Top 25 Beautiful Celebrity Brunettes
Published on March 8, 2008 - 288 Comments
The brunette, in history, has always been seen as the temptress, the siren; from Lilith of Hebrew mythology to Shakespeare’s ‘dark lady of the sonnets,’ the brunette has been the woman which gives men pause even while we desire her, as though we sense there’s a dangerous cleverness in her that will destroy us. No matter what we do, we can’t help ignoring our caution… and so we fall into her trap. If, in terms of popular motif, the blonde is traditionally ‘angelic’ (and/or bubble-headed) and the redhead ‘fiery’ (and troublesome) the brunette is… something dark and deeply intense. She’s alluring and alarming, all at once.
Comments on the criteria I used: For the most part I wanted a list of beautiful women who had something to offer besides good looks. Whether that’s intelligence, talent or simply poise and class, a great voice, a sense of humor… or a combination of all these. I also wanted a list of women who fit this vague, personal and indefinable visual image I have of the “perfect brunette.” Don’t ask me what that is, I can’t say. I only know that I’ve found it several times in my life… and, ah… memories.
Also, a rule that I tried to stick to: Some women frequently change their hair color. So I decided that this list had to be limited to those who have faithfully (or at least mostly) stuck to their raven-tressed roots.
I also apologize for the lack of Asian and African women. I had some in mind, but none really could make it high enough on the list for me. Tyra Banks would be my #26, we’ll say. I do feel guilty about this. But PC be damned, I gotta be me.
And some other conspicuous absentees I want to mention: Annette Funicello, Bettie Page, Eliza Dushku, Teri Hatcher, Rachel Weisz, Victoria Principal, Anne Curry, Fran Drescher and Stacey London (I don’t know why, but she does something for me) and a dozen others… It pained me to omit them… but the list had to be pared down.
Beautiful, smart, and a good actress. She’s got the classic looks of Old Hollywood, combined with an exotic Euro-cool.
The question might leap to some minds: why Joan Collins but no Elizabeth Taylor? I don’t know. I can only say that it seemed to me somehow that Joan always took herself a tad less seriously than Liz. And it also has always seemed to me that while Liz had the body and the looks, she was lacking all else. Neither woman’s a good actress… but for some reason I had to include Joan. Perhaps only for the reason that she’s always been a dirty girl, and I’m all for that.
A dancer’s body combined with winning charm and Gallic grace. I fell for her when I was a kid and saw her in “Gigi” on TV one day. The Scotch dress, the straw hat… and those eyes and lips.
Back in the day, when she was with 10,000 Maniacs, we all knew there was something alluring and very exotic about Natalie Merchant. The cadence of her voice, the folksy latter-day flower child look about her… and a kind of subtle, challenging beauty.
Okay, another bimbo-ish chick, but WOW. She gets major points for being a whacky dirty girl, and for her otherwordly body. But above it’s that face. Fantastic. Sometimes appears as a redhead, but her real color is darker.
Needing no comment, probably—the ultimate Italian bombshell. Known for her seductive stripteases and glove-tight lingerie in classic films of the late 50s and 60s. Cary Grant fell hard for her during the filming of “Houseboat.” She rejected him. THAT is feminine self-assurance.
The pinnacle of Latin hotties. Out of this world body, out of this world looks, the kind of woman every guy drools over. Or at least I do.
Surely the classiest woman on this list. Lithe, slim, graceful and sleekly beautiful like the ballerina she was.
Hubba hubba, as we say. Back in the 80s there were sex symbols like Madonna and the like… but we college boys always had a thing for Susanna Hoffs, the Bangles hottie who made their videos steamy and redeemed an otherwise crap movie (The Allnighter) by appearing in a bikini and, better still, in one scene posing in front of a mirror in a tiny top and panties. Bless you Susanna. And she’s still gorgeous today as she belts out duets with former alterna-rocker and current fattie Matthew Sweet.
The greatest of all child stars (and the daughter of Russian immigrants) this goddess grew up to be one of the most strikingly beautiful women in Hollywood. A marriage, divorce, then remarriage to the oily-charmy Robert Wagner (he later redeemed his image somewhat by co-starring as “Number 2” in the Austin Powers films) showed she didn’t have the best judgement—and she died tragically, still young, in a drowning accident.
Stunningly exotic Ava fits the bill despite her green eyes (I prefer my brunettes to have brown). Devastatingly witty, Ava was a woman who challenged men and kept them thinking. Even Frank Sinatra.
Nothing special as an actress (some film noir, some TV westerns, etc.) and known primarily as A) a lover of Howard Hughes (who wasn’t? Ava Gardner was too—Howard had good taste) and B) the star of the 50s sci-fi cheese classics “This Island Earth” and “It Came From Beneath the Sea” – Faith makes the list because of those ultra-seductive and sultry eyes and pouty look which makes her nearly a template for my idea of the perfect brunette.
Maker of soft-jazz for the approaching-middle-age crowd, it’s perhaps altogether easy to dismiss Norah as an artist. But one has to admit she’s talented… and, well… just look at her. A beautiful combination of all the best that Anglo-American and Indian looks have to offer.
Lulu of Pandora’s Box, and the title character in Diary of a Lost Girl, Louise was one of the sexiest/classiest/smartest women of silent film. Light years better than the bimbo-esque Clara Bow or the overrated Gish sisters, Louise later became a cult figure recognized for her beauty and skill as an actress.
Scream Queen Barbara starred in the classic Mario Bava film Black Sunday, and then found herself stuck in a career of B-horror flicks filmed mostly in Italy. A pity, because her icy qualities and exotic looks could have made her a far bigger star.
Lara edges out Courtney Cox and Teri Hatcher for this position on the list. Why? Because goddamit, I wrote this list, and Lara, despite her too-slim frame, does something for me that those two don’t. Or… don’t do as much. I can’t say what it is, but I know it’s legit when I look at her.
So freakin’ hotter-than-hell that I don’t care if she’s a crap actress from soap opera world. Or that she’s married to Harry Hamlin. Or that she’s a ditz. At least she’s a great dancer. A really sexy dancer. Makes it on the list for that reason and also for her otherwordly lips.
For some reason she knocks Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rachel Weisz off the list. Again, I don’t know what it is… somehow Elizabeth is sexier, even if Catherine’s a better actress. But Liz also has that body… and those legs… and that freakin’ cute nose.
I know there are other more deserving women, and I know she’s just a brunette bimbo… a lingerie-bikini model… but I can’t help it. Brooke Burke makes my heart race. When I see a picture of her, I fall into a trance and it requires cold water splashed… in places… to get me out of it.
Surely this is an obvious choice. Amongst all the Hollywood elite these days, Angelina is consistently referred to as the most beautiful. Whether you agree or not, you gotta admit she’s got it, whatever it is. Lots of it. And she has those lips…
One of the most beautiful women in 40s Hollywood, star of Laura, one of the greatest (and oddest) crime melodramas ever… Gene Tierney had that legendary overbite that everyone talked about. I’ll leave the reader to determine for himself/herself what that meant.
A fantastic actress (some say the equal of Katherine Hepburn) whose career spanned five decades, she stands out for her role as Nora, wife of Nick Charles in The Thin Man, which established her sharp-as-a-tack witty persona. She turned somewhat matronly in her later roles, but was still easy on the eyes. In the silent era and the early thirties, she was considered a strangely exotic beauty in alluringly erotic roles (check her out as the gypsy temptress in The Squall, for instance) including a one-time run as treacherous offspring to Boris Karloff’s Fu Manchu.
The thinking man’s sex symbol, Tina places on the list for being A) goddamned beautiful, even in glasses (I’m one of those who finds women in glasses to be extremely sexy) and B) for being so goddamned funny. There’s the old saw that says women aren’t funny. Doesn’t apply to Tina. Head writer for Saturday Night Live for years (as well as anchorwoman for Weekend Update) before leaving to create her own (very funny) show, 30 Rock, Tina is one smart and white-hot-witty babe. Sample quote: A Harvard Medical School study has determined that rectal thermometers are still the best way to tell a baby’s temperature. Plus, it really teaches the baby who’s boss.
Okay… Diana is actually more auburn-haired… but I don’t care. (actually her real hair color is dark enough where you can’t tell). She is the original, for me… the template. The star of The Avengers, that classic 60s surreal spy show… as high-kicking Mrs. Peel. In her skin-tight, often leather outfits, she was the sexiest character in Sixties television. Also the first woman I fell for as a boy. Diana Rigg is still one of the most iconic figures of the 60s, and one of the most beautiful, classiest and talented women that have ever graced our world.
My feeling is that Winona is the most beautiful woman on earth (my personal taste is that Nicole Kidman is second—but Nicole, of course, is a redhead). Not really a very good actress, but it hardly matters when a woman looks that intensely beautiful. Clearly kinda whacky (she grew up on a commune after all) with some skeletons in her bourdoir, Winona has weathered various storms to remain a highly popular, if not award-winning actress. Also a gorgeous model, where (in fashion shoots) her beauty shines out.
I include her on the list as a nod to the youngsters, and because when I first saw her I was floored. She reminded me strongly of a college girlfriend that I was hugely enamored with. And despite her revolting association with the hated Disney corporation, she had the good taste to do some nude photography—apparently for a boyfriend. Why? Because beautiful brunettes know they got it, and unlike bimbo California blondes who’ll strip for food, a striking brunette will play the coquette and then surprise you by giving her all for a man’s pleasure. They’re the greatest. God bless the brunette.

