A cryptid is a creature who may be thought by some people to exist, but is not recognized by the scientific community. Cryptids appear frequently in folklore and mythology but – as you will see – tales of them appear still to this day. One cryptid that is well-known is Bigfoot. After the giant squid was discovered, I became fascinated (and creeped out) by these bizarre creatures. This list is in no particular order.

Champ and Nessie are creatures that have similar backgrounds and descriptions. People have reported seeing these creatures in Lake Champlain, USA, and Loch Ness, in Scotland. Reports of Nessie describe the creature as being 20 feet long with dark grey skin. She is reported as having humps and at least one set of paddles. She has a head similar to a horse‘s. Witness reports vary on the description, but not by a lot. The most reported sightings of Nessie occurred in the 1930s and still occur to this day. Champ has been sighted for as long as 400 years. Native American tribes have even older legends of a beast in Lake Champlain. Champ is also described as being about 20 feet long (lengths vary) with a serpentine body. He also is reported as having a horse-like head. Champ has had laws pushed through to protect him. The most interesting thing about Champ and Nessie is that they are thought to be dinosaurs that managed to survive. Descriptions of them are similar to a plesiosaur.

Chupacabras have been reported to suck the blood out of livestock, similar to the way a vampire would. The chupacabra has been a very confusing subject for crypto zoologists to research because descriptions vary so much. American “chupacabras” have been usually proven to be a canine breed. Usually, they have mange so bad that they look like another creature entirely. Researchers have found sightings as early as 1974. They have also found that the chupacabra is similar to a creature in legends of the Taino Indians. The Puerto Rican sightings have gathered the most interest. Sightings had been reported from 1995 to 1999. The chupacabra has been reported as having large glowing red or orange eyes, huge fangs, sharp claws, spikes running down it’s back, and as standing on two limbs. In one sighting, the chupacabra changed colors before their eyes. One theory is that they are a scientific experiment gone horribly wrong.

These little guys were sighted in Flores, Indonesia, from ancient times to the 19th century. They’re described as hairy and short with big guts. They walk like humans. They are said to have mimicked the words people said to them. Australians and Indonesians found skeletons of a new species of human at an archaeological site. They were believed to live over ten thousand years ago. The skeletons were about a meter tall. These skeletons were thought to possibly be the ebu gogo of Indonesian folklore. The ebu gogo have been used by Indonesians as a scare tactic to get their children to behave. The term “ebu gogo” means grandmother who eats anything. Legend has it that the ebu gogo and the people lived in peace… for a while. The ebu gogo started killing crops and the humans’ animals. They fled to caves when the humans started killing them. These caves were eventually set on fire after the ebu gogo stole a baby. Some were said to have fled to the Liang Bua caves, which is the cave where the archaeologists found the small skeletons.

Springheel Jack has been reported in London, New Mexico, Massachusetts, and Argentina, from 1837 to our time. Springheel Jack is thought to be a tall and thin man, who wears a tightly fitted hat and a black cape. He has large claws and sometimes his eyes are described as glowing a bright red. In 1837, a man, thought to be a police officer knocked on a woman’s door, claiming to have caught Springheel Jack. She came back with a candle and the man had disappeared. She went outside to find a man by her gate. After giving the man the candle, who happened to be Springheel Jack, he attacked her. He spit white and blue flames out of his mouth and tore at her dress and face with his claws. He fled after the woman’s sister came out after hearing her screams. In 1877, people reported their bullets shooting through him, while he remained unharmed. In the 1930s, he was reported being in Silver City, New Mexico, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The reports remained the same. In 2005, he has been reported as jumping from one roof to the next, up to five meters high and ten meters long. Some people link him to Jack the Ripper.

Shadow people are reported worldwide and since the beginning of recorded history. Shadow people seem to be living shadows. They are usually seen out of the corner of peoples eyes. Some people see semi-transparent dark splotches. They vanish as soon as a person realizes what they saw. When people see shadow people a feeling of despair and fear overcome them. There have been some reports of being attacked or chased by these shadows. The shadows are usually larger than a normal shadow and doesn’t resemble the person’s silhouette. I have personally came across a shadow like this and a dreadful feeling came over me for a brief moment. It was abnormally large and moved, when I did not.

