With Christmas arriving in just a few weeks, why not get a last minute gift for that certain someone – child, friend, collector – who has everything? Here are a few examples of gift ideas that most mortals could never afford.
10. Barbie

How about the Diamond Barbie, co-designed by De Beers? It comes with a gown sporting 160 diamonds, as well as white gold miniature jewelry to give the world’s most expensive Barbie doll the world’s most expensive look. The one-of-a-kind 40th anniversary Barbie, created in 1999, comes with a full figured price tag of £50,000.00 or about $85,000.00 USD. 1959 Barbie No. 1, in mint condition, runs about $8,000.00 USD. My daughter would love one! Do you take a check?
9. Matchbox Car

Maybe you would like one of the original Matchbox Cars? Well, in that case, it’s a boxy sea-green sedan, the 1966 Opel Diplomat. A rare few are being offered for sale, but at $9,000, they’re beyond most people’s budgets. If only you’d bought one years ago, when they first hit the market. The price back then: 48 cents.
8. Toy Gun

Would you like the American 6mm Mini-gun for AirSoft? Sorry. However, if you were lucky enough to get one while in production, congratulations. Nothing came close to the power of these things in a Gatling-type air-gun. Like a school of piranhas, the steel 6mm BB’s could chew little bits of inch-thick reinforced glass until there was nothing left. And with the 3000 round magazine, this mini-gun blows the Japanese guns right off the playing field. Used, in good condition, with accessories, these M134 guns have sold “Used” for over $9000.
7. Toy Sewing Machine

Perhaps one of your children is into darning? Well, this particularly unusual toy sewing machine, adorned with a clown was auctioned at the ISMACS auction in London, England. The bidding went quickly to 6,000 pounds and then was down to two strong bidders, neither wanting to give up on the chance of having this toy sewing machine. The last two bidders were an English industrial sewing machine dealer and a German millionaire. Finally, when the Englishman bid a whopping $13,600, the German quietly did not bid. The holes can stay in my clothes, thanks.
6. Teddy Bear

Your children love stuffed bears much like so many around the world, so why not ‘splurge’ and get them one of these: To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Teddy Bear, a German company created a limited edition of 125 bears, of which the mouth is made of solid gold and the eyes of sapphires and diamonds. The cost: £43,000.00, making it the world’s most expensive available Teddy Bear. The highest price ever paid for a single one of these Teddy Bears was $193,000.00 USD.
5. Toy Soldier

So you have a few boys who just love to wage war with their military action figures. Here we have the most expensive toy soldier in the world. It was the creation of Don Levine, and was the 1963 G.I. Joe prototype. Levine sold the prototype to Baltimore businessman Stephen A. Geppi, on August 7, 2003, during an auction performed by Heritage Comics Auctions of Dallas, Texas. The prototype was purchased for $200,000 USD. When Levine created his toy soldier, he created it on his ping-pong table. The soldier measured 11 ½ inches tall and had 21 movable parts. Not only did this G.I. Joe have movable parts, but he also wore a hand stitched Sergeants uniform. Now is that a toy to die for?
4. Ride-On Toy

If you have a kid between the ages of 7 and 15 and want to give them a gift that will make them the instant envy of the neighborhood, then you must check out The Off-Roader. However, if you do not have a limitless bank account, you may have to get a loan just to purchase it. The cost of this Junior Off Roader is $40,000 USD or £17,000. This beauty comes complete with: all weather fiberglass body with a protective frame, dual hydraulic disk brakes, rack and pinion steering, manual emergency brake, full front and rear suspension, front and rear suspension, three speed transmission, radio and CD player with speakers on the side doors. Oh, and it is also very comfortable, with adjustable, upholstered leather seats. They can ride in style at a blistering 30 mph. *Please excuse the Copy Written image, it’s all I could find!
3. PEZ Dispenser