Why aren’t there any black chicks on the list? Halle Berry?
4. Lewis - March 8th, 2008 at 6:55 am
Natalie Portman at 25?!?!I would have put her way further down, definately top 10, as for Vanessa Anne Hudgens as a bonus, all I can say is lucky boyfriend!

Good list!
7. jardojo - March 8th, 2008 at 7:04 am
I love brunettes! They say gentleman prefer blondes, well I guess Im not a gentleman. Theres just something sexy about a dark woman.
Yeah, Natalie Portman would have been up higher for me too. Same with Eva Longoria and Jennifer Love Hewitt. I’ve always thought that Tina Fey was sexy in those glasses.
8. Ant - March 8th, 2008 at 7:12 am
What, no Monica Bellucci?!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monica_Bellucci
*sits down, stunned*
9. kiwiboi - March 8th, 2008 at 7:16 am
Hmm..lemme see…
I’d add :
Juliette Binoche
Linda Fiorentino
Ashley Judd
Vanessa Williams
etc.
(I’ll stop there…I’m getting flustered!)
10. kiwiboi - March 8th, 2008 at 7:19 am
Marion Cotillard would appear to have the intellect of a KFC fork (the plastic ones) which would disqualify her from my list.
I’m referring, of course, to her (allegedly) stated belief in various conspiracy theories (incl. 9/11 and man on the moon)
11. lola - March 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Natalie Portman should have been higher up on the list.
What about asian girls Lucy Liu, and Ziyi Zhang.
12. Me - March 8th, 2008 at 7:27 am
what the hell no keira knightley she beats anyone let alone brunettes and for that reason i feel the list is void
13. Csimmons - March 8th, 2008 at 7:37 am
Im trying not to sound like a perv, but i saw Vanessa’s “photography”
14. lol - March 8th, 2008 at 7:38 am
“There’s the old saw that says women aren’t funny.” on tina Fey. I’m sure it was just a typo xD
15. Csimmons - March 8th, 2008 at 7:38 am
I too agree with Portman, 25?!? Atleast 15.
16. mandysparky - March 8th, 2008 at 7:50 am
this list sucks
17. zubair kaka - March 8th, 2008 at 7:53 am
i Vote for belucci…if you saw malena you’ll know
could this be the most controversial list ever??
18. DiscHuker - March 8th, 2008 at 7:58 am
gotta agree with ant. monica bellucci, persephone from matrix 2&3 and mary magdelene from the passion of the christ. absolutely stunning.
19. Mac - March 8th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Rose McGowan USED to have a great face, until that terrible eye lift - oh, no, sorry, “car accident that forced the lens of her glasses to cut her below one eye”, yeah.
Myrna Loy and Louise Brooks are the greatest, combining beauty and talent with fierce intelligence and fearless despite the constriction of the studio system. But the Gishes overrated? Boo! I won’t hear a word against Lillian Gish.
20. LP - March 8th, 2008 at 8:05 am
This is the worst list Ive seen, minus like three choices.
21. Tonny SS - March 8th, 2008 at 8:06 am
This list sucks
22. bwmyers18 - March 8th, 2008 at 8:13 am
Thank you so much for including the truly amazing Audrey Hepburn on this list. I would have placed her top 5 at least … probably top 2 just slightly behind the stunning DIANE LANE whose omission is almost unforgivable, but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I’ve been in love with Diane since Streets of Fire in 1984. Regardless - great list !!
23. stormy617 - March 8th, 2008 at 8:15 am
Ok as a hereto sexual woman, who can appreciate beauty in all of Earths I have a couple of questions.
Hitesh What is wrong with Rose McGowan?
And where is Alysa Milano? I think she is simply gorgeous.
Can you tell I am a Charmed fan?? LOL Although I thought Alysa was beautiful before that.
Also, what about Jacquelin Smith?
24. islanderbst - March 8th, 2008 at 8:18 am
i prefer brunettes to blondes, but this list? meh.
salma= put higher
winona= not top 25
susanna hoffs= nice inclusion, shes usually overlooked
and oh halle berry please, and maybe Mariska Hargitay from Law and Order SVU. daughter of jayne mansfield after all
25. Amber - March 8th, 2008 at 8:22 am
Could’ve done w/o Lisa Rinna…Tina Fey??
Natalie Portman should’ve been #1! At least in the top 5. She’s my favorite.
26. kiki - March 8th, 2008 at 8:23 am
i have to say natalie portman deserves to at least be on top ten.
brunettes that in my opinion, fits this list but were notably ommitted:
gong li
monica belluci
nigella lawson
catherine zeta jones
paulina pourishkova
i’m a great fan of winona. i just think she rocks.
but i wouldn’t put her in number 1.
27. kiki - March 8th, 2008 at 8:26 am
vanessa ann hudgens????
come to the philippines.
there are far more beautiful women here.
vanessa type of beauty is ordinary. most filipinas here look better.
28. Lorcan - March 8th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Natalie Portman is only 25th!??! No, definitely second after Winona (who I agree with, defo no. 1). I can’t even believe Rose McGowan gets a place on the list considering the rest of the stunning competition.
Natalie most definitely deserves to be on the other end of the scale! Didn’t you see her in “Closer” during the scenes in the strip joint? Man! …and I’m *gay*! lol
29. magnidude - March 8th, 2008 at 8:37 am
without Monica Bellucci this list is a laugh
30. lemongrass - March 8th, 2008 at 8:39 am
Geez J! forget about me? I thought I’d at least be a bonus! I loved the list- brunettes with glasses do need the attention instead of being overlooked.
31. Freil - March 8th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Zooey Deschanel please D=
32. NSEW - March 8th, 2008 at 8:51 am
in my opinion, this is by far the most one sided list made so far
usually the lists appreciate and at least attempt to accommodate everyone’s views but this one fails horribly.
all this list is is one person naming a bunch of brunettes that they think are beautiful and putting them on the internet, at least the other lists have some fact proving their positions and arrangement of whatever is being listed.
33. BrotherMan - March 8th, 2008 at 8:51 am
This list is dead on balls accurate. I agree with this list so much it might as well have been me who wrote it. I LOVE this list! Good going Randall! I prefer my women to be brunettes as well.
My fiance’ has long, dark, pitch black hair. It is that native american blood in her that gave her such midnight colored locks…and I love it to death!
34. BrotherMan - March 8th, 2008 at 8:53 am
magnidude #29: I agree with you. Monica Belluci should have been on here.
The thing with this list is that Randall seems to have included women who were not only beautiful in looks, but also made an impact on the entertainment industry as well, which is a good thing.
Still, I love this list.
35. londonafter - March 8th, 2008 at 8:55 am
eww! this list is the worst one ive seen!!!!!!!! winona ryder n1????????? Audrey Hepburn should be number 1, theres no way in hell those slutty women like Brooke Burke and Lara Flynn Boyle can be more beautiful than real actresses like her!!! this list sucks!
36. spence425 - March 8th, 2008 at 8:55 am
this could really be an endless list. it’s a pretty good list…well rounded and covering many areas of celebrity, but in reality everyone’s tastes are different, and we could argue for months about this.
for my money, the best ones that are missing are…
Keira knightley
Ashley Judd
Diane Lane (does she count as a brunette?)
i’m sure i could name 25 who i thought deserved consideration.
my only real argument is Lisa Rinna. in fact, her “otherwordly lips” are exactly what turns me off…they’re all i can look at when i see her face, and they’re disgusting.
37. Sammy - March 8th, 2008 at 8:58 am
If Monica Belucci is not included then it’s a bad list.
38. BrotherMan - March 8th, 2008 at 8:59 am
Here here spence425! I am not a Lisa Rinna fan myself either.
39. FelixMG - March 8th, 2008 at 8:59 am
Nice list, JFrater.. old school dogg with old school tastes!
A single thing irks me, however.. you would have included Tyra Banks as #26… while she is extremely beautiful, she fails miserably in every other aspect of your judgement. She is a horrible, self-touting hack… have you seen her clips of her episode where she lives as homeless? It is a shame that such people have the stupidity and bravado to patronize us about a situation that will never affect anyone in their family for generations. Please reconsider!
But great list, you are the man.
40. FelixMG - March 8th, 2008 at 9:01 am
It has been made painfully obvious to me that jfrater did not write this list. I am now aware of this.
41. Randall - March 8th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Interesting responses. I have few apologies to make. Sure, I could have placed Natalie Portman higher, but see, to me, rankings don’t matter that much until you get to the top two or three. Maybe I should think these things through better.
But does it matter? Brunettes… they’re ALL beautiful. Well… ‘cept for Rosie O’Donnell… and Kathy Bates. And Roseanne. (Ugh. He shivers with revulsion). But other than that….
ANYWAY… Monica Belluci: OF COURSE I think she’s gorgeous. But YOU try writing a list like this that pays homage to the new women AS WELL as the old. In a sense Sophia Loren is here for ALL Italian women. Monica’s not better than Sophia, that’s for damn sure.
French women: Naturally I love them, but again, you gotta make choices. Frankly the French woman who almost made this list was Audrey Tatou, star of “Amelie.” But there just wasn’t room for her in my top 25. Many of the hot French actresses I’ve known were, in fact, blondes.
Jacqueline Smith is another brunette hottie I wanted on the list, but again… 25, no more.
Also, no one noticed the absence of Raquel Welch. I did. It pained me more than I can say to leave her off. But in a sense Raquel, to me, is above all lists, like Marilyn Monroe–unless you did a list of top Sex Symbols of all time. Then those two get the top spots. Plus, Raquel, to me… while sexy—hugely sexy—was essentially just a gorgeous bod. Terrible actress (except for the notable Three Musketeers and its sequel)…. though one has to admire her longevity. She’s gotta be in her 60s now, and she’s still hot.
42. Randall - March 8th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Sorry people, but I judged Kiera Knightly disqualified because up to now she has appeared as a dark blonde as frequently as she has a brunette.
Other than that, however, she’d surely be here.
And I agree about Diane Lane. But again… you can only fit so many women on a list before it gets out of control.
43. kiwiboi - March 8th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Geez…what’s this Monica Beluchi fixation ??
Guys..Remember the golden rule with respect to unattainable women…no matter who she is, and no matter how beautiful she is, or how good she cooks, or how good she …some guy somewhere is sick and tired of putting up with her crap !!
44. jess - March 8th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Being a brunette, I’m a big fan of the list!
Thanks for all the props to brunettes!
I’m not gay, but I can appreciate the beauty in a lot of these women.
45. Tom - March 8th, 2008 at 9:17 am
I think you are missing one out:
Here is a video of her introduced by Michael Steep from REM:

