[WARNING: Contains scenes of an extremely disturbing and violent nature] In our first year of existence, we wrote a list of the most disturbing 15 movies – nearly two years later we are now presenting the long awaited sequel! This list includes fewer mainstream movies but it is certain that the majority of them are worse than those on our first list. For those who might wish to bemoan the absence of their favorite disturbing movie, please check the original list in case you find it there.
In this film, Mei is a doctor who has performed a lage number of illegal abortions in the past. She looks incredibly young for her age – her secret: home-made dumplings from a special recipe of – you guessed it – fetuses. A neglected wife of an executive is looking for youth and is willing to pay any price for the dumplings. The ingredients of the dumplings are rare, but then a mother with her pregnant daughter shows up… Hopefully you read this blurb before the clip – it makes all the difference.
This award winning film is most notable for its extreme gore. Four months after losing her husband in a car accident, Sarah (Paradis), a pregnant woman, is visited on Christmas Eve by a mysterious woman (Dalle) who wants Sarah’s child for herself by any means necessary. goes to bed and the visitor arrives in the bedroom, awakening Sarah with scissors puncturing her navel. Sarah fights the visitor off and locks herself in the bathroom, where the visitor tries to gain entry. This is interrupted several times by the arrival of Sarah’s employer, mother, and the police, all of whom are killed by the visitor, except Sarah’s mother, whom Sarah accidentally kills, believing her to be the visitor before getting a good look. The story plays out with the visitor finally delivering Sarah’s baby with a pair of scissors in a brutal variation on Caesarian Section.
WARNING: if you are eating, don’t watch the clip above. Pink Flamingos is a 1972 American transgressive comedy directed by John Waters. When the film was initially released in 1972, it caused a huge degree of controversy and eventually became one of the most notorious cult films ever made. It is one of John Waters’ most famous or downright notorious films due to some shocking scenes and the wide range of perverse, taboo acts performed in the film, such as consumption of animal feces. IMDB has this to say on the plot: Sleaze queen Divine lives in a caravan with her mad hippie son Crackers and her 250-pound mother Mama Edie, trying to rest quietly on their laurels as ‘the filthiest people alive’. But competition is brewing in the form of Connie and Raymond Marble, who sell heroin to schoolchildren and kidnap and impregnate female hitchhikers, selling the babies to lesbian couples. Finally, they challenge Divine directly, and battle commences…
It may be called Sweet Movie, but it is anything but! This is the intercut story of two women: a nearly-mute beauty queen who descends into withdrawal and madness, and another who captains a ship laden with candy and sugar, luring men and boys aboard for sex, death, and revolutionary talk. The beauty queen passes from a wealthy husband whose honeymoon delight is to urinate on her, to a muscular keeper who punches her, stows her in a suitcase, and ships her to Paris, to a lip-synching rock idol with whom she has a love spasm, to an Austrian commune complete with a banquet of vomit, urine, feces, chopped dildos, and wet nurses.
Cutting Moments is the title of a highly acclaimed, highly controversial short feature from 1999 directed by Douglas Buck. Not only is it gory, it was also heart-wrenching and painful to watch. Briefly, the synopsis is: in the center of a monotonous suburban existence, Sarah lives silently and in subservience to her icy husband Patrick. They have been together far too long, and Patrick’s affections for his wife have all but vanished. Instead, his sexual urges are tempting him to lust after their own son. Realizing how far gone her husband is, Sarah undertakes drastic, shockingly sickening measures to salvage some sense of her life and purge her years of festering resentment
The film is a graphic depiction of the war atrocities committed by the Japanese at Unit 731, the secret biological weapons experimentation unit of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. The film details the various cruel medical experiments Unit 731 inflicted upon the Chinese and Soviet prisoners at the tail-end of the war. Because of its graphic content, the film has suffered mass controversy with censors all over the world. It was originally banned in Australia and caused public outcry in Japan to such an extent that director T.F. Mou even received threats on his life. The film is extremely controversial for its use of what Mou claims to be actual autopsy footage of a young boy and also for a scene in which two cats are thrown into a room to be eaten alive by hundreds of frenzied rats (the rats are later set ablaze).
Flower of Flesh and Blood is said to be based on a snuff film sent to the director Hideshi Hino by a crazed fan. In it, a man dressed as a samurai drugs a woman and proceeds to cut her apart, and finally adds her body parts to an extensive collection. The snuff film rumour has been shown to be a contemporary legend; the film was in fact based on a manga (by Hideshi Hino himself, no less) about a florist who kills women and uses their dismembered parts as the seed of his beautiful flower arrangements. After viewing a portion of this film, actor Charlie Sheen was convinced the murder depicted was genuine and contacted the MPAA, who then contacted the FBI. FBI agent Dan Codling informed them that the FBI and the Japanese authorities were already investigating the film makers, who were forced to prove that the special effects were indeed fake. This is the second film is what is known as the Guinea Pig films.
The gruesome tapestry of psychological manifestations of a nineteen year old bulimic runaway stripper – turned prostitute named Angela Aberdeen; as she descends into a hellish pit of Satanic nightmares and hallucinations. True to its name, this film contains no shortage of actual vomiting mixed in with a healthy dose of slaughter. To its credit, the title does not lie. The film contains scenes of extreme violence like eyeballs being gouged out mixed in with scenes of self inflicted vomiting. All of which is intercut with a home movie of a little girl, presumably one of the girls in the film (or representing all of the girls in the film for that matter) during a once happier time in her life and their ultimate loss of innocence. Murder Set Pieces is a 2004 American slasher film which looks into the life of a wealthy German serial killer. The primary plot line for Murder-Set-Pieces follows a burly neo-Nazi photographer who prowls the streets of Sin City with an affinity for dead whores. Under the guise of a professional photographer, he lures prostitutes from the streets and photographs them. This materializes into an eventual bloodbath, complete with rape and torture. Murder-Set-Pieces has Chainsaws, straight razors, putrefied skulls, hot chicks, masses of nudity, bloody FX work by Toe Tag, and a severed head blowjob. Oh – and we shouldn’t forget to mention some crazy stuff involving blood, a straight razor, an infant and a dead mother. [Source - NFSW]
August Underground’s Mordum is an independent exploitation film released by the Pittsburgh-based film production/special effects/design company Toetag Pictures in 2003; like its predecessor, Mordum is a simulated snuff film, which includes graphic depictions of sexual deviancy (including necrophilia and pedophilia) and murder (including a fleeting depiction of infanticide). The film depicts a dysfunctional love triangle of sorts between the volatile lead from the original August Underground (portrayed by Toetag founder Fred Vogel), his maniacal girlfriend and partner-in-crime Crusty (Christie Whiles), and Crusty’s animalistic brother, appropriately dubbed Maggot (Michael Schneider). As Maggot’s mental facilities decline and competition with Vogel’s character for the affections of Crusty mounts, tensions simmer before coming to full boil at Mordum’s climax: Maggot manages to wrestle Vogel’s knife out of his hands and then proceeds to… Well – I don’t want to spoil the ending – so go see it.

