of the lists. Comments and “Your View” are not included.

The competition will run for one week. At the end of the week, the answers will be posted here, and all correct entries will be added to a draw. One random entry will be selected as the winner - so every correct submission has a chance.

Today being listverse’s first birthday, I am dedicating the list to the site. This is a list of the ten most significant events in the short history of the site. I hope you enjoy the list, and I hope that next year we can have an even greater number of things to add!

Unbeknownst to me, some time earlier this year, BBC Radio did a 30 minute show on the site! I stumbled upon it completely by accident - but what an amazing thrill it was! Fortunately for all of us, it is still on and can be listened to in its entirely here. Many thanks to Jacqueline Alexander who did the show. Be sure to check it out!

Today (July 1) is the first birthday of the List Universe. One year ago today we published our very first list - Top 10 Largest Arms Exporters. If you check it out you will see how far we have come in quality and quantity! With only 6 comments, that list garnered one of the smallest responses from readers - that is no surprise. Compared to the 1,178 comments on the most recent “your view”, we really have come a long way - thanks mostly to you - our readers!

Happy 1st Birthday Listverse!

Now that the first year is behind us, we can look forward to the next year and hope that we get as much growth and have as much fun as we have so far. I am as enthusiastic about the site as I was one year ago today and I have many plans for the future.
