Top 15 Best Movie Sequels
Published on November 9, 2007 - 93 Comments
It is a well known fact that a hit at the Box Office frequently garners a horrid attempt to continue an otherwise completed story. For instance, The Matrix, Caddyshack, or Weekend At Bernie’s could quite easily fall into that category. However, just as often the public gets the further adventures of our main characters that actually add life to the franchise. The following 15 sequels are just that: the very best in narrative continuation.
15. Escape from the Planet of the Apes
This is probably the least popular choice on the list, but I am including it because it did such a great job of reversing the morality of the first film - in the original the Humans are treated like animals and kept in cages - in this film, the Apes are studied by humans in the return to Earth in the future. This film is both a prequel and a sequel as we go back in time chronologically, but forward in time sequentially. The only clip I could find for this film is the DVD series trailer.
14. Die Hard 2 (Die HARDER!)
John McClane just wasn’t quite finished dealing death to the bad guys at Nakatomi Plaza, and he felt the need to dish out more than enough thrills and kills in and around an airport. Willis kicks the excitement level up just enough to keep the story alive and well. Twice more since, as well!
13. Predator 2
This time, rather than the jungle, Danny Glover tracks our space monster through the city streets, buildings, and backyards taking over nicely from Arnold. Key scenes in this fine continuation include the healing wound bit taking place entirely in an old woman’s bathroom, and the view of the creature’s trophy case at the end featuring an Alien skull! Sorry, all I could find was this review.
12. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Coinciding with the wonderful children’s book series, the adventure continues with Harry, Ron, and Hermione at Hogwarts. This time, now that Harry is a bit more familiar with his magic, the trio take on a giant Basalisk!
11. Toy Story 2
Originally planned for a direct-to-DVD release, Disney-Pixar decided most wisely to ship this sequel to theaters instantly creating another masterpiece. The search for Woody by Buzz and crew is at most heartwarming and adds a whole different layer to the story.
The wonderful song in the video was nominated for an Oscar.
10. Spider-Man 2
Largely considered to be the world’s greatest superhero movie, the sequel to the amazing SPIDER-MAN movie proved not only that one of the most beloved comic book characters can be translated to the big screen without sacrificing a bit of the humor and humanity brought to the page, but can also be directed by a moan much more well known for horror films: Sam Raimi. Tobey Maguire proved his chops as well by acting every bit the way we all see Peter Parker.
9. Drunken Master 2
In 1978 Jackie Chan became a huge international star (everywhere but in the United States) with Drunken Master . So in 1994 on the brink of becoming a huge star in the U.S. too, Jackie made this sequel/homage to the original. It continues the story of Chinese folk legend Wong Fei Hung. It’s one of his very best films. It was finally released in a slightly edited, specially dubbed version on U.S. screen in 2000. In 2000, they finally dubbed, edited and re-mixed the soundtrack to show Jackie at his very best in an amazing and thoroughly enjoyable action comedy which proves once and for all what an incredible athlete and martial artist Jackie is. This film has some of the most intricate, creative, and beautiful one on one fighting choreography you will ever witness. It’s also very funny and Jackie’s at the peak of his skills and charisma here.
8. Evil Dead 2
When Sam Raimi wrote and directed the original horror classic, EVIL DEAD, with Bruce Campbell, he was only trying to make a film and never anticipated the love he received. Having accumulated enough cash from the flick, Raimi went back to work essentially re-writing the story as a sequel and retelling as EVIL DEAD 2. It’s close to the original, but far superior.
7. Batman Begins
Okay - I realize that this is a prequel - but chronologically speaking it came after, so I am including it. Batman Begins was really the first Batman film that was of truly epic proportions. With brilliant acting from Michael Caine and the best onscreen batman to date (Christian Bale), how could we leave it off?
6. The Bride of Frankenstein
Not necessarily meant to be a sequel per se, the fearful saga of the lumbering and reanimated corpse leaps to a new terrifying level as the good doctor creates woman. The bride turns out to be even more horrifying than original!
5. Aliens
Ripley finds herself on a planet supposedly overrun by the very alien life forms she desperately tried to avoid in the original. With amped-up action and an all-out war with the bugs, Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, and Lance Henrickson join the superb cast to do all out battle.
4. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Actually a prequel, though still the second in the story, the TEMPLE OF DOOM follows our hero, Indiana Jones, making his way around the world to India in order to rescue the Shankara Stones from the evil Mola Ram. Tagging along this time are Stephen Speilberg’s real-life wife, Kate Capshaw as a Hollywood dancer, and the every bubbly Short-Round. Most disgusting scene: Monkey brains! Oh, and those bugs, “aren’t fortune cookies!”
3. The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers
Peter Jackson did everything humanly possible to cram every bit of the Tolkein books into his sprawling, gorgeous trilogy. But even with that, there had to be a second movie and that had to come after the release of THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING. The cliffhanger left the audience wanting so much more, and THE TWO TOWERS more than delivered. It would prove to be epic.
2. The Empire Strikes Back
Some of the most startling revelations ever brought to screen, the sequel to STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE gave the world the paternal Darth Vader, the patriarchal Yoda, and the growing love between a space scoundrel and a princess. Directed by Irvin Kirshner, the stark differences between the bleached frozen wasteland of Hoth, the wispy calmness of Cloud City, and the earthy filth of Dagobah, proved his creative worth to the original trilogy. The Jedi attains truth through the Force, and shows us just hour dour and unsettling the galaxy far, far away can be.
1. The Godfather Part 2
The Corleone family made us feel the raw, underhanded grit of being inside the Mafia. And much like a family in reality that we’ve all grown to love, they return in nearly a much stronger movie than the original. Perhaps the most well-known and most beloved sequel ever made, THE GODFATHER PART 2 continues to be a classic seen the world over.
Notable Omissions: Dawn of the Dead, Terminator 2

Clerks 2 should be on the list. It was even better than Clerks.
2. jfrater - November 9th, 2007 at 5:37 am
Ginger Lee - I haven’t seen Clerks 2 but I own Clerks - it is a great film!
3. Jim C - November 9th, 2007 at 6:03 am
No T2?
Alien is to Aliens as Terminator is to Terminator 2.
Both originals were sharp, smart sci-fi movies that relied more on a good story than special effects. Both were followed by mega-Hollywood Bruckheimer-style blockbuster sequels.
4. evan - November 9th, 2007 at 6:24 am
i agree terminator two should be on there more than predator 2.
and also, i love drunken master, such a great movie
5. jfrater - November 9th, 2007 at 6:25 am
okay - Terminator 2 is added to notable omissions now
6. Ravyn - November 9th, 2007 at 6:26 am
Drunken Master 2 (and Drunken Master)…great films. I love that movie so much.
Another great sequels, though the first part is a game, is Final Fantasy: Advent Children.
And for the record… Clerks and Clerks 2 (and any Keven Smith movie) just are beautifully hilarious movies.
7. Ozhan - November 9th, 2007 at 6:33 am
I hated BatmanBegins because tat Batman is a philsoper and soft enough to not to kill people. But batman is a badass and a problemed guy.
Im not familiar with Harry but that movie was disapointted me becasue he only use one light magic and he killed the level boss with a sword! What kind of wizard he is
:P
8. Ginger Lee - November 9th, 2007 at 6:41 am
Or maybe Mallrats would be the sequel to Clerks since it’s called the “Jersey Series”? Just a thought.
9. Kelsi - November 9th, 2007 at 6:41 am
Pardon my ignorance, but what is Dawn of the Dead a sequel to?
And I totally agree with this whole list! I am a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan and I’d have to say filmwise that the Two Towers is my favorite (although I like Return of the King the best as far as the books go. Strange.), and I love the Battle for Helm’s Deep scene! In MY opinion, it is the greatest battle scene ever put on film. But I know you have another list for that. =)
10. Randall - November 9th, 2007 at 7:00 am
jfrater:
You forgot about “French Connection II.”
11. Cat Skyfire - November 9th, 2007 at 7:24 am
T2 would have been a better choice than Temple of Doom. Temple of Doom is one of those movies you scrub your eyeballs with bleach after watching. Now, the 3rd Indiana Jones was a fitting sequel…
12. jfrater - November 9th, 2007 at 7:34 am
Wow - everyone is a critic today! Friday blues?
13. Black Lutefisk - November 9th, 2007 at 7:34 am
Ginger Lee: Mallrats exists in the “Askewniverse” along with Dogma, Chasing Amy, and the others. But Clerks 2 is a genuine sequel (and very much worthy of the list).
JFrater: While it is definitely praiseworthy, JFrater, Escape from the Planet of the Apes is the third film in the series (I think Battle was second).