June 10th, 2009 at 1:42 am
The original Japanese Ring movie and Delicatessen are pretty disturbing…
June 10th, 2009 at 1:44 am
WOW! Great list! Actually feel sick. Excellent! Love movies like this, gotta have balls to make them and balls to watch them!
)
June 10th, 2009 at 1:45 am
Gili is pretty damn disturbing…
June 10th, 2009 at 1:51 am
i wanna watch these movies!
June 10th, 2009 at 1:51 am
ok, i can’t continue reading. i’m so grossed out!
June 10th, 2009 at 1:52 am
yeah!- jamie, thanks for having the “guts” to post the sequel list
June 10th, 2009 at 2:11 am
Super Mario Bros., most disturbing thing I have ever seen.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:14 am
I know that they’re not nearly as bad as Mordum – although the Christmas scence is messed up – but I think that the other AU movies could definitely be included here.
And by the way, Sweet Movie is in both lists
June 10th, 2009 at 2:17 am
I have to say Taxidermia is a pretty good disturbing film… its got everything from bizarre scene where a man has his way with a very dead animal, to some hungry cats getting their own way with a very very obese man, to the final scene where a guy somehow manages to taxiderm (?) his own body, before slicing off his own head.
Lots of closeups add to the atmosphere… theres no whisking behind a curtain here. Might not quite compete with these films, but worth seeing.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:19 am
I think I will call this list “Another 10 movies i will NOT be adding to my Netflix Queue”.
Have known the existence of about half of these flicks.
Am going on a googly about toe tag prod.
And my guinea pig avatar wishes to be held unassociated to the “Flowers” series.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:28 am
Oh yeah inside was the first movie to make me turn the other way, especially during that scene. Automation Transfusion should be up here, anyone who has seen it would agree.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:36 am
and i must say the here-featured clip of “cutting moments” literally made me look away from the screen, multiple times, and then made me click over to youtube to see if the rest of the film was posted (it’s not) because i wanted to know the motivations in full of the female character.
shivvvver. ick! but an interesting list.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:38 am
@ just passing: oh yes, Visitor Q would deserve to be on this list but I suppose the author decided to overlook Takashi Miike in this list since there were two of his movies in the previous one. BTW I liked this list but I’m not sure I’m going to watch any of these films… They sound way too violent even for me, and I’ve enjoyed stuff like Ichi The Killer, Begotten and Nekromantik in the past. Suppose I’m just not into torture *that* much.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:43 am
Yeah, Taxidermia is pretty damn disturbing, too. I couldnt watch all of it…
June 10th, 2009 at 3:01 am
can’t believe whoever posted this list actually managed to watch all of those stuff…
and wow there’s actually a hong kong film in this
June 10th, 2009 at 3:13 am
Holy hell, this is a pretty messed up list. The clip from Cutting Moments is going to stay with me for a long time.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:33 am
The most disturbing movie i ever watched was ‘Requiem for a dream’
June 10th, 2009 at 3:42 am
Sweet Movie is on both lists.
I’ve heard Teeth is pretty disturbing, though as to whether it can compete…
What about Eraserhead? THAT is a weird movie.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:43 am
by the way, Sthe sweet movie is on both lists
June 10th, 2009 at 3:50 am
Ew! There is nothing I need to see here!
June 10th, 2009 at 4:10 am
i watched 9 and ten and that was it for me. yuck.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:28 am
hardcore!!
June 10th, 2009 at 4:35 am
I think you need to get out more, Jamie. Oh, you just got back from the mountains.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:41 am
Perverse movies for perverts. If you derive pleasure from this garbage, there is something seriously wrong with you.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:47 am
What is the appeal of these movies? Requiem for a Dream is disturbing, but it proves a sociological point. What exactly is the aesthetic value or point of these movies? Is it just to “gross” people out, to push the envelope of human decency?
June 10th, 2009 at 4:55 am
I couldn’t even watch ANY of these clips, their descriptions were enough to give me the heebee geebee’s
The most disturbing movie i have ever seen was High Tension.
“Two college friends, Marie and Alexa, encounter loads of trouble (and blood) while on vacation at Alexa’s parents’ country home when a mysterious killer invades their quiet getaway”
i watched it a few years ago, and I think I still have nightmares about it!!
June 10th, 2009 at 4:56 am
25 FlockO’Seagulls : Maybe, but I’m sure that most people that know me would beg to differ.
26 Cassia : Stimulation. The same way others might get the pulse racing by watching James Bond – of which I am also a huge fan – some get their kicks from watching “taboos” on tape.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:04 am
Even though she makes tastie treats from dead babies you have to agree, the dumplings ladies hot!
June 10th, 2009 at 5:05 am
Reading the descriptions was enough for me. I’m with deeeziner…these will not be making their way onto my Netflix queue.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:08 am
I assume that Salo was on the original list?
June 10th, 2009 at 5:11 am
I have heard of a movie called Squirmfest. Never been able to find any sits but I heard it is the worst of the worst.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:27 am
one should appreciate this kind of movies and the minds behind it, their imagination must be completely wild to be able to make one. it’ so impressive. one should see beauty in all things.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:37 am
I’ve seen Dumplings – it was part of a trio of horror movies – the other two were directed by Takashi Miike and Chan Wook Park.
I didn’t find the depiction of the fetuses in the movie to be that disturbing, you could pretty much tell it was a rubber doll. It was more the concept of what she was doing.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:44 am
wowee! I thought I had a strong stomach but I seriously don’t think I could watch any of these films… Anything involving faeces makes me gag. I would have had a brilliant reaction to the 2 girls 1 cup video- the horrors!!!
June 10th, 2009 at 5:45 am
Whoa Mama.
Back to Disney.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:50 am
what about the “Faces of Death” movies, thats some crazy stuff
June 10th, 2009 at 5:53 am
NO redeeming qualities. John Waters was just trying to shock and moved on from there but let’s face it – there’s no good reason for any of those other movies. Except to keep psychiatrists busy.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:55 am
33 candy : Now, I advocate the value of these movies, but seeing beauty in them? That may be taking it a bit far. Have you seen AU Mordum? If not, you should really watch the whole thing, it’ll blow your mind. I would call the minds behind it brilliant, but then again, I call Hitler brilliant, so maybe I manage to overlook some moral and ethical issues occasionally. Still, all the AU’s are rather impressive creations. I prefer Mordum, but Penance wasn’t all that bad.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:59 am
John Waters is a Baltimore icon. You’re welcome, America.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- the original Last House on the Left should be here. And maybe American History X. I watched Murder-Set-Pieces and kind of laughed all the way through. Maybe I’m disturbed…
June 10th, 2009 at 6:06 am
I understand the thrill of watching movies like these, however, I won’t be one of the spectators. Not even the clips.
Technical merit and artistic expression aside, I really don’t want to fill my mind with such images. Once seen, one can’t “unsee”. I’d rather not pollute my mind and perhaps become inured to such.
Look how far directors have to go to truly shock audiences these days. No wonder we laugh and shake our head at the stories of women fainting during the silent film, Phantom of the Opera. How quaint! we chuckle, while watching babies being blown apart by bombs (and that’s just the evening news).
