[NOTE: This list contains a competition - see bonus entry for details.] Prophesies and predictions are fascinating things. They make us wonder about the future and to seek out fulfillment in past events. Most of us are familiar with Nostradamus and his predictions – hundreds of books have been written about them, in fact, so rather than rehash a tired old topic (which has actually been debunked in part here) we are presenting a list of prophesies that, hopefully, most of you have never heard of. If you can think of others be sure to share them in the comments.

Irlmaier was a simple German man who, in the 1950s, made predictions of a third world war. This is a small sampling of what he claimed the third world war would look like: “Everything calls peace. Shalom! Then it will occur — a new Middle East war suddenly flares up, big naval forces are facing hostility in the Mediterranean — the situation is strained. But the actual firing spark is set on fire in the Balkans: I see a ‘large one’ falling, a bloody dagger lies beside him –then impact is on impact. Two men kill a third high-ranked. They were paid by other people. One of the murderers is a small black man, the other a little bit taller, with bright-colored hair. I think it will be at the Balkans, but I cannot say it exactly. [...] Immediately the revenge comes from across the large water. However the yellow dragon invades in Alaska and Canada at the same time. But he comes not far. And then it rains a yellow dust in a line. When the golden city is destroyed, it begins…” Most interesting in these predictions is the fact that he believes the war will begin in the Middle East which seems certain to many people in the 21st century. You can read his full prediction here.

I am a great fan of St Hildegard – a polymath nun from the 12th century and, while she is very well known for her incredible contributions to classical music and literature, she is not so well known for her prophesies (of which there were many). In one prediction it appears she is referring to the destruction of the United States: “”Before the Comet comes, many nations, the good excepted, will be scoured with want and famine. The great nation in the ocean that is inhabited by people of different tribes and descent by an earthquake, storm and tidal waves will be devastated. It will be divided, and in great part submerged. That nation will also have many misfortunes at sea, and lose its colonies in the east through a Tiger and a Lion. The Comet by its tremendous pressure, will force much out of the ocean and flood many countries, causing much want and many plagues. [After the] great Comet, the great nation will be devastated by earthquakes, storms, and great waves of water, causing much want and plagues. The ocean will also flood many other countries, so that all coastal cities will live in fear, with many destroyed. All sea coast cities will be fearful and many of them will be destroyed by tidal waves, and most living creatures will be killed and even those who escape will die from a horrible disease.” She also predicted that peace would return to Earth when the French throne is restored (very interesting when you consider that it had not been destroyed at that time). You can read more about St Hildegard and her prophesies here.

Baba Vanga was a blind Bulgarian woman (born 1911, died 1996) who was a herbalist and alleged mystic who made many predictions for the future. She became incredibly popular due to her so-called mystical powers. When she died huge crowds attended her funeral. Among her many predictions she claimed that by 4599 man would achieve immortality and that less than 100 years later we would begin assimilating with the aliens we meet on the hundreds of planets we will have populated. She claimed that in 4509 man will become sufficiently developed that he will begin to communicate with God directly. In 2221, while searching for extraterrestrial life man will come into contact with something truly terrible (though she didn’t state what). Closer to our own time she predicted a change in the Earth’s orbit in 2023. Curiously she predicted the beginning of World War III in 2010, which does not obviously appear to have happened – though her followers say the machinations may be in place for this to happen.

On June 26, 2000, the well known third secret of Fatima was revealed by Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI), accompanied by a theological commentary. The secret referred to a Pope being killed and a city in ruins (full text here). What most people don’t know is that during the many years in which the secret was hidden from all but a few eyes, portions of it (and hints at what it contained) were leaked, by people who had either read the secret or spoken to Sister Lucia (the seer who penned it – pictured above). The leaked information did not correspond with the secret released by the Vatican. Consequently a large number of people believe that the Vatican document is a fake, released to avoid the scandal that would occur if the real secret got out. Purportedly the real secret refers to an apostasy in the Church starting with the Pope (in other words, the Pope/Popes would stop teaching the Catholic faith and fall into error). It also describes a council which will pervert the Church (believed by many to be Vatican II which reversed many traditional Catholic principles and beliefs). This was known for at least forty years prior to the release of the Vatican version of the Secret. What is most interesting is that Sister Lucia said the secret had to be released by 1960, or after her death (whichever came first). Why she chose that specific year is unknown but, curiously, the Vatican II council was started in 1962, with both Popes of the council (John XXIII and Paul VI) saying that they would not release the third secret. Another related prophesy is also very interesting; Pope Pius XII (the Pope prior to John XXIII and the II Vatican Council) said: “We believe that the present hour is a dread phase of the events foretold by Christ. It seems that darkness is about to fall on the world. Humanity is in the grip of a supreme crisis.”