46. ringtailroxy - March 8th, 2008 at 9:26 am
uhm… well… err…
ahem.i’m a bit miffed by any stereotyping based on ethnicity or race, hair color or what kind of car you drive.
i base my first impressions on what a man is doing, as opposed to what he looks like.
case and point.
2 guys waiting in a lunch line to the cafeteria on campus. one appears to be loudly braying at something that was said by his companion. the other guy, arms crossed, quizzical look on his face, and mouth shut.
here are my immediate observations, in exact order:
1.) laughing guy resembles a donkey (huge teeth and gums)
2.) quiet guy has sly smile, like a fox in a henhouse full of stupid chickens
3.) laughing guy is smartly dressed, but wears very cheap shoes
4.) quiet guy looks like a beach bum, complete with long hair and Reef sandals
5.) laughing guy is blonde
6.) quiet guy is curly-haired brunette
lust at first site with quiet guy. love after first fight with quiet guy. 13 years later, still in love with quiet guy and he’s sleeping in bed right now, drooling on the pillow, mumbling something about “makempamcakeslikeilikem”.
to think that i had never dated a brunette before him. never really found them that attractive… but that smile! that conniving, elusive nature of the brunette goes both for men and women…
that slyness is something i can never possess… because i am a natural blonde!

Someone should create a Top xx Celebrity MILFs, but that would be a hard one to create as well…or DILFs for the ladies.

Obviously you people haven’t laid your eyes on Alizée!!!!
And there is a difference between HOT and beautiful, many of those chicks above are just hot, not necessarily beautiful!

Bless you, man. What a brilliant statement, and I agree 100%. (#43). A hard lesson I’ve learned in my life.

