Top 10 Weirdest Movies
Published on August 3, 2007 - 198 Comments
Looking for some weekend viewing? This is a list of the weirdest films ever. I have restricted the list to one film per director and I have not included obviously weird films from the Dada movement. These are the sort of movies that leave you saying WTF as the credits roll. Ordered least to most weird. Torrent links included.
10. Me and You and Everyone we Know [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: Miranda July
‘Me and You and Everyone We Know’ is a poetic and penetrating observation of how people struggle to connect with one another in an isolating and contemporary world. Christine Jesperson is a lonely artist and “Eldercab” driver who uses her fantastical artistic visions to draw her aspirations and objects of desire closer to her. Richard Swersey (John Hawkes), a newly single shoe salesman and father of two boys, is prepared for amazing things to happen. But when he meets the captivating Christine, he panics. Life is not so oblique for Richard’s six-year-old Robby, who is having a risqué Internet romance with a stranger, and his fourteen-year-old brother Peter who becomes the guinea pig for neighborhood girls — practicing for their future of romance and marriage.
9. Donnie Darko [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: Richard Kelly
During the presidential election of 1988, a teenager named Donnie Darko sleepwalks out of his house one night, and sees a giant, demonic-looking rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. He returns home the next morning to find that a jet engine has crashed through his bedroom. As he tries to figure out why he survived and tries to deal with people in his town, like the school bully, his conservative health teacher, and a self-help guru, Frank continues to turn up in Donnie’s mind, causing him to commit acts of vandalism and worse.
8. A Clockwork Orange [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: Stanley Kubrick
Stomping, whomping, stealing, singing, tap-dancing, violating, Derby-topped teddy-boy hooligan Alex (Malcolm McDowell) has his own way of having a good time. He has it at the tragic expense of others. Alex’s journey from amoral punk to brainwashed proper citizen forms the dynamic arc of Stanley Kubrick’s future-shook vision of Anthony Burgess’s novel. Unforgettable images, startling musical counterpoints, the fascinating language used by Alex and his pals - Kubrick shapes them into a shattering whole. Hugely controversial when first released, A Clockwork Orange won the New York Film Critics Best Picture and Director honors and earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The power of its art is such that it still entices, shocks, and holds us in its grasp.
7. Delicatessen [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: Marc Caro, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet
The story is centered on a microcosm of a post-apocalyptic society where food is so rare it’s invaluable and is used as currency. The story centers on an apartment building with a delicatessen on the ground floor. The owner of the eatery also owns the apartment building and he is in need of a new maintenance man since the original “mysteriously” disappeared. A former clown applies for the job and the butcher’s intent is to have him work for a little while and then serve him to quirky tenants who pay the butcher in, of course, grain. The clown and butcher’s daughter fall in love and she tries to foil her father’s plans by contacting the “troglodytes”, a grain eating sub-group of society who live entirely underground. The “trogs” are possibly the most sensible of the lot, as they see food as food and not money. This movie reflects a type of science fiction called la Nouvelle Vague.
6. Pi [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: Darren Aronofsky
In Manhattan, behind six locks, lives Max Cohen, a mathematician and computer whiz. Since staring at the sun at age six, he’s had terrible headaches; plus, he can’t abide human contact except with an aging professor, and he’s obsessed with finding numeric patterns. His current obsession is the stock market; his theories bring him to the attention of Wall Street traders. He also keeps running into Lenny, a fast-talking Hasidic who fronts for a cabal that wants to rediscover long-lost mathematical mysteries in the Torah. Neither group is benign, and they pursue Max as his hallucinations and headaches worsen. Does nature offer any solutions? Can Max find them?
5. Mulholland Drive [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: David Lynch
A bright-eyed young actress travels to Hollywood, only to be ensnared in a dark conspiracy involving a woman who was nearly murdered, and now has amnesia because of a car crash. Eventually, both women are pulled into a psychotic illusion involving a dangerous blue box, a director named Adam Kesher, and the mysterious night club Silencio.
4. Drowning by Numbers [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: Peter Greenaway
Tired of her husband’s philanderous ways, the mother of two daughters drowns her husband. With the reluctant help of the local coroner, the murder is obscured. Her daughters are having similar problems with relationships, and tend to follow their mother’s example, and the coroner becomes reluctantly duplicitous. As the plot progresses, visual and spoken numbers appear in the scenes, counting from one to 100.
3. Naked Lunch [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: David Cronenberg
Exterminator Bill Lee finds himself following his wife into an addiction to the bug powder he uses. After accidentally killing her, he descends into a hallucinatory existence in which he imagines himself a secret agent answering to a series of bizarre creatures. He channels his energies into writing “reports” on his delusional mission, while trying to break his addiction. The story loosely reflects events in the life of author Burroughs as he wrote the novel.
2. The Idiots [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: Lars von Trier
A group of perfectly intelligent young people decide to react to society’s cult of an aimless, non-creative and non-responsible form of intelligence by living together in a community of “idiots”. Their main activity becomes going out into the world of “normal” people and pretending to be mentally retarded. They take advantage of this situation to create anarchy everywhere they go and try by every possible means to make people annoyed, disturbed, miserable, ridiculous, angered, and shocked. The films start as they recruit a new lost soul and introduced her to their megalomaniac leader.
1. Brazil [Amazon| IMDB | Torrent | Trailer]
Director: Terry Gilliam
In an Orwellian vision of the future, the populace are completely controlled by the state, but technology remains almost as it was in the 1970’s. Sam Lowry is a civil servant who one day spots a mistake in one of the pieces of paperwork passing through his office. The mistake leads to the arrest of an entirely innocent man, and although Lowry attempts to correct the error, it just gets bigger and bigger, sucking him in with it.
Notable others: Virtually every other film by David Lynch or David Cronenberg, eXistenZ, City of Lost Children, Requiem for a Dream, Repulsion, Memento, Begotten, Jacob’s Ladder, After Hours, Prospero’s Books, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
NOTE: The torrent links are provided for sampling; I strongly recommend you buy the DVDs of these movies as they are so great. Having said that, if anyone can provide me with a link to the torrent for Drowning by Numbers I would appreciate it.

1. Ryan Sweeney - August 3rd, 2007 at 1:39 pm
Great list - I think I have seen them all with the exception of one, and have to say that I was all like o_O at the end of most of them!
2. jfrater - August 3rd, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Ryan: Thanks
3. ianrey - August 3rd, 2007 at 5:28 pm
Good list. I question “Memento” in the notable others; while it was unconventional in its narrative, the story itself was pretty much just a conventional whodunit. I would put “I Heart Huckabees” on the list.
4. jfrater - August 3rd, 2007 at 5:44 pm
ianrey: I Heart Huckabees is one of my favourite films (in fact I own the soundtrack as well) but I am not sure I would say it was all that weird. It definitely had oddball characters, but the overall filming and understanding of the film was fairly standard. You are right about memento, but if I didn’t include it someone would complain about its absence
I am in a no-win situation with subjective lists like these.