Ursula Southeil (Mother Shipton, 1488–1561) is most likely to be the best known prophet on this list. There is much modern debate about the veracity of her predictions, but whether or not she wrote the most famous one attributed to her, she was known as a prophetess at the time of Samuel Pepys, as he wrote about the Royal family discussing her predictions. Here are some of her more interesting prophesies:
1. A carriage without horse will go, Disaster fill the world with woe. In London, Primrose Hill shall be In center hold a bishops sea.
2. Around the world men’s thoughts will fly, Quick as the twinkling of an eye. And water shall great wonders do, How strange, and yet it shall come true.
3. In water, iron then shall float As easy as a wooden boat. Gold shall be seen in stream and stone, In land that is yet unknown.
4. And England shall admit a Jew, Do you think this strange? But it is true! The Jew that once was led in scorn, Shall of a Christian then be born. [Britain creating the Israeli state?]
5. For in those wondrous far off days, The women shall adopt a craze To dress like men, and trousers wear And to cut off all their locks of hair. They’ll ride astride with brazen brow, As witches do on broomsticks now.
A larger set of these quotes can be found here.

Mitar Tarabich is a little known prophet from Serbia. He lived from 1829 – 1899, and is believed to have predicted many events relating to Serbia in the 1930s, 1940s and World War II:
“After [Tito] our land will be governed by some kind of commission, but it will never be as it was. Even though the people in our kingdom will forget about misery and hunger and will live in great wealth, brother will start to hate and think evil of brother…. The Serbs will separate from each other, and they will say: “I am not a Serb, I am not a Serb.” The unholy one will infiltrate this nation and bed with Serbian sisters, mothers and wives. He will sire such children that among the Serbs, since the beginning of the world, these will be the worst of offspring. Only weaklings will be born, and nobody will be strong enough to give a birth to a real hero.”
He also made other predictions about the future, relating mostly to technology: “Men will build a box and within will be some kind of gadget with images… “, “Man will travel to other worlds to find lifeless deserts there…”, “Those who will read and write different books with numbers will think that they know the most…”.

Robert Nixon was a young man who worked as a plowboy in the county of Cheshire, England, in the late 15th century. Because he rarely spoke, and usually babbled incomprehensibly when he did, Nixon was thought to be mentally retarded. Despite this, he came out with a number of surprising (and apparently accurate) predictions of the future. Here are a few of them:
“The weary eagle shall to an island in the sun retire, where leaves and herbs grow fresh and green. There shall he meet a lady fair” – this is believed to be a prophesy of Napoleon who was sent to St Helena in 1815 – an island with an abundance of rare plants and named for Helen of Troy who was a “lady fair”.
Another curious prophesy is believed by some to predict the worldwide use of cigarettes: “All sorts will have chimneys in their mouths”.
In addition to the above, Nixon is believed to have predicted voyages to the moon, travel by rockets, RVs, voice recording devices and lightbulbs. When he was summoned to the court of Richard III he refused to make any prophesies except that he would be starved to death. The King ordered him to be kept in the kitchen, but a cook (unwittingly) locked him in a cupboard where he starved to death.

The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy, is a list of 112 short phrases in Latin. They purport to describe each of the Catholic popes (along with a few anti-popes), beginning with Pope Celestine II (elected in 1143) and concluding with a pope described in the prophecy as “Peter the Roman”, whose pontificate will end in the destruction of the city of Rome. What is most interesting about this prophecy is that the current pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI (listed as the “Glory of the Olive” – Benedict is the founder of the Benedictine monks whose symbol is the olive branch) is the last Pope before Peter the Roman. Tying this in with other aspects of Catholic eschatology (the study of the end times) which generally describes a great apostasy in the Church prior to the second coming of Christ, many Catholics believe that we are now in the end times and that the next pope will be the last before the final judgment. Here is the text of the prophecy as it relates to the final Pope:
“In the last persecution of the Holy Roman Church, Peter the Roman will hold the see (lit. “sit”), who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations: and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [Rome] will be destroyed, and the terrible judge will judge his people. The End.”
You can read the full list here.

