Another 10 Conspiracy Theories
Published on February 18, 2008 - 164 Comments
Following on from our popular Top 10 Conspiracy Theories list, we are now presenting you with another 10. While the theories on this list may not be as well known as the first list, I think many of them are a lot more interesting. So, without further ado, another 10 conspiracy theories.
10. Paul is Dead

“Paul is dead” is an urban legend alleging that Paul McCartney of the British rock band The Beatles died in 1966 and was replaced by a look-alike and sound-alike. Evidence for McCartney’s death consists of “clues” found among the Beatles’ many recordings, most of which are treated as if they were deliberately placed by The Beatles or others. Literally hundreds have been cited at various times by various people. They include statements allegedly heard when a song is played backwards, symbolism found in obscure lyrics, and ambiguous imagery on album covers. A few of them are well known, such as the fact that McCartney is the only barefooted Beatle and is out of step with the others on the cover of Abbey Road.
9. Pan Am Flight 103

Pan Am Flight 103 was Pan American World Airways’ third daily scheduled transatlantic flight from London’s Heathrow International Airport to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. On Wednesday December 21, 1988, the aircraft flying this route—a Boeing 747-121 named Clipper Maid of the Seas—was destroyed by a bomb. The remains landed in and around the town of Lockerbie in southern Scotland. A theory for which no evidence has been produced suggests that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had set up a protected drug route from Europe to the United States—allegedly called Operation Corea—which allowed Syrian drug dealers, led by Monzer al-Kassar (who was involved with Oliver North in the Iran-Contra scandal) to ship heroin to the U.S. using Pan Am flights, in exchange for intelligence on Palestinian groups based in Syria. The CIA allegedly protected the suitcases containing the drugs and made sure they were not searched. On the day of the bombing, as the theory goes, terrorists exchanged suitcases: one with drugs for one with a bomb. Another version of this theory is that the CIA knew in advance this exchange would take place, but let it happen anyway, because the protected drugs route was a rogue operation, and the American intelligence officers on PA 103 – Matthew Gannon and Maj. Charles McKee – had found out about it, and were on their way to Washington to tell their superiors.
8. Peak Oil is a Lie

There are theories that the “Peak Oil” concept is a fraud concocted by the oil industries to increase prices amid concerns about future supplies. The oil industry supposedly is aware of vast reserves of untapped oil, but does not utilize them, so that they can maintain the illusion of artificial scarcity. Parallels are drawn between this and the diamond industry, where it is recognized that a monopoly cabal maintain an illusion of artificial scarcity of diamonds, in order to increase their value.
7. AIDS is Manmade

There are claims that AIDS is a man-made disease (i.e. created by scientists in a laboratory). Some of these theories allege that HIV was created by a conspiratorial group or by a secretive agency such as the CIA. It is thought to have been created as a tool of genocide and/or population control. Other theories suggest that the virus was created as an experiment in biological and/or psychological warfare, and then escaped into the population at large by accident. Some who believe that HIV was a government creation see a precedent for it in the Tuskegee syphilis study, in which government-funded researchers deceptively denied treatment to black patients infected with a sexually transmitted disease. It has been claimed that the CIA deliberately administered the HIV virus to African Americans and homosexuals in the 1970s, via tainted hepatitis vaccinations. Groups such as the New Black Panther Party and Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam assert that this was part of a plan to destroy the black race. Others claim that it was administered in Africa as a way of crippling the development of that continent.
6. Water Fluoridation

Fluoride is commonly added to drinking water in the United States and other countries. It is usually justified by drawing attention to the positive benefits to teeth, reducing tooth decay. There is evidence to suggest that fluoridating the water supply may be harmful for those using it, particularly children. There are conspiracy theories that this information is known and recognised by those responsible for adding the fluoride, but that they continue the practice regardless. Drug companies have been targetted as possible beneficiaries, as they will profit from a population with ill-health. Another motive that has been suggested relates to the evidence suggesting that fluoride lowers mental ability: that fluoridation is, by design, used to “dumb down” the population.
5. Drug Company Deceptions

A popular conspiracy theory suggests that drug companies are intentionally not producing cures for a variety of diseases (such as AIDS and cancer) because they profit so heavily from the drugs used to treat the symptoms of these illnesses. Additionally, other medical conspiracies charge that the pharmaceutical companies are in league with some medical practicioners to ‘invent’ new diseases, such as ADD, ADHD in order to increase the userbase of their medications. While most people consider the drug companies to be the primary drivers in this deception, some believe that there is also government involvement due to tax revenues.
4. Chemtrails

The Chemtrail conspiracy theory claims that some trails left behind jet aircraft are different in appearance and quality from those of normal contrails, may be composed of harmful chemicals, and are being deliberately produced, and covered up by the government. These unusual trails are referred to as “chemtrails” (a portmanteau of “chemical trails”). The term specifically refers to systematic, high-altitude dumping of unknown substances for undisclosed purposes, resulting in the appearance of these unusual contrails. Chemtrail advocates say these trails are often laid down in patterns, such as grids, Xs and crosshatches.
3. The Everlasting Light Bulb

Almost since the beginning of the light bulb there have been theories that state that technology relating to an everlasting light bulb is being suppressed in order to keep a strong hold on the profit margins of the bulb manufacturers. This theory has been given some weight due to the Phoebus Cartel which was a cartel of, among others, Osram, Philips and General Electric from December 23, 1924 until 1939 that existed to control the manufacture and sale of light bulbs. The cartel reduced competition in the light bulb industry for almost twenty years. The cartel has featured in fictional works which makes the line between fact and fiction difficult to discern.
2. Iraq - a War for Oil

In recent times, wars in the Middle East such as the Gulf War and the invasion of Iraq have been described as wars for oil. In many cases, critics have accused the U.S. of engaging in realpolitik in the cynical sense of political action without regard for principle or morals. It has been suggested that war is a perfect way of distracting citizens, as an electoral tactic, from difficulties facing the then current administration. This premise is the basis of the film Wag the Dog, and the Orwell novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.
1. The New World Order

This popular conspiracy theory claims that a small group of international elites controls and manipulates governments, industry and media organisations worldwide. The primary tool they use to dominate nations is the system of central banking. They are said to have funded and in some cases caused most of the major wars of the last 200 years, primarily through carrying out false flag attacks to manipulate populations into supporting them, and have a grip on the world economy, deliberately causing inflation and depressions at will. The people behind the New World Order are thought to be international bankers, in particular the owners of the private banks in the Federal Reserve System, Bank of England and other central banks, and members of the Council on Foreign Relations, Trilateral Commission and Bilderberg Group.
Afterword
No one really knows what causes people to become so fascinated with conspiracy theories. What is known, however, is that they can become so popular as to be considered a form of mass hysteria. Use the comments below to tell us if you believe in any of the theories suggested here.