5. Dave - August 4th, 2007 at 2:31 am
Pi is my favorite movie of all time
6. jfrater - August 4th, 2007 at 10:05 am
Dave: yeah - it is a great film - not my favourite of all time but definitely up there.
7. emily - August 5th, 2007 at 4:13 am
hahaha- i heart huckabees is DEFINITELY the weirdest movie ive ever seen. this is a good list, but i dont like scary movies & some of those sound pretty creepy :[
8. james - August 5th, 2007 at 6:35 am
eraserhead
this list needs to have that movie
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074486/
the weirdest movie i’ve ever seen
9. jfrater - August 5th, 2007 at 7:18 am
emily: some of them are scary but not in the conventional sense at least. Still, you might want to avoid the opening scene of Mulholland Drive
James: eraserhead is included in a way - in the notable extras I mention all other films by David Lynch and he is the director of eraserhead.
10. Cavale - August 6th, 2007 at 6:14 am
Ummm… what about Zardoz and Holy Mountain?
11. jr - August 7th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
Left out “The Man Who Fell To Earth” with David Bowie
12. jfrater - August 7th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
jr: to be honest I haven’t seen it - I will check it out - I am always on the look out for good weird films
13. jeff b - August 8th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
find the movie black moon. it was made in the 70s and, is hard to find but, trust me it’s the strangest movie ever made.
14. jfrater - August 8th, 2007 at 11:21 pm
jeff: do you have any more info on this film? I am very curious. What is it about and who was the director?
15. jeff b - August 9th, 2007 at 1:54 am
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072709/ i have seen it but have been unable to get a hold of a copy. it’s a hard film to explain so you would have to see it for your self.
16. jfrater - August 9th, 2007 at 7:35 am
jeff: thanks for the link - it seems to have had quite good reviews and on reading them I think it sounds a lot like the style of Drowning by Numbers. I will definitely try to get a hold of it.
17. alex - August 10th, 2007 at 6:41 am
Ah yes, anything by Alejandro Jodorowsky should be mentioned. Holy Mountain Trailer here
And I’m kinda surprised Donnie Darko was here. I always thought of it as a normal sad indie movie.
18. jfrater - August 10th, 2007 at 8:13 am
Alex: wow - thanks for the link - I am definitely going to add that one to my collection, along with El Topo. Once watched I may need to update the list
19. jeff b - August 11th, 2007 at 12:38 am
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chpWALYbIcY i looked but this was all i could find on the web
20. christian - August 11th, 2007 at 2:48 am
I agree with Alex and I definitely go with recommending Jodorowsky. Weird may have to be redefined. Closer connections to Surrealism and the Occult. His ElTopo (my favorite, which I suggest first to watch) was the first midnight movie and Lynch’s Eraserhead was the other end of the midnight film of its time.
Your list starts to get into the realm of film weird(good directors listed). I think weirdness can be revolutionary to individual perception, its based on what one thinks as normal or understood, with an inkling of something other. but it depends on timing and suseptibility or open mindedness to novelty as far as affects on the self. Weird for weird sake doesnt float if there isnt some basis in reality.
21. Fruckert - August 11th, 2007 at 3:06 am
the only one on this list that i watched is donny darko, and i thought it was pretty strange, but not to the extent of wierd…
*slight spoiler*
alot of people probably thought it was wierd because it deals alot with time travel and demonic bunnys.
22. roberto - August 11th, 2007 at 4:25 am
…I would have to say that “Meet the Feebles” is one of the strangest, most deranged movies ever made and definitely makes you look twice at puppets…
23. christian - August 11th, 2007 at 5:02 am
“Meet The Feebles”! yeh.
24. Fruckert - August 11th, 2007 at 7:47 am
i have never even heard of that, what is it
25. jfrater - August 11th, 2007 at 8:30 am
I have managed to secure a copy of Holy Mountain to watch today so I will let you all know how it goes
Guys: If you liked meet the feebles, try Bad Taste (also by Peter Jackson) for some strange and gross viewing.
26. jfrater - August 11th, 2007 at 9:14 am
jeff b: thanks for the link - it does look weird!
27. Roberto Iza - August 11th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
Great list!
28. Cassidy - August 13th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Repo Man is much more bizarre than Donny Darko…
29. jfrater - August 13th, 2007 at 2:09 pm
Cassidy: do you think so? I love Repo Man but I don’t agree that it was really weird - the alien aspect was a little odd, but it all made sense.
30. Xavier - August 13th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
Although not a feature-length film, “Un Chien Andalou” is probably the weirdest short film ever. And it was made by Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali so you know it’s surreal and weird.
Rosemary’s Baby should also be included on this list.
31. jfrater - August 14th, 2007 at 6:30 am
Xavier: un chien andalou is included on Top 10 Most Bizarre Videos.
32. Xavier - August 14th, 2007 at 10:14 am
Oh, whoops. Sorry, I didn’t check the other lists. I’m new to this site, and it’s definitely becoming one of my favorites.
33. jfrater - August 14th, 2007 at 10:22 am
Xavier: I am glad to hear it - comments like that help keep me writing every day
34. The Dum Guy - August 18th, 2007 at 5:06 am
While this might be too out there, Cannibal Holocaust is one of the weirdest/disturbing movies ever, but I guess it is kinda conventional as far as story goes.
And I have to agree with alex on Holy Mountain, it is way weirder than most films, esp. the ending.
35. jfrater - August 18th, 2007 at 8:39 am
The Dum Guy - I haven’t seen the first, but I did manage to get a copy of Holy Mountain - I agree with you.
36. E.D. - August 22nd, 2007 at 9:40 am
The Science Of Sleep
37. jfrater - August 22nd, 2007 at 11:58 am
E.D.: I presume you mean the one by the director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? I haven’t seen Science of Sleep but I loved the other one.
38. tengriqut - August 23rd, 2007 at 2:52 am
Yeah right.. Luis Bunuel and Takashi Miike, Shinya Tsukamoto… does these names ring a bell?
39. jfrater - August 23rd, 2007 at 3:17 am
tengiqut: in the first paragraph it states that it is not including anyone from the dada movement - Bunuel is surrealist - that excludes him. Un Chien Andalou is included on another list (and Bunuel was co-director of that) with Dali.
40. zombiejorge - August 23rd, 2007 at 6:14 am
Wow, thanks. Thanks to your list and the urging of a friend i checked out brazil, and while i rented that i came across delicatessen which i also watched. Both were amazing! Clever, strange, and just overall good films.
41. jfrater - August 23rd, 2007 at 7:05 am
zombiejorge: yeah - both are great films. Delicatessen is hilarious.
42. molly - August 23rd, 2007 at 7:19 pm
hey what about Being John Malkovich? That movie was freaky weird but awesome.
Donnie darko has got to be the greatest movie of all times.
43. jfrater - August 24th, 2007 at 12:09 am
molly: I must confess to not having watched Being John Malkovich - I find him so irritating that I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
I love Donnie Darko too - it is excellent. It reminds me a lot of a David Lynch film in fact.