ringtailroxy:
You forget that men and women are attracted to the opposite sex, initially, by different things. Men are more visual. Women are more arcane, relying on the visual less than subtle “signals” and observations. One system isn’t more legit than the other–it’s just the way we’re wired.
55. Mom424 - March 8th, 2008 at 10:14 am
I too appreciate the nod to brunettes who wear glasses. The sexy librarian type glasses? Your tastes definitely run to the classics Randall but I am surprised not to see Halle Berry. I consider her drop-dead gorgeous (underwear/gun scene in Swordfish). Otherwise great list.
ps; I hate Angelina Jolie, how can one person have everything?
Great face, Great Body, Intelligence, Social Conscious, and BRAD PITT. Could have spread all that around some.
56. Miss Destiny - March 8th, 2008 at 10:14 am
I am among those who believe that Natalie Portman should be higher, but I can forgive you because you included Angelina Jolie AND Norah Jones. Two of my favorite women in the world, they’re both just stunning, and so talented! I totally agree with you about Nicole Kidman as well, she’s gorgeous. (You could include her role in the Stepford Wives where she played a brunette for most of the movie!)
I’d add Shania Twain, Rachel Weisz, and Mila Kunis (my boyfriend thinks she’s hot and I kind of do too now) if it were up to me!
57. Somebody - March 8th, 2008 at 10:32 am
You should do one with redheads now!
58. Bad News - March 8th, 2008 at 10:32 am
This list is kinda creepy. Not for any inclusions/exclusions, but is a “This is who I think is hot” list really that rewarding?
Kudos to Randall for having the guts to put it together — I’m not sure I would make my predilections as transparent as he has.
59. grim - March 8th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Zoey Deschanel!
60. Sidereus - March 8th, 2008 at 11:16 am
I disagree with the placement of quite a few of these. Some I would move up higher on the list, others I would omit, etc.
Brunettes are definitely better looking than blonds or red heads in my sight. And with so many celebrities out there, I imagine it was pretty tough to pick just 25. Natalie Portman… stunning. Angelina Jolie… bleh.
One famous brunette I think is super attractive is Alizée.
61. RocknRollRehab - March 8th, 2008 at 11:24 am
What a fun list! Very suitable for a relaxing Saturday morning read
I definitely agree with Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman. I was kind of disappointed that Bettie Page wasn’t on the list though. And I agree with grim, Zoey Deschanel is cute too!
62. Urban - March 8th, 2008 at 11:29 am
How did you miss Aishwarya Rai?!?!
63. zeppelingod - March 8th, 2008 at 11:40 am
This isn’t a list of the top 25 beautiful celebrity brunettes, this is a list of sticky photos that can be found under the mattress of the guy who made this list
I’m not sure about the majority that are in the top 10. Some that are #11-25 would have fit better in the top 10 in my opinion.
#’s 1, 2, and 3 shouldn’t be #1, 2 and 3. And #’s 8, 9, and 10 shouldn’t be in the top 10.
I’ve always had a thing for Wynonna Rider, but #1?
Tina Fey #3?!?! Really? OK then. I mean, I’m all for the sexy librarian that lets her hair down, but I just can’t justify Tina being #3.
While #8 Elizabeth Hurley has a sex appeal to many, she kinda looks like a tranny most of the time.
Lisa Rina…#9? so many on the list #’s11-25 should have taken her place. She’s #8 and Hepburn is #18?!?!
#10 Laura Flynn Boyle does not deserve to be on this list, never mind in the top 10.
64. dantheman - March 8th, 2008 at 11:55 am
sorry to the writer but this is the worst list ive ever read. to have natalie portman as 25 and that high school musical bitch as number 1? terrible.
65. wholetruthy - March 8th, 2008 at 11:57 am
while i wouldn’t kick any of them out of my bed some picks are ridiculous
66. badspellir - March 8th, 2008 at 11:59 am
#19: Rose McGowan didn’t have an eye lift-she had the rest of her face lowered.
As for arguing who should be on the list and who shouldn’t be…I won’t go there. This is one man’s personal opinion and that’s okay by me.
Everybody has their own list but not everyone has their own website.
It’s all good.
67. James - March 8th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
jessica biel
68. amanda - March 8th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Aishwarya Rai is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. She is definatley more stunning than ANY of the women on this list. It’s not even true that blondes have more fun. I was a blonde kid, and when my hair started to get darker in my teens I started bleaching it. I got down to my roots last year, and feel so much sexier and I even get more male attention, even when I’m with my kid!
69. Alex - March 8th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Mary Elizabeth Winstead should’ve definetly been on that list somewhere, and I definetly agree with most of the others; Natalie Portman should’ve been higher up on the list.

70. amanda - March 8th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Oh and Megan Fox is a hottie.
71. goof_ball - March 8th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
How did Angelina Jolie not get #1? I mean, REALLY!!!
72. Yogi Barrister - March 8th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Darn you Randall! I couldn’t wait to post a comment professing my love for Tina Fey, thinking I was the only one who saw past the glasses and her sardonic scar to her true beauty. OK, no problem, I still have Diana Rigg, surely nobody remebers her from The Avengers, right? ARRGH!
It’s funny, for most lists, you want your opinions validated, but not this one. I don’t want Randall as the third wheel on my fantasy dates with the sublime Tina Fey, and if there is a third wheel, I want it to be Diana Rigg.
73. anthony p - March 8th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
This list has the same effect as epicac (spell check anyone)for me
Rose McGowan?
Lara flynn boyle?
lisa rinna?
Wynona ryder?
three of them are clones of each other? and some of the older ones just werent that great, i suppose its a personal taste thing
if i was to tweek i would throw in the likes of monica belucci, katie melua, beyonce, Aishwarya Rai, kate beckinsale the list goes on
and i just read your pre comment teri hatcher? fran descher? you must be over 40, i think im gonna blow
74. melfuK - March 8th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
christina ricci!!
so dark, mysterious, sexy, evil, innocent…shes the perfect brunette…
75. melfuK - March 8th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
oh yeah, i guess it is your list jamie…there’s so many gorgeous brunettes, you cant choose them all!!
76. Natalie - March 8th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Natalie, Natalie, Natalie… Three times
Great name, don’t you think?
77. lola - March 8th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Other than Natalie, I do not agree with this list at all.
78. Nelia - March 8th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
I’d have to add Kate Beckinsale, how insanely gorgeous is she? And she seems like a lovely person on top of it.
I loved this list though, very fun one. Sure, it is arbitrary and none of us will completely agree, but still a good time.
I know I could get a bit flamed for this… But Raquel is not a favorite of mine, I always thought she looked forty when she was 25. Sure, she had sexy down pat, but her looks don’t appeal to me. I think Monica is much more attractive, and dangerous looking really. Ever seen Brotherhood of the Wolf? I’m sure you have Randall, she is fantastic in it.
Ugh, Winona. Horrible actress, bland looks. Just find her 100% unappealing, but to each his own.
It is funny, because you have a list that mixed women I would classify as bland beautiful (elizabeth hurley, lara) and facinating beautiful (angelina, gene, tina, natalie portman…)
I would have put Angelina #1, but it is common knowledge that women everywhere fall for Angie hard, while men tend to be a bit wary. Plus she has gotten over her wild youth and become a really admirable person.
I was always into blond and redheaded guys in high school, but my current fiance is a brunette, so you never know.
Can someone do a blonds list now? I feel inferior to the brunettes right now.
79. pink_mule - March 8th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
why isn’t megan fox on here?
80. Blonde - March 8th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
“unlike bimbo California blondes who’ll strip for food.”
Quit stereotyping us. Seriously. Blonde women have to put up with so much crap from the rest of the population and it’s not fair. You wouldn’t call an African-American a ‘dumb negro’, would you? That would be racism. Blondes are a race too, and it’s about time people started to respect us!
“3 - Respect others and don’t abuse people”
I think your lists should follow your rules, don’t you?
81. Sarah - March 8th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
I may not agree with all of your choices, but overall I love the list. Especially with the inclusion of Winona Rider. I love her look. As well as Audrey Hepburn.
I do have to ask, if you all hate the lists so much, why not make your own? You don’t even have to publish them. It just seems fair that we respect his opinion if we expect people to respect ours. Don’t mean to start an argument, just stating my opinion on the matter. At least be courteous in your critique.
82. kiwiboi - March 8th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
“Blondes are a race too, and it’s about time people started to respect us!”
Randall - about your “blonde bimbo” comments : Q.E.D
83. BrotherMan - March 8th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
I agree Sarah (#81). People should respect all opinions here. What I feel people do not realize is that the vast majority of the lists on this website is opinion based. Look at the movie and music lists for instance.
I caught some flaming with my first list Top 16 Awesome Fast Food Restaurants. It was based on opinion as well. A lot of people wanted to know why I did not include such-and-such restaurant on there. For one, I only included the ones that I have eaten at on a semi-regular basis and two, I live in the eastern U.S. and my locale and travels have limited my exposure to certain restaurants.
84. zeppelingod - March 8th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Kate Beckinsale…good call with those of you who brought her name up, she would be in my top 10 for sure. She was sexy in the Underworld movies and was stunning in ‘The Aviator’ where she played Ava Gardner. And I would include Christina Ricci, loved ‘Buffalo 66′ although not a favorite movie of most people. Another that comes to mind is Charisma Carpenter….google her
85. zeppelingod - March 8th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Alyssa Milano…abso-fricken-lutely
I had the biggest crush on her when she was on ‘who’s the boss’…and just to clarify, she’s 5 years older than me so I wasn’t a perv thinking she was sexy on ‘Who’s the Boss’ lol…besides, she was 20 when that show ended…
86. BrotherMan - March 8th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
zepplingod: Buffalo ‘66 was bad ass! I just watched it again the other day. I am suprised that I found the DVD. Do you know how much Gallo had to do with that film? Pretty much everything it seems! Great flick!
87. riley - March 8th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Worst list ever… this is nothing but a matter of personal taste. The choices are simply opinion, and now all these other people are arguing their personal choices. It’s kinda useless and I’m a little disappointed with my favorite website.
Lists about hot celebrities could be anywhere. Other peoples opinions were not even considered.
88. AlyshiaH - March 8th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Ok.. Haliey freaking berry! I dont care who you are, did you see catwoman??? Is there anything sexier then that woman in leather, with a bull whip in her hand? Yeah i though you would see things my way! And howard Huges (my like 6th cousins.. maybe 7th on my moms side) dated Audry Hepburn as well, and he had some DAMNED good taste in women. There are some women on here that i totaly agree with.. and some that i have no idea where you are comeing from with them. I am a brunette woman, and i turn heads even being 8 months pregnate, i have the classic american beauty, and some of these women on your list, honestly dont do us brunettes justice. Just my opinion though…
89. Deliciousdanger - March 8th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
What about Eva Longoria? Oh oh and Catherine Zeta Jones… I LOVE her. And Eliza Dushku? (She played Faith on Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
Those are my three favourites, but still, I agree with *some* on this list.
90. Pyrratus - March 8th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Angelina Jolie and Vanessa Anne Hudgens need to be off this list. Other than that I would agree with most of these. Except maybe Winona being first. =/
91. giblet - March 8th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
I thought the lists on this website were supposed to be about more than just personal preference.
There are many lists that rank women’s attractiveness, but any decent list should be something more substantial than just a gut reaction. What was the point of the five-paragraph introduction about the criteria for picking these women, when many of the descriptions contradict those criteria? ‘…I don’t care if she’s a crap actress from soap opera world. Or that she’s married to Harry Hamlin. Or that she’s a ditz.’ Really? Because it seems like that doesn’t really fit with the ‘dangerous cleverness’ you say brunettes have.
Plus the Vanessa Hudgens description is just disturbing: ‘a striking brunette will play the coquette and then surprise you by giving her all for a man’s pleasure.’ Seriously, the girl looks like she’s 15. (and yes, I realise she’s probably older than that, that doesn’t make it any less creepy)
It’s also fairly disturbing that a list of supposedly the most beautiful brunettes would be made up almost entirely of white women, considering most dark-haired people in the world are not white.
92. Smerkis - March 8th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
this is not up to the standards of most listverse lists. Tina Fey is not an attractive woman. And certanly not more attractive the Rose McGowan. And where the hell are Kiera Knightly, Hallie Berry, Beyonce, Penelope Cruz, and…..fuck it Princess Leia, she kicked alot of ass. And i wish she would kick mine.
93. Smerkis - March 8th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Eva Mendes
94. Alicia - March 8th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
I was born on the same day as Winona Ryder.
95. Nelia - March 8th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
It isn’t all white women, there is a Hispanic woman (Salma) and a half-Indian woman (Norah Jones).

