This is a list of entheogens – which, according to Wikipedia are: in the strictest sense, psychoactive substances used in a religious or shamanic context. Plants and herbs have been used for many centuries in religious contexts due to their mind altering nature. In recent times many have been taken up by the “casual drug user” as a cheap alternative to chemical based drugs.
If you have had any experiences with the following plants, be sure to tell us about it in the comments – we are always interested in hearing about our readers experiences in areas like this. So, onward, the list:
Active Constituents: Ergoline alkaloids
This is a species of morning glory native to the New World tropics, and widely cultivated and naturalized elsewhere.
The seeds have been used for centuries by many Mexican Native American cultures as an hallucinogen; they were known to the Aztecs as ‘tlitliltzin’, the Nahuatl word for “black”. Their traditional use by Mexican Native Americans was first discovered in 1941, brought to light in a report documenting use going back to Aztec times. It was reported in 1960 that the seeds of Ipomoea tricolor were used as sacraments by certain Zapotecs, sometimes in conjunction with the seeds of Rivea corymbosa, another species which has a similar chemical composition. Hallucinations are the predominant effect after ingesting morning glory seeds. Vivid visual and tactile hallucinations, as well as increased awareness of colors have been described.
Active Constituents: Ibotenic acid
The quintessential image of an hallucinogenic ‘toadstool’, with it’s red cap and white spots. This fungus is native to birch, pine, spruce, fir and cedar woodlands throughout the temperate and boreal regions of the Northern Hemisphere. These mushrooms were widely used as a hallucinogenic drug by many of the indigenous peoples of Siberia. In western Siberia, the use of A. muscaria was restricted to shamans, who used it as an alternate method of achieving a trance state. In the east, A. muscaria was used by both shamans and common people alike, recreationally as well as religiously. Unlike the hallucinogenic mushrooms of the Psilocybe, Amanita muscaria has been rarely consumed recreationally in modern times. Depending on habitat and the amount ingested per body weight, effects can range from nausea and twitching to drowsiness, auditory and visual distortions, mood changes, euphoria, relaxation, and loss of equilibrium. Amnesia frequently results following recovery.

Active Constituents: Atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine
Native to either India or Central America, it was used as a mystical sacrament in both possible places of origin. The Native Americans have used this plant in sacred ceremonies. The sadhus of Hinduism also used it as a spiritual tool, smoked with cannabis in traditional pipes.
In the United States it is called Jimson Weed, Hell’s Bells (based on the flowers’ shape) or Jamestown Weed. It got this name from the town of Jamestown, Virginia, where British soldiers were secretly (or accidentally) drugged with it, while attempting to suppress Bacon’s Rebellion. They spent several days generally appearing to have gone insane, and failed at their mission. The effects have been described as a living dream: consciousness falls in and out, people who don’t exist or are miles away are conversed with, etc, and the effects can last for days. It may be described as a “real” trance when a user under the effect can be awake but completely disconnected from his immediate environment.
Active Constituents: Thujone
Native to temperate regions of Europe, Asia and northern Africa, the religious association with this plant began with its strong association with the Ancient Greek moon goddess Artemis. In Hellenistic culture, Artemis was a goddess of the hunt, and protector of the forest and children. It is perhaps more famously known as the key ingredient in Absinthe, the favorite drink of 19th Century Bohemian artists. The most commonly reported Absinthe experience is a ‘clear-headed’ feeling of inebriation — a form of ‘lucid drunkenness’.
Active Constituents: Kavalactones
An ancient crop of the western Pacific. The word ‘kava’ is used to refer both to the plant and the beverage produced from it. Kava is used for medicinal, religious, political, cultural and social purposes throughout the Pacific. These cultures have a great respect for the plant and place a high importance on it. The drink is used to this day at social gatherings to relax after work, though it has great religious significance, and is used to obtain inspiration. The effects of the drink (it is also occasionally chewed), in order of appearance, are slight tongue and lip numbing; mildly talkative and sociable behavior, clear thinking, calming effects, relaxed muscles, and a very euphoric sense of well-being.
Active Constituents: Diterpenoid known as “Salvinorin A”
Salvia divinorum is native to certain areas in the Sierra Mazateca of Oaxaca, Mexico, where it is still used by the Mazatec Indians, primarily to facilitate shamanic visions in the context of curing or divination. Shamans crush the leaves to extract leaf juices; they usually mix these juices with water to create an infusion or ‘tea’ which they drink to induce visions in ritual healing ceremonies.