44. 80toy - August 27th, 2007 at 11:31 am
If you like Donnie Darko, watch “The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys” it is a cross between donnie darko and Stand By Me. also, the donnie darko websit is wierd and worth trying to get into.
45. 80toy - August 27th, 2007 at 11:33 am
meant to recommend “natural born killers” too. very violent, but cool and wierd.
46. jfrater - August 27th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
80toy: that sounds interesting - I love Stand by Me - I will check out the Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. And there is no doubt that Natural Born Killers is one of the greatest films that Oliver Stone made. I love that film - in fact, Juliette Lewis is one of my favourite female actors because of it.
47. wardrich - August 31st, 2007 at 1:55 pm
The first 3 on the list are the only ones I’ve ever seen, and are definitely some of my faves. I’m surprised Videodrome and A Scanner Darkly didn’t make it on the list.
48. Hannah - September 4th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
What about “Punch Drunk Love”? That was a completely bizarre movie!
Yay, I’m so glad you think John Malkovich is irritating. I just said that same thing to some one today. You should make a list of the most overrated actors.
49. jfrater - September 4th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
wardrich: I found a Scanner Darkly to be a bit pretentious - and even though it was overlayed with illustrations, Keanu Reeves still can’t act!
Hannah: what a brilliant idea - I have written it down on my enormous list of lists.
50. Oliver Stone - September 6th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Uh, yeah, just had to point out that Natural Born Killers was directed Oliver Stone, not Tarantino. Woo, nice burn on Quentin, though!
If you ever get to see any of the Cremaster series by Matthew Barney (not on video, mainly shows in art museums, etc.), THAT’S weird. Along the lines of El Topo but weirder.
EDITED: OK, I was sort of thinking, why did I feel like there was a QT tie to Natural Born Killers? He wrote the story, although not the screenplay.
51. jfrater - September 6th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
Oliver: oh - I thought he had produced it as well!
52. Idreno - September 18th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
I have to say, my #1 weirdest movie of all time has to be Gregg Araki’s “Nowhere” which also has some rather famous actors in it’s cast. It has the most random plot and ending. I won’t reveal it - but it is definitely worth watching.
53. jfrater - September 19th, 2007 at 12:10 am
Idreno: thanks for mentioning that film - I will check it out.
54. jon - September 22nd, 2007 at 10:10 am
has any one seen the movie “spun” that was pretty weird. or is it just me???
55. Juggz - September 22nd, 2007 at 10:16 am
jon: Spun definately threw me for a loop, that movie makes you feel like your the one doing the drugs
56. jfrater - September 22nd, 2007 at 10:19 am
I loved spun - it has some of my favorite actors in it. In fact, all films that like appeal to me - maybe because I am so pure! Requiem for a Dream is another favorite in a similar vein.
57. jon - September 22nd, 2007 at 11:05 am
i actually own both movies does any one else have any recommendations for other movies like these? (spun & requiem for a dream)
58. 2overpar - September 26th, 2007 at 11:27 am
you can add to the list any Coen brothers movie, Gilbert Grape and Boxing Helena.
59. jfrater - September 26th, 2007 at 11:45 am
2overpar: boxing Helena is great - it was directed by David Lynch’s daughter.
60. mortedonna - September 27th, 2007 at 4:12 am
No sign of “Eraserhead”?
61. suj - September 28th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
THNKS,WILL AVOID ALL OF THE ABOVE. HOW ABOUT A LIST OF TOP 20 ROMANTIC FILMS LIKE, PRETTY WOMAN,CASABLANCA ETC..
62. jfrater - September 28th, 2007 at 11:42 pm
moretedonna: Only one per director
suj: I have just done Alfred Hitchcock films. Maybe romantic ones can come next
63. CarlosPC - September 29th, 2007 at 10:44 pm

67. Carlos Mal Pacheco - October 7th, 2007 at 1:12 am
Weirdest movie of all times, NO CONTEST: Holy Mountain, by Alejandro Jodorowski.
And it’s a good movie, too.
68. Christopher Joseph Borne - October 7th, 2007 at 8:21 am
Brazil is a great film; it’s one of my faves. Another great and weird film is Incubus, starring the one (and thank god only) William Shatner.
69. Christopher Joseph Borne - October 7th, 2007 at 8:25 am
or 2001: A Space Odyssey
70. WatAbout - October 8th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Most of the ones that pop in my mind are up there. Anyone else think Pink Floyd’s The Wall was really weird (but good)?
71. Area51 - October 14th, 2007 at 7:13 am
Yeah, The Wall was definitely weird. Another one I saw recently was The Machinist. Good, but quite obviously a strange movie.
72. jfrater - October 14th, 2007 at 7:21 am
The Machinist was a great film.
73. Area51 - October 14th, 2007 at 8:00 am
The Machinist WAS a great film! I don’t mean “strange” as a bad thing at all. I really enjoyed the movie but I did find it to be weird, especially when you realize that that was Christian Bale’s real body and then he went on to pack on muscle for Batman Begins. He went from a stick figure to the point that he was so huge, the director of Batman actually allegedly told him to LOSE some muscle. That to me just adds to the weird ambiance of the film. Awesome.
74. Area51 - October 14th, 2007 at 8:02 am
I don’t know if animated films count, but Watership Down was pretty odd too.
75. pete - October 14th, 2007 at 1:08 pm
David Lynch’s Inland Empire is far more weird then even Mulholland Drive.
I know it’s probably ‘new’ to most but that doesn’t change the fact that it is more weird then most movies on this list. I say check it out.
76. jfrater - October 14th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
pete: I am inclined to disagree but I am not sure why. I loved both Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire - I ordered it in advance of release from Amazon and it is one of my prized possessions
I still feel that Mulholland Drive is more unusual - I wonder if it has something to do with the number of viewings. Regardless, Lynch is the mast of this topic and probably my most favorite director.
77. pete - October 15th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
Maybe Lynch deserved two spots on the list then
I have a bias. I too love David Lynch- Saw Inland Empire at an independent theatre when I was in the states.
78. jfrater - October 15th, 2007 at 8:01 pm
pete: I didn’t get to see it at a theatre - I would have loved to though.
79. Anya - October 19th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Could just be me, but Jim Jarmusch’s films tend to have that same ‘Huh?’ effect on me.
80. dp - October 19th, 2007 at 6:59 pm
Paperhouse is a very strange film
81. Sam - October 24th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
I bet this won’t be read, but I’ve got two movies that really left me saying “WTF?” The Butcher Boy, and the German version of Funny Games (1997).
82. StewWriter - October 28th, 2007 at 8:54 am
I really found Dick’s movie version of his novel, ‘A Scanner Darkly’ to be relatively odd as well. The book is so hard to put down and what they did in the film with the animated rotoscoping was phenomenal.