Anyway, more power to ya if this is what you like. Good list, as well.
June 10th, 2009 at 6:09 am
Wow…Disney followed by disturbing movies… :O
I had the misfortune of coming across Pink Flamingos once. All I can say is….ewwwwww!
I am happy to say that I haven’t seen the rest of these and never will. NOT my cup of tea. I read the bio’s below each one and won’t be viewing the clips. The wording was enough.
June 10th, 2009 at 6:10 am
im always a fan of disturbing movies, violent at gore… i love this list.. i think im gonna watch the whole movies..
June 10th, 2009 at 6:11 am
me, my cup of tea!
June 10th, 2009 at 6:12 am
wow listverse is getting better and better every day! I especially love JFrater’s articles!
June 10th, 2009 at 6:14 am
cannibal holocaust ought to be on there…
June 10th, 2009 at 6:25 am
Haven’t seen any of these yet. There’s a Spanish movie about an autopsy where people are sliced up and sawn back together. Later when the autopsy guy is alone, he does necrophilia to a woman then takes some of the organs and feeds the dog at home and makes himself a meal.
Terrible quality movie, also not much of a plot, just gore. Somewhere along the “Flowers” I’d guess.
After seeing some of such movies, can’t say any of them are really “worth” watching. Waste of time pretty much.
June 10th, 2009 at 6:30 am
I got sent a few CDs that had a whole bunch of these films on it. Will deifnitely have to catch the ones that aren’t, particularly A L’interieur. I must applaud you for making it seem like AU Mordum has any discernable plot, well done. =P
Great list.
June 10th, 2009 at 6:36 am
Some disturbing side of me wants to watch these movies… and now I have a list that tells me to do it… must… watch… disturbed… movies… BAHAHAHAHAHA…
It’s okay, i’m sane.
June 10th, 2009 at 6:45 am
I almost threw up thinking about some of that shit haha
June 10th, 2009 at 6:45 am
No Cannibal Holocaust?
June 10th, 2009 at 6:55 am
36 frushka–Whoa Mama.
Back to Disney.
Hahahahahahahahaaaaa! Reminds me of the saying: Beware of what you wish for.
What a great and cool ironic turn of events Jamie!!!
June 10th, 2009 at 6:58 am
Meh… Sweet Movie is in both lists
June 10th, 2009 at 6:59 am
@flgh
Cannibal Holocaust is in the first list
http://listverse.com/2007/11/07/top-15-most-disturbing-movies/
June 10th, 2009 at 7:02 am
39 Mark–”, but then again, I call Hitler brilliant”
Dammit dude you just beg to be commented upon don’t you.:)
June 10th, 2009 at 7:19 am
I have nauseas after watching number 6, pretty disturbing!!
June 10th, 2009 at 7:26 am
i think Cannibal Holocaust is on the first list…
i can’t say that i actually ‘enjoy’ these kinds of movies…but i am a bit desensitized to gore (growing up on a farm & seeing animal carcasses in a smoke house & your family dogs eating dirt because it’s saturated with the blood of a half-dozen pigs will do that to you)
i am attracted to these films for their ’shock value’, their ability to make me squirm, and the recognition of the work, effort, creativity, and bizarre thoughts that are necessary to pull off the films.
oh-and for those of you who found “Requiem for a Dream” disturbing, i certainly hope it’s due to the psychological deterioration of the characters because of their drug use…
and not the double-dong scene at the end. i’ve seen far more offensive, degrading porn than that.
rtr
June 10th, 2009 at 7:37 am
Mark, I agree with you about Hitler. Not so much the movies. I’ll stick with Harry Potter. {Voldemort) was a great man who did terrible things. Yes, I can handle that.
June 10th, 2009 at 7:40 am
I WAS hungry before I clicked on this page… I don’t think I’ll be able to eat for a week now. “Cutting Moments” alone makes me want to vomit. Impressive (albeit nauseating) list, jfrater.
June 10th, 2009 at 7:42 am
Disturbing movies are not always trash.
In a less “gory” but truer and current context, “Redacted” from Brian De Palma is a truly disturbing but great film.
June 10th, 2009 at 7:46 am
Pink Flamingos was nasty!!! I couldn’t watch Cutting Moments without looking away a few times. These were really disturbing films but I would actually like to see them. Haha
June 10th, 2009 at 7:50 am
John Waters is ace. You either love his films or hate him, and Pink Flamingos was definitely his most disturbingly enjoyable film to date.
June 10th, 2009 at 7:56 am
“Guinea Pig” deserves an honorable mention.
June 10th, 2009 at 8:06 am
Sweet Movie was on this list and the first one. I’m just going to take that as a sign that it’s really, really disturbing. So I shall stay away.
June 10th, 2009 at 8:38 am
19 Archie: Teeth wasn’t all that bad, and it has a lot of wry funny moments, though if you don’t want to see a severed penis ever 15 minutes, its not the film for you!
Audition is the most gruesome movie I’ve ever seen, so I don’t know if I’m up for watching any of these. Cutting Moments looks sort of horrifically tempting though…
June 10th, 2009 at 8:53 am
Teeth sounds like the scariest movie ever just because there is a girl who can bite off your wang with her cooch. Conceptually that is far more scary than any other thing on this list
June 10th, 2009 at 8:53 am
These are not exactly my personal movie fare. That’s not to say I dislike all violence or tension in movies, I like it when it serves the plot, is done with some kind of accuracy, and is performed by capable actors in a movie written by capable screenwriters.
None of these fit that set of criteria.
They are disturbing. Extremely so. So, JF, you were successful in fulfilling the lists title and intro.
I think I’ll go deposit this mornings breakfast in the porcelain throne now.
June 10th, 2009 at 9:05 am
Nice list – a lot better than we have had lately.
Thanks JF.
June 10th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Flowers of Flesh and Blood is messed up, but the first Guinea Pig film “The Devil’s Experiment” takes the cake in terms of extreme cinema.
June 10th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Jfrater, you must have a wealth of knowledge about pretty much everything at your disposal. How else can one manage to make such diverse and interesting lists? Research is out of the question….where would you start or find the time?
June 10th, 2009 at 9:16 am
Can’t wait to download all of these…
June 10th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Good list. Some of these I have never heard of. I guess you could say that scene from Cutting Moments brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “wipe that smile off your face”.
June 10th, 2009 at 9:47 am
The Japanese movie Audition is hands down creepy. It begins nicely enough, but the final 45 minutes are just horrifying!!
June 10th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Oh dear, the only one I’ve seen (and have) is Dumplings, so I think I’ll have to follow that up with some on this list.
June 10th, 2009 at 9:54 am
What’s wrong with some of you people?!
Requiem For A Dream?
American History X?
They aren’t disturbing films at all. Watch Taxidermia or the first 30 minutes of Irreversible to see real disturbia!
June 10th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Missing from both lists.
Freaks

June 10th, 2009 at 10:23 am
Anyone can use their morbid imagination to make garbage movies.
Movies involving dead babies and pedophilia? No thank you. That’s not talent – that’s disturbed people creating movies to satisfy their disturbed minds. Anyone who seeks these movies out are disgusting.