This beast was sighted in Wisconsin, USA. It has been sighted since 1936. It runs on all four limbs, or its hind limbs. It is said to be about six feet tall, built like an athletic man and covered in shaggy hair. He has a wolf-like face with yellow eyes, that glow in the light. A woman said it was the closest creature to resemble a werewolf that she had ever seen. He has a horrible odor of decaying meat. In 1936, this beast was seen digging in an Indian burial site. The watchman prayed for his life upon seeing him. The beast reportedly said “gadarah” to him and walked away on his two hind legs. Gadara was a Greek city, located east of the Jordan River. It is mentioned in the New Testament. According to the Bible, Jesus met a man who was thought to have been possessed by evil spirits. This man was so strong that he could break through chains. When the man saw Jesus, he worshiped him. He told Jesus his name was Legion, and that there were many like him. Jesus cured him of the evil spirits, by transferring them to a herd of pigs. The pigs then ran into the sea and died. The theory is that the beast of Bray Road was trying to tell the man about his kind and that his kind has been around since biblical times.

This creature has been sighted in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, USA. Sightings have been reported since 1966. The moth man is a gray and winged creature with large glowing red eyes located in what would normally be the creature’s upper chest. It is about six feet tall and wider than a man. The first report was made by five males who were at work in a cemetery. As they were preparing a burial site, they had seen a creature that appeared to be man-like fly over them. In another report, a group of people were chased while they were in their vehicle going at least 100 mph by a similar creature. The mothman had managed to keep up with them for a while, before flying away. They claimed the mothman did not flap his wings while flying. Some people even reported their car completely dying, momentarily, when they have sighted the creature. The mothman has also been linked to UFO sightings and seemingly legitimate claims of “men in black” visits at a newspaper office.

Atmospheric beasts are reported to have semi-solid bodies and are often invisible. They can fly, but have no visible wings. Sometimes atmospheric beasts are reported as UFOs. Ivan T. Sanderson claims that most UFOs are actually atmospheric beasts. He theorizes that atmospheric beasts are animals that live in the clouds. Sometimes the atmospheric beast is reported to change shape, color, and texture. People who believe in atmospheric beasts think that the creature will die if they ever touch the ground. Some people even report them spitting streams of water at them. Others report that the beasts smell like mildew and feel like a giant soft tongue. They also seem to resemble animals of the sea, rather than land animals.

The Maryland goatman has been seen in Prince Georges County, Maryland, USA, since the 1970s. It is reported as having the lower body of a goat and the upper body of a man. He also has the horns of a goat. He’s about 7 feet tall and 300 pounds. The goatman was first sighted by a couple of lovers who had been making out in their car. The goatman had an ax in his hand, while staring at the couple. He then ran into the woods. A woman reported that she had seen the creature in her backyard while her dog was barking urgently. She was too scared to go outside and found that her dog had had it’s head chopped off, when she went outside the next morning.

There are legends of this creature in Africa. He is said to have looked like a mix of a man and a monkey. Legend had it that the creature had magical powers and enjoyed the taste of human flesh. Female pongos turned into gorgeous women in order to get close enough to a man to eat him. Pongos and humans could reproduce hybrid kids who looked like normal humans, but had cannibalistic tendencies. In 1847, the pongo was amazingly discovered to exist. However, it is now called a gorilla and known to be a vegetarian. Okay, I admit this animal is obviously no longer a cryptid. However, it shows that reports of cryptids may sometimes be over-exaggerated, and if some are found to exist they may actually turn out to be pretty damn ordinary.

those are weird creatures
I’d hate to meet goat man! Great list as always.
Forgot to say I also have felt/seen a shadow person, I felt scared and ill until it vanished and then I felt fine, it was a horrible experience.