Yes, the list could have been more diverse, but personal taste is personal taste. Randall seems into pale brunettes, check out the top 5. Not so much as a tan among them
I really don’t see the objection to personal taste lists. I thought this one was fun to read.
Oh, and to correct my previous post, I wrote Raquel Welch when I meant Sofia Loren, they have always looked remarkably similar to me and i tend to mix them up, but my opinion stands
96. zeppelingod - March 8th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
BrotherMan #86:
glad to see someone else out there liked Buffalo ‘66
Vincent Gallo wrote the story and the screenplay, directed it, starred in it and he composed and performed most of the music in it.
There’s another movie he did called ‘The Brown Bunny’ which he was just as heavily involved in making. I haven’t seen it yet, but I definately want to.
97. fishing4monkeys - March 8th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
I don’t understand why so many people think Jolie is so attractive…I don’t think she is at all…
98. Dread Pirate Bob - March 8th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
I’m not going to say much cuz I wouldn’t have picked 60% of them and Audrey Hepburn should be number one. Just to be an annoying spoil sport I will mention though that Winona Ryder is a natural blond who dyes her hair dark.
99. erin - March 8th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Angelina should have been # 1
100. erin - March 8th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Audrey Hepburn # 2
The End
101. Csimmons - March 8th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
101 YES! My streak of one off is continued!
102. Sedulous - March 8th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Ok seriously?!? The first half of the list was better than the second half. 2 words….Nadia…Bjorlin. AMAZING!! Look her up( http://imdb.com/name/nm0004294/ ) and don’t just judge by her unblieveable beauty but by her talent. She known mainly for Days of Our Lives so she isn’t the greatest actress but she’s incredibly cultured and sings opera. As well as speaks a few languages. She is and always will be my number one. But maybe she’s just too good looking for this list. I also have to mention Erica Durance, I would probably take her over anyone on that this as well.
103. giblet - March 8th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Nelia,
Notice I said ‘almost entirely’ white.
Hispanic is an ethnicity - not a race. It is possible to be hispanic and white. And Norah Jones is mixed race, which means she has just as much a claim to being white as she does to being Bengali.
104. js - March 8th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
where is kate beckinsdale?
105. ringtailroxy - March 8th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
i have been proven again that the comments are far more interesting than the list!
Blonde (80): as a natural blonde myself, i have endured decades of stupid blonde jokes, the quintessential ‘blonde” gag birthday gift (please, no more penis-shaped water bottles or tee shirts with directions), and being singled out by the creepy drunk guy in the bar because i’m the only blonde in my tight circle of gal-pals…(makes me more obvious, like an albino deer)
but classifying us as a race? that just places you directly into the stereotype! Duh! just put your index finger into the dimple on your chin while you are at it! then smack your forehead a few times for good measure!
we are not a race, silly girl! we are merely a recessive gene, and within that novelty, we are beautiful. for as Edgar Allen Poe said of Ligeia, “There is no exquisite beauty without some strangeness in the proportion”
in a room full of brunettes, the blonde does stand out!(and you had better notice me not because i am blonde, but because i’m the woman with the glass of Gavi and smiling like a cheshire cat)
ringtailroxy
106. Daniel - March 8th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
I’m sorry to say but this is bad list. What you wrote is pretty offensive and perverted.
Secondly, I just disagree with your choices.
107. MINDY - March 8th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
FIRST OF ALL—
1) EVA MENDES — SHOULD BE ON THIS LIST
2) KATE BECKINSALE — SHOULD BE IN TOP TEN
3) HALLE BERRY —- SHOULD BE IN TOP TEN
4) JESSICA ALBA — SHOULD BE NOT TOO HIGH ON LIST
5) RACHAEL MCADAMS — WOULD BE MY NUMBER ONE
GREAT LIST THOUGH…
108. romerozombie - March 8th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Brunettes
109. Kelsey - March 8th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Wow, what a stupid list. I only recently subscribed to your blog, and I’m sure I wouldn’t put a dent in the number of current subscribers by taking you off my bloglines, but for fuck’s sake
“beautiful brunettes know they got it, and unlike bimbo California blondes who’ll strip for food, a striking brunette will play the coquette and then surprise you by giving her all for a man’s pleasure. They’re the greatest. God bless the brunette.”
As a California blonde, I think you’re an asshole.
110. sokeroida - March 8th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Helena Bonham Carter is way up there for me. (:
111. Catriona - March 8th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Great List…Catherine Zeta Jones would be my first pick (because she’s so beautiful) and Angelina Jolie because she is so sexy. I prefer the top half of the list myself but then ‘Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder.’
112. kiwiboi - March 8th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
“As a California blonde”
Erm…you wouldn’t be hungry by any chance…
113. HollyTamale - March 8th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
I expect to see a “Top Strawberry Blondes” on here one day.
114. Revolution - March 8th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
I am SO happy to see this list! I am a brunette who hasn’t been feeling the love in this blonde haired world. Excellent list
115. BlaiddDrwg - March 8th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Audrey Hepburn definately my number one, and Natalie Portman should be top ten at least.
116. Michael Llaneza - March 8th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
How about redheads next ?
117. Randall - March 8th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Reading through the comments, I was tempted to start offering answers, but I just don’t care. Fact is some of the critical comments were fuckin’ funny. I appreciate that.
But I must say… this list was MEANT to be entirely subjective (my list, my opinions–don’t like it, go write your own) and people have their own opinions that differ from mine… whoop dee doo.
I’m all for moving Natalie Portman up higher in the ranking though–again, ranking didn’t matter that much to me.
But one thing I gotta address. The occasional asshole here who has called this list (and/or me) “perverted” and “creepy.”
My answer to that? Get a freakin’ life you hypocrites. Stop pretending we don’t all look at beautiful women and make lists like this from time to time, if only in our heads. I posted one online, with a few odd selections to make it spicy and controversial. Purely because, like Jamie, I love putting lists together. Sometimes they’re just pure fluff. So what? Don’t like it? Go write your own damn list.
And guess what? Vanessa Hudgens is over 19 years old. Got a big surprise for you, you uptight assholes. Yes, we men look at beautiful women and sometimes they ARE 19 or 20 years old. Nope, I don’t pay attention to women that are younger–they don’t exist for me. And the fact is that I rarely pay attention to women who are even Vanessa’s age. I’d certainly never date a woman that much younger than me. But why am I explaining this? Honest men admit that they look at gorgeous women. Phonies and tightasses pretend they don’t so they don’t run the risk of offending other phonies and tightasses.
118. justpostinghere - March 8th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
I just love you for putting leslie caron, audrey hepburn, and natalie wood in there. Most beautiful women that ever lived.
Angelina jolie is beautiful too, but we already knew that.
I’m a brunette, we a fucking great.
119. Adam - March 8th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
The original French brunette surely was Jeanne Moreau to Brigit Bardeau’s (sp?) blonde. A charismatic siren the like of which we sadly don’t have today. Tres chic.
120. BrotherMan - March 8th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Randall said #117: But I must say… this list was MEANT to be entirely subjective (my list, my opinions–don’t like it, go write your own)
I agree whole-heartedly, my friend! Just like I felt about some of the reactions on my first list: if you have an idea for a new list or one that would
“compliment” another (such as Another Top 16 Fast Food Restaurants or a Top 25 Beautiful Celebrity Blondes, etc.) then write one and send it to Jamie. I would love to see more people contribute lists myself and between the forum suggestions and the comments on these lists it seems that there is atleast some potential out there. Whining and complaining is not going to change the fact that this list is on here.
Bottom line: If you want to see a difference then BE THE DIFFERENCE (this requires action)!
121. cici - March 8th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
this is a weak list. the minute i saw lisa rinna, i knew it wasn’t a list i wanted to see.