People can try to justify this crap all they want…but these movies are not intelligent or interesting. They’re full of shit, vomit, blood, guts, etc. Very intriguing.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:28 am
Well, what can I say? – watching the LV is like watching bingo – you never know what will appear next. While I’m very open minded (or at least I want to be), I was under no illusion that the clips would disturb me, so I haven’t watched ‘em.
Back in the days, I was pretty numb towards horror. I’ve seen a few of the classics such as Cronenberg’s Videodrome (1983), and Dead Ringers (1988) etc – and have lately aquired El Topo and The Holy Mountain. These days I have to be careful; ever since something happened which made me a helluva lot more sensitive.
Movies such as these HAVE to be more extreme than ever – it’s just the natural progression. What was seen as extreme in the 1960’s ‘could’ be seen as quite mildly shocking today, and fans of this genre demand to be disturbed; or the shows over. Certainly, a demand for high-octane gore is becoming more mainstream in areas such as the video games industry. But where can they go from here? How much more extreme can you get before fans say ‘been there – see it already’?
On a related note, should lists such as this come with some kind of warning? My 4 year-old may know I like the LV and be caught out by this one. ?? Then again, ‘18′ logos usually attract kids like a magnet! Hmmm.
67: segues – you have already won the battle; you ARE victorious. Everything else is the past.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:32 am
I guess it’s all about what a person considers to be disturbing.
I found most of these clips disgusting, but the one that really hit was Cutting Moments.
For me, the loss of love and desperate measures to retrieve it, especially through violent or self-destructive means, are the hardest hitting. But, that comes from personal experience.
Maybe some people find American History X disturbing because of experiences with racism or jail time.
Some individuals may experience discomfort with Requiem for a Dream because of experiences echoing those in the film.
All I’m saying is that it’s a matter of perspective.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:53 am
The french film “Martyrs” is pretty disturbing too.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:57 am
I still haven’t watched the clips, but that’s not why I return to LV everyday.
It’s because no where else am I going to see comments that use the phrase ‘double dong.’ Just can’t get that anywhere else – unless you’re on a porn site, yes, that IS what a friend told me.
Thanks again rtr, I expect nothing less from you friend.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:57 am
What about Two Girls and One Cup? Just kidding…sort of. But really, real life is stranger than fiction. Everytime I see a disturbing movie I always think there’s far more disturbing people asnd events occuring virtually every day than what’s in this movie.
June 10th, 2009 at 11:11 am
A matter of perspective?! She ate dog poo!
June 10th, 2009 at 11:28 am
Would the novel mentioned in #4 be ‘Goth: A Novel of Horror’? If not they’re very similar. The book is quite disturbing, but I rather like it.
June 10th, 2009 at 11:52 am
Great list. Urgh.
Cutting Moments is the one that makes me shudder the most.
I think there should be a bonus with The Broken Movie by Peter Christopherson, though.
June 10th, 2009 at 11:54 am
just so you know, the trilogy of movies containing the ‘dumplings’ film is actually called ‘three extremes’, as perhaps you may have noticed on the youtube clip.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
‘Dumplings’ was pretty cool because it didn’t resort to gore or violence to really disturb the viewer. I feel like that takes some good writing. Haven’t seen the others though.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Callie19 (40): there was really only one scene in American History X which disturbed me – the curb scene (I am sure you know what I am talking about).
I also feel I ought to point out to everyone that these are not movies I would generally watch – I prefer horror to be psychological – not gory
June 10th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
82 frogmanster: A matter of perspective?! She ate dog poo!
The artistic interpretation of which is a matter of perspective.
Btw, re AU’s Mordum – dang…my secret is out…
June 10th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
i really enjoyed this list! i seen all the movies listed too heehee. they’re all are just trife-nasty. i’d really suggest cutting moments and inside if you like a little story with your gore.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
37 jake – I’ve seen all the Faces of Death movies. Those are interesting. The only thing that bothered me was the people in the restaurant hitting the little monkey in the head before they ate its brains. Poor little monkey!
I’m at work right now so can’t play these clips. I’ll watch when I get home. The worst (most disturbing movie) I’ve seen so far is “Audition” (I think it was on the first list, wasn’t it?). That was hard to watch at the end but I can watch almost anything.
“Cannibal Holocaust” is on my Netflix list. I love freaky stuff.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
I agree with goldfishgirl, “Martyrs” was excellent. It had everything a disturbing movie could want.
Ah, the Guinea Pig series…Flower of Flesh and Blood is a great movie, Mermaid in a Manhole is more disturbing to me though due to multi-coloured projectile pus.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
I’m gonna watch all of them.
:]
June 10th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
Sweet movie is on both lists. original and sequel list
June 10th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
This seems like a good place to pose this question.
Has anyone seen Canzo Emperean? I have seen clips on youtube but am unable to find the movie anywhere. It looks pretty messed up.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Lifeschool: that is what the warning in bold at the top of the list is for
And all of these clips are available on youtube which kids are more likely to be looking at than here I suspect
June 10th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Pink Flamingos was awesome. None of these movies were disturbing at all o.O
June 10th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Oh – incidentally everyone – there is some new comment functionality – if you click a users nickname in the comments it takes you to the comment box with a reference back to the comment.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
@shatunovaddict (97): I shudder to think what you might find disturbing then
June 10th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
@IndigoMoth (10): I did consider including Taxidermia – if I realized that I had repeated “Sweet Movie” it would probably have been used instead.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
@Ronna (76): Freaks is on this list in position 5
June 10th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
98 jfrater
new comment functionality
very cool (did it work?)
June 10th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
what did i do wrong?
June 10th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
segues (67):
I completely agree. For the life of me I cannot find the value in something whose sole purpose is shock and gore. What´s the point?
It´s like when I watched the movie HOSTEL. I got through it only thanks to an obstinate refusal to turn the darn thing off just so i could understand what all the hype was about. Those are 2 hours I´ll never get back.
And if a movie like that wasnt even mentioned on this list, then I think I´ll thank the Websense gods who blocked these at work.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
@jfrater (98):
i’m a dumb ass
June 10th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Tex: heh at least you go there in the end
June 10th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
@jfrater (98): This is soooooo cool! Wonderful to use since I’m lazy like that. Thanks!
June 10th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
@blogball (72):
Blogball, what an absolutely brilliant comment.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
@blogball (108):
Thanks I knew you would like it.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
@jfrater (98):
what an excellent little timesaver!! Thanks jamie and WordPress!!
June 10th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
@deeeziner (110):
Ohhh!! and the little blue # in parentheses! Yayy!
June 10th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
Seriously (with my 4th grade humor aside)
Like deeeziner mentioned this is a neat little option and a great time saver.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
@blogball (108): My – aren’t we a font of humility
June 10th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Just watched Cutting Moments and all I have to say is, to the female actor open your mouth wider when you try to eat a jelly filled doghnut.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
If the list was up to me, I would also add Repo the Genetic Opera. That movie was so distrubing I had nightmares. Next time I see my friend who made me watch it with him, I am going to kick his ass.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Great list! I haven’t seen most of these films but I will. Remember folks; it’s just movies, not real life. It’s original, over the top art. It may not be your taste but people like me love this stuff.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
@joe mama (4): You owe me a new keyboard – too funny!