first?
2. stevenh - February 18th, 2008 at 8:26 am
sorry, I hate the ‘first game’, but i couldn’t help it…
3. Mystern - February 18th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Why is the picture for number 2 and 8 the same?
Anyway, Awesome list, as always. I personally am not much of one for conspiracy theories, but some of these seem plausible, like the light bulb, and the drug companies.
4. HandyMandy - February 18th, 2008 at 8:44 am
Ooooh, conspiracies, I love lists like this.
5. Mom424 - February 18th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Number 2 is plausible; Bush certainly benefited and I would be surprised if he didn’t think of that (maybe not him-he’s not the sharpest tack in the box-but his cronies/handlers)before gettin’ all horny for war. That said I don’t believe that to be the primary motivation; Oil and finishing what Daddy Bush started, not WMD as he stated…
Re #4, interesting aside, after 911 and the grounding of commercial flights, the smog level went way down, sunshine went way up…contrails cause lots of the smog, haze, and even rain in California…
6. Mom424 - February 18th, 2008 at 8:47 am
geez I forgot; Great List!, nothin’ better than rampant paranoia!
7. JMurf - February 18th, 2008 at 8:53 am
In fairness we all know it was for oil……..
Surprised a 9/11 theory didn’t pop up, like that loose change theory
8. dangorironhide - February 18th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Conspiracy theories make me lol. Most of them are ridiculous, so I don’t really have time for them.
It would appear one of the themes of ‘Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty’ is based on theory number 1.
9. Mac - February 18th, 2008 at 8:54 am
I don’t believe that Paul is dead, but the extent and depth of so-called “proofs” to support the theory are faintly convincing. It’s a really interesting topic. But I don’t believe it. I just sort of think it would be interesting if true.
But why cover up his death? Think of the merchandising opportunities!
My current favourite conspiracy involves Katie Holmes NOT running the New York marathon, oh mi God!!
10. amoondoo - February 18th, 2008 at 8:58 am
heyyy the paul is dead thing is copied word for word from wikipedia! great list!
11. warrrreagl - February 18th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Jamie, you’re just being kind to me with the inclusion of Paul Is Dead. I love it!
12. SlickWilly - February 18th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Number 6 reminds me of Jack D. Ripper from Dr. Strangelove. His theory was fluoridation of the water was a Soviet conspiracy to render all American men impotent.
Interesting list. “Paul is Dead” was really just a thing the Beatles did to increase record sales (which had to have worked incredibly well, seeing as there are people out there who actually believe it). #5 and #8 are plausible; certainly both industries are enjoying record profits every quarter….it’s kind of a fucked-up time we live in. I don’t believe in the NWO/One-World conspiracy….it just sounds more organized and insidious than I’m willing to give the world’s leaders credit for. I think hubris always has and always will make the idea of a one-world gov’t unlikely.
13. jfrater - February 18th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Mystern: oops - corrected!
amoondoo: I cited Paul is Dead at the bottom of the list
14. BadassBookworm - February 18th, 2008 at 9:06 am
I am NOT one to believe we went into Iraq for oil. However, one must realize that the economic engine of the world is fueld by oil. Think hard about what would happen of the supply of oil were disrupted on a grand scale. And fighting for oil isn’t solely and American idea. Pearl Harbor happened because the Japanese were running low of the black stuff.
15. Sharki - February 18th, 2008 at 9:18 am
I agree with BadassBookworm, if the war was all about oil we would marched in to Saudi Arabia not Iraq. SA has more oil and better refining and extracting infrastructure.
As for #5, if a caner or AIDS vaccine existed everyone on the planet now and forever would want it. That’s billions and billions of people and a never ending stream of income. How exactly is that bad business?
16. Eric - February 18th, 2008 at 9:19 am
the one about drug companies not producing cures for diseases sickens me if true. and i have reason to believe that it very well could be because i recall reading an article a year or so ago where scientists came up with a potential cure for cancer but couldn’t get money to research it from any major drug companies because it was made using generic ingredients that couldnt be copyrighted/trademarked or whatnot so no one company could make money off of it.
17. jake ryder - February 18th, 2008 at 9:25 am
i love conspiracy theorists. they make me feel so sane. surprised no 911 or JFK. Too commonplace maybe?
18. jake ryder - February 18th, 2008 at 9:26 am
sorry just realized it’s “another” list i check out the original before giving my worthless opinion next time.
19. Miss Destiny - February 18th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Conspiracy theories are indeed fascinating, but it kind of disturbs me that there are people out there who get so obsessed with this stuff. I like to read a little bit about it for sure, but I don’t spend too much time thinking about it otherwise.
20. Mom424 - February 18th, 2008 at 10:02 am
Miss Destiny; I have a psycho brother who’s into this crap, and it is scary…It leads to the “it isn’t my fault, everybody’s out to get me” mentality,,,,an excuse for failure
21. skipps - February 18th, 2008 at 10:04 am
“replaced by a look-alike and sound-alike” — Wow, that’s convenient.
22. devilishgrin66 - February 18th, 2008 at 10:06 am
the theory of the everlasting lightbulb isnt just for lightbulbs. its for everything. I think it was a cadillac executive who say “we could make a car that lasts for 50 years but how are we going to profit from that?”…and its true.
so yes, it would benefit us greatly if everything lasted longer, but it would destroy the economy. just look at the stride gum commercials (”please chew another piece!”)
23. SlickWilly - February 18th, 2008 at 10:19 am
I want to agree with devlishgrin. I recently read a couple of Fortune 500 mags my office keeps in the w.c. and many of the articles were dedicated to how to squeeze more money out of the consumer in terms of product longevity and controlling access to competitive products. It’s sad to think that this country’s economy is essentially dependent on shaking out the pockets of an already-shaken consumer base.
24. Blogball - February 18th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Another great list!
I have always been interested in conspiracy theorists and why some people believe some of this stuff. This is not to say that we should believe everything we hear but it just seems to me that common sense should take over at some point.
I guess you might call this my conspiracy theory about conspiracy theorist
1.They were born with conspiracy DNA and can’t help it
2.They can’t face the fact that normal things happen to famous people. (Sh** Happens)
3.They don’t believe in a higher source so they tend to believe in anything
4.Their parents constantly lied to them so now they don’t trust any form
of authority.
5.They were kicked in the head by a unicorn
6.The government has lied to us in the past so now everything the government
does is some kind of vicious plot against them.
7. Paranoia
8.All of the above
9.Everything they are saying is true and I am the most naive person in the world.
25. Lori - February 18th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Also, another observation made concerning the Abbey Road cover is that John is dressed like a preacher, Ringo like a pallbearer, George like the gravedigger and Paul like the man in a coffin.
26. King of the Horizon - February 18th, 2008 at 10:29 am
umm great list and why is there a swastika on the canister of flouride in picture 6?
27. jfrater - February 18th, 2008 at 10:33 am
King of the Horizon: I think it it meant to represent the evil of fluoride in water
I didn’t put it there.
28. devilishgrin66 - February 18th, 2008 at 10:41 am
slickwilly - thats the way the world is. Think about it.
Say company X employs the most people in America. Company Y is second, and they produce completely different things.
Company X produces something that now is everlasting, and they no longer make any money because everyone buys 1 and then never has to buy again. Everyone is now out of business. They now have no money to buy from Company Y. Now company Y is out of business because they don’t have any customers…and so on down the line.
There is a very very thin balance.
29. BHO - February 18th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Theories like those in this list always get me so depressed! Just the thought that people are capable of doing some of these things is enough to make me angry and sad… I need an injection of happy! Why not try a happy and life affirming list J???? Please………
30. SlickWilly - February 18th, 2008 at 10:52 am