Salvia can be chewed, smoked, or taken as a tincture to produce experiences ranging from uncontrollable laughter to much more intense and profoundly altered states. The duration when smoked is much shorter than for some other more well-known psychedelics, and Salvia typically last for only a few minutes. The most commonly reported after-effects include an increased feeling of insight and improved mood, and a sense of calmness and increased sense of connection with nature.
Active Constituents: Psilocybin and psilocin
Psilocybin mushrooms have been part of human culture as far back as the earliest recorded history. Ancient paintings of ‘mushroomed’ humanoids dating to 5,000 B.C. have been found in caves of Northern Algeria. Central and Southern America cultures built temples to mushroom gods and carved “mushroom stones”, dated to as early as 1000-500 B.C. Psilocybian mushrooms were used in ritual and ceremony among the Aztecs, served with honey or chocolate at some of their holiest events. The experience of ingestion is typically inwardly oriented, with strong visual and auditory components. Visions and revelations may be experienced, and the effect can range from exhilarating to distressing.
Active Constituents: Phenethylamine alkaloids, principally Mescaline
From early records (specimens from Texas have dated from 3780 to 3660 BC), peyote has been used by indigenous peoples, such as the Huichol of northern Mexico and by various Native American tribal groups, native to or relocated to the Southern Plains States of Oklahoma and Texas. Peyote and its associated religion, however, are fairly recent in terms of usage and practice among tribes in the Southwestern United States; Their acquisition of the peyote religion and use of peyote can be firmly dated to the early 20th Century. Typically consumed as a tea, the effects last about 10 to 12 hours. When combined with appropriate setting, peyote is reported to trigger states of deep introspection and insight, described as being of a metaphysical or spiritual nature. At times, these can be accompanied by rich visual or auditory effects.
Active Constituents: Beta-carboline harmala alkaloids, MAOIs and DMT (dimethyltryptamine)
Includes BOTH Ayahuasca Vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) & Chacruna Shrub (Psychotria viridis). The word “Ayahuasca”, translated to “vine of the souls”, refers to a medicinal and spiritual drink incorporating the above plants. When brewed together, and consumed in a ceremonial setting, these plants are capable of producing profound mental, physical and spiritual effects. Ayahuasca is mentioned in the writings of some of the earliest missionaries to South America. It may be considered as a particular shamanic medicinal brew, or even as an entire medicinal tradition specific to the Amazonas. The effects of the drink vary greatly based on the potency of the batch, and the setting of the ritual. They generally include hallucinogenic visions, the exact nature of which seem unique to each user. Vomiting can be an immediate side-effect, and is said to aid in “purification”.
Active Constituents: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)
The cannabis plant has an ancient history of ritual usage as a trance-inducing drug and is found in pharmacological cults around the world. In India, it has been engaged by itinerant sadhus (ascetics) for centuries, and in modern times the Rastafari movement has embraced it. Some historians and etymologists have claimed that cannabis was used as a religious sacrament by ancient Jews, early Christians, and Muslims of the Sufi order. Elders of the modern religious movement known as the Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church consider cannabis to be the Eucharist, claiming it as an oral tradition from Ethiopia dating back to the time of Christ. Cannabis plants produce a group of chemicals called cannabinoids which produce mental and physical effects when consumed. As a drug it usually comes in the form of dried buds or flowers (marijuana), resin (hashish), or various extracts collectively known as hashish oil. The psychoactive effects of cannabis, are subjective and can vary based on the individual. Some effects may include a general change in consciousness (altered perception), mild euphoria, feelings of well-being, relaxation or stress reduction, lethargy, joviality, enhanced recollection of episodic memory, increased sensuality, increased awareness of sensation, and occasionally paranoia, agitation or anxiety.

great list!
and i hope peter cottontail hasn’t been hanging around any cute fly agaric mushrooms lately in the forest!
Nice list, it’s interesting to read some of the histories behind the plants, rather than just their effects. I wasn’t expected ***** to be up there, but looking back it was quite an obvious one to have on.
cool list!
Funny thing…I use several of these substances religiously too
Whoa…wormwood? Yikes Revelation 8:10-11.
No surprise ***** is here. Nice list.