Mormon readers amongst us may be familiar with this prophesy, but most of us aren’t. The White Horse Prophecy is a statement purported to have been made in 1843, by Joseph Smith (founder of the Mormon religion). According to the prophecy, the Mormons would “go to the Rocky Mountains and … be a great and mighty people”, identified figuratively with the White Horse described in the Apocalypse of St John. The prophecy further predicts that the United States Constitution will one day “hang like a thread” and will be saved “by the efforts of the White Horse”. “A terrible revolution will take place in the land of America, such as has never been seen before; for the land will be left without a Supreme Government, and every specie of wickedness will be practiced rampantly in the land. Father will be against son and son against father; mother against daughter and daughter against mother. The most terrible scenes of bloodshed, murder and rape that have ever been imagined or looked upon will take place.” Smith believed that the US Constitution was written by the inspiration of God and that the Mormon religion would save it – and America during this time he prophesied.

St Nilus was a 5th century ascetic monk who was a disciple of St John Chrysostom (a doctor of the Church). He made a prophecy (though some dispute it dates from his time) relating to the 20th century which is striking in its foresight. Here are a few particularly pertinent sections of the prophesy (you can read the entire thing here) – the last phrase is particularly interesting:
After the year 1900, toward the middle of the 20th century, the people of that time will become unrecognizable. When the time for the Advent of the Antichrist approaches, people’s minds will grow cloudy from carnal passions, and dishonor and lawlessness will grow stronger. Then the world will become unrecognizable. [...] People’s appearances will change, and it will be impossible to distinguish men from women due to their shamelessness in dress and style of hair. [...] At that time the morals and traditions of Christians and of the Church will change. People will abandon modesty, and dissipation will reign. Falsehood and greed will attain great proportions, and woe to those who pile up treasures. Lust, adultery, homosexuality, secret deeds and murder will rule in society. [...] At that time men will also fly through the air like birds and descend to the bottom of the sea like fish. And when they have achieved all this, these unhappy people will spend their lives in comfort without knowing, poor souls, that it is deceit of the Antichrist…

It has been some time since we ran a competition and, as work is getting underway on our new book, it seemed like a good time to give away a few copies of our previous ones. When tomorrow’s list is published we will select three commenters at random from this list to win a copy of both of our books (that is a giveaway of six books in total). The competition is open to anyone from any country (not just the US) so be sure to comment. Comments should be relevant to the list, and not just vain repetitions in order to secure a prize! If you are stuck for an idea on what to say, perhaps you can give us your own prediction on how the world will end.
[Update: the winners have been chosen! They are omnilogist, DumDum, and hanschip21. Please email me (jamie@frater.com) with your real names and street addresses so I can organize the shipping of your prizes.]