14. jfrater - November 9th, 2007 at 7:36 am
Black Lutefisk: you are right - it was third in the series - but I cheated with Batman begins so I figured I would cheat with Planet of the Apes too
Nice nick btw
Oh - the second in the series was Beneath the Planet of the Apes I think - not Battle.
15. Jim C - November 9th, 2007 at 7:49 am
Dawn of the Dead is not a sequel. Evil Dead 2 is, shockingly enough, a sequel (sort of) to Evil Dead.
jfrater - you got us going by leaving T2 off the list!
While everyone’s ranting, I may as well include my rant that “Temple of Doom” and “Predator 2″ don’t fit well on a list of ‘best’ sequels. Both paled compared to the originals.
16. DiscHuker - November 9th, 2007 at 7:57 am
great idea for a list jayfray but predator 2? are you kidding? the first one barely hovered above the absurd line, now take out the cool setting, the roid-ed up super-hunters and the unknown factor of the predator and you get a bad sequel.
ozhan: are you serious? that batman was soft? go watch that trash with george clooney again and then watch christian bale. let me know if anything changes.
this is a great topic for debate…i feel that return of hte king was the better sequel, however much i like two towers. just the scale of the last battle made me feel sick for all involved. i was drawn into the emotion of the fight and the desperation of the good guys.
ahhh. movies are great.
17. Yarr - November 9th, 2007 at 8:00 am
Kelsi-
Dawn was the sequel to Night Of The Living Dead.
Dawn should definitely be on here, as well as the remake. They are both great.
Ozhan-
I know I’m going to sound like a complete nerd here, but Batman is my all-time favorite, so here goes
Batman isn’t supposed to kill people. You’re thinking of the Punisher.
The thing that always made Batman/Bruce Wayne unique was his obsession with justice. He was not in it to hurt or punish criminals. His purpose was to hunt down and capture the ones that the police either could not or would not catch on their own. His obsession caused him to believe that he alone was above the law, but he was always afraid of becoming just as bad as the ones he hunted. (This is why he doesn’t carry a gun- he’d too often be tempted to use it.)
His role as a vigilante was such that he could, as a ‘citizen’ (and shadowy urban legend) track criminals down, find evidence of their crimes, and maybe beat them up. He would then set them up to be found by the police, evidence and all, so they be prosecuted by the system. When Batman has had to kill or let someone die, it was either out of self-defense or because he couldn’t save them.
I loved the Tim Burton Batman movies, but I was always a bit bothered by how Batman just gunned down all those bad guys. This was way out of character and kind of cheap. Even my dad was like, “Batman isn’t supposed to just shoot people. He’s supposed to use some gadget that puts them to sleep or something.”
Batman Begins is the best of the franchise because the Batman character is as obsessed, tortured, and driven as he is in the comics. Batman is a philosopher, and he is hesitant to kill, but I don’t think it made him soft. It’s easy to pull a trigger. It’s much harder to try to save someone that you know deserves to die.
18. Jim C - November 9th, 2007 at 8:09 am
re: Dawn of the Dead sequel.
Ooops, my bad.
19. Barabas - November 9th, 2007 at 8:19 am
I dont really see why there are sveral parts of Trilogies are in the List.
LOTR for istance just isnt a sequel, since it was filmed while the first and the third part were shot and the story of course is nothing without the other parts…
20. evan - November 9th, 2007 at 8:29 am
Yarr, you are completely wrong, go read up on the actual origins of batman, he did carry a gun and did kill people! thats why he got the nickname of DARK knight. he used to execute the criminals with a pistol but this original batman was “too dark” so they changed his image to be more pc.
21. Shane S. - November 9th, 2007 at 8:49 am
And where is Breakin’ 2: Electric Bugaloo?
22. Sarah - November 9th, 2007 at 8:49 am
The two movies that immediately came to mind when I saw the title of this list were The Godfather Part 2 and The Empire Strikes Back, so I was very happy to see them at numbers 1 and 2. Temple of Doom is right up there as well!
23. evan - November 9th, 2007 at 8:51 am
hahahah nice shane s.
24. Yarr - November 9th, 2007 at 8:54 am
Evan-
The Punisher was originally a hired assasin, but that’s not what his character was eventually developed to be. Wolverine was originally a villain too. Superman started out only able to “leap tall buildings in a single bound”… in other words, he couldn’t fly.
The Green Lantern has been revamped so many times it’s impossible to know which story is ‘true’.