I’ve always had a thing for Tina Fey
123. stevenh - March 8th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Yo Randall!
While I do not agree with all of your choices, I think that you did a bangup job here. Excellent research and a wonderful span of time (from the silent movies to the present) and place (ok, no Asia or Africa - but we were warned).
You have reminded me of many lovelies that I haven’t thought of in quite some time. And for that - I thank you.
Of course, you also put my personal favorite, Diana Rigg, as number two. So for today, you can do no wrong!
124. MadKabs - March 8th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Great list, but no Jackie Kennedy?
125. Diogenes Tangled - March 8th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
I prefer “none pigment haired” women over brunettes any day. That’s where the finger points = in the future we will all be translucent anyway.
What would all these beauties look like mushed up into a big ball?
My sensitive libido cant handle too many pretties all at once. An Overload of what is beautiful can be nausiating sometimes on obsesive minds and with the powers of the computer age, another finger points at the Morphing Ball of Beauty
blah blah
126. Diogenes Boogie - March 8th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
none non nun pig meat hairnettes
thats what I meant
127. Niecy - March 8th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
okay randall i understand that this is a subjective list but i don’t understand how any red-blooded male could see lisa rinna as attractive. “other worldy lips”? no, no they’re from this world…from an angry doctor it seems. i mean if u desire to kiss lips like that just find someone with a horrible case of hemorroids.
128. Bad News - March 8th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Niecy 127: Funniest. Post. Ever.
129. Yogi Barrister - March 8th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Madkabs #124, good catch. My list of the 25 most beautiful brunettes would look similar to Randall’s although I would have made room for: Vivian Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, and Isabella Rossellini. Instead of Rose McGowan, might as well go with the original Goth beauty, Carolyn Jones.
130. Satori - March 8th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Wow-of all the important lists, the educated, inspiring lists, the quizzical, witty lists, the intellectually stimulating, satirical lists, the bizarre, strange, obscure lists, the ridiculous, appauling lists, the objective, open minded lists and so on and so forth-
I’ve never read one so arbitrary, so despotic, so autocratic and been so affably appauled by a collection of names that seems so conjectured in my life-this is so intentionally self serving, I have to be admit, I am completely at a loss as to WHY this would qualify as a list of any value. This is a poor addition to a collection of conceptualized cataloges containing, if nothing else, room for input and exchange.
I usually feel like I’ve left the site with information that I am glad I took the time to reflect on, but this one has to be the top #1 wasted time list-I can see it being on a personal blog, but this just seems like your personal wet dream wish list Randall.
And responding with “whoop dee do”, come on, for someone who demands leeps and bounds more of people in any other list I’ve seen you post about and that is your reply? “whoop dee do”-see I thought the list was childish at first, and then I read that response and I KNEW that it was childish. I’m sorry-Randall I usually have a tremendous amount of respect for your opinion(s) and I’m glad that you paid homage to a list of great women but that’s the most that I can say for it.
Really, does a dis-service being in the company of most other lists on here…
I thought that there was some system of merit to include a list on here, but apparently it’s completely random. How unaccomplished. How very, very unaccomplished.
On the other hand, it is light hearted and I can give you that much. I’m not really this much of a hard ass-but that was my first response. I could have just NOT read it-the name and description say it all really-and though I do feel the way that I expressed above, it has as much right to be here as any other list. I will say that I was glad to see that the personal contributions to the film/music or other industry were listed with the contestants (we shall call them).
You made a list then Randall. Good for you.
131. ultrajones - March 8th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Satori likes to talk a lot. I got two names for your list. Kate Beckinsale. Monica Bellucci. You simply cannot have a list of beautiful brunettes without Monica. Kate’s hair alone is a incredible.
132. copperdragon - March 8th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
would have liked to see Lucy Liu or Rachel Wiecz on the list.
i was wondering what happened to Rose - when did the “accident” happen?