devilishgrin: Yes, I’m aware of the repercussions of producing an ever-lasting product. I’m positive it isn’t as simple as you are making it out to be, though, which is why I’m withholding my comments. Economics was never a strong-suit of mine.
31. King of the Horizon - February 18th, 2008 at 10:55 am
i also noticed they got the chemtrail thing in pic 6 as well.thats like 2 conspiracy theory for the price of 1
32. SlickWilly - February 18th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Blogball:
LOL at #9. It’s good to know you’re considering all the options.
33. devilishgrin66 - February 18th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Well yea its a bit more complicated but thats the basic gist. it has to do with supply and demand, inflation, etc. Companies have to grow at the same rate or a higher rate as the rest of the industry otherwise they are considered losing money. im not an econ major but ive taken both macroecon and microecon and thats basically what i can say from that experience.
34. adfg - February 18th, 2008 at 10:59 am
You’re a FUCKING RETARD.
#4 is quite possibly true
#2 is quite possibly true
#1 is quite possibly true
#5 is quite possibly true
#6 Flouride is a byproduct of producing aluminum, and since the production has skyrocketed the producers have needed an outlet and have convinced the water companies to added to your water.
#7 is quite possibly true
# 10 Paul is not dead - LAME way to preface whole expose.
Look this shit up yourself people…I did.
35. Csimmons - February 18th, 2008 at 10:59 am
I hate those people who come up with these theories, they really need to shut up.
36. Csimmons - February 18th, 2008 at 11:01 am
adfg: Paul is dead, give me one reason to support all these theories other than you can’t believe the truth.
37. marcus - February 18th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Do you know the Paul I Alive conspiracy? The source is in Portugues, but I think you will undertand a little.. It’s a very cool conspiracy theory too.
38. Blogball - February 18th, 2008 at 11:15 am
adfg is working for the CIA and is sounding unreasonable on purpose so people won’t really believe
That 4,2,1,5,6 & 7 are really true.
39. BadassBookworm - February 18th, 2008 at 11:21 am
It’s kind of like Penn Gillete said about conspiracy theories: “You know what the answer to all this is? Watergate. They couldn’t cover THAT up. How the hell could they cover up anything else.”
In regards to the drug manufacturing conspiracy…I would think it takes the work of hundreds of people to research and develop treatments and cures let alone the multitudes of others who fund it, oversee it, etc. Don’t you think at least ONE person would, for the good of humanity, spill the beans about a cure for AIDS or Cancer if it exists? I mean…c’mon.
40. lightningclash - February 18th, 2008 at 11:24 am
As far as the war for oil theory goes… it has to be true. Don’t believe me? Rent or buy the film “No end in sight”. Warning: this movie will make you very, very angry. It won a few awards at film festivals and they don’t give those to documentaries that aren’t well researched and truthful.
41. colin syme - February 18th, 2008 at 11:29 am
If Paul is a fake, l am afraid he will die again, this time it will be “death by divorce” by the time Ms Mills is done he will starve to death! Its well known that drug companies have a vested interest in selling drugs, not finding a cure–rather like the rat catcher, if he gets all the rats he becomes unemployed! simple economics not a conspiracy. As for the bank of England, l may be wrong but l think its owned by the tax payer. There is an “elite that rules the world, they do it because they can. no other reason. the trick is always vote for the outsider, this makes it expensive for them, they have to buy off more people! lf you believe in conspiracies then you become a victim, nothing more, nothing less.
42. warrrreagl - February 18th, 2008 at 11:32 am
SlickWilly I have to disagree with your ideas about the Paul Is Dead motivation. Although I agree that The Beatles did it all on purpose, I do not believe it was a gimmick to boost record sales. The first clue wasn’t unearthed by a fan until 1969 when they were less than a year away from their last album, so if it was an attempt to boost sales it was a failure and came too late. Also, I don’t believe they really cared about record sales after 1965 and were more interested in a quality product during those years than marketing. I think it was all just a lot of fun for four very wealthy and creative guys.
43. Blogball - February 18th, 2008 at 11:34 am
BadassBookworm, Exactly!! This is the common sense that doesn’t kick in for some reason for conspiracy theorist. Hundreds sometimes thousands of people orchestrating something to fool the rest of the world and not one person steps forward.
44. BadassBookworm - February 18th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Lightningclash: “It won a few awards at film festivals and they don’t give those to documentaries that aren’t well researched and truthful”
I would VERY much disagree with that statement. Fahrenheit 9/11 is a prime example. A lot of documentaries (especially on this subject) explore half truths and use editing to their advantage.
45. adfg - February 18th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Believe this SHIT if you want.
I have researched most of it.
46. JwJwBean - February 18th, 2008 at 11:40 am
why are they in such an odd order adfg? I never know what to think when it comes to these.
47. Lindsay - February 18th, 2008 at 11:43 am
This is to comment 34…. What is your problem? Get over yourself.
I totally believe that #5 is true… Where would they be if no one were to get sick anymore and every disease was curable? Hope to one day discover the truth.
48. Mom424 - February 18th, 2008 at 11:44 am
adfg; I can just imagine your sources; they all carry guns and wear army fatigues, believe that everything is a jewish/black/mason/catholic plot to destroy the american ideal of guns, liberty, and the pursuit of selfish happiness…
49. SlickWilly - February 18th, 2008 at 11:45 am
warrreagl: You may be right. My point was, though, that whatever the motivation, Paul is certainly *not* dead.
50. Dave - February 18th, 2008 at 11:53 am
I’m glad to see that there are reasonable people that can see past conspiracy theories. Anyone ever notice how people try to use conspiracy theories as a thinly veiled excuse to talk about why they hate America?
51. Carlos Mal Pacheco - February 18th, 2008 at 11:55 am
War for oil is not a conspiracy theory, there just isn’t any other possible explanation to the presence of the US in Iraq. The rest are very fascinating theories, I liked Paul is Dead very much
52. Blogball - February 18th, 2008 at 11:55 am
JwJwBean, This unusual chronological order of adfg ‘s (421567) is the combination to get into the suitcase the president caries around incase he wants to launch a nuclear attack. Don’t tell anybody.
53. adfg - February 18th, 2008 at 11:55 am
All you “conspiracy theory” haters don’t know shit. You justlove to be on the same side as every one else. You gots no hunger…no love….if this were pro “all that” you’d be too.
Go find out, that’s all I’m saying.
And Lindsay, I’m saying the clown who posted this “conspiracy expose, by prefacing quite plausible realities with “Paul is dead” and putting all this other stuff in the same category is an ASS, and should quite perpetuating this CRAP.
54. Sharki - February 18th, 2008 at 11:57 am
To Lindsay,
Because they can’t just wave a magic wand and make everyone alive now and everyone who will ever live healthy! Even if they had a vaccine for every disease and gave it to everyone on the planet, the next generation would still need it, and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next and the next, and on and on through out all of human existence. As long as there are people being born, this treatment would still be needed and there would still be money to be made.
55. Mom424 - February 18th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Blogball; hahahahah
there are fruitcakes everywhere, I’m related to one (comment 20)
56. SlickWilly - February 18th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Mom424: I feel your pain. I have a brother who worships David Icke and firmly believes that most major world leaders are in fact shape-shifting reptilian humanoids bent on enslaving the human race. Crazy, right?
He also believes everything adfg believes.
57. Mom424 - February 18th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
SlickWilly et al;
A “little” knowledge is a dangerous thing,,,,,
58. Harsha - February 18th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
What are the chances of finding a guy who is a look alike AND a sound alike! I mean we’re talking about Beatles here!!LOL!! That one tops the charts for being ridiculous! The oil thing could be very true, if they can do that shit with diamonds, then you can benefit more from this!
59. Andyman - February 18th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
I just bought a bunker in Kansas and planning to live there in complete solidarity. I have read this list and now so frightened I can’t even