It is true, in the very early days Batman was a killer. So what? His character was revamped and his backstory rewritten to reflect the character I described above. When DC relaunched its entire universe during the Crisis series in the late 80’s, the Batman that they kept was the tortured vigilante that didn’t kill unless it was absolutely necessary.
Frank Miller’s ‘Batman-Year One’ told the story of a Bruce Wayne who, as he was developing his persona and skills, wore a ski mask and carried a gun. (and got his ass kicked a lot) ‘Year Two’ explained why he eventually stopped carrying the gun, as well as his problems with being hunted by the police while he was trying to help them. These stories are the generally accepted versions of Batman’s origins, and what the modern series’ are based on for the most part.
The fact that a character with the same name executed criminals in the 1940’s before they changed him does not mean that Christian Bale’s Batman was ’soft’.
25. Black Lutefisk - November 9th, 2007 at 8:54 am
The list, aside from #15, features movies that are the follow-up to the last one. Empire and Two Towers continue the story without completing it, but they are the sequels.
You could do a trilogy list. But even more interesting would be a list of movies where the THIRD film is better than the first I can immediately think of Return of the King, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, and Nightmare on Elm Street. I’m sure there are others and would make for good debate afterwards.
26. Erwin - November 9th, 2007 at 9:20 am
@evan IMO they also descarded the guns quickly because they were afraid they plagiarized The Shadow too much.
Not killing in a 30´s Pulp Novel/Comic Book was as bold a step in storytelling as killing in the 80´s Comics.
27. Yarr - November 9th, 2007 at 9:21 am
“The first issue of Batman was notable not only for introducing two of his most persistent antagonists, the Joker and Catwoman, but for one of the stories in the issue where Batman shoots some monstrous giants to death. That story prompted editor Whitney Ellsworth to issue a decree that the character could no longer kill or use a gun.”
Quoted from Wiki…
And Sorry, it’s been a long time. I forgot that Year One pretty much wrapped up the gun issue, and that Year 2 just revisited it. The Batman story is not based on Year 2, just Year 1.
Mybad
28. Ozhan - November 9th, 2007 at 9:22 am
About Batman… Was it the movie or cartoon that he killed one outlaw and let other live with “go tell others Ive arrived” speech…
Anyway, I admit I learned batman from 90s cartoon and movies not comics.
29. Ozhan - November 9th, 2007 at 9:26 am
By the way, I cant edit my posts?!
Remember the last scene of BatmanBegins, he says to bad guy “I cant kill you but i dont need to save you” Just kill the bugger already
:P
30. Black Lutefisk - November 9th, 2007 at 9:28 am
More movies where the third might be better than the first: Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Chasing Amy (if you’re going to go Askewniverse), Army of Darkness, and (debatable) Back to the Future III.
31. evan - November 9th, 2007 at 9:28 am
something is bugged with some people and their edit options, jfrater has been looking into it.
to yarr and company, i understand the difference between what he has developed into and origins, guess thats a problem with comics and how they continually revise the characters history and such, youre not sure what one is being referenced.
32. evan - November 9th, 2007 at 9:30 am
best comedy movie about golf: Caddyshack
worst comedy movie about golf: Caddyshack 2
33. Yarr - November 9th, 2007 at 9:46 am
Ozhan-
That’s a scene from the ‘89 Tim Burton movie, but it’s also been in countless ‘origin’ scenes and flashbacks in the comics through the years…
34. Ravyn - November 9th, 2007 at 10:38 am
Ginger Lee: Actually Mallrats is the prequal to Clerks. What? Don’t believe me. Well, the funeral that Dante and Randell attend in Clerks is the one for the girl who died in Mallrats after being told the camera would make her gain 10 pounds before she was to guest on the show that was being set up in the middle of the mall. She was doing laps in the swimming pool and ended up drowning.
Just for referance…
35. Juggz - November 9th, 2007 at 10:56 am
Ravyn: that death is referenced in the beginning of Mallrats the way i see it it still makes clerks before the Mallrats in the timeline or at least taking place during the first part of mallrats
36. ianrey - November 9th, 2007 at 11:16 am
I dunno; in my opinion, Die Hard 2 was the worst in the series. It had good action, but laughable dialogue and characters, was riddled with significant errors - enough to shake anyone’s suspension of disbelief, and had plot holes big enough to fly hundreds of planes through.