This list should be Titled - 25 Beautiful Celebrity Brunettes (according to Randall)
Natalie Portman - 25? are you high? she should be number 1
No Monica Belluci its obvious that you haven’t seen here in Malena to appreciate her beauty.
I also agree with Ashley Judd

137. willis - March 9th, 2008 at 12:53 am
I respect a man’s taste in the slender gender. Now for my say:
I was pleasantly surprised at #1, I always felt she was cute in her movies (Edward Scissorhands, Mr.Deeds) and she reminds me of a girl I liked in college. But, I am amazed you left out Catherine Zeta-Jones. I also have a fascination with Mary Louise-Parker and Stacy London. Tina Fey is great, agreed.
My Choice for #1? Mila Kunis! She plays Jackie from “That 70’s Show.”
Brunettes are the best.
138. Fiben B of Garth - March 9th, 2008 at 12:55 am
alucard at #134 has it. This is one hell of a preliminary, provisional, part 1 of a series of…
So, lemme add to the clamour (in no particular order);
Zi Yi Zhang
Frances O’Connor
Olivia Hussey
Kate Beckinsale
Vanessa Williams
Zhang Ziyi
Maggie Cheung

And Louise Brooks not in the Top 10? Haven’t you seen Pandora’s Box?

141. Twinkle - March 9th, 2008 at 4:42 am
@140 i was wondering where adriana lima is on this list. she wipes everyone off.
142. SUN - March 9th, 2008 at 4:53 am
“I also wanted a list of women who fit this vague, personal and indefinable visual image I have of the “perfect brunette.” Don’t ask me what that is, I can’t say.”
Everyone else can - caucasian. Indefinable? LOL
Throwing Tyra out as a weak possibility (”…we’ll say”) as if she just supposedly just missed by one - lame.
How about a list Top 5 Celebrity Brunettes, Even Though Theyre Not Caucasians. If that’s too tough, how about Top 3?
This stops about being PC when a list extends to 25 and you still cant acknowledge one stunning African American or Asian that belongs among them.
143. dave4248 - March 9th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Pretty good list, but what gives? No Jane Russell?
144. Mom424 - March 9th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Sun and the rest of you pc fools; Listen up, I am going to defend Randall. Do you folks not realize that what you are attracted to and what you find attractive depends entirely on what you’re exposed to. Randall and I are of an age. How many beautiful women of color do you think either of us were exposed to in our youth. I can tell you that I didn’t even meet a black person until I was in grade 4. I was born in France, but I lived in Alberta until grade 4. My parents are not prejudiced or xenophobic, there just weren’t any black folk where we lived. Even popular culture generally portrayed minorities in a less than stellar way. Remember JJ from Good Times? (Sidney Poitier is the exception). If I was to do a list of sexiest men as Randall did, focusing on looks, I’m pretty sure it would be mostly white men; what I was raised on and what was imprinted on me. It is visceral not intellectual. Now before you all call me some sort of racist, you should know that I am the least prejudiced person I know; I understand assholes come in every color. I dated guys of every race, but I ended up marrying a white guy from a military family, protestant upbringing, eldest child in a non-broken, upper middle class home…Holy smokes, someone like me, someone who has shared my experiences, someone who knows where I’m coming from.
People; You Like What You Know!
PS; I would pick Denzel Washington over Richard Gere any day. Unlike Randall, I can never get past the “ditz factor”.
I can’t even look at Tom Cruise without snickering, and I bet his penis is as small as his intellect.
145. FifthSonata - March 9th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Eh. I am disappointed by this list. It’s not very interesting to read people argue over something as subjective as beauty.
146. Jona - March 9th, 2008 at 11:16 am
hey now… there is something to say about beautiful blondes too! Not all blondes are bimbos who will strip for anything they want!
i suggest a top 25 Beautiful Celebrity Blondes too!
thanks
147. Satori - March 9th, 2008 at 11:34 am
I just have to add, even though I feel like a HUGE hypocrite…Why hasn’t anyone mentioned the breath-taking JENNIFER CONNELLY? I think that she may be the most beautiful brunette I’ve seen, as far as celebrities go-and she’s intelligent. (From House of Sand and Fog, Labrinthe, Inventing the Abbotts)-also, brings to mind-what about Liv Tyler or Neve Campbell and Denise Richards springs to mind…omg…I’m SUCH a hypocrite. Sorry. (hangs head in shame)…
148. marqueemark - March 9th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Great list, I LOVE brunettes, and I also think Winona is the hottest girl ever.
149. Andrew - March 9th, 2008 at 11:41 am
I don’t agree with this list at all. I find it rather bad. I know given the subject we won’t all agree but… but this isn’t even close.
150. M - March 9th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
i dont understand why african american women aren’t on this list. They are just as beautiful. This is exactly why society sees lighter skin as more beautiful….which shouldn’t be installing in minds..
151. suoehprom - March 9th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Monica Belucci…come on man.
152. Mike - March 9th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Where is Jessica Alba on this!?!?
153. Veronica - March 9th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
I love this site and it’s lists, but I have to say, it is pretty racist. Why are African American women (who are brunettes) not even listed? I mean you can’t tell me there are no beautiful stunning African American woman (or even Biracial) not good enough to fit on that list? Vanessa Williams? Halle Berry? Lena Horne? Come on now. And then you people bitch and moan when we start our own black magazines, pageants, etc.
154. Veronica - March 9th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Mom424, how dare you? It’s not being PC, it’s about acknowledging that all races of women have beauty. African Americans are part of this country, they are Americans too and deserve to be recognized for their beauty. The list is about 25 brunettes, all of them are white women. Come on. Obviously the slave masters and southern rednecks found African American women beautiful enough, they couldn’t keep their hands out of them—that’s the reason why blacks in this country come in an array of colors and features!
155. Miss Destiny - March 9th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Veronica - This list was written by ONE person who was stating HIS opinion in regards to brunette women. Having a particular taste in women does not make you racist. It’s just what you’re attracted to. If you don’t agree with the views and opinions of the list submitter, why don’t you try submitting your own list? Being constructive seems a much more positive approach than showing so much resentment over an opinion that you disagree with.
156. Mom424 - March 9th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Veronica; Are you stupid? Did you even read my comment? Either you did not, or you are not intelligent enough to understand.
157. Bad News - March 9th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Miss Destiny: Hopefully, the lists here allow for some back-and-forth. This one doesn’t, which is why it seems oddly out of place. Anyone could put this list together — but do you really want to know who I think is hot??
Don’t get me wrong — a discussion of aesthetics is valuable. But it should be more universal.
158. Veronica - March 9th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Mom424, you are stupid and ignorant. I’ve read through your post. You should be exposed to beautiful women of color by now, we are not in the 1950s or whatever age you are talking about. Stupid witch. We are in the internet age, the world is small. You should have seen enough beautiful women of all colors. If he wanted to reflect his own ideas, he should have said “MY Top 25 list of Beautiful Celebrity Brunettes” instead of making his views general law! See, if you did not call me out of my name, I would not have responded to you like this.
159. El Capitan - March 9th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Myrna Loy was a redhead…
160. Miss Destiny - March 9th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Bad News - But it’s wrong and unfair to accuse someone of being racist just because they neglected to add an African-American woman on a list like this. It’s also unfair to judge the entire site based upon the opinion of one man who doesn’t even run the site. I’m sure if JFrater took exception to the list and saw it as racist, it would not have been posted.
Veronica - You obviously did not read Mom424’s post very carefully because she was talking about when she was younger, and how what she was exposed to THEN helped to determine her tastes NOW. Not everyone on the Internet is of this generation. Hell, I’m only 23 and I could count the number of African-American kids I graduated with on one hand. That doesn’t make me ignorant or racist, it just means I’m from a predominantly white area. My parents taught me to respect everyone equally, but they didn’t say anything about having to be attracted to them. The two ideas aren’t one and the same.
Again, if people are taking THIS much exception to the list, I suggest submitting your own. How about a Top 25 Beautiful African American celebrities? I wouldn’t object to seeing that, I would in fact enjoy it. There are plenty of beautiful and talented women of African descent who could make the list.
161. Bad News - March 9th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Wait a minute — there is no legitimate accusation of racism. Randall wasn’t saying “These are the most beautiful brunettes”. Clearly, it’s a personal list, and he has no requirement to favor all races. This would have been more entertaining in the forums section, rather than as a main page list.
I’m not condemning the site for it’s inclusion. I love the site! Nor am I condemning Randall for his tastes — they’re his. I just think this is too personal to have value for most readers.
162. Shadow - March 9th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
I definitely agree with Rose McGowan and Winona Ryder in this one. Damn ,they’re both nearly perfect. For me it’s the face, especially the eyes. I know of only one other woman who captivates me more, and I’m dating her now. So…great list!
163. boner360 - March 9th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
worst list ever. i feel like a star trek nerd created it.
164. Recluse - March 9th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Without Jennifer Connelly and Sandra Bullock, this list is a sham. What about Morena Baccarin, too?
165. lilium - March 9th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Lisa Rinna?!?! i think i just vomited in my mouth a little, that women is so unattractive. otherworldly lips, you bet, those things have so much fat injected into them theres no way they could ever exist in nature and i would hope not because they look deformed and monstrous. But i guess if insane, fake tanned, fake boobed fake everything plastic monsters are you’re style..
166. Tonny SS - March 9th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Seriously, whoever made this list, you have a very bad taste. Please, don’t ever attempt another beauty list. I’m scared that you might list Lucy Liu as top 25 beautiful Asian, or Paris Hilton as top 25 beautiful blond.
I see about 5-6 that definitely deserves to be there and missing about 20 who are more worthy. And you actually post the worst pictures of the actress you are trying to claim as top beauty. Look at Leslie Caron, Diana Rigg.
167. Satori - March 9th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Veronica;
I don’t dispute that there are as many beautiful women of color, and of asiatic decent, and of latin decent that are equally beautiful-but again, this isn’t an objective list-it’s one persons taste/opinion. Why don’t u make a list of your own of beautiful women of color? And FYI, this is not a mutually exclusive American website and all the contributors/commenters are in the U.S. which I think is important for you to know. I think Miss Destiny (#155) said it best…read that comment.
What I think is funny about the implied “racism” is that if it were a list of EXCLUSIVELY Women of color, or Asian or Indian etc.–would anyone bat an eyelash? Doubtful.
168. Satori - March 9th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I meant all contributors/commenters are NOT in the U.S.
169. StepUpFoo - March 9th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Worst list I have ever seen on this website. What the hell were you thinking. Winona Ryder? Where the hell is Jennifer Connelly?
170. tb222 - March 9th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Tina Fey at 3?? Kill yourself please.
171. Sue - March 9th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Ok list….but in my opinion a list of beautiful women isn’t complete without the slightest mention of halle berry.seriously.and kate beckinsale is gorgeous too, plus natalie portman should have been higher on the list and rosie mcgowan shouldn’t have appeared here.
172. SUN - March 10th, 2008 at 1:30 am
Mom,
This isnt 25 Beautiful Celebrity Brunettes but 25 Randall’s Brunette crushes that fit a narrowly defined image.
You think I dont have a type? No matter how you, he or I came to that preference, it doesnt mean we should take a list thats already going to be subjective and create one thats completely biased to parade examples of our specificly defined version of the title.
As I pointed out, he says “vague, personal and indefinable visual image I have of the ‘perfect brunette’” when its a very specific, personal and well-defined image.
He’s entitled to it but you dont go listing it with such an encompassing title. We are not going to have a list of the Most Talented Country Singers extends to 25 and not have one female singer on the list because all Ive known is male country singers. You either rename the title or not post such a biased list.
173. Drogo - March 10th, 2008 at 2:33 am