I know right and I live in PG County!!! WTF
Nessie/Champ is cute. Great list!!!
i grew up (partially) in washington d.c. — and everyone had their panties in knots over chessie — the d.c./chesapeke bay version of the loch ness monster. — basically reads the same as the "monsters" listed here
I live in VA and never heard of Chessie. I guess I'll look at the bay a bit differently from now on!
i grew up in 3 places —( l.a., albuquerque, and the d.c. area) — in dc, i lived for a bit in fairfax co., va, and a bit in d.c. proper. chessie was a mainstay conversation piece — halloween parties, school (i went grade 2, 3 in georgetown, and three more grades in arlington or springfield) — photo contests ….there used to be a restaurant named "chesapeke bay" which had a giant picture on the wall near the live lobsters, and little plastic chessies on the bottom of all the fish tanks. judging by the look of the costumes, i'd bet it became more for the kids, than simply arbitrary lore, although i do remember people camping-out every now and then during summer/fall hoping to snap a definative pic. yanno — sorta like the crazy people at loch ness. check em out:::
wiki-page (most of you know i hate wiki) —- this page is mostly accurate,
as well as having the added bonus of including a pic of one of the famous chessie halloween costumes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chessie_(sea_monster…
a site making the differentiation b/w chessie the manatee (who is named after the monster), and chessie the monstor — snake-thing….whatever it is.
http://www.gettysburgghosts.net/chessie.htm
I have to admit to believing the first Chessie far more, as a monster, than the second…but maybe that just me.
We also have another "Loch Ness Monster" here in BC, Canada. It lives in Okanagan Lake and is called Ogopogo. I wonder how many more are out there?
awesome list! i couldnt help but have a smile on my face as i read it!
every society and culture has some of these guys
#9 Chupacabras !!!! Now that's a creepy photo
That photo is a known fake.
2day’s list roxx! i’ve nevr befor hrd of atmospheric beasts so it was cool to learn about them. i also think that when it comes to shadow people a majority of the readers must have come across them.
What about vampires? can’t they be termed a cryptid?
If you mean vampire bats or other blood sucking animal, then some of them at least used to be such. Chupacabra can be count as one as usually it is thought to be a blood sucker.
How ever the human-vampire is a supernatural being without any basis in rality. They're undead. They're humans come back from graves as some monster things – not a separate species.
If you mean people who like drinking blood – especially that of other humans – then no, becuse we know people like that exist.
this website is a joke hahahah
*sigh* What people convince themselves to believe….
Still, with man's insanity, anything is possible.
it seems like you are one of the unfortunate human beings who wasnt born with a properly functioning imagination. sorry
Is it just me or did the Ebu gogo picture scare the ***** out of you when you were scrolling by it? It could just be that I’m working alone at 430 in the morning but ya =/
I completely agree, kinda put me off the list for a while.. I was scared to scroll down after that.
yeah, she is kind of unsettling.
It was rather unnerving, after looking at it for a few seconds I had to scroll down a bit so I could read the piece without it staring at me.
"ebu gogo" is kind of a nice name, with a nice assuasive feel to it.
when i had mrs. gogo as my 3rd grade teacher, she was still going by her given name: mrs. mealia . all us "cool" kids called her mrs. mealworm.
i can certianly see why she went for the name change.
Yes, I exited out of the page straight away. But yeah, I was looking at it at 2am. I worked up the courage to finish reading the list today at midday
it was scary..
Oh hell yeah it did. It sent me chills over my spine when I was looking at that creepy monster near midnight!!
I JUST CAN”T SLEEP BECAUSE OF THE EBU GOGO’S PHOTO!!!
Chupacabras are real, without a fact. There`s been films taken of them. They have long ears like a Rabbits, have this wierd walk, don`t have any fur, are a light grey, and have two massive teeth, like those species of Deer, which have two massive canine teeth.
the more you post the less i trust your relationship with reality is a sound one……
i thought it was just me.
i was really beginning to wonder if the puzzle-house he stays in started increasing patients' internet time.
There are a few posters here like that, lo.
I think the the cuckoo's nest is getting their meds mixed up.