Peyote causes non-stop vomiting for several hours before the trance state is achieved. (Or so I’ve been told)
***** in india is smoked by sadhus especially the devotees of lord shiva. Its also grinded and prepared as a drink along with milk. This drink (also known as thandhaai ) is drunk by all types of people (including women and children also) during the festival of holi. Its fully legal in india (upto a certain quantity). It grows everywhere as weed, also along the roadside. So it actually very cheap.
Wow, that was really interesting, I didn’t know the histories between most of the plants here.
All Absinthe did to us was get us extreeeemely drunk very quickly, and much more euphoric than usual, but it’s interesting you say that the psychoactive effects of ***** are subjective, because one time with my two best friends, I was in a very very talkative and semi-psychotic mood, so I was quite happy just talking about what was going on in my head, my best friend started absolutely freaking out, and my other mate was feeling artistic, so he drew my story combined with my friends panic. It remains my favourite artwork of his ever! But it’s definitely true, everyone experiences different things.
I generally don’t like religion, but if let’s you use this stuff sign me up!
Isn’t the amanita mushroom potentially deadly?! As in it can kill you?
Eating peyote buttons can cause vomiting. Maybe the article suggests drinking it in tea because it’s easier to keep down?
The salvia sounds interesting. No mention of any adverse side effects. I wonder if the local garden store carries it? ;D
Back in the day, I … oh, never mind.
wait, *****? weed? its used for religious purposes? wow. What happens, do they all just get really hungry for doritos and go on a spirit run for them?
well I don’t like religion very much but if I can use weed, sign me up!
There was a Jewish neuroscientist who discovered that ancient Jews used a psychoactive drug that caused hallucinations. He tested it on modenr subjects and they experienced visions that were similar to OT stories, such as bushes bursting into flames and stars falling from the sky, and he deduced that many OT stories were just drug induced visions. Of course he was castigated by Jews everywhere. I can’t remember his name but there was an interview with him in last week’s Financial Times magazine.
Well gee whiz, if I’d only known. I grow some of this stuff in my garden.
I’m not sure if the picture is correct but here we call #8 (Jimson Weed) Gabriel’s Trumpet. For obvious reasons. It grows well in my yard. As does wormwood (silver mound), and Morning glorys, both varieties. I also grow opium poppies. A veritable psychopharmacy. This will not be one of the lists I choose the educate the boys with.
Seriously, having done mushrooms, they are not my cup of tea, I really have no desire to try anything that grows in my garden.
Now if you could get me some Kava seeds, I think it would be an awesome compliment to my personal favorite herb (#1 of course). And I could grow it without concern for the teenagers in my household (the reason I don’t grow #1); they wouldn’t know what it was.
ps: Salvia was just recently made a controlled substance here, you could buy it at the corner store up until a few months ago. My eldest tried it (smoked), didn’t like it at all. I will trust his judgement.
I have tried a few of these (I’m a college student…so sue me
)…Morning Glory, Salvia, Psilocybin Mushrooms, and *****. Morning Glory produces a really crazy trip, the colour blue is intensified, and there are hours of pleasant hallucinations…………..after the initial hours of vomiting and blinding pain. No pain no gain though, eh? Salvia Divinorum contains the most potent natually-occuring hallucinogen and as such, is a pretty wild ride. I have found that it is far more subjective than any ***** trip. Smoking salvia with friends, I have found that it has always affected me far more strongly than my friends. They have most often felt very “stoned” similar to how one would feel on *****, however sometimes with some visual oddities (colours, shimmering, etc). However, I have never had anything but a full on out of body crrrrrazy experience. I would completely disagree with the “increased feeling of insight and improved mood, and a sense of calmness and increased sense of connection with nature” as after-effects – at least for me. Usually I’m just kind of sweaty and don’t really understand what just happened. Magic Mushrooms can give a slightly euphoric, giggly feeling (small doses) or can totally push you over the edge and make you have crazy hallucinatory experiences in large doses. Also, as this is a list about substances used in religious experiences, I would add that out of all of the drugs I have tried, Magic Mushrooms is far and away the closest thing to a revelatory experience I, or any of my friends, has ever had. THERE you really feel a connection to nature, and often think of very profound things (or at least these ideas seem very profound at the time). And then there’s weed. I’m sure you’ve all smoked it. Hope that was slightly informative!
…So your telling me theres a religion out there… in which I… could smoke weed all day… and NOT get arrested?!
HOW COME I HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS UNTIL TODAY.
