The weekend has arrived again, but do you want it to be the same as every weekend? Here are 10 things to do this weekend that you probably wouldn’t normally do. Pick just one thing off the list and add something different to your weekend.
1. Visit a Planetarium
Chances are, if you are reading this, you probably have at least a passing interesting in science and space. Why not go to your local planetarium this weekend? As well as getting the best view of the night sky that you can see from earth (unless you live in the Arctic maybe), Planetaria often have specialised shows on the weekends.
2. Take a Barista Coffee Course
Are you sick of making bad coffee? If so, why not see if you can find a good barista course this weekend and learn how to make coffee like a pro? If you can’t find one, you may be able to convince the barista at your local coffee shop to show you how it’s done.
3. Take a Defensive Driving Course
If you haven’t already done a Defensive Driving Course, now is as good a time as any to do it. You learn evasive techniques, safety tips, and get to race around obstacle courses. Not only do you have fun, but you learn to keep yourself safe on the road.
4. Test Drive your Dream car
Most of us have a dream car (mine is a Bentley) – why not call your local dealer and organise a test drive? If it is particularly expensive you may have to do a bit of faking on the telephone so you sound like you can afford one. What could be nicer than driving your favourite car through the city. Occasionally you are allowed to take a car for half a day – if so, why not combine this one with number 9 (the Posh Picnic) and make a day of it!
5. Visit a Day Spa
Men and women alike need to take care of their skin and bodies, so why not find a nice treatment at a day spa? At the least you can get a massage with aromatherapy. What better way is there to relax after a long week at work? I recommend doing this as early as possible in the weekend. After you are done and are feeling great, why not try number 6 (Theatre or Opera) for the evening?
6. Go to the Theatre or Opera
I wonder how many readers have been to the Opera or the Theatre? Probably the majority haven’t. If you pick well, the opera can be very interesting – it is not like the old days where fat ladies prance around in old fashioned clothes. The same is true of the theatre. I would recommend giving a modern opera a try. Some composers you might find interesting: Alban Berg, Dmitri Shostakovich, Bela Bartok, Alfred Schnittke, Benjamin Britten, and Philip Glass. 7. Take a Coach Tour
If you are new to your town, there is no better way to get to know it than taking a bus tour. You will learn about many interesting parts of the city you probably don’t know about. If you are a long time citizen of your town, this is a great way to discover new things about the city that you didn’t know. If you live close to another city that you don’t often visit, why not take a bus there and do a tour of that city?
8. Book a Last Minute Hotel Room
This one is good for couples or groups. There are lots of resources on the internet to find last minute cheap hotel rooms. Why not book a night in a hotel you normally can’t afford and have an evening in with movies and alcohol. The best thing is that you don’t need to clean up the next day! Just remember to pack your anti-hangover cures.
9. Posh Picnic
Everyone loves a picnic from time to time, but why not have a good old fashioned posh picnic? Make (or buy) little sandwiches with salmon, cucumber, egg, or any other posh sandwich filling. Make (or buy) a posh cake. Take a nice rug to sit on and take your best cutlery and real glasses and plates. Don’t forget the champagne – I recommend Perrier Jouët Belle Époque.
10. Visit an Old Friend
We all have friends that we haven’t seen in a long time. Why not give them a call and get together this weekend? One of the nicest ways to spend an evening is at home (at your own or your friends’) with beer or wine and good conversation. If the weather is good in your part of the world, have a barbecue and make it a night to remember.

if anyone does deucde to go to the theatre, is it AWESOME!!! i recommend Wicked. It’s about the Wicked witch of the west, from the wizard of Oz. but instead of people always hating her the play is basically herlife story. ohh and she actually has a name, Elphaba