"like those species of Deer, which have two massive canine teeth." do you mean boar?
I think he means the Chinese Water Deer, which do indeed have fangs. It's pretty freaky looking.
They're technically not true deers though, but thanks for the clarification
Musk deer, true deer, it's good enough for me!
The Deer in my yard have perfectly normal deer teeth (I check them out when I brush & floss them).
I live in Texas, so reports of the Chupacabra are pretty common. Like it said in the list, most of the reports turn out to be a coyote with mange. A few years ago, a lady killed a creature that was attacking her chickens. A local news station did a DNA test on the thing, and it turned out to be, again, a coyote with mange. Then, a few months ago, a deputy sheriff in the same area filmed what looked like a really ugly dog running down a road.
All in all, I think that the chupacabra is just a case of misidentification. I don't know why, but in South Texas you tend to find coyotes with mange lying on the side of the road dead. Most of the time, people don't think anything of it, but there is always that one person who wants to know more.
A mangy coyote is something I pray I never see!
Normal, furry, coyotes are ugly enough, and we have enough of those. Much more beautiful, and unlikely to be reported as a Chupacabra, are the foxes. They are far less social than the coyotes; less likely to be spotted.
Our Bobtailed Cats, on the other hand, will walk casually into the open, and give one of those babies a bad case of mange, and it could be reported as just about anything.
Chupacabras are a huge hoax. I saw a program about it on Animal Planet.
The Jersey Devil, the Australian Yowie (similar to Bigfoot) and a honest & noble politician. They're all rumoured to exist and even though I live in hope, I have yet to see one.
well, i dont know about the first 2, but the third is just impossible. people have been looking for one for thousands of years but are yet to even sight one.
jewditzsue – Nice list: but plesiosaurs are NOT dinosaurs (#10)
hey, mom, oochan, etc- is my comment in moderation for including 2 links? i can't even see it in my "intense debate profile", i hope it isn't lost completely.
i will wait and see before retyping i guess. i was hoping that "rule" didn't carry over to the new comment system, i guess that was an unfounded supposition….
anyway, i'd like to know before i retype it in full.
p.s to all- it was an admission of my love of cryptozoology and a cited debunking of "rods/atmospheric beats" as video artifacts…..
oh, and i'm totally logged-in to WP (see it at the top), yet it is not being recognized here in the "add comment" area. calling tech support!!!! (a la vanilla sky)
wow…..thanks for you amazing comment……you will be praised for your knowledge….thanks again for nothing!
I hate to be *that* person but…..plesiosaurs are NOT dinosaurs. They were marine reptiles. If it lived in water or flew it wasn't a dinosaur.
Except that there are flying dinosaurs. They'r commonly known as birds.
It's not about where or how the animal lived that defines it – it's about the structure and evolutionary history of the organism.
Pterosaurs (flying creatures such as pteranodon) and plesiosaurs (marine predators divided into three groups) were not dinosaurs though – you are absolutely correct about that.
Well, technically birds are descendants of dinosaurs, they're not exactly dinosaurs as such. It'd be sort of like saying that lions and tigers are the same as sabre-toothed cats.
actually birds are technically dinosaurs. the difference in your *****ogy is that lions and tigers aren't descendents of saber-toothed cats.
correct Avi! they all shared a common ancestor, like humans & the great apes shared a proto-ape ancestor…
yes avi, but saying birds are like dinosaurs is like saying that humans are still apes
also it is not possible for it to be a plesiosaur because the pictures show the head out of the water but plesiosaur's necks and heads are too heavy to lift out of the water and the neck would snap
i think shadow people is just our mind playing tricks on us. sometimes when i stare at something for too long then look way, i see a skewed black version of it in the corner of my eye. im not saying i debunked it, cause sometimes i am scared, but this is just what i think.
everyone posting is a fool….smile on your brother…or not…rip on me/rip on you….really…..get a life….blogs are fun when people actually make sense….not ranting for some godforsaken reason….every list is a ***** fest these days…..can we actually have a conversation or no?
uuuh
start one.
what would you like to talk about?
getalife posted "everyone posting is a fool…"
~ahem~
well, then, shall we talk?