“If you have had any experiences with the following plants, be sure to tell us about it in the comments – we are always interested in hearing about our readers experiences in areas like this.”
NO! Don’t confess anything, man! Or you’ll get busted by the DEA!
Fight the Power!
hooray! no crazed DEA in Canada!
For some strange reason, whenever i smoke weed i seem to be a much better swimmer.
very cool?
CRob…
No crazed DEA in Canada? Tell that to Marc Emory.
For those who don’t know the story, Marc Emory is a high-profile (pun intended) Canadian ***** activist who ran a seed bank in Vancouver. It’s legal to sell seeds in Canada as they have no THC. He paid his taxes, and ran an above-board operation in all respects.
Then the DEA discovered that some American growers may have sourced their seeds in Vancouver. So they convinced the Canadian government that he was one of the most dangerous drug traffickers in the world, the Mounties promptly rolled over and arrested him, and then the DEA started working on extradition.
They handed two of his employees hefty charges, then told Emory that these charges would evaporate if he didn’t fight the extradition.
So now he’s facing a decade in prison, because he ran a legal business in Canada, and some Americans bought seeds in Vancouver, then smuggled them into the USA.
And, by the way, the DEA has an office in Ottawa.
Oh, one last thing. You know this “War on Drugs” you Americans are waging?
The Drugs are winning.
the drugs won long ago, and the biggest loser was our constitution
yes its true . You can smoke ganja and eat ***** all day and ya won’t get arrested in india. Most of the tourist in india are interested in there only. Here they get very cheap weeds and they enjoy. Its actually not related to religion anyway but i dunno why it has become a tradition. But its just limited to the sadhus.
Drugs are winning?
So stickin’ it to THE MAN has finally paid off!
Groovy…
Salvia is one of the craziest drugs I have ever smoked. It is legal where I live(Ireland)- well just has not been made illegal yet!! Because it was legal I assumed it was a light hazy stoned effect similar to cannibis but it is a million times stronger. I didnt know who or what I was for about five minutes although at the time it seemed like an eternity. Use with caution!! Surprised that ayahuasca (the plant DMT is derived from) was not in the list. It was used by shamans in South America for hundreds of years and there still is a big community r=of religious users. Anyhow great list thanks a bunch!
I didn’t know Salvia was considered a drug. lol. I have seeds that I was going to plant this year but the frost was hell to deal with.
as a highschool student ive been around a good amount of these and as a drug user have used a couple of these the moring glory seeds are kinda of interesting seeing as how a class at my school planted them for a science project and everyone was confused when the entire paper bag they were in went missing also salvia is a pretty popular drug around here to ive used it and i can honestly say i will never use it again unless im going to be with a sober person
i’ve tried salvia and it’s something i never want to meddle with ever again. i had like visions, and then i was really down and depressed for the rest of the day.
most morning glory seeds that you can buy today are treated so that they don’t cause the effects described here. also, most of these other substances have horrible side effects (so i hear) so anyone looking for a cheap legal high should probably look elsewhere….haha
and we all know the war on drugs is a joke
SAY NO TO DRUGS…these plants r no less than it…. it makes sane people INSANE… I dunno abt religions etc. bt seriusly we teens ought to stay out of it….
Csimmons/Bass: Sooo…you’ve never heard of Rastafarianism…? Hmm.
Don’t plan on being a Rasta any time soon…not if you’re white anyway. I seem to recall something about the white man being the devil.
Salvia is an interesting one. I didn’t know it was used in religious ceremonies, though I’m not surprised. Me and some friends actually ordered the stuff over the internet which I thought was hilarious (and we live in the US). I would really like to try it again but the first time was weird. I felt like I was spinning really really fast, not like having the spins when you drink, it wasn’t a sick feeling, it was just like I was spinning.
I could go into great detail about mushrooms, but that would take forever. Basically the entire world comes alive and starts breathing. I mean trees, the ground, walls, etc., everything starts breathing. Me and some friends have had some really great times with mushrooms on a few occations.
Weed… I smoke weed as often as I read this site (everyday). Safest thing on this list and definitely a good way to wind down the day.
The after-effects listed for salvia is completely the opposite of how I felt after smoking it. Wonky, dizzy, naseaus, tired, HOT (oh my god, your body temp goes through the roof…literally sweating buckets in a cool room), and in a considerably worse mood than before I smoked it. I don’t really recommend salvia to anyone except experienced psychonauts…I’ve seen people do some pretty scary things on salvia. It’s extremely intense.