TWO WORDS: Grassy. Knoll.

Andrea Carlena Beauman: Yes. And?
62. Andrea Carlena Beauman - February 18th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Well Willy, I believe that that theory is by far the most interesting one to follow.
-Andrea Carlena Beauman
63. Chestica - February 18th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
adfg- You seem to be a crazy person. With no sense of humor to boot. These are for entertainment purposes! There is nothing wrong with this list, they are theories because they cannot be proved, and they’re conspiracies because they are going against the coventional wisdom. Believe whatever you want, but don’t EVER call Jamie as ass again, because thanks to these lists, I now know how to kill you and get away with it. And survive in prison if need be.
64. Andrea Carlena Beauman - February 18th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
GO CHESTICA!!!!
You have my support.
-Andrea Carlena Beauman
65. Amy - February 18th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I think it would be foolish for us to always accept and never question our government, and the wealthy companies and organizations that help run the country. I truly believe some of the above theories have some validity to them. (of course, not all, and none of them in their entirety)
But, I do feel that we have to recognize the fact that many people in power do not have our best interest at heart - and money, more times than not, is the primary concern of public officials. I think that pretending to care about the needs of others is a nice way to get people behind them.
So, in that respect, we at least have to open ourselves up to the reality that some of the above *might* be real. (and we cannot off handedly dub them all concoctions of some crazy, beer guzzling, paranoid redneck) The truth is, there are people who work behind the scenes of our government, who I’m sure have more power and authority then we know or would be comfortable with -
Personally, I think some people need to take off the rose colored glasses. The world isn’t *that* nice. It’s extreme to see a Conspiracy Theory behind everything - but it’s equally as crazy to think none of this is possible…or that our government truly cares about the health and happiness of everyone in our country.
66. SlickWilly - February 18th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
ACB: You should check out the first Top 10 Conspiracy Theories list. It has the JFk assassination on it. Also, the movie “JFK” pretty much sums up all the evidence in favor of a conspiracy, so if you’re interested in the JFK assassination conspiracy, I would start there.
67. Blogball - February 18th, 2008 at 12:39 pm

andrea carlena beauman: Two words: No Proof
Heres my take on these
10) Paul isn’t dead, anyone with a brain knows this and if you play any song backwards yo will hear some words, or “clues”
9)The goverment has always been against drugs, they wouldn’t help foreigners with drugs either.
8)O.K. I am a little believing of this one, but i think the oil companies are trying to create new fuels for cars and stuff that they are too busy to look for new fuels.
7)AIDS isn’t man-made because it has been proven that gay sex, its gonna get weird, causes ruptures and lets white blood cells out lowering your immunity and can be passed around after it happens.
6)Flouride has medical benefits which is why its in our water in the first place, no one knew that it has some bad side-effects and still today most don’t know this either.
5)People, ITS TAKES A LONG F***ING TIME TO FIND A CURE FOR BAD DISEASES. and drug comp. won’t make profits off these diseases if everyone has it and dies, they are looking for cures everyday and there is one cure that could cure all these diseases but won’t be used because of frickin’ religious beliefs, STEM CELL RESEARCH.
4)chemtrails, sometimes patterns are different because planes don’t have the same flight pattern every frickin day.
3)everlasting lightbulbs are crap, metals can’t last forever and neither can lightbulbs
2) The war was started for 9/11 you soulless people who believe it wasn’t, we fight in their memory.
1)A new world order, are you retarted!?!
theres my opinions, please comment.

Mom424> I tend to read a lot of the books most folks won’t even crack the cover of, such as “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu, and “The Prince” by Niccolo Machiavelli. I would suggest that anyone who truly believes that Bush - or any other leader - is a moron read these and others and apply the principles therein as they reconsider their opinions.
Contrary to what many people believe, whether by Pavlovian training or through sheer ignorance, appearance is not everything. What is the nature of a real politician? They lie, dissemble, and cheat to get what they or their handlers want. Now, do you find a bumbling retard to be a threat? Nope. So, if you want to rape a country, or the world, what better way to keep people from worrying than to lead them to believe that you’re harmless.
79. Blogball - February 18th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Csimmons, Stem cell research is being done in the US by private funds and all over the world. Why would you blame it all on religious believes. The US government (George Bush) is just saying that our taxes should not be used for stem cell research because it is still considered controversial.

interesting facts about the war in iraq right now…
iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, but something like a scary majority of people believe it did.
also, iraq might not have the most oil, but has the LOWEST PRODUCING COST of oil in the world—it costs less to produce a barrel of oil in iraq than any other country. read “the end of oil” by paul roberts for more information all about that. it might not be a war just for oil, but there’s no denying it plays a huge role.
also, i’ve been fascinated by “paul is dead” for some time…and while there would be “merchandising opportunities”, there would still be no more beatles
the new world order is what freaked me out though. i’ve thought about that whole concept before..did not know it had a name!!

Shadow: Bush isn’t insidious. He is kind of dumb, there is no denying that. That being so, I’m a lot more worried about the people that are telling him what to do….it’s obvious that *they* are the ones running the country. Bush is essentially just a figurehead.

Ok, had to consult with what I have available here, and with my dad. On Fluoridation: Fluoride is fine when applied directly to the teeth. Once it is consumed or enters the body in any other way, it CAN cause damage. This is new stuff here, and it’s not confirmed yet.
Chemtrails: I live fairly close to several military bases, all of which have planes deployed to them. I have literally watched this stuff happen. As far as I’m concerned; it’s true. However, I’m still open to suggestion as to why anyone would want to control the weather in such a manner.
War for Oil: When we went into Iraq this time, the first place our troops were ordered to secure was the OIL MINISTRY. Suspiciaous at best.
HIV/AIDS: A fairly recent interview conducted with the man who pioneered modern vaccination techniques, and created the Polio vaccine, contained footage that was edited out where he admitted that in the early days vaccines were contaminated unbeknownst to the manufacturers with “wild viruses”. Many of these viruses were later found to cause various cancers. It was covered up by the pharmaceutical industry for fear of litigation. If you want to argue the illogic of this, just remember what the tobacco industry did for most of a century.
Everlasting lightbulb: All you have to do to extend the life of your incandescent bulbs is to leave them on. It’s the sudden surge of power that goes through the Tungsten filament when you flip the switch that decreases their life.
Paul is dead: Who cares? If he’s dead, he’s dead. If he’s alive, so much for this particular distraction.
The Government’s complicity in the drug trade: If you must argue it, educate yourselves on every side of the issue first. In this case; do a search for “Mena Airport, Arkansas. This is bound to enrage some you Clinton supporters; so if you can’t be mature, don’t read it.
Finally, the NWO: It’s still inconclusive. However, new treaties such as the “Law of the Sea” treaty lend some credence to this idea. There’s an absolutely humbling amount of information out there about all of these things. However, I will not contribute to intellectual welfare. Do some research folks, and keep an open mind while you do; because a closed mind is a dead mind.