Then what are you doing reading all of these posts?? go to your blog.
by the way you are the only one ranting everyone else is just commenting about how they liked this list or not so shut the ***** up and enjoy the damn list or don't look at it dumbass!
Nice list but i don’t think springheel jack should be in this list.Btw,just wondering,do the picture for item no 1 is real?
Yes, the picture is real and the Pongo is coming to get you! idiot…
The Springboks might want to use it as a mascot – they have lost 3 on the trot now !
Yes, and he even put pants on because he knew he was being photographed.
Its actually a woman wearing the pants.
yes. the's smiling for the camera. even got his hair brushed and got his trouser ironed… too bad the short was still at laundry when the photographer came.
Abominable snowman- Yeti? It is supposed to be the national animal of Nepal or Bhutan! (I'm not sure)
It's neither
Funnily enough Bhutan have a dragon as one of their national animals.
Oh sorry maybe Yeti= Bigfoot
Great, now I'm scared to look at my shadow.
Q: Why is there never a clear, in-focus photo of the Yeti?
A: Because the Yeti is fuzzy !
That reminds me of one of my favorite Mitch Hedberg lines:
"I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry, and that's extra scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run, he's fuzzy, get out of here."
interesting list…tho a lot of them seem to be cmin out of urban legends…
Most cryptids ARE urban legends
OK so is Loch Ness a lake now? I live 40 miles away and have never heard it being described as both a loch and a lake. Yes the word loch can mean lake/inlet/river but seriously everyone knows loch ness without it being described as lake ness lake. anyways besides that, fantastic list as always. Got to love these mysteries.
wtf? Loch Ness was always a lake, that were the friggin' creature got its name!
people don't actually believe all this, right? I mean shadow people? atmospheric beasts? got to be effing kidding me
you'd be surprised ath the rubbish some people believe…..
d'oh! 'at the', obviously
Some people would believe in talking butter
Shadow people are a tad bit believable. You can't tell me that you haven't been at home one night and thought to have seen a shadow or something that just disappeared.
i fail to see how that makes them believable. I know people can believe what they want but a little bit of common sense goes a long way
in any case I was happy to know that jfrater did not produce this list. Although I think many would agree that Listverse could have done a lot better done this
whoops that'd be than, obviously
hey man there are so many things we dont know about. atmospheric beasts could be low flying clouds, shadow people could be shadows or just really dark animals or they might actually be real so no we are not *****ing kidding you. if you are commenting at least have the balls to say *****ing instead of effing cause seriously no one says that
Yeah, because it’s soooo much more believable that birds evolved from dinosaurs, man evolved from apes, and everything “grew” out of little, tiny amoebas. Give me a break.
That’s the same thing as saying “horses or cows were fish at one time” or vice versa. Please. If something lives on land, it lives on land. It doesn’t “magically” morph into some other type of creature that all of a sudden can breathe underwater when it could not before. Legs don’t turn into flippers, huge, lumbering beasts w/rough, scaly skin don’t turn into teeny, tiny little flying balls of fluffy feathers.
Bunch of hypocritical b.s. people really are as dumb as they look and act.
You… do know that cryptids are supposed to be undiscovered animals right? In other words: What the heck are Springheel Jack, Shadow People, and Mothman doing here?
I believe that a cryptid is supposed to be any creature that cannot be proven to exist or not exist. At least in my experience. I think that Springheel Jack and the the others you mentioned aren't considered human, but a humanoid animal that cannot be proven to exist or not exist. As for shadow people, I think they are better classified as paranormal, like ghosts and such.
mothman is an animal. it has the word MAN in it and humans are animals too. (yes it also has moth in it which is not an animal but it has more man like apearences than moth)
a moth is an animal….
