Videocast: Top 10 Most Evil Men
Published on October 6, 2008 - 37 Comments
I have, for some time, toyed with the idea of doing a videocast of some of the lists on the site - to expand visually on some of the lists we have already presented. Today I was emailed by a reader named Paul who has put his own time and effort in to creating a video version of our Top 10 Most Evil Men.
So, first things first, many thanks and kudos to Paul for this fantastic video. It is more than I could have done with my limited knowledge of video and audio production. Paul has taken each item on the list and, combined with excellent choices of audio, expanded on them visually. Be sure to visit youtube and comment - hopefully we can convince Paul to make this a regular thing! If so, I will definitely feature the videos on the front page. So, no doubt you are all keen to enjoy the artistry and history, so here it is:
If you want to read the original list whilst enjoying the great videocast, you can do so here.

This is a great effort Paul - many thanks! I hope that there will be many more to come!

I don’t think Stalin should be #1, and i’m surprised Robert Mugabe isn’t there. But congratulations, and i hope there are more of these in the future!

I really like your site. It is often very interesting and entertaining!
But today, I am not amused by this video: I don’t like the heroic background music of the video. I don’t like the way Adolf Hitler is presented here with the dramatically delay. To me this is an effect to let him appear like a superstar! And the voice of the narrator appears to me as light-hearted and (almost) cheerful.
The whole movie has the appearance of a school project: “I had a task and now I am happy that I am done!”
I am sorry, that I am so strict and hard on this. Again I have to emphasize, that I really like your site. And I know, that my feelings for this movie are not intended by you. No problem as long as this movie is embedded in this site. But without comments on youtube this movie appears maybe just as a list of “cool” men in human history.

Good job Paul. GE it’s not that serious lighten up.
10. DK - October 6th, 2008 at 11:46 am
I love it! Great job Paul! I do hope you choose to do more of these.

Great compilation Paul!
12. JAB - October 6th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Great video, Paul! It was brief, but very informative, and held true to the original list. By the way, your pronounciation of names and locations is supurb, it really makes you sound like an expert. So, again, great video. I hope you’ll decide to do more in the future!

Enjoyable list. I agree with the way it was listed out but you should be more specific as to what makes a man evil. was it his actions or was it his body count or was it his intent? in the end there is no way of knowing just how far some people would have gone with the power that some of these men had at their fingertips. Would Stalin have been so evil if he was just a farmer? Maybe he would have just been a serial killer or wouldve just settled into mediocrity. It is hard to tell till you see what a man can do with unlimited control of the lives of those around him.

well GE, I could have done a boring 10 minute presentation on each person. If you wanted that you could have watched a history channel documentary. The point was to make it brief and exciting not to bore viewers with information.

Thanks for the video. I have a couple of issues that occur with these types of lists, though.
The 1st one is that the majority of the time, it is stated that the Nazis murdered 6 million Jews. That is true and horrific enough. The Nazis additionally murdered roughly 6 million others in their hunger for destroying human life. These were made up of gypsies, POWs, the mentally ill, political opponents and so on.
The 2nd point is that you can’t put your hand on your heart and say ‘Yes, these are the most evil.’ Well I can’t, anyway.
Another Nazi example, the killing squads of Nazi Germany, The Einsatgruppen, were sent out to follow the main army into the East and ‘clear’ the areas of Jews. Some of the stories from that time almost defy belief in their cruelty. Some of the men in those squads, although not all, actually enjoyed their work. So much so, they would kill children in front of their mother before shooting her. Just to see her pain before she got a bullet.
Stories like this go on and on. Perhaps someone who can do that is truly evil and deserves a place on this list.
The number of deaths don’t match perhaps, but the sadistic intent and complete disregard for both human feeling and life is what makes someone evil.
There have been many evil people but we don’t generally hear of them unless they control large numbers of people to do their will.

Paul I rarely post and have been a viewer of this site for nearly a year. I just want to congratulate you on such a brilliant idea. Don’t let anyone turn you off the idea it’s brilliant espcially once a list is already done it really emphasises it well done

Paul, you done a great job! (#14) Usually this type of thing is kind of boring to me. I like the way you put it together. I did not find it boring. Sometimes people are so critical, for what reasons? I’ll probably never know. Shoot! You deserve credit just for the time and patience that it took to put this together! I give you credit!!

25. The_Patient - October 7th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Cool, nice one Paul! Very entertaining, and well done with the pronunciation of all of the names! (I would have struggled with some…)
26. Dawn Bearer - October 7th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Such a wicked work!
27. Dan - October 7th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Stalin should easily be number 1.
28. danmoo - October 7th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
mao should have been included
29. dylan - October 7th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
that was really well done
30. lala - October 7th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I’m not sure Stalin should be number one either. If my history lessons serve me well I seem to remember that Lenins regime killed just as many peopla as Stalins, yet he is considered a hero. Stalins intention was not on the same level as the mass genocide of some of the previously mentioned men. History has a way a favouring those who were victorious.

I think this is a great idea….I mean I spend sometimes hours straight on this sight reading list, after list….eventually I get to the point where my eyes hurt and I can not possibly read anymore but I still want to know what a certain list has in store. Well this way I can click on the video and listen. Ahhhhh Paul you rock!!!
32. princess - October 8th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
I dont think stalin should be number one either. i think hitler and amin dada were worse than him…but great video!!
33. Kyran Wray - October 12th, 2008 at 4:36 am

Hi, I would also add josef Fritzl… I find his Crime such a extreme case of humans history…
35. McSquida - October 12th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Ray Bees - your point about the Einsatzgruppen is a fair one; having read detailed accounts for my tertiary study of some of their exploits, it’s fair to say that it made me feel physically ill. I had to stop reading several times. I have a hard time with top 10 evil lists that don’t include some of the less powerful, but undoubtedly evil, people; i guess it’s hard though since no one really knows anything about the thousands and thousands of evil people who don’t commit widescale atrocities….
36. Filius - October 20th, 2008 at 9:26 am
you forget the bigeest killer in hole world history,
Genghis Kan
50 milion death by his soldier
37. sugen - October 23rd, 2008 at 4:09 am
Wainboy, if you want Mugabe to be there, put in Bush and Blair first. They are a disgrace to humanity. Worse than Hitler, because he made his intentions known.