I agree about Terminator 2; it was a sequel that ultimately surpassed its predecessor. In that vein, Wrath of Khan is usually regarded as the best Star Trek movie, for what it’s worth.
37. Juggz - November 9th, 2007 at 11:17 am
Nevermind Ravyn I found somethingthis on wiki
In Clerks: The Lost Scene it is revealed that Mallrats takes place one day before Clerks.
I stand corrected, shame on me for opening my mouth before doing research.
38. steve - November 9th, 2007 at 11:32 am
There were 3 movies i thought of when i saw this list, Spider Man 2, Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, and Terminator II Judgment Day.
I’m glad to see that both Star Wars and Spider Man were on the list.
But really Terminator II is considered one of the greatest sequals to improve on the original.
Spider Man 2, Star Wars V, and Terminator II would be my top 3, in some order that i would probably spend a week trying to figure out. And I am very sad that Terminator II isnt on the list.
I never really liked The Godfather series, but I know they are good, but I just don’t think it should be number 1.
As for Indiana Jones And the Temple of Doom, Last Crusade was better by alot.
And am I the only one who doesn’t like Die Hard II as much as Die Hard With a Vengeance (and, Die Hard is my number one favorite movie of all time)
The only real problem i have is Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings, those were books, and were guaranteed to be made into a movie, so it’s really the books that should get the praise, not the movies.
anyway, the rest of the list is pretty good.
I know as soon as i post this i will think of a few other movie sequals.
39. Tosca - November 9th, 2007 at 11:51 am
I agree absolutely with Batman Begins. I’ve not been able to watch any other batman films the whole way, as they just weren’t believable enough. Batman Begins was just fantastic, especially Cillian Murphy as Jonothan Crane.
40. StewWriter - November 9th, 2007 at 11:51 am
Hey guys! Thanks for all the great comments! This is actually my list, with a few additions and rearrangements, but otherwise, it’s mine and I have to say I TOTALLY blew it on forgetting Terminator 2! I was obviously under the influence of some kind of illegal substance… or perhaps just ignorance. Anyway, I knew when I created this list I was bound to get many different comments in a variety of directions so it’s nice to see that come to fruition and I hope the debate can carry on for a while. Also, when I wrote it, I had EMPIRE as number one… but evidently JFrater decided I was WRONG (I kid, I kid), it just so happens that I am a HUGE original trilogy fan and plan to do a list based around that real soon. Keep on keepin’ folks, it reads great!
Stew
41. StewWriter - November 9th, 2007 at 11:55 am
ianrey: I agree whole-heartedly about T2 and I hope a heart-felt apology for my sad omission will suffice… for now. Also, good call on WRATH OF KAHN, perhaps one of, if not THE best in the TREK series, and I’m really not much of a fan…
42. JMurf - November 9th, 2007 at 11:55 am
I hear they’re making a Pulp Fiction II
Please dont let this be true
43. steve - November 9th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
i knew i missed one The Wrath Of Khan, add that to my top 3 from above, and then make it top four i guess…
44. Hannah - November 9th, 2007 at 12:27 pm
What? No “Father of the Bride Part II”?? I’m shocked! I’m also joking…
But, what about “Back to the Future II” and Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom”? Okay, granted they aren’t the greatest, but they were great!
Glad to see “Toy Story 2″ on the list. In some ways I thinks it’s better than the original.
45. torn and frayed - November 9th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
I don’t think Batman Begins should even be considered a sequel. It has nothing to do with the other Batman movies becuase they were so lame. It’s more of a remake than a sequel.
And I agree, T2 should be on the list instead of Predator.
As for that trilogy idea, how ’bout Day of the Dead. I think it’s the best zombie movie ever made.
46. torn and frayed - November 9th, 2007 at 12:33 pm
Oh, and Evil Dead 2 was NOT superior to the first! It was the segway from the horror of Evil Dead to the comedy of Army of Darkness.
Evil Dead 1 rules!
47. Hannah - November 9th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
I agree with torn and frayed about Batman Begins. It was a remake, not a sequel.
48. Oyster - November 9th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
toy story two… awesome!
49. Ravyn - November 9th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Juggz: Considering the fact that
1. The death was mentioned in the beginning of mallrats as having happened the day before
2. The events of mallrats happening over a course of one day
3. The events of clerks happen over one day
4. They went to the girls wake in clerks.
5. Wakes don’t happen before the death has occured
6 Keven Smith even says that mallrats is the prequal
I think it is pretty safe to say
MALLRATS IS THE PREQUAL TO CLERKS!!!
thank you I am here til doomsday
50. Ravyn - November 9th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
Since I can not edit for some reason I will double post.