Weren't #3 Atmospheric beasts proven to be just flying insects filmed with slower shutter speed?
my 9 year old niece walked in when i was looking at that entry and asked me why there was a picture of a ballerina in the sky.
i thought she was just being weird, but i actually see it now. and its way clearer than that dumb-ass list where the retarded guy said — ok lets look at the lion king. see the word '*****' in the stars.?/// .. .no? — see that one movie where the preacher has a raging boner ……. etc etc etc
where the hell do you see a ballerina?!?!?! and btw the movie pictures are real your mind just has to be dirty enough to be able to see them
probably. scientists just have to ruin all of our fun
Loch Ness monster is an admitted hoax. Also, plesiosaurs are NOT dinosaurs.
All mythical monsters are fascinating in one way or another. Too bad most of these animals are just a figment of someone's imagiantion – but when some real animal is either discovered to be the thing it's usually pretty cool that the thing exists – though usually it's not as big of a monstrosity than believed. These rumours tend to get out of hand fast.
Then there are those that can be explained with sight from all ready known animals which for hat ever reason seemed not so ordinary to the person who spotted them.
For a ong time the platypus was thought to be an imaginary animal and the specimen brought dead to scientists was simply stated as a hoax. Also a bird called quezal was well known by the local people, but they made it into something mystical by removing their legs and selling the modified bodies. The bird was thought to be a sort of quetzalcoatl-like monster thingy (like a feathered dragon baby or whatever)
Then of course there are fossils – and I wouldn't be surprised if prior to the knowledge about extinction or evolution / age of the earth people thought them to be remains of dragons.
Basically any freak of nature can also bring about a legendary creature – such as a one horned goat (unicorn were originally large goat like creatures) or seeing a horned animal from the distance… Not to mention the discovery of narwahl horns dislocated from the bodies before the whale itself was known to man.
I'm glad that there are people dedicated to study cryptozoology but many times these people aren't interested in advancing our understanding of nature rather than keep the legends alive because they simply want them to be real or because their income is dependant on the "existence" of such material
sorry about the typoes – the computer lags like hell and I'm not used to this computer's keyboard :p
Also, the animal causing the confusion can also be another human. Goat like pants and fake horns + axe murderer ! Basically I'm just saying many of these possible daydreams/ creatures can be easily duplicated…
I used to make fake photos of ghosts, monsters and fake prints as a kid for no other reason than being bored
"Then of course there are fossils – and I wouldn't be surprised if prior to the knowledge about extinction or evolution / age of the earth people thought them to be remains of dragons. "
Check out The First Fossil Hunters: Paleontology in Greek and Roman Times by Adrienne Mayor.
"Loch Ness monster is an admitted hoax"
What are you talking about? Everyone person that has ever claimed to see it has admitted they lied? All pictures and videos have been admitted fake? umm, no. Not true. There is not grand master of the Loch Ness monster that came out and said "oh, jk guys!" If you don't believe in it, fine. But a statement like that doesn't make sense, nor has any support.
The very first photo/sighting of Nessie was admitted to be a hoax by the original photographers, that’s all that is needed.
If I lie and say that I saw a flying saucer with certain distinguishing marks, at a certain location, and several people come out and claim having seen the same sight. If I then come clean and say it was a hoax, you certainly wouldn’t need confirmation or agreement from the sheep that grazed in my pasture.
“They vanish as soon as a person realizes what they saw” maybe its that guy from a previous list that said that he becomes invisible when nobody’s looking. I mean how convinient of these shadow creatures, to vanish when they’re noticed. It might be my pet alien. Its invisible to everybody else but me. And i cant prove his existence. He likes turtles.
“There have been some reports of being attacked or chased by these shadows.” why didnt they just look at the shadow and it would have vanished.
“I have personally came across a shadow like this and a dreadful feeling came over me for a brief moment.” im sorry. It was a fun list but this part made me doubt that you are a skeptical person
“It was abnormally large and moved” whats the normal size of a shadow person?
“A woman said it was the closest creature to resemble a werewolf that she had ever seen” so this woman actually saw a lot more creatures? Hmmm there should be a test. If you see more than one cryptide you should be declared nuts.
I dont know anything about the goatman but i think randall would be very excited if they’ll find a goatwoman.