These are all great if you have the money to do them.
1. Visit a Planetarium : I think the closest operating planetarium to me is over 100 miles away. Luckily I have a wicked awesome telescope.
2. Take a Barista Coffee Course: I have no idea what that means but I make a killer cup-o-joe anyways so….
3.Take a Defensive Driving Course: Again, I have no clue where you would do that. If you went to the DMV here with that request , they would laugh at you. Defensive driving courses take place on a daily basis here however. We call it Rt.460
4. Test Drive your Dream car: That is something easily done here for there is a 8 mile stretch of car lots. But after awhile the sales people , who by now know you on a first name basis, tend to avoid you.
5. Visit a Day Spa: We may have one of those around but it is expensive. And lame.
6. Go to the Theatre or Opera: The closest theater, we call them theaters not “theatres”, to here is 45 miles away. They are building one down town but it has been a work in progress for years. Sometimes on rare occasions you can catch a play at the local University. Once again, too expensive where I live unless the college is putting it on.
7. Take a Coach Tour: Here we call that the BAT system (city bus) and I would only recommend it if you need to get across town really quickly and have a D.U.I. . But at $1.50 one way, I have actually been bored enough to ride it just to have something to do.
8. Book a Last Minute Hotel Room: This was fun when I was 19 But most hotels around here will not allow locals to stay. And $90 a night to stay in a room 2 miles from my home is kind of dumb.
9. Posh Picnic: Little sandwiches? Perrier Jouët Belle Époque? We do chicken and beer here if we can afford it and can find a place where the cops won’t run us off or arrest us for drinking in public.
10. Visit an Old Friend: All of the old friends that I would even want to visit live hundreds of miles away.
While these all may be cool things to do this weekend, most of these things are moderately expensive, especially if you have to drive 100 miles.
Here is my list “10 Cool Things to do This weekend if you only have $15 and live in a Crappy little Hick Town”
1. Call up a friend, get a J and a couple bottles of Boone’s Farm and go to the lake.
2. Go to the Mall and hang out with the Goth kids and harass security.
3. Go to a bar that has a nice drink special going on and karaoke.
4. Throw rocks at cars. (for the kids)
5. Go to the Library and talk really loud until someone shushes you then storm out in a rage while calling them childish names like “monkey head” or “poopy butt”.
6. Go fishing, hiking or swimming.
7. Go online and find a stranger to “get it on” with.
8. Go catch a game.
9. Construct a U.F.O. out of aluminum foil and helium and scare the crap out of the locals.
10: And my favorite, surf listverse.com all weekend.

West Virginia. I’m not sure if it’s a law or not but they started it about 10 years ago when the newer hotels opened. I guess they heard rumors of what was going on in the rooms. A lot of hotel rooms got trashed by locals. Normally they make exceptions for families and such that are fumigating or remodeling. But a couple, especially a young couple would get shooed away.
I live on an interstate as well and they want to keep rooms available for travelers. Most hotels here require reservations during Summer months.

7. Constract an eleberate display of ropes in your frount yard and yell to people that your a spider person as they walk past.
6. go to an ice cream shop, ask for a taste of a bunch of different flavours then leave without buying anything
5. have a picnic with friends in an elevator
4. hire a jumping castle
3. put up signs for a garage sale with a random address on it

Urban kayaking, the three foot bungee, stand outside of a liquor store and ask for money for condoms, Random hugs(one of my favorites), count blue cars(90’s reference), go to your local governement buliding and yell repeatedly “We’re Not Going To Protest!”.