Also I’d recommend Burton’s early work, ‘Pee Wee’s Big Adventure’ as pretty weird, I believe you have the Large Marge scene posted on one of your lists as well.
83. jfrater - October 28th, 2007 at 9:33 am
Sam: I have heard of the Butcher Boy - I don’t think I have seen it though - can you remind me about it?
StewWriter: I watched that film recently and I actually didn’t enjoy it all that much. I think Keanu Reeves is a wet fish even when he is animated!
84. Chris - November 25th, 2007 at 2:24 am
Excellent list! I’m not familiar (yet) with #2, 3, or 4, but the rest are some of my absolute favorites (especially Delicatessen and MYAEWK).
I saw someone mention Matthew Barney’s Cremaster Cycle above. Watching those five films is a truly bizarre experience, along the lines of The Holy Mountain, if anything. Also, I highly highly recommend Songs From The Second Floor, a great movie from Sweden that’s based on a poem. Oh, and the weirdest movie I’ve seen recently was Puzzlehead, also quite unique. Ooh, and Lars von Trier’s Dogville is unlike anything I’ve seen, halfway between a stage production and a movie.
85. Dandelion - November 25th, 2007 at 5:33 am
A Clockwork Orange really was a weird movie. I couldn’t even find it disgusting even though it was. I just had to laugh because everything was so odd.
86. ChicagoCindy - November 30th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
I watched a movie as a kid called “Eating Raoul” that to this day is the weirdest movie I’ve ever seen. Maybe I’d see it differently if I watched it with an adult perception, but I don’t think so: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083869/
87. Ali - December 18th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
The inclusion of torrents is GREATLY appreciated and I think it should be standard with lists like these.
Thanks for the extra effort.
88. LinkiDink - December 20th, 2007 at 2:51 am
Several of these are some of my favorite movies. I guess I didn’t realize they were all that weird because apparently I am pretty weird. If you like these, I recommend “The Butcher Boy”, “Spider”, “Eraserhead”, the “Twin Peaks” collection (those are all mentioned in the note after the list or in the comments though). Also “Afraid of the Dark”, and “The Second Coming of Suzanne” and I know there are others I’m just not thinking of right now. These “weird” movies are almost always sad and only seem weird because the main character is usually experiencing mental and emotional breakdown (so you see things from their point of view) or because the story is shown in an artistic and inventive way. Society seems to be so dumbed down that it lacks the imagination to pick up on metaphors. Also people think everything should have an answer… Some things are not to be explained. I realize the movies listed are shown in a positive light, but I know of far too many morons who just don’t like movies that are actually good because they can’t enjoy complex storytelling.
89. Yossarian - December 27th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Brazil is amazing,

I love Jacob’s Latter…
91. silly - January 12th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
this is a bit late, but i have to say Live Freaky Die Freaky is by far the weirdest movie i have ever seen. a stop motion animation musical about charles manson starring a bunch of pop/punk musicians. yeah.
92. albert0 - January 20th, 2008 at 9:17 am
Clearly this guy hasnt seen employe of the month, where the setting is a microcosm within a superstore in the USA
93. cryndigo - January 30th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
I haven’t seen any of those movies.
94. josepluma - February 2nd, 2008 at 1:51 am
“Being John Malkovich” should be #1
95. Hellbound Alleee - February 2nd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Aw, you guys haven’t seen many films at all.
There are so many movies made before 1920 that would slap this list to the ground.
How about Un Chien Andalou? Bunuel has made at least 10 films himself that slap this list down. (Slicing eyeballs?) There’s more Surrealism than Bunuel if that’s the direction you’re headed.
What about John Waters? Eating poo? Having sex with a giant lobster? Where have you guys been hiding? There’s a brave new world of film out there!
Anyone heard of “Careful?” Or “Archangel?” The films of Guy Madden ring a bell.
Anyone heard of Andy Warhol? Didja know he made movies? One was at least 8 hours long.
You gotta see at least one old Busby Berkely before making such a list. Or at least one Bollywood movie. You want Bizarre? What about Bramachari? Amahl, Akbar, Anthony? How about the live autopsy movie? Lars von Trier, Pshaw. How about Jan Svankmeyer?
96. Alli - February 10th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Mr Mike’s Mondo Video truly deserves a place on this list.
97. Elish - February 15th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Don’t forget Six String Samurai.
A post Apocatlyptic movie in which Buddy Holly and numerous other musicians never actually died, but are now Samurais fighting to get to Lost Vegas and become the new king. Everyone else has reverted back to caveman form in which they drive around in old war vehicles and catapult gumballs and people. The devil is Slash, and his minions are a Russian band of bowlers who also incidentally did the entire soundtrack for the film….. there is so much more, go watch it!
98. Thepennymachine - February 17th, 2008 at 10:40 am
i love this list but there is two problems. I think jan svankmajer should have been on this list and although a clockwork orange is quite weird, it is also completely sensible. I LOVE BRAZIL!
99. jamz - February 19th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
i no its a childrens film but mirror mask is extreamly wierd
100. Kirstin - February 20th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
I bet a lot of you guys would love these two! Especially if you dug films like Brazil and Delicatessen, where it’s weird and unique and even scary, but also strangely joyous:
“The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension”
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086856/
A trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related
“The Forbidden Zone”

Some clips:

I second the nomination for Six String Samurai! Same feel as these, same weird-ass joy
101. IAmNotJohn - February 21st, 2008 at 5:25 am
I was disappointed not to see “Taxidermia” on the list.
102. Rolad - February 21st, 2008 at 5:55 pm
EL TOPO!!!
103. RonDog - February 24th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
“Buddy Boy” should be right there in the top ten.
104. ToothOfTheBull - March 5th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Here is one that no one has mentioned “Conspirators of Pleasure” it incorporated stop-motion into a story void of dialogue. It focuses on the bizarre perversions of everyday people (Russians I think) and how all their sacred hidden perversities are actually all inter-woven.
105. Mudget - March 5th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
- Waking Life, in my opinion much better than A Scanner Darkly
106. Britt - March 12th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Two words: Pillow book.
At least Peter Greenaway’s Drowning by Numbers is on here.
107. sylvain - March 28th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
To say the truth the list is not so impresive,i have seen all
the movies on your top list and i personally have one hell of a list for you, so get ready for my top ten weirdest films ever…10:Tetsuo the iron man 9:bad boy bubby 8:come and see 7:the machinist 6:lost highway 5:existanz 4:c’est arrivé près de chez vous 3:12 monkey’s 2:eraserhead and finally number one IRREVERSIBLE…wow what a weird movie!!
So that’s my top ten list and there is so much more that i could have put up there like jacob’s ladder, american psycho, old boy, dogville, pan’s labyrinth and the list could go
on but these are what i would think, very weir movies.