Slick Willy: I tend to be a watcher most of the time, and I also have, through a very lonely childhood, gotten very good at figuring people out. I Won’t say that Bush is just a figurehead, but I also won’t write him off as an imbecile either. If you pay very close attention, he and Cheney are actually terrifyingly adept. Very soon in the USA, conversations like this will become a crime. So watch out. The ink isn’t even dry on the bill yet, and it’s bound to be rubber stamped into law when it hits Bush’s desk.
Borg: I was replying to Mom424’s first comment. As for what people think of Bush, for the longest time they allowed their fear to control them, and now we’re all about to reap the fruits of that fear. As for people paying attention and worrying; it’s pretty much too late. I personally am too terrified of prison to mess around. Isn’t that something; being more terrified of your own government than you are of people who have a hard-on for your death?

In Africa and other localities it is mostly confined to the straight communities, easily spread by rampant uncontrolled prostitution, ill health and poverty and lack of education allow it to thrive….

Huh ? Utter nonsense. Besides, there are more fertile grounds than Iraq if you want to tackle “Islamic Fundamentalist Jihad”.
With a name like “bookworm” let me suggest you read Dick Clarke’s book “Against All Enemies”. You will remember Clarke… he was only Chief Counter-Terrorism Adviser on the US National Security Council under both Clinton and GW Bush.

The one about the drug companies supressing cures for certain diseases I sort of agree with. At one point in my life I was being treated for severe depression. I kept telling the doctor that a certain “new” medication he was giving me was doing nothing but make me sleep 18 hours a day. He never took me off of it and just kept changing dosages and frequency. This happened for several months in a row. So I sought help without pills and I am fine now. (No it was not Scientology)
Then actual medical doctors have told me to stop taking vitamins and supplements because they do not work. I think they just want me to keep coming to them and buying their expensive FDA approved drugs. Makes me wonder why they are so damn quick to pass the newest drug out on the market like a bunch of licensed drug dealers.
No offense to anyone in the medical or psychological professions. These are based upon my own experiences.
95. Shadow - February 18th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Badass Bookworm: It does seem like an odd idea to think that the populace can be controlled so easily. However, What kind of ratings did the reporting of the death a certain train-wreck of a celebrity garner, versus say…… the discussion in both houses of Congress of a bill that if signed into law would remove every constitutional right Americans used to enjoy, in perpetuity. FEMA used to be the scapegoat for this idea, and may in fact have a part in it if this stuff is real. However, With all of the variables out there, it is difficult to believe that only a few people at the top really have full control of every aspect of life for every individual on Earth. It’s more likely that they would have absolute control over the generalities. Given the propensity for humans to go chasing after what makes them feel good, it wouldn’t be difficult to control any populace by providing them with a glut of choices for entertainment. Even the ancient Roman Empire understood this; it’s why they had circuses and gladiatorial contests. Populations are best pacified if they’re entertained. Now, which world powers have societies that are thoroughly disposed to the pursuit of hedonistic pleasure? If you look, you’ll see many of them involved overseas in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Coincidence?

I guess now it’s pretty much a given that nobody except his divorce lawyers cares if he’s alive. As long as they get paid - he’s real enough.

Shadow: I agree with your statements about the population going after entertainment or “what feels good”. In fact, I would go as far to say that the population goes for the simple solution. It seems that believing that there is a shadowy group of people are at work trying to control the “generalities” of life is easier than taking responsiblity for what goes on around you. Just because the majority of media broadcasts something, doesn’t mean you have to listen or even care (in reference to that certain train wreck).
Kiwiboi: Richard Clarke was Bush and CLINTON’s Cheif Counterterrorism advisor. The same one who advised Clinton to track Bin Laden because there was a growing Al Qaeda threat in Iraq. Bush kept him around to pacify those loyal to the previous administration and Clarke turned on him when it was politically expedient.
105. matt - February 18th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Theres really no point in having an opinion over most of this, because theres no hard evidence either way. fluoride could be the next asbestos, and cancer/aids is obviously not going to be cured, and alot of you should think about that due to a reason stated in this list. Overpopulation. If we cured all the diseases the world would overpopulate much much faster, so if thats the reason these diseases were introduced then they serve their purpose well.
And to whoever stated religious beliefs are preventing stem cell research if that was the case then why is abortion still around. and to that same person, we are not fighting in memory of people that died in 9/11, people die all the time, no one really cares people just like to feel like they are apart of something, hence religion.
Chemtrails exist, its called exhaust.

I don’t think that ‘planned obsolescence’ can really be considered a conspiracy theory. (In the case of the light bulbs)
Most of your run-of-the-mill household appliances, electronics, and even tools are designed to be replaced much sooner than they probably should be. My dad has an old Black & Decker corded drill from the 60’s that still works like a champ, but I have had to replace my drill about once a year because the motors burn up. Was drill technology so much better in the 60’s? Or did B&D figure out that dad wasn’t buying stuff often enough for their tastes?
I don’t know if they could make a light bulb that could last forever. Something about the physics of that seems unlikely. But I bet you a dollar that they could make them last a hell of a lot longer than they do!
Planned obsolescence is the reason we live in a ‘disposable’ society- It’s easier to replace stuff than fix it. It’s not a conspiracy. It’s a fact.

Couldn’t help but noticing in the January 2008 edition of Scientific american, there is an article on new research about fluoride.
It seems that overuse of fluoride causes some problems. but it is still early days yet. I couldn’t find a link to anything on their website. i will scout around.
Some numbers for you, in the u.s.a. there is on average 0.71 ppm in tap water. Strongest first,
Brewed black tea contains 3.73 ppm, raisins 2.34 ppm, apple flavoured juice drink 1.09ppm, and then tap water at 0.71ppm.
Beer comes in at 0.45 ppm. These are all from the article.

I read a book about the ‘Paul is Dead’ theory. I personally don’t believe that he died and some guy took his place…it’s impossible to fake that kind of genius. But, the book made some pretty good arguments to prove that wrong. It went so in depth with all the “clues”, people really took their time looking way too deep into it.
I think the books is actually called…”paul is dead”
112. Tomo - February 19th, 2008 at 1:40 am
I guess it is human nature to beleive in fantasy. A conspiracy theory is certainly much more interesting than a boring old explanation.
There is loads of info/evidence on the Paul is dead theory and most of it is quite convincing.
Wag the Dog was and awesome flick. And if memory serves me it came out around the time the Lewinsky incident happened and I remember some fighting in Bosnia erupted right after.
War for oil is another plausible theory.
Creating disease and suppressing medication has been the premise of so much literature and so many films that I don’t know what to believe. If it is true, then I shudder to think what deep crevice of hell the ones who perpatrate such treachery shall rot in!!