Juggz: Shame on you for opening your big mouth before researching…shame on me for opening my big mouth before reading more comments
51. dvhann - November 9th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Evil Dead 2 is hilarious, the entire series is great.. the original still gives me chills when they deadites start singing “we’re gonna get you, we’re gonna get you, not another peep, time to go to sleep!”
and Army of Darkness.. well, its still one of the greatest bit of film making in my mind.
52. MadBess - November 9th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
No Ghostbusters 2? That is my favorite sequel.
53. Rose - November 9th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
How about Lethal Weapon ??
54. mattayeaux - November 9th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
Star wars 2 would have to be the besr sequel to prequel. Just because there probably isn’t another sequel to a prequel ever made. Is there?
55. Milarc - November 9th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
I’m probably the biggest Batman fan on this site, and I agree that Batman Begins is absolutely fantastic, but IT SHOULD NOT BE ON THIS LIST! It’s not a prequel OR a sequel - it was a complete reinvention of the franchise, ignoring the other films completely and starting anew. Take it off!
56. The Dum Guy - November 9th, 2007 at 11:58 pm
Milarc– I agree, Batman Returns is the best Batman sequel, ever.
Rose– Didn’t one of the Scream movies (I believe Scream 2) already address the importance of Lethal Weapon 2 in the history of sequels? I think that it easily should rank above Die Hard 2.
In fact Bruce Willis doesn’t even like that movie, it is his least fave of all the Die Hards, he says “First, I can seldom sit thru DH2…Since they have existed, I always said the first Die Hard was the only good one. I will go on record here as saying that Live Free or Die Hard is better than the first one. Take it from a guy who was there for all of them.” see: http://www.aintitcool.com/talk.....nt_1551741
57. bla bla bla - November 10th, 2007 at 4:11 am
what about terminator 2 ?
58. Matt Dovey - November 10th, 2007 at 6:29 am
There’s some grand choices on here, though I have to echo the T2 calls.
The LotR one is a tough one - my instinct is to go with RotK because it rounds things off, and TT was a bit schizophrenic at times; but if I think about it, RotK had the long goodbye at the end, and the characters were even more separated. As epic as it is, I suspect I do really prefer TT for all its Rohirrim fun.
Harry Potter, though, no no no. The first two films (dir. Chris Columbus) were flat, unimaginative adaptations of the material, before the kids had found their feet. I’d say it was between 3 & 4, they were shot with much more love and verve.
59. Spechal - November 10th, 2007 at 10:28 am
IMHO Mad Max 2: the road warrior was even better than the first one, and should be within the first 5 of this list.
60. rp - November 10th, 2007 at 10:49 am
Great call on Road Warrior. Fortunately, it was made before Mel Gibson went apeshit.
61. Monkey - November 10th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
Evil Dead scared the CRAP out of me. You know that scene where the zombie jumps out from behind the shower curtain? I was afraid to go in my bathroom at night for weeks. Needless to say I never saw Evil Dead 2.
62. bobg - November 10th, 2007 at 5:52 pm
Here’s why The Godfather Part 2 is not as good as you think it is:
A movie you don’t like as much as you think you do
Here’s why The Empire Strikes Back is not as good as you think it is:
The exegesis strikes back
Cheers,
- Bob
63. Jesus McJew - November 10th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
Good list. What about a list of the best trilogy ending movies? Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi come to mind….
64. Jesus McJew - November 10th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Question though: why do you not like the 2nd matrix movie?
and P.S. Harry Potter = crap.

bobg: very interesting links - thanks.
Jesus McJew: I am not a fan of Harry Potter either - I am relying on the good taste of the people who submit lists for the site - I try not to remove things that I wouldn’t pick myself. Everyone else seems happy with the choice so I think I did the right thing in leaving it there.

now all we need is a list of the best part 3’s!
i cant believe back to the future aint on here-but it will be on the part three list..
67. bucslim - November 11th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Sorry Jfrater - the second Harry Potter movie sucked harder than an airline toilet, so did Die Hard 2.
Although, it’s difficult to pick a sequel because these days, they just keep making more. No objection to GF2 being #1, but I do think Terminator 2 should have been in the top 10.
I really liked Clerks 2, I though it was going to destroy the original, but it was a nice addition to the Jersey Series.