108. jfrater - March 28th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
sylvain - you need to read some of the other lists on the site - we have covered all the movies you name and many more far more bizarre
109. carpe_noctem - April 19th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
sylvain: irreversible is only a weird movie insofar as the timeline goes, and of course because of the five minute, nauseating scene in the fetish club that juuuust manages to go on for a tiny bit too long. Other than that, the two biggest controversial scenes (which i won’t give away for those who haven’t seen it) aren’t particularly weird, they’re just extremely graphic and horrifying. I definitely agree with some of your other choices, but pan’s labyrinth hardly belongs in the weird category…
110. carpe_noctem - April 19th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
And is it at all strange that many of these are among my favourite movies of all time?
111. sylvain - April 24th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
I wanted to say that IRREVERSIBLE is strange in the camera work ,kinda looks like a view from the lower astral plan…
And the colors are very strange to me ..like carpe_ noctem said the timeline is very well done and strange .
By the way I forgot to say that GASPAR NOÉ the director of IRREVERSIBLE who I personally respect as an artist in every aspect of the word ..that is creation..did another
pretty strange movie that I love called SEUL CONTRE TOUS,
(I STAND ALONE)in english and that is one hell of a creation.
WOW…these french movies sometimes are realy different
and that is what entertainment is all about ,you can actually
see a shift towards independent cinema and I wish that it’s
going to continue in that direction because to tell you the truth I am sick of this bullshit hollywood crap that they are actually shitting on us .
Honestly real cinema has to be creative, deep and profound that gets imprint in the psyche…those kind of
movies that leaves a weird fealing in the mind,
those movies that opens a doorway in the subconsciousness
and plays in a kind of fantasy world ,and i just love these
world created by creative minds..experimental movie means
experimenting in different way to create ..by the way their
is an exeptional experimental film called BEGOTTEN…wow
that most be the strangest most weird experience ever period!
112. sunnyboy - April 29th, 2008 at 3:50 am
dude, jfrater I appreciate ur work ur efforts, respect.
I once saw this very wierd movie dunno it was jap, thai or maybe malaysian movie
ok so the story is that a scientist develops a formula which makes pain a bearable sensation, this drug is developed to help women during their pegnancy and partum,5 women are tested with these drugs, everything works well until these develop an addiction for these drugs. but there is also a side effect this drug not only makes pain bearable it makes it pleasurable, the women actually get high by pain and watching gore.
later the movie shows us to what limit these women go to cause themselves pain, including self mutilation
this movie is so wierd and gory it easily puts saw and hostel series to shame.
thanks for the list and the comments as well, i am loving all of them
113. sylvain - April 29th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
NO KIDDING :BEGOTTEN IS THE STRANGEST MOST EXPERIMENTAL
MOVIE EVER AND I WOULD PERSONALLY SUGGEST EVERYONE TO VIEW
THIS PIECE OF ART…I HAVE TO SUGGEST TWO OTHER EXPERIMENTAL
called “THE BROTHERS QUAY” and all “The collected shorts of
JAN SVANKMAJER” these little piece of art are amongs the
best in the genre..and if you can get your hands on the
guinea pig collection,i think they are japanese and i would
personally suggest “FLOWER OF FLESH AND BONE” “HE NEVER DIES”
“DEVILS EXPERIMENT” from the guinea pig collection…so that are some experimental ,i forgot that BRAKHAGE:an anthology as
some very good material in the experimental department!!!
114. chris - April 30th, 2008 at 7:53 am
Hi,
) so here goes:
despite the fact that I really like most of the movies you listed, I feel most of them aren’t that weird. Also, some are weird as far as the story goes and some are more weird because of visuals, music etc…but most don’t have both. I tried to make a list of movies that associate a weird story to strange or at least uncommon visuals. Also I know you purposefully left out movies from the Dada movement but I feel some people who come across your list might be looking exactly for that (like me
-Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky, defenitly my #1 weird movie and although its plot is kind of inexistent it still has many very funny moments and visuals are stunning…
-L’ Age d’ Or by Luis Bunuel and if you want something not part of what you call the dada movement then The Discreet Charm of Bourgoisie which is equally weird
-Conspirators of Pleasure by czech director Jan Svankmajer is a mix of stop-motion animation and live actors and explores ’sexuality’ of its 7 (or 6 ?) protagonists.
-Fantastic Planet by Rene Laloux with original drawings from Topor. Beautiful Si-fi animation with a Dali-esque feel to it as far as landscapes are concerned.
-to some extent i feel Monthy Python’s Holy Grail is weirder than most movies you mentioned…
-Sitcom by Francois Ozon, french oddball
-Freaks by Todd Browning if somehow conventional in the story it tells, is definitely weird because its actors
-Mutants from Space is a hilarious feature-length animation by Bill Plympton and can definitely qualify as weird, especially the sequence where the astronaut finds himself caught in the conflict between giant living noses and giant living fingers…
-Phantom of Paradise by Brian de Palma is a weird mix of Faust and The Phantom of The Opera and it’s really funny
-Well you mentionned Mullholland Drive that I love and certainly is weird, but I wonder if Erazerhead wouldn’t have been a better choice for the purpose of that list.
115. chris - April 30th, 2008 at 7:56 am
arghh Sylvain, I didn’t see your post on Svankmajer and you’re right! The Brothers Quay definitely deserve a spot on that list
116. sylvain - April 30th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
allo!I wanted to mention a movie called “THE KINGDOM” by
Lars Van Trier ,by the way this director makes some pretty
weird work, and not to forget old time directors like
Fritz Lang, Sergei Eisenstein’s,Ingmar Bergman’s witch is
one of my favorite with the movie called “THE SEVENT SEAL” you have Luc Godard and some of fellini’s work is weird and
i could go on but this is to name a few that i think of now.
I wanted to say this great movie called “13 TZAMETI” that when it came out it took people by suprise and add a
pretty good review,i personally think that the story is
different ,not sure about how weird it is but when viewing this belgium (french) film you will never guess what’s
comming your way!!!Te film as a slow start but when you will
follow the story and actually see what’s appening ….wow..
im sure you will suggest this little film to your friends…
117. Emilyzor - May 1st, 2008 at 5:27 am
i hadnt seen any in your list but pi.
shall go look them up.
david lynch - agreed.
eXistenZ - agreed.
memento - def a wtf at the end. didn’t know what to believe.
requiem for a dream was sort of understandable in my opinion.
118. Emilyzor - May 1st, 2008 at 5:28 am
also didn’t understand pi at all, the most questionable one of the ones i know.
119. Kat - May 2nd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
I say Four Rooms is Great but i don’t know how weird.
What about CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL. Even the cover art is odd….. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115819/
120. wryly - May 3rd, 2008 at 6:09 am
I was both surprised and pleased that “Brazil” was prominently listed.
I agree with the mention of “Eating Raoul”, whereas I would say “Butcher Boy” is simply about a mentally disturbed adolescent.
I think I have the title right: Where is “Liquid Sky”?
121. sylvain - May 3rd, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Hi,you know what i think! I will repeat myself but this as to go true and we are talking about strange films arent we !!