June 10th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Interesting… But what sign on novelties of the news?
June 10th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
I actually went through watched all of the clips against my better judgment, and found #3 to be the most disturbing…
Loved the list though!!
June 10th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
How about battle royale??? Anyone seen?
June 10th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
It makes me wonder about the people who made these movies. I don’t think I’d want to meet them in a dark alley. I also can’t bring myself to watch these clips. The descriptions and comments are enough.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
@Mark (39): and@deeeziner (55): An intelligent person can also be a horrible human being at the same time. Merriam Webster defines brilliant as: “distinguished by unusual mental keenness or alertness.” Calling Hitler brilliant does not mean he is admired, necessarily. It must have taken a certain amount of intelligence to take over a country, wage such a huge war, and also unleash so much evil on the world. He was certainly evil and disturbed, but unfortunately for all his victims, maybe he was not lacking in the area of intelligence.
The danger with underestimating evil is, it could happen again.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
@deeeziner (55): Holy craps! You can click on the comment to reply to it! Sweet! Anyway, I mean what Moonbeam aluded to in 122. I don’t like Hitler, but if you don’t think that what he did to take control of Germany in the first place was respectable, if not amazing, then maybe you need to read over it again. He turned a fledging democracy into one of the most totalitarian regimes ever, I think that requires a special person.
@Moonbeam (122): Exactly, to the letter, what I was trying to convey
June 10th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Thank you for turning me on to some new movies I have never heard of before.
June 10th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
Lovely list, I am going to watch them all very soon.
I would like to add to the people who find nothing of value in such movies that they only present a part of life that many people don’t really see. It might be fake, but it is more truthful that naught. There is no reason to be affected in any way by such things, unless you experience them yourself. ji ji ji
June 10th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
1:54 on #10 Dumplings was a magnificent sight
June 10th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
@Nicole Marie (125): …
Watch the AU trilogy, it may very well change your views…
June 10th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
@Moonbeam (121):
exactly whom would you not like to meet?
the directors?
the special effects crew?
the writers?
the actors, who do a damn good job, if it’s enough to seem realistic?
those who watch these films?
or those who actually act on their impulses due to a lack of human consciousness?
quire frankly, i prefer to see the films rather than meet anyone in the real world who would act out such atrocities…

ah, darling, puh-lease. i know you are ‘Possum Chaser’ on muchosucko.

June 10th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
I really don’t like this at all. There are many gore sights, I don’t come here to see lists like these. Its not really very interesting or funny or original or quirky – its just a few of the zillions of exploitation movies out there. This list is more like “Aw man gross! Oh geeze MORE gross stuff.” Maybe if you made a list of the 10 best gore-films, because I can see how that could of special interest.
June 10th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Good grief. They say art is in the eye of the beholder. Like I said, good grief.
June 10th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
I immediately thought of Eraserhead when I saw the name of this list, but upon further reflection, decided that Eraserhead isn’t nearly as fucked up as having sex with little kids, dead animals, dead kids, or little animals. It’s more straight-up eerie and strange. Speaking of which, I am going to go to Amazon and order it. Good list. Bad content(That goes without saying, anyone who really gets their rocks off on this shit should be, you know, SHOT), but good list. Always enjoy reading about bizarre and disturbing things. Makes me feel like my life is much more stable.
June 10th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
How about ‘The Cook, The Thief his Wife and Her Lover’ ? that was pretty bizarre
June 10th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
I wish I had the guts to see these films. I haven’t clicked on a single video…I’m scared I won’t be able to get them off my mind…*sigh* someday, somehow…
June 10th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
@ringtailroxy (128): I’ll just take this oppurtinity to point out that a group of less than half a dozen people fill pretty much all of those roles in the AU movies, so I can understand how someone could feel a bit uncomfortable being in the same room as. After watching Mordum I wondered if these guys were actually acting.
June 10th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
This is nasty, I only read the descriptions, that was enough for me.
June 10th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
I actually laughed when it was mentioned that cat-eating rats were set on fire. Did someone say, “Watching a live cat get eaten alive isn’t enough–LET’S SET THE RATS ON FIRE, TOO!?” At what point does it lose any deeper meaning?
It reminds me of pornography–on the one hand, you can have porn about pretty common subjects, but done well enough that it’s still very titillating. Or, you can have really low quality porn involving the craziest, most shocking acts imaginable. People still watch it because it draws its audience by shock value, not quality.
I haven’t seen any of these movies, but based on the clips (those which I dared to watch) it seemed they pretty much fell into the latter category.
June 10th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
By the way Jamie, the people that the movies are atributed to, are they meant to be the special effects people? Because Jerami Cruise did some good work in AU Mordum, but the person who really deserves the “credit” is Fred Vogel. He directed, edited and starred, that’s one screwed up mind for you.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
I haven’t watched many of these movies on this list but I have seen many many disturbing movies. I would have to say that although AUM is quite bloody and gory I’m surprised you wrestled a plot out of it! I found Men Under the Sun to be much more disturbing because it is slightly based upon real historical experiments. I watched the short film clip and found that hard to watch… I actually turned it off with the whole scissor thing. There are defiantly much more disturbing movies in AUM, some that you have mentioned and many others. Great list though
I’m always looking to expand my collection of “why in the hell would you buy something like that” category!
June 10th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
@merrychristmascharliemanson (132): When I think about disturbing movies I do include Eraserhead along with movies like Men Under the Sun and AUM. It has a certain quality about, and I really don’t know how to explain, but it actually made me sick to my stomach for some reason.
June 10th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
I’ve seen people throw up watching eraserhead.
June 10th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
I don’t know if this has already been mentioned, butFunny Games was probably the most disturbing film I have ever seen. This is coming from a person that is an avid horror/ all around gory film fan. What was so disturbing to me was a couple things, first the complete control the killers had over their victims bettng them that they woouldnt survive the night, and the fact by the end of the movie you realize that the entire neighborhood had suffered the same fate. No gore and every death scene happening offscreen did nothing to help the dread I felt from that movie.
I do recommend this movie, though. It’s amazingly well done, but just a little nightmare inducing
June 11th, 2009 at 12:02 am
@zri (142): The Austrian or the American version?
June 11th, 2009 at 12:35 am
I had only heard of Pink Flamingo and Cutting Moments. And I thought that Cutting Moments was really intense movie. That has nothing on any of the other films.
Too intense for me.
June 11th, 2009 at 2:19 am
Ken Park, El Topo, and Dear Zachery should be on the next list.
June 11th, 2009 at 2:24 am
I seen alot of these movies on these lists. I used to work at Hollywood Video awhile back and they used to have a cult classic section and it was apart of my job to see every movie they had so I could reccomend them to customers……also Meet the Feebles should probably end up on the next list along with Rikki Oh.
June 11th, 2009 at 2:26 am
Oh yeah and Trent Reznor’s “Broken” messed me up a little bit.
June 11th, 2009 at 3:23 am
@Umbrage (137):
I do agree, most of these movies are of your latter described category.