All stuff I’d like to do I think, I’d particularly love to see live theater and opera etc… Love that kind of stuff in theory, but not financially, lol.
MY more realistic list would probably be as follows:
1. Go to the beach or pool with family. I live in Florida so this one is a given for us at least 75% of the year. I think the only month I have NOT been swimming is January or February, and even that’s possible sometimes.
2. Do some research on your area and find out if there are any cultural events- either one time deals or recurring events. My town has a music in the park night every Thursday which is pretty nice. Musicians from all over come and gather in groups to just jam.
3. Start up a game night with friends. My husband and I and 2 other couples have a rotating schedule where we get together at each others houses for dinner and games- either board and card games or good old pen and paper role playing games like D&D or Shadowrun.
4. Go to the library. Other than the obvious chance to check out books to read (one of my favorite pastimes) there is also the chance of finding or starting a book club, some libraries have events during the weekends too.
5. Volunteer somewhere. Go to a children’s ward in a hospital and read stories, visit a retirement home and sit and talk with someone who’s lonely, volunteer at a pet shelter to walk dogs or cuddle cats (yes, I looked into my local shelter and there is a position specifically for cat cuddlers. Makes them more content and easily adopted), volunteer at a soup kitchen. Anything. You’ll serve two purposes- you’ll do something good, and you might make a new friend. (I volunteer at a free clinic and I love the people that I work with)
6. Have a good old sleep over. Invite friends, pop some popcorn, beak out the old favorite movies, paint each others nails or do spa treatments (if you’re women)pour some wine or fruity drinks and just have fun with friends. This can be especially cost efficient if everyone contributes something.
7. Have a pot luck picnic. Everyone meets at a park and brings a dish to share. Great family activity- you can bring frisbees, a foot ball, a kite anything really.
8. Go yard saling or to a flea market. Get 5 or 10 dollars in ones and change and go see what treasures you can find. This can be a blast with a friend, you can make it a competition to see who winds up with the best deals.
9. Take a walk. Either in your neighborhood or somewhere more peaceful if need be. Put on some good shoes, pack some trail mix and plenty of water and blaze a trail. Exercise is good for you, and exploring is fun.
10. Visit another town that you don’t usually go to. It could be the next town over, just somewhere different that you can check out and see what you find. I notice I spend very little time outside of my county, and there are some neat places near by. Alternately- look online for day trip suggestions in your area.
There, my list of things to do on a weekend. Unfortunately the reality falls more towards housework and loafing, but I am a stay at home mom who home schools. I need all the rest I can get, lol!

I didnt see one of my favorite things-go to walmart and move things, race karts, play soccer (and/or tag and football) see how far you can get through the store on a bike and try on random clothing. Walmart doesnt like me

heavenlymayday, I love every one of your suggestions. My friends and I sometimes do the sleepover thing, which is the best fun you can have. But you have to have bacon, eggs and pancakes in the morning. Next time, I will have a drink and a Tim Tam (Aussies will get it) just for you.

hey I agree with Jerry, there’s not really anything like what you mentioned too near by, as I live on an island, and it’s about an hour drive to do anything good, as for defesive driving, it’s called Seattle and Tacoma.
This unfortunately is one list is not feaseable. But not bad if you have an extra grand laying around

Yaurt, I did rent a cop one time. I was flush with a scratch off ticket winnings and as a joke a friend said i should hire a bodygaurd. I called a local security company and hired a gaurd. It was strange to say the least. I paid 350 dollars to have some guy come over and gaurd my front door. then I got worried about him being bored so I asked if he wanted to come in and watch tv. so he did. wierd way to spend half of my winnings. I really enjoy wasting money

4.set up display stall somewhere explaining to people the dangers of display stalls
3.request a busker to play very annoying songs for a very long time offering him/her a reasonable sum of money.needless to say walk off.if it pleases you may return an hour or so later and demand to know why they have stopped playing.however if they still are playing give them a big thumbs up and some extra money

There are a million and one things to do in town on a wekend, you don’t need to spend loads of money and travel miles. Why not just go into the nearest town and see whats on?

Taija: Theatre in the US mind is going to the movies. I’ve been to a few shows (performances) but it just wasn’t my thing. I feel asleep at the last one, Way to relaxing/boring, my girl liked it. And in the end isn’t that the only reason most american men go to these shows?

here is my list of a few things to do on a weekend:
1. read a book
2. learn a card trick
3. try out a new recipe
4. go ice skating
5. write a letter
6. learn how to do a cartwheel and a split
7. go for a long drive and end up finding a new favorite nature spot
8. go to work when no one else is there
9. call up a friend, family
10. read Wikipedia

Things to do when the budget is tight:
1. Bake a cake or invent a new recipe with what you have in your kitchen cupboards.
2. Have a home spa – bubble bath, candles, get someone yummy to give you a massage…. you get the idea!
3. Paint a picture – even if you aren’t an artist.
4. Visit a nursery/garden centre
5. Play board games with friends or family
6. If its sport you are after – check your local school, university, rugby or football club for match/game schedules.
7. Rearrange ornaments and pictures around your house – you’ll be amazed at the difference!
And now Im stumped for another three – Jfrater, you have my UTMOST respect at being able to churn these lists out so often and so well!