All i want here is honesty and went i say that BEGOTTEN is
the weirdest experience anybody could wish if looking for
weird and very strange this is it.It,s well made ,it’s experimental and maybe not for every one. It,s art and at
some extent out of this world ,kind of dreamy like ,sound
wise it,s strange ,atmospheric it’s weird ,story wise deep
and profound ,it leaves a deep imprint in the psyche.
I personally think you will never forget this movie once
you view it,it stays in the mind for long…believe me it’s
very true…it’s surely the weirdest movie in here PERIOD!!
122. sylvain - May 3rd, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Allo ! It would be nice if someone would say if he or she saw
BEGOTTEN and share some point of view on it!and there is a festival of short film called NEW YORK UNDERGROUND FESTIVAL
that i saw and it’s well made and very ,very weird.Actually
some of the material in NYUF is some of the strangest stuff
i had a chance to put my hands on and believe me i have
studied and viewed a lots of film and some pretty rare .
Like this “NYFU” “BEGOTTEN” “BAD BOY BOBBY” “COME AND SEE”
these are just some exemple of what i think maybe rare stuff!GOOD LUCK and give me some feedback….
123. sylvain - May 4th, 2008 at 12:04 am
I think of something ! ERASERHEAD and TETSUO THE IRON MAN are
experimentalist movies and are a little look alike in the
style ,texture and dream like fantasy world …a little like
BEGOTTEN for exemple for the people who did not see it ,it
could be reference ….
124. meatwad - May 6th, 2008 at 11:11 am
rocky horror picture show should definitely have a place on this list… such a weird movie
125. sylvain - May 6th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Also they are some movies that are not considered or seen as
weird but they contain some weird stuff ,for exemple Oliver
Stone plays with the image to create a weird feeling ,you
got Quantin Tarantino who writes and create weird interactions and situations. All this at some extent is
to create a weird feeling or weird situation,it’s to take you
out of context . They want to bring you in they’re universe
of creation and fantasy and sometimes it is a weird context.
For exemple in AMERICAN BEAUTY you have this weird
neighbor who see’s life very differently in filming dead things and flying kleenex ,in CRASH you have these people
all connected and all interacting with each other and not knowing it,SIN CITY was kind of weird for the atmospheric
environment as far as im concern FIGHT CLUB was kind of weird
for this crasy ,skizophrenic guy to be hallucinating all
this movie ,in SEVEN the plot and reversal are weird to me,as
a matter of fact the credit start of the movie (SEVEN) is
weird and you know right from the beginning your in for
something special and this could go on and on ,just finding
weird scenes in movies is nt that hard…umm before i forget
i wanted to mention two very weird movies ,SHEITAN witch is
french and AFTERMATH GENESIS witch is three weird story’s …
ohh and they’re is 3 EXTRERME that deserve a place in the
weird category it’s a japanese movie …***
126. Zander - May 8th, 2008 at 8:53 am
I think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is pretty weird!
127. sylvain - May 10th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
hi ! if someone saw some of the movies that i put up there,
give me your thoughts on what you think ,how weird some of them are and maybe what you actually consider weird…
If someone saw BEGOTTEN , BAD BOY BUBBY , SHEITAN ,
AFTERMATH GENESIS , 3 EXTREME , TETSUO THE IRON MAN ,
COME AND SEE or the NEW YORK UNDERGROUND FESTIVAL…
(give me some feedback)***
SyLvAiN.
128. Brad - May 10th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
I agree with anyone who said Eraserhead or Tetuso the Iron Man. Two of the strangest movies that I’ve ever seen. Speaking of Tetsuo, Akira could have easily made this list, but maybe animated films don’t count…
129. Taija - May 11th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Being John Malkovich should have been on the list or at least be mentioned since ESotSM was, too.
Good list, though. I especially love Mulhdolland Drive.
130. Bluzulu - May 16th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Tommy! It’s the weirdest f…ing movie I’ve ever seen.
The Wall
Barton Fink
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Eraserhead
Being John Malkovich
131. sylvain - May 17th, 2008 at 6:46 am
So i guest nobody saw BEGOTTEN ,it’s not that rare it’s possible to find it somewhere ,maybe on internet ,BAD BOY BUBBY is not so hard to find and COME AND SEE too ,these
are quite excellent choices for viewing weird and quality
movies .Me when i want to watch a movie i personally go for
the quality .Some movies are quite cheap and amateurish…
no,no,no i dont like cheap movies and cheap props ,accesory,
filming equipment al these are to me what will turn me on.
Good quality is important and a little budget helps !!
Oh by the way there is this not so bad film i saw yesterday
called INSIDE ,( DE L’INTERIEUR ) in french and it’s made in
french and english version. The story is good and the ending
awesome .It,s my kind of movie ,it’s a very weird and violent
movie.
ps:give me some feedback on BEGOTTEN,BAD BOY BUBBY or COME AND SEE…

Gummo beats all. Forever.
133. sylvain - June 13th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
I actually think that GUMMO is weird but all in all for me
it’s BEGOTTEN that wins the palm of weirdest most mesmerizing
picture ever done in this world ,period !!!
134. sylvain - June 13th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
I am still waiting for someone to have her or his personal
comment on the movie suggested up there called BEGOTTEN…
Is this movie so rare that it’s not possible to find…
specially on the internet data ,with the biggest bank of movie ever assembled in electronics (computer & internet).
There is some store that can get it ,and i think some
video club actually carry’s a copy ,i think someone ,somewhere knows something about this movie..???

137. sylvain - June 13th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
And what do you think of it my friend RUSHFAN …do you think
it’s weird especially if you see all the film ,but what did you think of what you saw ? tell me your comment when you can
thank yoou….
138. rushfan - June 13th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
it’s f’d up, sylvain. it starts out building an eerie creepy feeling in your stomach. you anticipate what’s gonna happen, especially after you read the description given about god and the razor. what’s weird is i love shit like this, but something biologically *happened* to me after i gave birth. stuff affects me differently now. i still try to watch or look at the same stuff (movies, pictures) but i’m just affected by them now. i know, TMI, right? you just wanted a review of the movie.
139. rushfan - June 13th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
have u watched it yet??
140. sylvain - June 15th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
yes!and i liked it a lot!and before that i watched eraserhead
witch is my first weird movie i watched…in 82,a«fter that i
knew i was in my element and sought after those kind of deep,
dream like movies.I love tetsuo the iron man, david cronenberg
and many many more witch i named up there in other comments i
did but i’m still searching for this kind of movie ,i’m open
minded to all kinds of movies and i alway’s give a movie a
chance to see if it hooks me but i personally know that there
is a kind movie that gets me hook in a deeper sense ,day dreamer movies ,very expressive experimental films of all
kinds …i go to fantasia festival in montreal and there is a
weird theater downtown montreal called cinema du parc and they show all kinds of weird underground films and even sometimes they show old classics weird movies like eraserhead
and many more…. s..