So many fancy words and complicated sentences in this list just to say:
“Dude, you are gonna get SOOO high with these.”
Kreachure: Nicely put xD
The only “dangerous” drug in this list is Amanita, on large doses it´s deadly, the others bear no risk for the user other than running into a psychotic state and doing some stupid thing.
Once me and some friends had 200 seeds of Morning Glory each, which are called “semillas de la virgen” (virgin seeds) down here in Mexico, we experienced extremely strong visions one of them turned the bed where we were sitting into a raft over a sea of lava.
We lost record of our acts and one of my friends was retrieved to the hotel by the local authorities since he was walking nude through town!
Hehe we had a great time.
morning glory seeds. wasted an entire summer on those. similar to LSD in chemical composition. just makes you nauseous for a while and then ridiculously high. the upset stomach is most likely onset by the anti-fungal spray distributors apply. that is my theory anyhow.
I had a botanist friend who told me most things can be be intoxicating if prepared correctly. He cited as an example, because it was at hand, nutmeg. Apparently a heaping tablespoon of nutmeg stirred into a a cup of boiling water will get you stoned off your ass for three days. I didn’t believe him so I tried it, and for three days I was barely able to maintain consciousness. I wouldn’t recommend it.
el duderino: Injected (intraveinious) nutmeg is actually toxic! Be warned any how try it!
And I’m the first person I know of who pukes black stuff after I smoke “The Weed.” Weird hallucinations too. I stick to the drink now.
Absinthe they have recently found to cause no more hallucinations than alcohol of the same proof… http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/080429-absinthe-effects.html... Maybe they will legalize it (the original formula) in america. Tasty, I like Pernod and all but it’s not the same.
Mom424: If I find any Jimsom weed in my yard you can have it. I don’t even want to brush my leg by the stuff, Too many bad stories. ps: You Rock!
…Free your mind, Man!
Salvia was a very weird experience. It only lasts about two minutes, but those two minutes are INTENSE. You feel like you can’t move, and everything you see is like melting together and twirling about. I got a headache afterwards, though, but I don’t know if that is normal.
Do NOT mess with Jimson Weed (also known as loco weed). Three kids from my city had to go to hospital after smoking Jimson, where they suffered from three days of intense convulsions and one fell into a week-long coma and nearly died. I don’t care if the indians used it, it is dangerous.
About Kava — I would love to get my hands on some — it is apparently being marketed to the Aborigines in Australia as an alternative to alcohol (like many indigenous populations around the world, alcoholism is rampant) because it doesn’t make you violent, just pleasantly stoned. I heard it tastes like sick, though.
Everything you wanted to know and everything you had no clue about! http://www.erowid.org Very choice info.
Being a uni student i have also dabbled in a few of these. I’ve gotta agree with the general consensus about Salvia, that drug is crazy. I bought a 10x version from an internet herbal site and it was so intense it was scary. I wouldn’t ever describe myself as a “pro” but I thought I’d be able to handle it and experience a few mild effects then return to normal. This did not happen.
You can feel your body spinning and it is as if you are losing control of your entire body, it crazy, in a bad way, even though I knew I was fine it must have triggered some hormone which was overwhelming my body with fear and leaving me to feel paralysed. It’s hard to describe but id sum it up as an unpleasant feeling of being out of control of your body not like the euphoria experienced from THC related drugs.
Any way crazy drug, only wish my body had a better tolerance for it then i might be able to get some more desirable effects out of it!
My birth family is Native American so the first time I met them we had some peyote. I honestly had no idea what it was until a few years later when it was explained to me that it was a drug. I didn’t vomit at all, but I didn’t really like the taste either. My exhusband and an exboyfriend used to get together all the time and eat mushrooms. I never have done it, but I did get a little jealous… until the fed some to my cat. Poor thing had a perma grin. I wanted to kill them both. And ***** was quite a part of my life until my daughter was born. I see nothing wrong with it. I’ve seen people throw up and pass out from smoking *****, but I’ve never had it happen to me. Maybe I just have a higher tolerance?
I’ve tried almost all of these. Most of them are pretty unpleasant, but then again, most of them are legal too.
10- It was more like being sick. everything turned a strange yellow hue and i threw up pretty violently a couple times. I tried it again afterwards and felt no effects.
9- I don’t think i got a very potent sample of this. It was just like being really high.