How many times have you gotten one of the thousands of PEZ Dispenser varieties in your stocking on Christmas? Well, if you love them, as many collectors do, then the 1982 World’s Fair Astronaut B PEZ Dispenser is for you. It was on the auction block on eBay and is one of the only two known to have been created. One has a white helmet and green stem. It is believed to have been a prototype to The World’s Fair board. The PEZ dispenser was never put into production, and was received from former PEZ employees as stated by the auction. The winning bid for the world’s most expensive PEZ Dispenser: $32,205.00 USD.
2. Hand-Held Video Game

Now that the most popular video game system, the Nintendo Wii, is next to impossible to locate, why not find one for you child in the hand-held variety. The world’s most expensive Gameboy is made of 18 K gold and the display screen is surrounded by diamonds. Available through Swiss Supply, and created by Aspreys Of London, this little toy will set you back a playful $25,000.00 USD. They will, however, toss in a case, the cables and a few games for you. Thank goodness, that makes it all worth while.
1. Star Wars Movie Prop

Forget figures this holiday, your little Star Wars fan wants collectible movie memorabilia! So, in that case, get him this: The Darth Vader fighting helmet from The Empire Strikes Back. It’s a mere $115,000, and was used extensively throughout the climactic fight sequences in the film. It was specially created to allow Bob Anderson, the Olympic fencing champion who took over the role of Darth Vader for the fight sequences, clearer vision. Great, now your child can see so much better while battling the Jedi.