I always like to read folklore stories. The picture of the Chupacabra creeped me out the most. Interesting and entertaining read.
There is 1 more creature called the YETI…It lives in Himalayas (as they say)..
Read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeti
Pongo looks like doin 'Disco dance'….
Yeah kidzy boo I don't think anyone here knew that …*hmpf*
Hey. Some nice bedtime stories here.
Some of these stories have archeological evidence to support the theory that these creatures (or something that may have the same sorts of features) did /or could have lived a long time ago- sparking the folklore and superstition stories we see today. As the list poster points out, some of these items are stories told to kids to knock them down a peg, or to make them think twice before staying out after dark.
I think it’s tradition now to think of Nessy and the others as ‘real’ [wink] – and it’s fun to show these double-exposed photos to kids and ingnite their imagination.
Some, like items #2 and #1 were clearly men cocking about is funny constumes – fresh from their lodge meetings of ill repute.
Spingheel Jack was reported to be a real 19th century guy with some kind of ligament disorder which made it possible for him to jump higher than a caffinated springbok. A few notable murders followed, and some folks pointed towards the stories they had read in the paper claiming “That’s him, that’s the guy you want! It wasn’t me. I was nowhere near the murder at the time – and those hoof marks and cart tracks which match my buggy are entirely inconsequential.”
hey man stop ruining our fun!
lol @ pongo. no called gorilla
Huh?
Chupacabras are real animals these days. Im from southern texas and we got them here. looks like a coyote with the mange with some huge frickin teeth. you can google it and see some pics.
Yeah…They have a serious infestation of those things in Cuero.
Just because you have some rabid manged half breed coyotes running around south Texas doesn't mean they are the folklore chupacabra. It means they are rabid manged half breed coyotes. I seriously doubt any of them have done any goat sucking before either.
Well, they tend to attack chickens and live stock. Of course, that does not mean that they are a chupacabra. Their aggresiveness is probably just a side effect of the mange.
'when you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras' – look for the simplest explanation first. this is part of logical thinking
so what it is, is a coyote with mange, not chupacabra. or is that what chupacabra actually is?
Shadow people make for excellent dancing pals, as this kid found out!!!

I want my 2 minutes back. Usually when you post a link it has to be *interesting* stuff. Thats the rule.
Knew of most of these, but good list nonetheless. Always had a fascination for cryptids
Very interesting list, but very poorly written. It was like reading something that I child had put together, especially with the punctuation where the commas were misplaced, which was probably the only thing that annoyed me.
Oh, and Springheel Jack?…BATMAN!! *squee*
How come Bigfoot and Jesus weren't mentioned? Both are believed in by millions of people yet there is no hard evidence to prove they actually did/do exist…
Once in a while we got a jerk that repeats a comment from 3-4-5 months ago.
Randall settled this once. There is evidence for jesus.
If you want to post inflamatory stuff atleast know that trolls have existed before you and nothing you say is knew. Du***ss
I find it interesting that even though you defend Jesus, you fail to capitalize his name.
Dickhead
If you are to accept the evidence that have been put forth to prove Jesus, you have to lower your standards of proof much further than the scientific community would ever do. The “proof” of Jesus would never have been deemed as proof of anything, were it any other historical figure.
Most historians do not accept the “proof” of jesus.
no, there isn't.
link it for us
there's evidence of someone named "Yeshua" existing that claimed to be a prophet(if not multiples, considering how common the name was), but he was from around 75-100 years before biblical Jesus, and 140 years before the first gospel of Jesus was written. That same first gospel describing a Jesus who only existed on a spiritual plane…
Im not defending anyone. Im just saying you’re 4-5 months late and go check the archives if this beautiful site.
Ps: quite a grammar nazi yet you fail to see i wrote knew instead of new and that i wrote inflamatory instead of inflammatory. Stop focusing on religion dude.
I don't live on this site (like you obviously do) and have not committed to memory every single posting ever made. Get a life and take some basic English and grammar lessons, asswipe.