8- this stuff looks pretty dangerous so i’ve never tried it.
7- I drank absinithe before. It tastes pretty horrible, but it’s pretty much just being drunk.
6- it’s like a light coke buzz. this is one i’d definitely do again.
5- You can get a very similar and much more pleasant experience with DMT. It makes you trip and laugh like crazy. My one friend took a good size hit and spent 10 minutes falling down, sitting back up and saying “WEEEE”. I’ve tried the 5, 10, 15, 20 and 40x. 15 is probably my favorite.
4- I took 4 grams once and felt like I had like 15 personalties and would be each personality for a few seconds and then move on to the next. At the end of the night I was crying in the back of my friends car scratching myself ecstatically on the rough upholstery. Stick with a low dose on these…
3- oh my god it tastes so so so bad it is the worst thing you will ever eat. Unfortunately, it didn’t do much to me either. A gentle rushing feeling, similar to amphetamines, and some light visuals- I felt like i was getting bigger and smaller, but nothing really intense.
2- I’ve smoked pure DMT with a MAOI, which would produce the same effects as this plant only more intense and shorter lasting. Excellent experience. It hits you like a train, and for 5 minutes you don’t really know whats going. The trip feels really significant and i’ve spent a long time just thinking about what i saw. Its very difficult to describe. i don’t think i’ll try it again until i understand it a bit better.
1- everybody knows what this does, it makes you hungry happy and sleepy.
Well, with all that being said you may think i’m some crazy addict living in some cabin in the woods. I’m actually a pretty well-adjusted normal guy. I make good grades, have a busy schedule a job and a fiance. Drugs are great, it’s addiction and withdrawal thats bad. So, use your head and take small doses and don’t do it everyday. Also, research what you’re about to do before you do it.
I have done numbers 7 6 5 4 1. I am doing 1 now. It helps ease stomach troubles as well as stress. I have a horrid tummy and this mellows it right out! I have had 7 in absinth.
I have had number 6 several times. I lived in Hawaii for a while. It is brewed as a bitter tea to aid in relaxation. It is chewed for the numbing affect for mouth and tooth pain. I did number 5 two times only. It tastes like fish oil and messed with my noggin. Not to happy. I did not care it cost $50usd I trashed it. It was so yucky tasting and just WIERD! It was like a quick acid trip that lasted about 4-5 min. *shudders* Not again. I have done number 4 a few times. I got the giggles and did not want clothing on. *snickers* It was kinda fun.
Morning Glory and ***** did not mix well at all when I tried it.
Never Cross Buzz!!!
Weird, 1 is the only one I’ve ever tried, but the effects were so much more intense than I expected! I felt my heart pounding a mile a minute and was overcome by fear, like I was having a panic attack. There was also a feeling of not being myself anymore and seeing all the words coming out of my mouth. I was so stoned, I couldn’t even eat anything when my friend took me to Denny’s haha. Maybe it’s just because it was my first time? Has anyone else experienced something like that from it?
other than the puking, I guess I’ll explain why I don’t smoke any more:
This (A) is the conversation that we are having, lets say three people.
This (B) is what I am hearing in my head (A).
(A) then goes on it’s marry way the way chit chat does.
However (B) in my head goes elsewhere (C).
Later in conversation (A), I decide to put my two cents in and say something that is going on on my head (C).
Keep in mind (A) and (C) are two Entirely different conversations.
So now not only am I stoned out of my gourd but now I get to deal with the paranoia that goes with smoking (W) and not just playing pokemon like I should have been doing after toke (4).
The nick name “One Hit Wonder Boy” is not something I like having.
Drugs are bad people, mmmkay?
u think? cuz i dont!
Wow, I had no idea there were so many potheads on here. Am I the only one who’s never done any drugs?
no,you have, im sure you've been drunk before
Dilemma; The active ingredient in ***** (THC and related cannabinoids)causes relaxation and happiness and hunger in small doses (you do develop a resistance, so for me not so small
), but causes anxiety and paranoia in larger doses or in susceptible people. You either had bomb weed or you are intolerant. Either way I don’t council anyone to smoke weed. If you decide to try again, don’t smoke too much and make sure you are in a comfortable setting. (NOT hiding behind the mall!)
And for goodness sake be at least close to a grown-up.
Dilemma; I meant your age, not that you be next to your mom. Not very clear, was I.
islanderbst; as long as you include alcohol in your rather broad statement, I will have no argument.