The medicine stuff just might be true. It has happened before.Anyone interested just google up ‘royal raymond rife’. This person in the mid 1900s created a machine that through the use of ultrasound could kill not only disease causing germs but also cancer cells.. He had a success rate of 100% in curing cancer patients. His work was destroyed and nobody has been able(or been allowed) to replicate it.
115. Devon - February 19th, 2008 at 3:37 am
Actually if the War in Iraq was about Oil, why in the hell would America travel thousands of miles into a brutal islamic culture racing a hostile population when in REALITY they could have come up to MY province of Alberta which is the single largest SOURCE for American oil the world over and marched into our province without losing one soldier…
With us passive Canadians, all you have to do is make sure you don’t mess with our Hockey…
Seriously though…Alberta is in your backyard, we have proven reserves almost the size of Saudi Arabia and we are Pro American by and large…In fact..if America were to invade Alberta, many of us would welcome it as a way to get out from under the yoke of Eastern Canada!
Anyways good list and yes Conspiracy theories are for the intellectually weak….Surprised you didn’t have the 9-11 moron theories listed?
116. Drogo - February 19th, 2008 at 3:50 am
I was going to mention Planned Obsolescence like
Yarr did at comment #109. Manufacturers plan out “product turnover.” Products are designed to wear out after a certain amount of use. Here’s an example with car parts. General Motors spent 3 Billion dollars on research and developement of a plastic cog for car transmissions. They know how many miles the average car is driven during the warranty period. They developed a plastic that was strong enough to not erode away within the warranty period, but wouldn’t last much longer. After the warranty expires GM doesn’t have to replace the part for free, so they made money selling a new part. The replacement part is made of aluminum, it lasts the life of the car. They could put the aluminum cog in the transmission when it’s on the assembly line, but then it would never need to be replaced.

The first theory is connected to all except 9 and 10.. This is not a theory just to be exact. its a fact. Go to www.quicksilverscreen.com and check out the documentaries. You will be fascinated and scared. The truth is out there and please open your eyes..Don’t be as stupid as they would like you to be. As we already are manipulated every day of our lives. Just look around and you will see that 2% of population has the 98% of all earth resources..How fucked up is that. Half of the world is hungry and thirsty and only united states trow away food every day enough to feed entire world. I wont go to details how fat america is, you should watch super size me for that. Well no more. Stand up, take your but out of your couch and go and inform yourself and everybody else. Stop giving the government everything they want. Its not for the people anymore. It is for them. We are slaves already, working a lot more than living. Buy shit that we dont need but think that we want. Giving up our families. And living our life alone so they can control us easier.
IT IS ALL ABOUT POWER AND CONTROL OF THE FEW. WELL FUCK THAT. NO MORE. POWER TO THE WORLD NOT FOR NEW WORLD ORDER AND ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT.

STOP THE WAR. STOP THE KILLING. STOP SPENDING ON SHIT. BE WITH YOUR FAMILY AND STOP GIVING AWAY YOUR FREEDOM. (WHAT IS LEFT OF IT)

I’m personally very skeptical of all conspiracy theories. I just find it highly unlikely that with the amount of people involved that someone wouldn’t slip. Especially the one about the drug companies. There are thousands of scientists working on cures around the world. Don’t you think more than a few of them have family or friends that they love that have the illnesses they are fighting?
The time to accept a claim is when there is enough evidence to back it up. Documentaries and movies are NOT evidence illogical claims. The directors have an agenda and can skew evidence to back up their opinions. So people, stop pointing at documentaries as proof of your beliefs!
119. magnidude - February 19th, 2008 at 6:49 am

120. jfrater - February 19th, 2008 at 6:58 am

Maybe because Sadam could have got more powerful with all of that oil? Because oil companies which financed Bush would lose large part of the world’s oil cake?
or do you think they attacked Iraq because they care about people that live there? or because of the chemical weapons which were never found? And they even said that America didn’t have any real proof to believe that Iraq had been working on those weapons.
Today who controls oil, controls the world.
If they went there to free Iraq from Saddam’s dictatorship then why don’t they help those state in Africa where they are killing each other for last 50 years in stupid civil wars? Why don’t they bring peace there?

Badass - “Richard Clarke was Bush and CLINTON’s Cheif Counterterrorism advisor. The same one who advised Clinton to track Bin Laden because there was a growing Al Qaeda threat in Iraq. Bush kept him around to pacify those loyal to the previous administration and Clarke turned on him when it was politically expedient.”
Once again, you are talking nonsense. You try and undermine Clarke’s credibility by inferring that he was a Clinton hanger-on that Bush retained for political expediency. You seem to ignore the fact that Clarke was also a senior figure in Reagan’s and Bush Senior’s administrations.
And as for advising Clinton that there was an Al Quaeda threat in Iraq - Clarke has made it clear his concerns about Al Quaeda extended to the Middle East as a whole, and that any reference to Iraq was ancillary to this (eg. the mere passing on of filtered intelligence from Iraqi informers).
As I stated earlier - do some research. There are reputable independent news sources out there who were also of the view that the White House tried to subject Clarke to a deliberate smear campaign in order to discredit him.

So much for no personal attacks.
none> Have a happy pill dude. The vast majority of people will never “wake up” to anything because their world views and perceptions of reality won’t allow it.
A now deceased president has been quoted as saying “There is nothing to fear but ‘Fear’ itself.” (It’s been a long time since I’ve thought about this one, so I may have it quoted incorrectly. If you know the correct information, feel free to correct me.)
That being said, fear in general is the greatest and most prolific motivator of people. Go ahead, think it through, you will find not a single solitary situation where the ultimate motivator for action or inaction is not fear.

Interesting list there were a few on here that I hadn’t heard about.
As far as the everlasting light bulb theory, wasn’t there a lightbulb that Edison made that was lit for over a hundred years or something like that. I remember hearing that it was in a museum or something along those lines.

One of my favourite theories at the minute is the Diana one. The inquest is getting so much coverage and has become an enormous farce.
Personally I find it very interesting that the conspiracy theorists credit the conspirators with the astonishing power and intelligence to perform these acts and get away with it, yet not enough to stay undetected by people spending most of their time in a basement with tin foil on their heads.
129. Shadow - February 19th, 2008 at 9:27 am
bucslim> Patrick Swayze was in Donnie Darko? I must confess, I don’t really watch much TV or very many movies, so I’m certain not to be affected by jibes from folks further down the evolutionary ladder, such as yourself.
And yes, that was a personal attack. If I need to dumb it down for you, by all means, ask.

I think that conspiracy theories are conspiracy theories. They are designed to keep us from realizing what’s really going on which is the takeover of the world by ducks.
True…I saw a documentary once which will back me up.

Yeah! Your mom! Just kidding. I find it odd that Richard Clarke is as pure as the wind driven snow because he was part of Bush’s cabinet and turned on him, yet others who are part of the same cabinet who speak otherwise are ignored and viewed as lackeys. And it also seems that whenever the truth is told about someone who disagrees with the Bush admin and in turn hampers our intellegence/war effort it is labeled a smear campaign. If we want to discuss smear campaigns, let’s talk about the mulitudes of music, movies, books, websites, protests, etc who lie about what happened these last eight years.
And if I hear that “there were no WMDs in Iraq” one more time I’m going to scream. There were MASS GRAVES full of men, women and children who were gassed by Saddam. What more proof is needed?
133. ed9362 - February 19th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
OK i know a few things about some of these.
i spent a number of years in the aviation industry and i can tell you that contrails or vapor trails are caused when air is compressed around edges and curves on the aircraft. winglets, vortex breakers, engine nacells and prop tip for example. after the air is compressed by the aircraft it rapidly decompresses and the moisture in the air is disassociated causing a cloud, nothing more. the length of time this cloud will be visible is dependant on mainly atmospheric conditions relating to dew point.
this vapor can be seen all the time when military fighter aircraft turn sharply or go supersonic, the only difference is that at low altitude the cloud that is left behind reassociates with the atmosphere easily due to the low depoint at low altitudes.
therefore every contrail will look different just the same as aircraft vary by design and atmospheric conditions change.
it amazes me people can look up see a contrail that looks a little bit weird and decide that it must be the government poising them. paranoid delusion anyone.
as for #8
i now work for one of the major oil companies in production and i have spoken to a number of people that actually know how world oil prices are set and what creates the price fluctuations, it is there job.
the conspiracy is half right, in a nut shell the reason oil is so expensive is that while oil demand is increasing at an unprecedented rate due to the rapid development of countries such as china and india. the infrastructure for producing oil and oil products is not maching that rate thus oil available decrases and price soars.
could the oil companines reduce price by building more wells, refineries and improving distribution? yes probably, BUT oil companies just like other businesses (they are trying to make money that is what businesses do) they have a budget for new infrastructure. in the west a vast amount of that budget is spent on upgrading existing equiptment to meet new govenment requirements, environmental requirements mainly. also even if they wanted to reduce the price of world oil they probably couldnt keep up.