If you have to start insulting people to make your point, the argument is already lost.
How original and funny!!!
I was pointing out that you were wrong in general and that your trollish comment has been already seen.
I am the troll hammer and i will strike you down.
You are a douchebag and that is so pathetic….
i completely agree. but most people believe in jesus and god because they have to. some people just feel better if they have something to explain things like "why are we here" or "who created the universe" but i have answers to both of those. we are here for the same reason all other animals eat sleep ***** thats about it. and who created the universe? no one it was always there.why do people need to know these things why cant they just live happily not knowing? why do they care?
Why must you all quarrel about me? I’m here, Aren’t I?
Just have to say about Number 2. The description is ‘Lower body of a goat and upper body of a man’ and the picture shows an upper body of a goat.
head of a goat but look at his chest
What about the Lake Worth goatman just saying
Its really depressing why these ''formidable creatures'' are mostly fotographed either hiding, or running away or closet shyly peeping from a distance…They shud have been like in ''Attacking mode''… After all they are ''Bizarre Cryptids''…
cryptids is just a word to describe undescovered animals not whatever you thought they were
In my country the Tokoloshe ( Little Demon ) is believed to exist by a lot of black cultures they are supposed to be very short almost dwarf like, and have supernatural powers like casting spells etc .
Enjoyed the read – Thanks.
Well, that was scary. Especially Springheel Jack and the Shadow People. I won't sleep well tonight…
Yes even Santa Claus is real trust me…!!
I like the abundance of 'glowing red eyes' in this list ll.
None of these are real, by the way. People just like to convince themselves that they are by matching up their own experiences with the MYTH. Also, 'Atmospheric Beasts' sound too much like pokemon to be taken seriously.
people saw things they couldnt explain so they told people what they thought they saw or what was easiest to explain what they saw
Good list but written poorly.
good list, and the writing was good enough. people who submit lists don't have to be engaging novelists, just get their point across without too many grammar/spelling mistakes to distract from the content.
it met those standards, i understood everything that he said.
#6 Shadow People-
Reminds me of the video game Metro 2033, scary! haha
And when you start to hallucinate in F.E.A.R 2! Creepy dark shadows lurking around which eventually run at you if you don't pop a bullet into them!
i believe in shadow people i had a scary experience with one
I thought shadow people basically are the same thing as ghosts and poltergeists.
I'm a shadow person. If you don't believe me, just look at my picture.
Stop scaring me, man!
I would love to see another list of cryptids that have been proven to exist; there are a surprising amount out there.
Here ya' go: http://listverse.com/2010/04/16/10-beasts-that-us…
Thank you very much, I must have had a non-thinking moment
how do people know what an atmospheric beast feels like?
lolol, atmospheric beast. I love that name.
they dont people just like to show off by lying about touching mystical creatures and "surviving"
WOW people create such retarded things, shadow man seriously???
Oh C'mon! Is no one going to state the obvious about the Shadow People? "Shadow People" is just another name for the Vashta Nerada!

"Hey! who turned out the lights?"
I think I love you ^-^
inmy favorite book series (SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT!!!) the is a caracter called springheeled jack. he is much like it is described in this list, and i first saw it in another list. i think the author took that legend, added some things, then added it into his story.
there’s quite a few other cryptids, such as the “Jersey Devil”.
good list,I love this type of weird stuff(not that I believe in it though)
Nice and Yawnworthy..!!
BTW oh yeah Pongo looks “real”
well, nice list and i enjoyed it thoroughly… but i found #1 a letdown… was expecting something more power packed… but still a very very good list.
The author said the list was in no particular order…
Wow, I thought that the Chupacabras was an invention of Salinas de Gortari, former Mexican president, to distract us of the fact that we were going straight into a big economical crisis (the one in 1994), but it seems that the legend is quite popular out there as well.
I have seen all of them and they are just mutated humans they live in NY underground
Lots of them are the result of confirmation bias- people believe in these creatures, so they interpret what they see (like a log floating in Loch Ness) as confirmation of what they already 'know'.