141. sylvain - June 15th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
thanks for the link of begotten…when i said that this film
was rare and hard to find it was for the other people looking
for a weird experience ,as for me i watched it a long time
ago ,i own a copy of it but i’m happy that you showed me
that link because it has interesting stuff that i never saw
before …and i know that you like that stuff to…did you
see some of the movies i named up there like bad boy bubby ,
come and see..etc..etc..tell me ..do you think when experiencing a movie we have our own perceptive eye and by
that our mind is individually changing our the point of view
of what we perceive with our own intentions and mood and even
go as far as time and space like quantum effect perception???
142. rushfan - June 16th, 2008 at 6:51 am
sylvain, do you sound like George St. Pierre?
I bet you do.
143. MICHELIS! - June 17th, 2008 at 4:09 am
mulholland drive and delicatessen are 2 of my favorite films!
i seem to be drawn to surreal and unusual cinema but theres a lot more to mulholland drive than what’s been written as the blurb for it! it’s more psychological, it’s about how we cope with emotions and awful things that have happened and things we regret. the first half is the desired life one of the characters want compared to the second half which reveals what really happened. the amazing thing about the film is that the first half gives the audience clues as to the fact that it’s not real and i think part of you realises that but like the main character you don’t want to believe it’s not true because it’s such a strange and sweet story at first. there are lines such as “now im in this dream place” and “we can pretend to be someone else” then lines which are used in both halves which correspond to eachother such as “this is the girl”, along with images and objects. I had to watch it 5 times in order to suss out what was going on but every single time i realised something else about it which, i think, hardly any other films do! sorry if ive spoiled it but i wish someone had explained the fact that it’s a film you personify with first so that i didnt get so confused when i saw ir for the firat time. If you enjoyed it i recommend Inland Empire and Eraserhead, both also directed by David Lynch.
Delicatessen was pretty fantastic too. It’s set in a non existant time and gives you a lot to think about, and like A clockwork orange it maybe has an image of the future…
Donnie Darko isnt that wierd though, i thought it was easy to follow and sorry but it’s a little over rated!
Blood Simple should be on here, you can understand it but the camera use and atmosphere is very eerie ans wierd!!
144. sylvain - June 17th, 2008 at 11:50 am
what do you mean ? I met george ST-pierre a few years ago at
bar champs on st-laurent downtown montreal ,that time he was
fighting in ucc ,he won a fight with a very bad referee
that stopped the fight because george said that the other
guy wanted out(ivan mangivar)is the other guy…and george
won that stupid fight .He was training with his two good
friends (stephane potvin & christophe midoux) …these two
guy’s are strong and very aggresive ,i am pretty sure these
two guy’s beat up and built up george st-pierre…george is
a good kid ,he loves his mom ,he’s very natural and authentic
,he’s accessible and smiling all the time…he is a very
representative champion!!!he deserves everything that’s
going to happen to him ,he works very very hard for this!!!
I know that for facts …trust me….sylvain!
145. rushfan - June 17th, 2008 at 11:57 am
I mean, do you have a french canadian accent? You’re in Canada aren’t you? Your frantic style of typing made me imaging you sounding just like GSP.
I’m actually a big GSP fan. He rocks those little tight shorty shorts.
146. sylvain - June 17th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
I actually am french canadien from montreal and i have kind
of the same accent ,in montreal french people that speak
the english ,we have an accent, not every body but a lot of
them…are you a boy or a girl ???
Montreal is such a fun and friendly place it is
unbeleiveble!! there is alway’s festivals of jazz ,funny ,
degustation of beer ,food ,film festival of all kinds and
many many more ,only in summer time …
147. Vera Lynn - June 17th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Great list! I have seen most of these. I have also seen a lot of the commenters suggestions. What about “The Audition”? Really creepy. I recommend, with warnings.
148. sylvain - June 20th, 2008 at 11:28 am
i love korean and japanese movies ,the style they use and
the story,s are quite perfectionist and clean pictures and
to see new actors for a change is not so bad at all ,considering that all we see is american made….pfff..
Audition is a good exemple of what i mean about clean picture …i have seen many asian movies in the last 5 years
and i can personally say that there was some very original,
well directed ,out of context ,good movies…i can say that
audition is a good movie and i have a few titles that i really like ..to name a few :3 extremes ,oldboy ,battle royale ,sympathy for mr.vengeance ,ichi the killer ,the eye
(japanese version) ,suicide club ,cure ,wishing stairs ,
izo (it’s a weird movie) ,ringu ,infection ,h ,lady vegeance,
a tale of two sisters ,memento mori ,wispering corridors and
many many more ….but these are just a few that i have seen
last years ad they are good !oohh before i leave i want to
suggest three good movies called ILS (them) ,SMALL GAUGE TRAUMA and KONTROL witch is a romanian movie …ok bye!…..
149. rushfan - June 20th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Sylvain ~ I’m a chic. I was disappointed with The Audition, saw it some time ago. I expected better. I’ve heard Ichi the Killer is awesome. I’ve been trying to find it.
150. sylvain - June 22nd, 2008 at 6:21 pm
hi..! rushfan …i can actually tell you that ichi the killer
is good but there is a few movies that needs to be seen …
like :battle royal ,3 extremes ,oldboy and sympathy for mr.
vengeance ….the four movies i just named are essencial
viewing…!! i mean really ,these movies are different and
very well made …artistically ..!!
So give me some feedback…. . sylvain.
151. rushfan - June 22nd, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Will do. Thanks for all the suggestions, I can tell you know of what you speak.
Did you watch the Ultimate Fighter finale last night? There were a buncha fights and they were pretty much all lame, almost all went to decision. But the big news was that Anderson Silva is going up to 205 to fight which is f’ing awesome. He’s gonna end up with two belts!!
152. sylvain - June 23rd, 2008 at 7:59 pm
I have seen anderson silva before at 205 in japan and he is
not so strong …he’s going to get knock the f$%&k out ..!!
I think guy’s to watch in comming champions are roger huerta in the light weight rodrigo minotauro nogiera and
no doupt bj penn ….bj is in one hell of a roll now..!!!
Minotauro is a heivyweight and so much experience …

WOW! the comments are almost more educational than the list itself!! not to mention long lasting! i have to say, in my own opinion, the two weirdest movies i think i’ve seen are “Magnolia” which is really freaking wierd, and “The Cell” which was more disturbing than weird. i know you guys have alot of Japanese listings up, but thats not my genre.
154. rushfan - June 25th, 2008 at 11:39 am
joebecca ~ Yup, The Cell was very cool. No one ever talks about it, but Vincent D’Onofrio was awesome! Your name reminds me of when Rebecca Romijn was on Carpoolers and her name was Joannifer. I laughed for, shit, I’m still laughing.
155. rushfan - June 25th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Sylvain ~ I think Anderson Silva must have gotten better since then, because his strenght in the clinch is so impressive, I don’t know. We’ll see. BJ Penn was overrated when he made him “comeback” but I guess the more he gets back into training he’s getting back into “prodigy” shape. Did you see his protege get his ass knocked the f*&^ out?? Kendall Grove? That bitch is almost 7 feet tall, all knees and elbows.