The Flat Earth Society not only “still” believes that the Earth is flat, but they also believe in a worldwide conspiracy since who knows when to cover up this fact and make the whole world think the worls is round for no apparent reason. The Flat Earth Society believes that NASA is part of this conspiracy carried out by all of the world’s nations, and they create footage and “fake” pictures of the Earth and universe to fool us. Oh yeah, also the ‘flat Earth’ is covered by an ice wall in the Antartica covering the circumference of the disc shaped Earth to keep the oceans from flowing out which is guarded by the American government. Check it out; http://theflatearthsociety.org.....ic=11211.0

“it also seems that whenever the truth is told about someone who disagrees with the Bush admin and in turn hampers our intellegence/war effort it is labeled a smear campaign.”
Badass - you are sounding naive. There is very little doubt that Clarke was smeared by Bush supporters. You will remember, for example, that Dick Cheney in a silly attempt to marginalise Clarke’s service to the Bush administration stated that Clarke was never in “the loop” on terrorism matters. LOL..he is talking about Bush’s Chief Counterterrorism advisor!
Here’s the embarassing reaction from Condi Rice to Cheney’s words, courtesy of the NY Times :
“Condoleezza Rice, the national security adviser, took exception to Vice President Dick Cheney’s assertion that Richard A. Clarke, the administration’s former counterterrorism chief, was out of the loop. On the contrary, Ms. Rice said, Mr. Clarke was very much involved in the administration’s fight against terrorism.”
and this is from *within* the Bush inner circle !!
Also, let me add eminent economist Paul Krugman’s views (courtesy of wikipedia) :
“NY Times columnist Paul Krugman was more blunt, calling the (Whitehouse) attacks on Clarke “a campaign of character assassination.”
You also state that “If we want to discuss smear campaigns, let’s talk about the mulitudes of music, movies, books, websites, protests, etc who lie about what happened these last eight years.”
That sounds like paranoia…but at least this list is about conspiracy theories…do you have any viable examples of the above, Badass ?
“And if I hear that “there were no WMDs in Iraq” one more time I’m going to scream.”
Then here’s an especially good reason for you to scream. Straight out of GW Bush’s own mouth and courtesy of the Washington Post :
“In a speech before the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, NC, on April 7, 2006, President Bush stated that he “fully understood that the intelligence was wrong, and [he was] just as disappointed as everybody else” when U.S. troops failed to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq”
And we are talking about the cause of the invasion of Iraq here; gassing of civilians and/or other atrocities were *never* a factor in this. We already knew Sadamm was a tyrant.
Badass…wake up and smell the coffee !
139. albert0 - February 20th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Most of these seem a bit ridiculus. Most people start these because they want start a rumot that gets them attention. However, I myself do believe that the Iraq war is very likely to be because of oil, and also I believe that the everlating, or certainly very long lasting, lghtbulb is possible, but because it is not economically benificial for the companies, it is not released to the general public.

Ok, the one that sounds most believable(sp?) is the drug conspiracy one. I mean come on. The money is in the medicine not the cure. If they cure AIDS, think of all the $$ being lost in the products that help you “live” with it for years. Its sad that things always boil down to money. Some CEO out there doesn’t have enough. They’re not happy making 60 million a year because they want 70 million. You can only drive one car at a time buddy. I bet when some guy out there comes up with an engine that gets 200MPG, exxon and all the others will be in a huge bidding war for the technology so they can shelf it. How the hell can all those Saudis drive their custom Bentleys if we’re not filling up on $3/gal every few days?? Oh, and BTW, I’m pretty sure Paul is alive. He’s still making music. But then again, so is Tupac.
143. rbR - February 21st, 2008 at 4:52 am
NR 7: South Africa on AIDS. The former vice president, who got fired by the way, which is coincidently the next president, had extramarital sex last year or 2 years back with a woman he knew had aids, so he took a shower.
The current president stood strong on the (in some ways) to the aids theory, and the health minister said to eat some beetroot, lemons and garlic to cure aids.
Do a search on google under aids: South Africa, (or http://www.mg.co.za/articlepag.....eid=288029) and be surprised by the South African leaders’ views on aids (in this day and age). Luckily those views are at last changing.

There are some wacky theries out there. Therefore you can shoot down any conspiracy theory by saying that it’s justs a crazy conspiracy theory, case closed. Theories that have may have some truth in them don’t have a chance.
If you think oil had nothing to do with Iraq war, you must be pretty ignorant.
We now know the WMD scare and Iraqi 9/11 connection were lies.
147. Jane - February 23rd, 2008 at 6:05 pm
The war being about oil is a conspiracy theory on a par with Chemtrails and Paul is Dead?! That’s pretty ridiculous. I personally find a resource war a lot more believable than a war against a nebulous concept like “terror”.