1. buy two cheap tickets to a small theathre/cabaret/dance show and don’t ask anyone to come along, ether meet someone on the day and take him/her along, or call someone last minute, or go on your own if everything else fails.
1. Have a james bond drink alone in an expensive hotel lobby.
3. have a breakfast at the cheapest place you can possibly find.

4. roadtrip, anywhere really, just a roadtrip.
5. invite your 5-8 most interesting friends for a dinner
6. put an add up ‘flatmate wanted’ and have randoms come and have a look at a ’spare room’. Make it a night, have all flatmates at home and open a bottle of wine to check out the ‘potenital new flatmate’.
7. read a book
8. go out and take photos, pick a theme, like ‘boring looking people’ or ‘men wearing hats’ or ‘old lady’s who’s hairdie kina turned out purple rather then white’ anything really
9. work and make some extra cash that you can do anything of the more fancy options in other various lists on this page
10. have great sex

I like this. I can’t help but think of Breakfast at Tiffany’s when Holly and Paul spend the day doing things they’ve never done before.
I wonder what my list would include… ideas could include;
10. For the girls- play “If I had £1000″ with a friend… basically you go to a shopping store and look at clothes, and talk about what Daddy is going to buy you for your birthday, and how Mummy has booked the flight to the villa for next weekend. Acting very upper class lets you get away with trying on all the expensive dresses!
9. Go to a museum, or walk around your town/city and visit every shop you’ve never been into before. Bric a brac and charity shops are always good to see what you can find.
8. Invite all your friends over for a carpet picnic. Lay out a blanket in your living room and then chill. We did this one weekend when our planned picnic at the Park was rained off.
7. Go and sit in court and watch a trial. All cases (apart from junior court trials) are open to the public in the UK (I don’t know about anywhere else, sorry!) and you can see some very interesting things. JUST DON’T SPEAK because then you get arrested for contempt of court
6. Go for a mystery ride. Get in a car with a load of friends and get them to take it in turns to say “right” or “left” at every junction you get to. Make sure you take a map though, because after an hour or two you can find yourself in the middle of nowhere. It’s fun, because you never know where you’ll arrive.
5. Ride the bus or train to the end of the line. Same idea as before, but while you’re doing it play the bluetooth game. This involves searching for bluetooth, and then matching each name with a character in your carriage. Can be interested.
4. Go into the town/city centre with a sign saying “free hugs!”. It’s pretty easy to guess what happens next, just give free hugs all day. Can really cheer up people’s day, and you can meet some nice people. Just keep away from the weirdos…
3. Drive to the seaside to eat fish and chips whilst walking on the sand, and then drive back again. If it’s raining, go swimming in the sea. Play in the arcades and buy donuts to eat on the pier.
2. Collect coppers (nickels) over a span of a few months. Then when you walk in the park drop a few whereever you go. I know a lot of little kids that get very excited when finding coins. Or, collect coppers and bore a hole in the centre of each one. String them onto a thick elastic and make a bracelet.
1. Go shopping in your pyjamas. It’s great when everyone else that’s with you is in normal clothes, you have perfect hair and make up, and no-one you’re with comments upon your interesting attire…

well ive read pretty much all possible suggestions for a activity for my weekend but nothing took my fancy really i need a proper cool thing to do this weekend im going away friday afternoon til monday morning with no idea where me n my partner are gonna go its our anniversary its only our first year (aww) but we want something awesome to do … we had an idea of doing the whole camping thing … BUT WHERE TOI PITCH OUR TENT?

Hmmm…My cool 10 things would be:
1. Edge my garden
2. Weed my garden
3. Mulch my garden
4. Plant some annuals in my garden
5. Prune my roses
6. Smell the peonies
7. See if my toad is living in his toad house
8. Put some compost on my tomatoes
9. Put a hummingbird feeder in my garden
10. Fill the bird feeder in my garden

now dont do this every weekend, but its fun to do sometimes

for the younger kids out there my kids play this all the time
find 2 trees any where you can, get a big stick,and a soft ball. play 2 base base ball if you can most people on a team = 3

2.Visit my old boxing teacher.
3.Go visit different places.
4.Go to a bard.