156. sylvain - June 26th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
You no what ..!! MAGNOLIA and VANILLA SKY are two of my best movies .!!! seriously ! I think that Tom Cuise made me love his acting so much for those two movies i mentioned …!!
Not to forget Brad Pit in three other movies i truly love:
12 MONKEY’S ,SEVEN and finally one of my favorite FIGHT CLUB.
By the way rushfan do you no MMALinker.com and MMAVlog.com
These sites are really filled with new fights every day’s..
There is YOUCA.com and WAT.com witch as a lots of fights ..
On mmalinker there is some fights that are linked to other
site jam packed full of never before seen fights …wow..!!
I love internet …******
157. sylvain - June 27th, 2008 at 8:18 am
kendall Grove got beat the f&%$k up by Jorge rivera ……
. . in UFC 80 …!!! I personally think jorge rivera will be
champion one day because of his resumé in the past…he lost a couple of fight …but instead of stopping every thing he
got his trainning seriously and persistance made him come back and he won …!!!some people get better after loosing..
and some others quit..!!! he really got better …agressive,
more tecnical and better attitude…like BJ PENN …the perfect exemple of loosing and cumming STRONGER THEN EVER..!!
158. Henry8th - June 27th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Has anyone seen “Teeth”?
159. Henry8th - June 27th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
any movie where a virginal-spokeswoman finds out that living next to a powerplant resulted in her vagina formed teeth through mutation is pretty strange
160. wickeddavis - June 29th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Hmmmm. I see nobody has mentioned A Boy and His Dog, The Serpent and the Rainbow, or The Re-Animator…
161. sylvain - July 2nd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
re-animator was a good movie to me but i personally dont think it’s a weird movie…!the serpent and the rainbow is a
pretty good movie but again i dont see it as weird at all..!
a boy and is dog ??? i dont know this one…!!
you should look at the link up there for BEGOTTEN…

A lot more movies could be added to this list:
That obscure object of desire
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
12 Monkeys
Short Movies of Brother Quay
The Golden Age (Partially based on Marquis De Sade’s 120 Days of Sodom)
Visitor Q
Itchi The Killer
The Trial (based on Kafka’s Novel)
El Topo
Fando and Lis
Santa Sangre
Persona
Face To Face
Most of the movies by Alexandro Jodorowsky, Luis Bunuel, Takshi Miike, David Lynch, David Cronenberg anf Terry Gilliam would qualify for this list. There are a lot others in this category at the moment I cannot remember of.
164. kea718 - July 10th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Love the list…dont know y this is the first time I decided to comment though. I found Lost HIghway to be much weirder than Mullholand Dr. And this list is missing some true gems: Gummo, Nowhere (or Doom Generation..both are really weird), Happiness of the Katakuris (a CRAZY japanese film that includes killing and musical interludes), Altered States… and many many more that I just cant think of now
165. Ellen - July 12th, 2008 at 6:21 am
Nice list! I’ve only seen Donnie Darko and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, but I loved those two movies and now I have plenty of suggestions!
Another really wierd one is the Big Lebowski. I was confused during a big part of that movie.
166. sylvain - July 12th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
I just saw a very weird movie called NAILZ ..it is the story
of a assassin that have migraines, big headaches,so to stop
his headaches he found a trick..he hammers nails in is skull!
The holes in is head makes the headache go away…
The story is a little kaotic but it is weird because of the montage ,all the weird colors used in the film.
It’s a russian film and it is written, produced an directed by ANDREY ISKANOV . It looks like MR.ISKANOV was on
somekind of hallucigenic drug when he did this very weird
movie , maybe acid ..!! This movie is very different from what we usually see,he did another movie called VISION OF SUFFERING . I personally did not see the second film but i saw and it looks as weird as NAILZ .THere was another trailer
that looked very weird and it’s called RUBBER’S LOVER…!!!

mulholland dr. and a clockwork orange are two of my favorites. great list here! and the comments with suggestions of other weird films are really helpful as i would like to watch more of this kind.
168. sylvain - July 15th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
I just watched one of the weirdest film ever ..!! called,
“FRANZ KAFKA’S IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE” i will admit that i smoked a little joint before…but it does not change the fact that it is a very weird and special film.
It’s a four short story dvd ,about 20 min. each aprox..
and the first story is a writter named kafka who is stumbling over how to complete the first sentence of what was to be his masterpiece …metamorphosis. Kafka is constantly being interrupted by a knife-selling stranger…
This movie is a masterpiece and it is such a great movie
in weird interactions and out of context situations that i have never seen a movie like that in my life..this is THE WEIRDEST WATCHABLE MOVIE IN HERE…NO DOUPTS!!!!
You should try to rent or find a copy of this wondeful film ….thrust me YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!THAT’S A PROMESS.!!
This movie should be viewed by every single person reading
this…now! I am not exagerating .
THis movie was made in 1993 by PETER CAPALDI and released
in 1995,it won a lots of prices and academy award tm winner!
official selection-sundance film festival!!
That’s it …you got a little review from me but not much..
just whatch it and give me some feedback on it …!
169. wickeddavis - July 18th, 2008 at 4:00 am
i just found another pretty weird one called “Fido”
possibly the weirdest take on a zombie movie i have ever seen…
170. fernbracken - July 28th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Salo 120 Days of Sodom Passolini A film I will not watch again

171. sylvain - July 29th, 2008 at 10:37 am
When i said watchable movie in my previous comment ,i meant
a movie that is not to boring…the story sometimes is good
but the acting is so bad that uummm…you know .!!
Sometimes the director has such good intention and enthusiasm but it’s such a big project and some missing
elements that it is almost impossible to do!!!
Some movies got a lot of potencial (like the script)
but again you need more than intentions and enthusiasm ,
creativity is good but i think not enought.
I think a project that will gain immediate cult status
and be a favorite needs all the elements named above and
a lots of uuummmmmmm…………..FAITH!
I think it’s a great teams work , all the sincro is there and everythink like falls into places ….thats weird!!
172. Docskeezer - August 2nd, 2008 at 6:43 am
What about Southland Tales or Altered States or Sublime?
173. Docskeezer - August 2nd, 2008 at 6:46 am
There is also Something Wicked This Way Comes and Watcher in the Woods, those were strange.
Also worth mentioning - Lady in the Water, I liked the movie, but it was strange.
174. Egg - August 7th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Pink Flamingos. More weird than John Waters other projects, simply because of the theme “filthiness”. At least abstract films come into being to express some complex idea, but why on earth would someone make a film like Pink Flamingos?
175. Egg - August 7th, 2008 at 8:06 am
Fernbracken: I didn’t think Last Year at Marienbad was a weird film, just nouveau.
176. sylvain - August 14th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
i dont know but i saw altered state a long time ago and to
tell you the truth, it does not make much sense ..story wise!
The main character in this movie is studying a hallucigenic
drug he tried in south americ