This is a great discussion. JF, you should just make a blank comments page and see how long it takes the discussion to turn to how much everyone hates Bush. Opinion pages are liberal magnets…and the people defending the conspiracies are totally playing the part…you know: “It’s all real! You conservative morons haven’t read what I’ve read! You’re just ignorant!” Anyway, it good to have a well-rounded site that asks for peoples’ opinions.
151. Mezzomorto - March 29th, 2008 at 4:42 am
5. True, with caveats. Not all drug-makers are that hard up for profits that they would reject a cure were it to come along. However you can be certain the Board of Directors doesn’t favor cures over treatment when they allocate the budget for research.
2. Though oil may play a part, the real reason we went to Iraq was to create profits for the Military Industrial Complex. Cheney’s Halliburton stock options for instance, skyrocketed in value in the last 5 years. If anyone wants to dismiss this as liberal ramblings remember the farewell address by famed Republican president Dwight D. Eisenhower:
“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”
1. The New World Order exists, but it is not necessarily as sinister a thing as you might think. A previous comment stated that “hubris” is the downfall of that theory, this is partially true. The ‘elites’ are merely groups of people with much greater means to influence the world at large than many of us here. They could be old-money families, dynastic aristocrats who have had hundreds of years to accumulate wealth. They could be large religious organizations, the Catholic Church (one of the largest land-holders in the world), Mormon Church, Scientology, etc. They could simply be large corporations with interchangeable boards and stockholders. Even the U.S.A is a group of elites, a group who’s misplaced trust in a crooked leader now threatens the balance of power in the world.
Naturally some groups are more effective at concealing their efforts than others.
To think that those who possess power don’t exercise it is extremely naive.
152. KKing - March 30th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Messomorto: good thoughts until the end…listening to the message of Eisenhower (which has haunted me for months just thinking about it), George Bush has much less influence than everyone thinks. I’m assuming that’s who you meant by “crooked leader.” Things as big as a war are over and above him. And to all the other American democrats…if you think the war will suddenly end if Obama or Clinton gets in, you’re being naive.
153. Mezzomorto - April 1st, 2008 at 3:24 am
Perhaps I was being much too specific, I should have said “leadership”, and it is just that. The circumstance the United States now faces is a loss of supremacy in the world, and it was greed and mismanagement from the highest echelons in power that caused it. The fact is we are in Iraq, and the only reason we will continue to stay there is not because fear for the well-being of the Iraqi people, but rather the 100+ billion a year we are funneling into the coffers of the military industrial complex. Don’t think for a second the war has anything to do with ‘terrorism’ or ‘public safety’ or ‘freeing those people’ but rather the tens of thousand dollars of YOUR tax money to pay for munitions that various companies have thus far collected and shall collect so long as people support the war. Doesn’t sound very ‘conservative’ to me. I imagine the subprime mess and gas prices wouldn’t sting so much if you had that money rather than Halliburton.
154. Good Wolf - April 14th, 2008 at 1:09 am
A few give me enough reason to believe once looked into like the NWO and fake high gas prices. The idea you need to understand is that people in power can and do misuse their power for personal gain. I had a friend once who said “But that doesn’t happen. It can’t.”
“Why”
“Because there are people in place to make sure that doesn’t happen”
“Everybody has a price. Those people have a lot to gain protecting powerful people.”
He was speachless
155. Spanner in the Works - May 2nd, 2008 at 7:06 pm
THEORY NUMBER 1: Sure people with power manipulate. By and large the more power, the more manipulation. But not just a few bankers. Politicians and religious leaders are at least as effective. Not many would regard Tamurlaine, Genghis, Alexander the Great and a whole host of other historical warmongers as banker-led. Nor all those religious wars, either. There’s plenty of such historical evidence to suggest we can get on with messy wars and manipulation with or without merchant bankers (rhyming slang for wankers, by the way). A world network of these merchants? Who knows? Perhaps unlikely, given the inability of any group of people to agree together for long when there’s a lot at stake. Harold MacMillan was once asked how much he thought deliberate political intervential could affect the tide of human affairs and I believe he replied by not much more than 10% no matter how hard anyone tried (I guess he was ruling out the likes of Hitler, though even Hitler was a result of the aftermath of WWI). Another factor: there were and are so many lunatic loose international screwball cannons like Idi Amin and Saddam Hussein around, to name just two minor cases among many, that I doubt whether anyone could deliberately manipulate world affairs. Just remember too, Hitler got into power because powerful German industrialists and bankers thought they could handle ‘the little idiot’ like a puppet! However, think on this. You cannot have cannot have a world civilised order with vast cities, nations and industries without powerful leaders. So put together Catch-22 and Animal Farm and Bingo, here we are. On the other hand, to paraphrase Winnie the Great Churchill, democracy is crap, but its the best crap we’ve got because it at least sets one power seeker against another and helps to neutralise their excesses, as anti-monopoly laws and competition do for industry. Otherwise, what price Rupert Murdoch for World Emperor, folks!
PERSONAL AD.: In case anyone’s interested, I also just commented on a few of the first 10 theories over on the earlier site.
Can we have corn circles in the next 10, please?

157. Spanner in the works - May 12th, 2008 at 9:08 am
By the way (just to keep the pot boiling), ongoing conspiracy theories seem to work a bit like Russian dolls, don’t they?
In other words, where there is an inquiry or other’official’ investigation which finds there was no ‘conspiracy’, it is immediately branded as part of the same ‘establishment’ cover up? And so on, however many inquiries are held.
In the Diana case, for example, the French police and judicial services were part of the cover up, ditto all the inquiries in Britain, no matter by whom. A huge number of Brits plus Al Fayed sr. (who is not a Brit), believed and go on believing she was done in by the Royal Family, and would probably accuse God of being part of the cover-up if He sent her eternal spirit back to declare it was not so.
This is perhaps because a conspiracy is so much more exciting and stimulating than the dull alternative, and is actually more like ‘real life’, i.e. soap opera, video games and such like on the big and little screens. Except that is for Al Fayed who simply hates the Royal Family full stop.
The wish to believe in aliens probably has a more profound, quasi-religious basis. Once upon a time, as fairy stories go, we humans on our flat earth believed we were the centre and reason for the universe and creation. All those little points of light in the sky were a comfortingly near and revolved around us. The sun was a nice fire in the sky put there to keep us warm and allow us to see. Now we know we live in a vast, freezing emptiness, punctuated by black holes, red dwarfs and who knows what else, where even the bit we know about is measured across in billions of light years, and we are tucked away in an insignificant corner. Thanks to the late lamented Douglas Adams, we know that the answer to everything is 42, but we still don’t know what the question was!
Under the circs it’s comforting to believe we are not alone, and THEY can even interact with us.
So why are aliens nasty most of the time? Two reasons offered. Firstly take terrestrial life. Slugs, mice and deer and other harmless creatures are boring. We get more hyped up by pokey sharks, tigers, dinosaurs and killer bees. Secondly, if we launched off into space and started colonising other habitable planets, what might WE do to their ‘rightful’ occupants?
Long live green alien slime lizards.
158. Brad - May 13th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Most of these are silly, but the New World Order one is definitely a possibility. It’s coming closer and closer to being a reality due to our global banking systems. Just read what Woodrow Wilson said after he created the federal reserve. Rockefeller even admitted that there were plans for a new world order.
159. Spanner in the works - May 14th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Gee, thanks, Brad, I was beginning to worry I’d killed this site off!
Fiscal control of the planet by few certainly looks feasible, but I think there will always be a lot of feedback from back down the line, and that would probably tend to dampen its power considerably.
The other doubt I still have is: how far does the network extend globally? I don’t know. But China will soon equal and perhaps overtake the U.S. as world Nº1 power. Is she dependent on Western banking (as opposed to Western trade agreements), or independent? What about Russia? What about India? These either are, or are potentially, very big players indeed, quite capable of inventing their own ball games.
As a personal view, if global over-heating (see first site: Top 10 Conspiracy Theories) isn’t sorted out in time, and soon, I think world banking and economic systems are likely to become completely irrelevant, to say the least. I know plenty don’t agree, and some even consider climate change a conspiracy. All I can say is I hope and pray they are right, but fear from my professional knowledge of the natural world that they are seriously mistaken.
160. JazJ - May 25th, 2008 at 12:12 am
The one I can believe of the above the most has to be the drug companies. I mean, really, most of the evil done in this world at some point boils down to greed. Logically, why would they want to see something that could wipe out destructive diseases when that would mean an end to the very products they are marketing? They would lose massive profits and that would mean an end to high prices and depending on their products. So, common sense tells me that there is probably some truth to that one. I don’t know how far it goes, but I think they wouldn’t want to put too much money into research that would cure their pot of gold.