The only drug mentioned here (apart from alcohol, which after being really drunk during one sylvester night I decided not to do again and smoking), was #1. I smoked it on several occassions (about half a dozen times) with different concentrations. The feeling was quite nice and intense apart from quite a bad feeling in my throat and having to forcefully swallow as if I had some serious cough. I felt highly euphoric and music seemed to cause intense feelings of well-being to me. I felt quite lazy during that time, I have to admit, sometimes not even having the desire to sit up straight. The most impressive feeling I had, though, was the impression of a highly distorted timeline. The last three seconds seemed to be part of the normal timeline for me, everything what happened before seemed to be really, really far in the past, as if it happened years before.
All in all it was quite nice and during that six or so times I used it, I never really had bad feelings, still it’s nothing I’d need all day and I stopped doing it years ago.
I don’t think anyone has commented on the Jimson weed (Datura). For the record, as I saw someone post about amanitas as being the only harmful drug on this list, datura is the drug of all drugs. This is the one drug that should never be touched, regardless of whether you want to do it or not. You can overdose and die on datura, it’s a poison, and also gives the most vivid and crazy trips, along with the possibility of BAD side effects for days, even weeks. I have never heard of anyone liking that they did datura. I haven’t seen anyone post it, so, if you want more information about any of these drugs, go to http://www.erowid.org. The site gives great info about laws, doses, effects, and even experiences from many users in the Experience section. Stay safe and if you decide to explore, be informed.
I haven’t tried most of these.
=/
What I have tried, which was seriously hilarious. Was nutmeg. Nutmeg, the kitchen spice is a mild hallucinogen. It’s weird to think your little corner supermarket will stock it.
But Peyote I find interesting. Unfortunately because of over-gathering it’s now like finding hen’s teeth, IN A HAYSTACK! That’s got to be hard.
Well, I’ve tried ***** on more than one occassion, as I’m sure many of you have, and I’m sure many people have shared their psilocybin shroom and salvia experiences, but I’m guessing most people haven’t tried ayahuasca. I was in Peru about a month ago, and I had the opportunity to try this, and it was an interesting experience. First off, the taste was absolutely vile, but I think I had a very potent batch. I threw up shortly after drinking then dazed out in my chair. Then I stood up and walked to the other side of the room. Upon turning around, I saw myself still sitting in the chair, except there was a transparent cylinder keeping me from moving in any direction. The standing me was then trapped in a similar tube. Violently thrashing to get out of the tube, I woke up and fell out of the chair, and that was the end of it. They say the beverage is meant to help you face your fears, and I guess since I get quite claustrophobic and fear isolation, the drink showed me trapped and alone. It was not enjoyable, but worth the experience.
all i know is salvia is really weird! we bought some from a bong shop (im in uk) and a bunch of us smoked it (not me, i freak out at trippy drugs), everyone was just kinda weird and one guy thought he was the pattern in the wallpaper and just ran at the wall! everyone else just felt weird and trippy, like mildish acid, but we were advised that at least one person stay sober and keep there eye on things cause it gets super intense! Its all legal over here too!
I’ve had experience with several-
a. muscaria- did nothing for me.
jimson weed- I won’t touch, heard too many horror stories (It grows wild here in Iowa, BTW)
wormwood- absinthe is pleasurable
kava- a nice, gentle sedative, easy and legal to buy online
salvia- probably the most powerful hallucinogen known to man. I have a supply that I’m afraid of.
psylocibin- absolutely divine.
*****- who hasn’t?
jfrater- BTW, there are several different plants that can be used to make ayahuasca. b. caapi and p. viridis are common, but also syrian rue, mimosa hostilis, and others have been known to be included.

Oh, and you missed an absolutely HUGE religious drug.
Iboga is used by certain African tribes to transcend. It’s chewed and after you’ve had it, you feel a very different person.

I know I’m about the dozenth person to comment that salvia is crazy… I somehow managed to get off the bed I was sitting on, down the hall and down a flight of stairs on my stomach with my arms apparently self-pinned behind my back. I thought I was in a kiddy’s show and the evil hosts were dragging me down the number four. I was screaming help ion my hallucination, but all anyone heard was a few incoherent noises. As for weed, we have a saying in Northern Ontario (but it’s probably an American thing too) Smoke Weed Everyday, and ye shall observe the sabbath day and hour: 4:20. Amen to that!!!