As for the “cat eating rats being burned” footage, do check out “Unit 731″. If no where else, go to Wiki. The amount of information that is described in that article will either compel you to research further, or be enough to clue you into the magnitude of suffering that occurred as a direct result of that large scale set of “experiments” conducted by the Japanese.
From what I understand the “Men Behind the Sun” listing is but one of a series.
June 11th, 2009 at 3:29 am
And to anyone out there who can comment on the delay of the “Poughkeepsie Tapes” becoming available on DVD, please post.
As a standard rated release, I cannot understand the repeated delay in availability through my netflix account.
I cannot imagine that this movie would be worse than ANY of the movies listed here, or mentioned in the comments area.
June 11th, 2009 at 3:52 am
Oh and a thank you to this list, if for no other reason, it has sent me back to Bloody Disgusting.com.
Although I realize this site is probably carries a light weight status on the genre, it does keep me rather up to date on the gore movies I WOULD like to add to my queue.
If this brands me as a light-weight, so be it.
June 11th, 2009 at 4:19 am
Martyrs
horrendously gruesome and totally excessive
definitely disturbing.
June 11th, 2009 at 4:25 am
Extreme movies. That’s what I liked most.
June 11th, 2009 at 4:46 am
Jamie 98 – once we’ve jumped back to read the original comment, how do we jump back back to where we jumped from to continue reading.
I want to watch these movies just about as much as I want to watch the movies on the Disney list, but for slightly different reasons. Come to think of it, maybe throwing up is pretty much the same no matter how it’s caused.
June 11th, 2009 at 4:47 am
How come that doesn’t work? Do I have to put it in brackets? (98)
June 11th, 2009 at 4:48 am
That didn’t work either.
June 11th, 2009 at 5:22 am
Not surprising most are violence against women, misogynist crap
June 11th, 2009 at 5:50 am
These films may be disturbing, but none of them sound particularly interesting…
Hey Carole, it sells!
June 11th, 2009 at 6:01 am
@deeeziner (148): Yes, the same guy directed one about the Rape of Nanjing as well, I know that much.
@Carole (156):
10. Violence? It’s a gross factor. Even if you would call that violence, I’m pretty sure males start as fetuses as well.
9. Yep, violence against women… and men of course, but why bother?
8. Violence? Meh, in part. But the true essence of the film is Divine, we don’t see the hitchikers too much.
7. You’ve got to be kidding me… There’s more violence towards men, by far.
6. Hehehe… doubt it
5. Yet again, indisctiminant killing. We see men, women, children and animals being killed. Misogynistic? I think not.
4. Violence against women yes. But not in an over expliotative way (sexual, no) so it hardly counts as misogynistic.
3. Don’t have time so I’ll skip over this and 2.
1. HAH! Misogynistic?! More like plain fucked up!
June 11th, 2009 at 6:10 am
hahah…. that @nd one aint actually disturbing but funny instead… esp on that stabbing ur uncle part.. :p
June 11th, 2009 at 6:12 am
This is an incredibly interesting list even though it’s disgusting and and stomach turner.
It does make me question the mental health of people who create such demented acts up, in their minds, than go on to shamelessly record those thoughts for the world to see
June 11th, 2009 at 6:25 am
@Mark (158):
Please add to the knowledge of the average visitor to the site:
Is Divine’s genre more geared to the aficionado of cross dressing, or “shock” coverage of the gay lifestyle.
In other words, was he an icon of the alternative lifestyle, or was he an oddity to be gawked at by all?
And how did his inclusion in John Water’s vision help the acceptance of the gay movement in the US?
June 11th, 2009 at 6:31 am
@blogball (108):
You are so right that was a great comment, I was going to mention it but I was to lazy, but now with this new function we can all kiss our asses more often
June 11th, 2009 at 6:50 am
It is rumored that the actors from Salo are responsible for the death of Pasolini (no wonder after being forced to eat dong).
@AEQ69 (133):
Great call, The Cook is a masterpiece by Greenaway, but that movie belongs to another category maybe “10 More Extremely Disturbing and GREAT Movies”, such as Cronenberg´s Crash
June 11th, 2009 at 6:55 am
I thought all art was subjective ? If you believe this then this is art. (no sarcasm)
I would not watch these movies (that clip of washing your face with a brillo pad & trimming your lips with sissors was too much). But if you like these movies thats fine too.
June 11th, 2009 at 7:12 am
@psychosurfer (162):
…or should that be our smart asses?
June 11th, 2009 at 7:35 am
oh.my.god. i’m a teenager, it’s in the middle of the night, i’m alone in my bedroom and i have just finished the clip of cutting moments. i can take it when she rubbed that brush(?) over her lips, but when she cut her lips, i really have to forward it
June 11th, 2009 at 7:52 am
hey, u guys know bout the 1 child policy in china? many people say that when a couple expect a second child they will abort it and eat it??? i don’t believeit.. that’s insane..
June 11th, 2009 at 7:55 am
astraya (155): try to put colon
June 11th, 2009 at 7:56 am
ok.. how is it… hahaha!
June 11th, 2009 at 8:01 am
@astraya (155): yeah thats it.. awsome.. i love listverse… i want this to be my homepage! lol…
June 11th, 2009 at 8:28 am
@ringtailroxy (128): I’d say I especially wouldn’t want to meet the creative minds behind these movies. But I also would not want to meet, “anyone in the real world who would act out such atrocities…” as you state.
@Mark (135): Mark, thanks for backing me up. Once on a previous list I was accused of being, “too sensitive” by someone else. If not being able to stomach these movies qualifies me as such, I plead guilty as charged.
June 11th, 2009 at 8:31 am
i love slash movies. Where can i get this set?
June 11th, 2009 at 8:53 am
@Mark (143) The American version, only because I’ve never seen the Austrian, but I heard that the Austrian version was intended for American audiences in the first place. Wasn’t the director for both movies the same person?
June 11th, 2009 at 9:07 am
@The Bastard (145):
Im glad someone mentioned ken park, that movie was just f.cked up
June 11th, 2009 at 9:47 am
sweet movie appears in both lists
June 11th, 2009 at 10:04 am
JFrater: Have you mentioned Irreversible in any of your lists? I would have thought it would feature in this one. With an EXTREMELY graphic murder involving a face and a fire extinguisher, and a 10 minute rape scene, it definitely deserves a mention!
June 11th, 2009 at 10:39 am
That is actually a pretty decent list.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:40 am
WOW! LOL
June 11th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Hmmm…interesting list. I just added 2 more to my own this past week “Vulgar” (Kevin Smith and ViewAskew), and the 2003 re-make of “Party Monster” with Seth Green and Macaulay Culkin. You might not think they fit the list, but the first movie is creepy on all levels (clowns are just freaky), and the second is the re-make of a true story documentary…with a twist of “Clockwork Orange”…just a thought.
June 11th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
BEST LIST EVER!!!
Any way I can watch these films online??
June 11th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
oh my god. im gonna be sick! and i only skimmed
June 11th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
@erikasoup (170): like this?
June 11th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
I can’t do myself. Can anyone else do me, please?