damn, makes me wish that i would have still had all of my he-man, gi joe, transformer, and star wars toys. that gun is crazy though!!!
I think you have the prices wrong on the barbie item. £50,000 is a bit over $100,000 now…
4. Junior Off Roader $40,000 USD
How in gods name does this cost more then a real car would? Takes the term novelty to extremes. Dont get me wrong I love my son, but damn it if he would ever get something like this.
I wish they created a golden wii (not that I can afford it) (or maybe I can)
Hehe Golden Wii…oh sorry I still cant get over the name Wii.
I still think it is one of the most unfortunate recent product names too.
Yah but it worked
I wouldn’t consider the Darth Vader prop a toy, but still, 115,000 bucks? Who buys this stuff?
dazed, you have no idea what Star Wars collectors will do to have a special item. trust me. I am one
It would be considered a toy in the hands of my five year old…of course giving it to a five year old would also be considered a sin!
Dear god does a kid really need a toy car like that! Heck for a just about 10K I would give them my real truck.
i have a game boy…but i got it for 20 bucks and it wasnt gold lol
I want that gone! MOM! GET THE CHECKBOOK!!!
*gun, not gone
The least they could do is offer a Gold DS or hell maybe a GBA but an original Game Boy. That thing is almost 20 years old now.
Game boys aren’t 20 years old are you crazy!!! Besides you can get more fun out of that thing that on a ds when you posted this comment it wasn’t even 10 years old yet
The Game Boy is an 8-bit handheld video game device developed and manufactured by Nintendo. It was released in Japan on April 21, 1989 (1989-04-21), in North America on July 31, 1989 (1989-07-31), and in Europe on September 28, 1990 (1990-09-28). [wiki]
sounds like roughly 20 years to me.
The present use of CAD/CAM in prototyping or making models for any shapes to make toys, compared years back. I doubt if 20 years from now, our children will give the same valuation on what we are doing today.
As a jeweler, I need almost a month to make a model of ring with logo and insignia. Now-a-day, I need only a day or two.
man, that’s the *****iest barbie i’ve ever seen.
I’m pretty sure that there is a version of Monopoly available that has jewel encrusted platinum playing pieces and uses real money
A golden teddy bear? I know gold is pretty mallable (excuse my spelling) and all, but that doesn’t sound very cuddly….Anyway, cool list.
the toy soldiers great, modeled on t.s eliot no less
For a nano second I thought the toy soldier was the “W” action figure. Price tag – 1 trillion dollars. Mission accomplished?
Damn, I thought that was Belly-Dancer Xena Barbie!
Cool list, J.
If I could afford any of these items, I would undoubtedly go for Vader, just to say: “Luke, I am your father”
Is the teddy bear in the picture the one? If so I would love one (he would put the rest of my collection to shame) any offers to buy it for me hint hint …….
I don’t get. Why would anyone pay that much for a toy?
#8 is REDICULOUS!
Hope that Teddy Bear comes with at comb and brush because is looks ragget. It better be able to get up and walk too. Do dishes, sweep, cook….
and there i was at 8 thinking my see through gameboy was awesome…
how wrong i was
hi,
i have 3 1966 pez star wars dispensers that i bought at a yard sale for 2.00, these are the originals, one is luke skywalker, footed, yellow glasses blue eyes, on orange exterior is the following; us pat., 4.966.305, made in slovenia, the second is bobba fett also not a repo on outside of case it states; us pat.4.966.305, made in hungary, last is chewbacca, this has the date lucas films 1997, blue eyes and unlike any i have seen full mouth white and pink, also states us pat.4.966.305, made in slovenia, any idea of their respected value would be fantastic, thanks so much, also on the outside case luke has #5, chewy has #5 and fett has#1, please help!! thanks, kerry for son Kam
For that much money, even an ugly loser like myself could get a REAL woman to dress up like that barbie.
I do agree that the prices for these toys are absurd, but then again, if certain people have the money, they are going to pay to have them.
I’ll stick with my library card for free entertainment (minus the late return fees)
Another 'toy' that is insanely expensive is the Nintendo World Championships: Gold Edition cartridge from 1990 for the NES console. It's more of a collector's item than an actual toy – but it's still a game! One website I saw estimated that if someone found one (there were 26 distributed all over the US) it'd sell for over $10,000, so on about the same level as the matchbox cars at #9.
There's another video game called Kizuna Encounter for the Neo Geo that would sell for over $10,000 too, but there are less than 12 of them. Both estimates are from 2006, they may have increased in value since then.
She was Molly’s (Andy’s sister) toy. Molly teandod her, and Andy’s toys were put into the box with her that went to the SunnySide Daycare Center. The Barbie part you are referring to was not related to the Barbie in the third movie.
that barbie actually looks life like -.-
that is crazy!!!
In January 2005, the Märklin Toy Train museum in Göppingen, Germany, was burgled and more than 100 pieces, with an estimated value of more than 1 million Euros, were stolen. The items, which included one-of-a-kind prototypes along with pieces that dated back to 1891, were recovered in March 2005
Nice toys. Do you guys like to play chess? I know its not for every one’s brains though
Well check out the most expensive chess set in the world. More then 10 million USD for a set… Its made in 2006 from 2000 year old bog oak inlaid with 45 million year old rare russian amber. Its made in Russia by “Emelyanov and sons”. Take care. Evgeny Statnov
Go check these out, there’s no prices listed, but I bet they aren’t cheap. http://rockinchoppers.com/www.rockinchoppers.com/home.html
Geez, it’s something how even less-expensive toy cars for kids (#4, not the Matchbox one) have gotten so high-tech. When I was a kid in the 80′s, my neighbor had this little yellow-and-red vehicle that was as advanced as the Flinstones (read: foot power). Now kids can go zooming around in mini-cars with real engines. If I’d had one of those, I probably could have gotten my driver’s license sooner.
10 “Do you take a CHECK?”
The airsoft Minigun is still in production and is in fact CHEAPER than what they say: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_200&products_id=4514
Wow
A gold and diamond original Gameboy: $25k
Realizing you spent 25k on a crappy green, non-lit screen: Priceless
Why not utilise this wasteful expense for the wefare of masses rather than useless toys.
This list reminds me of my ex
i want the minigun gimme
haha my farther bought me that gold gameboy whoop
well im perectly fine with my old stuffed toys, even if they done have diamonds or gold
try this site for free math games: Equivalent Fractions Games for 4th grade
I have this exact same matchbox car green 1966 Opal MINT condition (no box) for SALE! best offer….!
Cool..i wud lyk to buy dem bt i’m not a prodigal son..lol
You really got my hopes up with the opal diplomat, my dad has that matchbox car!!!But I can’t find any place that would value it for more than $150. Where did you get that price? If you want it for nine grand I am sure he would sell.
these are cool i wish i could get 1 of these for my son
you could
how army is expensive that some person only know
Remembered my childhood!!! My Barbie was soo beautiful this Barbie is less then my Barbie.