174. alucard - March 10th, 2008 at 3:36 am
Geeez people really take this stuff seriously don’t they? calling people names, do we really have to do that to get our thought across (such passion). Relax people! chill!
JF: how can i put smileys on my comment?
175. jfrater - March 10th, 2008 at 3:43 am
alucard: just put a colon followed by a closed bracked - : ) with no space between them
176. Mom424 - March 10th, 2008 at 3:45 am
Sun; Your point I concede. Maybe ‘Randall’s Top 25 Classic Brunettes’ would have been a better title. Even then people would have complained; they don’t read the intro, or they read something they don’t understand (I’m thinking the word visceral), and rather than ask, jump in all in a huff. Holy smokes, so much controversy over a sunday morning fluff piece. A well written piece of fluff, but fluff none the less.
177. andy one eye - March 10th, 2008 at 4:14 am
kelly le brock need i say more
178. Mom424 - March 10th, 2008 at 5:39 am
Veronica; I apologize for being nasty at you. Calling me ignorant is a poor insult though, bitch would have been more apt. I still contend you didn’t understand my point. Satori and Miss Destiny have made it clear, have they not?
179. Randall - March 10th, 2008 at 5:52 am
Mom:
Thanks for defending me.
About this charge painting me as a crypto-racist… I can do nothing but shrug it off. There’s little use in arguing about it. Would a token Halle Berry or Tyra Banks really have made a difference? What about Asians? I don’t know of any that are A) well known and B) I would have wanted to put on here. (I’m referring to East Asians in this respect). I apologize for offending anyone, and I mean that sincerely. But I don’t know what else to say.
I wanted to do a light-hearted list of this nature as a quick-off counterpart to other lists I’m working on of a far more intellectual nature. I guess it was my way of trying to NOT look like the gigantic bore around here. Originally my idea was to shoot for a far less subjective list–try to *literally* come up with a list of beautiful brunettes from (fairly recent) history. Then I realized… how can I write such a list, ignoring my own personal tastes? How can I judge who belongs here if I try not to involve taste? It occurred to me I just had to go ahead and write MY list of brunettes. Maybe it was an ill-conceived idea, I don’t know. But we’ll all get over it, I’m sure.
Oh… and why brunettes? Because I have a special attraction to them. I never knew why, I just always did. I’ve joked that it’s because of Diana Rigg. Maybe it was.
Couple other things to clear up: Somebody said Myrna Loy was a redhead…. well… yes and no. My understanding is that she did sometimes go red, but that her real hair color was a dark auburn. In any case in many of her roles her hair *is* very dark, even black in appearance.
Jessica Alba has been brought up many times. Of course I considered her. But she appears as a blonde at least as often as a brunette…so I discounted her.
Also… someone joked about Carolyn Jones. Actually–I almost included her. But again…. while she’s known for playing proto-goth brunette Morticia Adams, Carolyn appeared as a blonde in her career at least as frequently as a brunette. I don’t even know what her true hair color was.
I’d like to move on now to a list that will redeem me after this debacle.
Though I still say Tina Fey is beautiful. It’s not just about the looks, kids. It’s about who the person is on the inside. Of course, I don’t know what she’s like