68. Sarah - November 11th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
I think clerks 2 should definatly be on there…
but its pretty good besides that.
Toystory 2 rocks!
69. Emily - November 11th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
toy story 2 is a great movie, but geeeez do I hate that song in the clip!
70. Jimmy - November 11th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
Predator 2 but no T2? I thought Predator 2 was dreadful. Was I the only one?
71. jbjr - November 19th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
I agree with those who said wrath of khan. this is a very cool site.
72. dofnup - November 20th, 2007 at 10:39 am
Great list!! I agree that T2 should be on it, other than that, my only change would be to make Empire #1 … it is and always will be my favorite Star Wars movie! But that’s just MHO, of course ^_^
73. davo - November 21st, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Batman Begins was awesome but it is neither a sequel nor a prequel. It is a franchise reboot.
74. craig - December 4th, 2007 at 1:28 am
Am I alone in thinking Scream 2 was awesome? In some ways I enjoyed it more than the original, which was already amazing.
75. miss_ali1984 - December 19th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Yay Evil Dead 2!
Clerks 2 was good too.
76. el duderino - January 3rd, 2008 at 12:32 am
Temple of Doom blows. It would have been a much better movie if that obnoxious, annoying blond and the twerpy Vietnamese kid got devoured by vampire bats.
Godfather II is unique in that it surpassed what is probably one of the best films of all times.
77. nthoms - January 5th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I’d definitely agree that Terminator 2 belongs in such a list and I consider Live Free or Die Hard to be better than any of the previous three.
78. mitchsn - January 21st, 2008 at 12:11 pm
This website just lost a lot of credibility with my by sticking Predator 2 and Die Hard 2 on this list of supposedly Best Sequals.
79. Trevor - January 23rd, 2008 at 12:10 am
Batman Begins isn’t a prequel to the first Batman movie, it is a re-start to the Batman franchise, if you watch Batman Begins and then watch Batman you can see they are not meant to be telling the same story.
80. Susana - February 22nd, 2008 at 6:07 am
What,no Bring it on 2? jus kiddin.
81. Rolad - February 25th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Great list. I always thought Predator 2 was one of the darkest and most origional sequels ever.
I also think the Devil’s Rejects was another sequel superior to the origional.
82. Batman - March 11th, 2008 at 9:43 am
Batman begins is not a sequel. It has nothing to do with the other movies.
83. shawn - April 8th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Scream 2, I Still Know what you did last summer, saw2
84. Anon - April 20th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Where’s The Road Warrior?
85. islanderbst - April 20th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Someone has to know about Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, itwas real good.
And for that bobg guy that had the link to a 1000 word essay ripping on Empire Strikes Back scene by scene, that was pretty ridiculous. You should have put that effort into something productive like volunteering in the community.
86. nelson - July 8th, 2008 at 5:10 am
lord of the rings 2 towers
87. Ellen - July 9th, 2008 at 1:03 am
I didn’t think the second Harry Potter movie was all that good, actually. The best Harry Potter sequel is without a doubt Prisoner of Azkaban (sp?). Of course I don’t know if that’s a sequel or a threequel..or whatever.
And also I’m pretty sure Batman Begins is not a sequel. But the Dark Knight is probably going to prove to be a great sequel to that movie!
88. Grubermeister - July 23rd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Batman Begins is not a sequel. It is in no way connected to any of the other Batman movies besides The Dark Knight. It was the dawn of an entirely new series of Batman movies.
89. rick - August 3rd, 2008 at 6:16 pm
they should update it bc “the dark knight” beats all of them lol
90. Egg - August 7th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Legend of Drunken Master is one of my fav. movies. I like this list because it shares my tastes
91. Dave - August 10th, 2008 at 1:57 am
Clerks 2 is a strong sequel. In many ways I liked it better thant he first.
The Dark Knight is incredible. The list should be updated and it should be put in front of Spiderman 2 but I’m not sure I can put it in front of The Godfather Part II or Empire.
92. Euan - December 6th, 2008 at 12:29 am
Lord of the Rings sucks. Period.
Spider Man films are bad also, and in one of the first scene’s in that one, in the bank or something, there are like 8 consecutive cases of pure coincidence in a row.
And Predator 2? Really? Come on man, Danny Glover kills a Predator? That old guy with a beer belly does better then Arnold and a team of elite Commando’s? You gotta be kidding me..