June 11th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Sweet Movie is on both lists (cos no one else has said that).
I think Old Boy (Korean) was a really sick and twisted movie. I’m still undecided whether the final revelation of just what the movie has been about makes it better or worse – but it definitely makes it all the more disturbing.
June 11th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
ok.. I have to admit… I wasn’t brave enough to watch any of the clips… or even read the comments.
This from a woman who has to turn away from the screen during the scend in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King where they show Gollum biting into a “live” fish.
****cringe****

June 11th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Ya I’m not brave enough to watch any of the clips either. Maybe I’ll wait until hubby gets home. AHHHHHH
June 11th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
@Moonbeam (171): “Too sensitve”? For what? Not being able to sit through AUM? I think that makes you more intelligent than those of us who did watch it! I really wouldn’t advise the AU series for anyone who can’t stomach torture porn “torture” scenes – I couldn’t before I watched AU
– it’ll mess you up right and proper.
@Zri (173): Yeah, same director. I prefer the Austrian version, Peter and, in particular, Paul are much better in German IMO. I think it’s even more disturbing because to start of with, you couldn’t understand *why* they were doing this to the family, and now all of a sudden you can’t even understand what they’re saying. They seem so alien. You should give it a looksie if you liked the American version.
June 11th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
@astraya (183): Click on the name of the person who posted the comment, it should take you to the comment box and put it in… Or did you try that already?
June 11th, 2009 at 10:53 pm

June 11th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
what is this AUM people keep refering to?
June 11th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
@astraya (183): just click on the name you want to reply to..
June 11th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
@KDeAnn18 (191): AUM is August Underground Mordum – aka No.1 on the list.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:55 am
How about “Suicide Club” or “Suicide Circle” in Japan?
It’s not that squeamish but u have to see the train scene in youtube. Im not gonna go for details but it is pretty disturbing.
June 12th, 2009 at 2:26 am
@ThisNamesTaken (176):
Check the first list,
http://listverse.com/2007/11/07/top-15-most-disturbing-movies/
It’s there.
June 12th, 2009 at 2:48 am
Have spent a little more time researching AUM, and have found interesting side detail.
There is another disturbing film–Scrapbook–, not an August Underground title, but anyhow…
Checked to see if it is available through netflix, some of these listed are not, and came up with a new twist.
It is only available as an instant play selection, no DVD mailings. I believe that is the only time I have encountered this situation at netflix.
Makes me wonder if the company has a hard time getting their DVDs returned.
June 12th, 2009 at 5:00 am
@deeeziner (196): Scrapbook’s not nearly as bad as AUM. It’s basically a porn flick. I found it decent – mostly owing to the fact that I am an adolescent male
– but I wouldn’t bother, it’s pretty poor for the most part. Females definitely shouldn’t
June 12th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
where is “Black Christmas”?
June 12th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
. . . ughh . . . roooollffff . . . .
June 12th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
@jesse (198):
Where’s Black Christmas?
Uh, collecting dust in the back corner of a Blockbuster stock room
June 12th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
couldn’t bring myself to watch 8, 6, or 3.
June 12th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I’ve seen Dumpling before. There’s a part where she askes if it’s ‘too crunchy’ if so she’ll chop it finer. It adds a whole new creep factor to it. It was pretty interesting though.
June 13th, 2009 at 7:31 am
yes, this is what im talking about..nice.
HOWEVER…the one film which disturbed me more than anything ever, having seen most of these- is still spiderman 3, gave me nightmares for weeks knowing that id paid to see it, a film so bad it makes me cringe.
June 13th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Men Behind The Sun was and still is, extremely disturbing and violent…
What else can be said?

F*&%ing great im already downloading Cutting momentsand the french one and in my oppinion just by looking at the cli p i think the french one should have been number 2 cause getting stabed in the crotch by scisorrs is preety freaking distubing but number one shoud be cutting moments….I mean come on! she freaking cuts her lips off?! wtf!!!!
June 13th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Eeeeyaaaah!
Finally had a chance to watch these.
#6, Cutting Moments, was the one I had to watch through my fingers! That was really disturbing. It made me want to see the whole film, though. The trouble with clips is they
are out of context, or too short.
#4, Flower of Flesh and Blood – I don’t know how anyone could have thought that was real.
#1 – I think the description spoiled the ending. I think I can guess what happens! I don’t suppose that one will show up on the Independent Film Channel. :\
June 13th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Aaw. I couldn’t watch the last one, August Underground’s Mordum! And I agree with 206 about having to watch Cutting Moments through their fingers… It was gross.
June 13th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
I could not watch them all but the clips I did see were not very disturbing.
June 13th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
What’s the difference between these films and real life? That one is being faked? Intriguing yes, but if you actually enjoy this stuff . . . I don’t know, this world is too disturbing.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:42 am
I’m surprised, albeit quite pleasantly, of the inclusion of AU’s “Mordum”.
Toetag’s movies are brilliant and “Mordum” is definately deserving of the top spot.
I adore this list, btw.
Yay for blood and guts and perversion!
June 14th, 2009 at 5:20 am
@MandieMurder (210): Surprised? Really? I was expecting at least on AU when I opened the original list. The first thing I thought when I saw this was “Toetag,” I knew that had to get one in sometime
I’ll agree that the movies themeselves are brilliant. But every now and then when I think about it… you’ve just got to wonder is being involved in that kind of production is healthy. Still, Killjoy was in Mordum, I thought that was pretty cool
June 14th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Not watched a single one! I’m fine. Probably the beginning of some sort of self inflicted denial brain damage. Nevermind. I’m fine.
June 14th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Oh god, the dumplings one really got me. XP The weird thing was after being grossed out by the video and description, my mom came in my room and got me fried dumplings from a Chinese restuarant…
June 15th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
OMG i just saw “men behind the sun” (#5) and i have only now learned that the cats were REAL! and there was another scene where they put a man in a decompression chamber and when he lost consciousness he is replaced by the corpse – a REAL corpse – of a pre-deceased man which then spills its guts out thru its anus! the authenticity of the boy’s body is disputed though, but they do have some very convincingly realistic props… and when they ripped its heart out it was still beating so if the body was real… GGRRRR!!
it’s no surprise that the director got death threats – he’s no different from the evil characters whom the actors portrayed! the cats being eaten alive and mice burned to death were totally useless for they contribute nothing to the plot; they’re just there purely for more blood & gore, and thus two cats and hundreds of mice suffered a terrible death, all for NOTHING. in conclusion: it’s not merely a horror movie depicting criminal acts; it is a horrible crime in itself.
(btw sorry if ever this turns out as a double post – i posted it earlier but i kept reloading and it never showed)
June 16th, 2009 at 2:07 am
I’m surprised nobody has commented about the perky, melony, manboobs on the father(?) in the filmclip for Murder-Set-Pieces (Item 2).
June 17th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
I definitely think The People Under The Stairs should be on here. It’s not disturbing like these, but disturbing.
Basically these two people are on the search for the perfect children. They’ve found a girl, but not a boy. Every boy has either seen, spoken, or heard evil. If they see evil, they take out the boy’s eyes. Heard evil? There goes his ears. Said something evil? Oops. There’s his tongue. Then, they throw all the boys together in the basement.
This movie is truly disturbing in every aspect. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. You can find it on the internet.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:38 am
This was a very disturbing list to reed. I had nightmares about it!
June 18th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Sweet (7) was in the first list…..
June 19th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Dont know if anyones suggested this yet. But you should throw Cannibal Holocaust on your next list. Definantly the most disturbing movie i’ve seen. and certain parts of it are rumoured to be part of a real snuff film.
June 20th, 2009 at 9:56 am
I’m surprised Salo (120 Days of Sodom) wasn’t mentioned. Based on De Sades book, it contains a lot of fece and torture action.
June 20th, 2009 at 10:53 am
@breakneck777 (219): It’s on the first list.
@Alucard (220): It’s on the first list.
The link to the first list can be found at the beginning of this list and a couple of times throughout the comments here.

“Le Fin Absolue du Monde”? ok it wasn’t technichally real but still made for a good short story
June 21st, 2009 at 9:15 pm
I saw “Pink Flamingos” when I was 21 and too young to see it. Now it seems downright refreshing after seeing some of these other clips. How about “Le Grand Bouef”, the French movie where these chefs get together in a suicide pact and cook and eat until they die of the effects? Great way to start a diet! It says a lot about greed and human nature with very little violence. Occasionally I like some subtlety in my movies.
June 22nd, 2009 at 9:16 pm
not sure if it’s “disturbing” enough, but I like “Lost Highway”. I’ve only seen bits an pieces of it in school, but from what I saw, I liked it.
June 26th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I FEEL AS THOUGH AMATEUR PORN STAR KILLER SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON HERE BEFORE AUGUST UNDERGROUNDS MORDEM…I’VE SEEN THAT MOVIE AND IT DOEN’T STAND UP TO THE DISTURBANCE OF THE FIRST ASPK…now it may have been bloodier but it isn’t as disturbing
June 28th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
Great list! When I saw that “Inside” was only #7, I knew that the author had a command of the subject. It took me weeks searching for ‘ultra-gore’ films before I discovered “Men Behind the Sun,” the guinea pig movies, and the August Underground flicks. I wish I had this list years ago. I look forward to checking out Cutting Moments and Slaughtered Vomit Dolls.
I also encourage anyone who likes movies that pack a punch to check out Gasper Noe’s “I Stand Alone.” Any movie that makes you think that the most ethical thing to do is to have sex with your daughter is unique in its depravity.
and thanks for the nod to Yugoslavian New Wave cinema: anything my Makavejev is worth watching.
June 30th, 2009 at 10:39 am
I just commented on the American documentaries list and I feel I must add Sick: the story of Bob Flannagan supersadomasocist on this list as well. The story of Bob who has a terminal dz. He might (at the time have been the oldest living person with his dz.) Bob was a performance artist and all around good guy who had to resort to self mutilation and sadomasocism to relieve the pain of being barely able to breathe. It is also a love story of 2 people who found themselves in the other.
I urge you to see this film if you like to be disturbed by TRUE stories. I still think of Bob and sort of mourn him as if I knew him. There are many stories like his waiting to be seen.
TRUE DISTURBIA IS THE BEST!!
July 1st, 2009 at 6:45 pm
You should do a Japanese version. Those are some of the most effed up movies I’ve EVER seen. i.e. Battle Royale, Living Hell, Audition. Good, good, stuff.
July 10th, 2009 at 2:43 am
i did not dare to watch, not even one! reading about such things is enough!
July 18th, 2009 at 11:02 am
wow, and I thought Hostel was pretty bad. i feel so sick from Cutting Moments. Great List
July 20th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
WHAT ABOUT SALÓ!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
July 20th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
@Glomer (231): WHAT ABOUT IT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
July 31st, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Oh my gosh. I’ll agree with the person that said “whoa mama back to Disney films.” I won’t ever watch this shit. It’s too fucking nasty.
August 3rd, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Good list, I have seen all but dumplings.
You should check out a very long movie called Philosophy of a Knife, based on true story of the man behind the sun experiments. filmed in black and white, still very disturbing and makes most of the above list seem like a PG rated stuff
August 12th, 2009 at 10:43 am
pee wee`s big adventure and labyrinth were pretty disturbing
August 27th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Don’t forget 3 guys and 1 hammer…plus the footage is real
September 8th, 2009 at 5:04 am
where is i spit on your grave or a clockwork orange. both movies were banned for more than 25 years due to their disturbing stories and bizarre antics
September 14th, 2009 at 3:26 am
@Cicjose (237): It think that A Clockwork Orange is brilliant – trust me I can stop saying “Kubrick is god” to almost everyone I talk to – but it doesn’t compare to this stuff.
I Spit On Your Grave… well, that’s a different matter…
September 14th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
What about Cannibal Holocaust? That’s pretty damn disturbing!!!
September 15th, 2009 at 1:34 am
@stephanie (239): Cannibal Holocaust made memorable appearance – at number one
– on the original “Top 15 Most Disturbing Movies” list. Which personally I think is crap because IMO any AU movie beats Cannibal Holocaust in terms of “disturbingness”.
September 19th, 2009 at 7:34 am
cicjose :a clockwork orange isnt on there because in todays terms it isnt as violent as todays movies . also where is caligula . i also heard that salo , or the 120 days of sodom was disturbing ( it was based on a book by marquies de sade
September 26th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
HOSTEL should be on the list
October 23rd, 2009 at 12:28 am
i thought A L’Interieuer was kinda lame really. it reminded me of the old Lucio Fulci films where there’s gore to point of being erotic and you start to wonder ‘gee, should i be like masturbating to this or something?’…
i think Seul Contre Tous (I Stand Alone) is a candidate on many disturbing levels: philosophical nihilism, graphic violence, themes. and Philosophy Of A Knife can be somewhat gruelling if you have the five or so hours to watch it in its entirety…
December 9th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Eraserhead, Brown Bunny, Visitor Q and Grimm Love are the most distuirbing movies that I have personnaly seen. This list was full of horribly intriguing films, I plan on seeing them if I can find them. Cutting Moments was hard to watch!
December 22nd, 2009 at 2:01 am
wow! that cutting moments clip …. good stuff!
anyone watched Family Portraits: A Trilogy of America ???
January 11th, 2010 at 9:01 am
I’ve seen the top 6 movies and I must say… Wow… What about Mermaid in a Manhole (J-horror) by Hideshi Hino; 120 Days of Salo (Italian); Irreversible (French)? What creeps me out the most is number 5, Men Behind the Sun, which was the only one I couldn’t watch all the way… I’ve seen August Underground’s Mordum, a few times, though. Great list, anyway!
January 11th, 2010 at 9:02 am
Also, Cannibal Holocaust. It wasn’t too bad, though.
January 24th, 2010 at 12:58 am
love the list, i’ve seen almost all of them. i think this list is closer to the term gore wich I didn’t think of the 15 disturbing films. but i think reckoning day deserves a place here to.
I loved the antagonist in à l’interieur, the woman is truely crazy and won’t give up. nice