Nice post but it’s weird reading this while watching Japan being hit by the earthquake/tsunami..
yeah.. you’re right! with a magnitude of 8.9..is it the highest magnitude yet happen?
About the fifth highest.
Actually, it’s the 7th largest ever
The highest magnitude recorded is magni 9.6 in chile in 1960
How the world ends? Well there are many many ways to end our way of life.
The past 10 years we have seen natural disasters happen with no precedent and some of them can be directly attributed human factor. Like greenhouse gases and overpopulation of cities (especially coastal cities which are susceptible to hurricanes).
Now China and India are pushing through with projects that will pollute the environment even more. USA is the most polluting country still but makes some effort towards greener technologies.
Predictions say that in about 50 years and my opinion much less, ocean water belt will cease to exist and environmental destruction will occur. Things are still reversible but not if we keep at it like this.
Now this has nothing to do with occultist stuff and hexes but hard facts and science.
The greatest forces in our world are natural forces. Of course some of us may survive or maybe not but whatever the case it will be the end of the world as we know it.
I studies atmospheric sciences and climate change back in 2006. Through research I conclude that if we do nothing we don’t need a war to destroy ourselves.
I saw it on the news this afternoon.
I felt it today. With this year off crazy animals, natural disasters, brewing war, who’s to say parts of this list may yet be fairly accurate?
There’s over 300 people dead and fires all up the coast. I feel lucky to be in the southern part of Japan, but still… it’s the biggest quake on record.
My prayers go out to all those who are and are to be affected by the quake
Just one more in a long line “birth pangs” that Jesus spoke about.
Kinda makes one wonder if the 2012 world end is coming in a little early
If you take the two dates, the earthquake in Christchurch, and the earth quake in Japan… you get 12/21/2012….gulp….
don’t panic… the earthquake here in Christchurch was the 22nd Feb, could have been 21st where you live but it was the 22nd here so lets go by our date!
feels like its the process of 2012
Its the Myans! Its all true! Run to the hills!
you know that they’re saying that other countries could get affected by this earth quake as well?like my home country of Nicaragua.
that makes me sad
I was thinking the same thing. scary… :[[[
BULL *****, nothing will happen. Its just a crap, we people know what we are doing for saving our mother earth, and has started thinking saving humanity.
it will probably be from solar flare that this world will have never known.
NO SERAS TU AL ANTICRISTO BULL.?
That ugly chick in six is awesome!!
And Robert Nixon is def the gerber baby growed up.
YES!
The shortest man will overtake the strongest but only after the weakest, who is taller that the shortest but shorter than the strongest, eats the bluest, who is taller than the strongest but shorter than the weakest, and when men eat ants like aardvarks, war and famine will decimate the world’s population. Bam. Prophesized.
But it is neat to see what coincidences spring up with some of these. Neato list. Also, who is tallest? Shortest? Most hungry?
Wonderful, let’s sign you up for a tour. You’re the perfect seer, we can’t make sense but it sounds so good!
While reading your comment, the image of a high Indian man in Bermuda shorts came to mind
Lol this was brilliant
It truly make you wonder what humans are really capable of
Humans are capable of believing nonsense. Oh my God this really kooky old broad, the one who scares the crap out of all the kids, you know the one with no teeth just told me that the Earth will rumble sometime in the next 100 years… and guess f’ing what? There was an f’ing earthquake, so that means she was right. And then she said there was gonna be fire’s on Earth and Volcanoes is fires so that was f’ing true too. Then she said that flying machines will go over the big water and see people who have different clothes than me…you’re not gonna f’ing believe this, think about it planes fly to other countries and people don’t wear J-Lo jeans in China but I just don’t know what “a big water” could mean its shrouded in so much mystery and language.
Nonsense like the stuff Nostradamus wrote. I personally think there’s no meaning to any of his stuff. All a load of mad ramblings.
I’m not gonna make a comment on the truth or fiction of these prophecies, but do you have to be such a douche? First off the bat, guessing that there’s gonna be an earthquake in the next 100 years isn’t the same as predicting iron ships before they existed, or that women will cut their hair short and wear shirts and trousers (which, if you’d done any research whatsoever, you’d know was unheard of at the time and would have been considered totally insane) in the 1500s. Not to mention more than one of them saying that men will fly through the air and cross the bottom of the ocean, predicted in the 5th century, before the concept of flying was considered even vaguely plausible by the world. I don’t know whether it was luck or not, but I’m not stupid and ignorant enough to start having a go at somebody whose opinions differ from your own.
Yeah, exactly. These predictions, as well as some Hopi prophecies that I’ve read, are remarkably accurate and telling.
Damn 8.9 earthquake in japan … It’s not good cus a tsunami 13ft wiped a bunch of home away .
I think you might mean 13 metres.
i think he haz meening meeters. 13ft makez me hapay. i cood surf this bayby :[
What are you an lolcat?
So, the concept of androgyny, especially in women, was a big point of contention for anyone who was born before the 17th Century. That’s interesting.
And the 3rd Secret of Fatima…not something I’d recommend reading, in the middle of the night, when everything is quiet and still.
Definitely. The alteration of gender roles was a well explored topic by writers. With a society so clearly defined by gender, any breach of that standard makes for interesting insights. For example, I’m taking two literature classes, one on Shakespeare and one on Chaucer, and just this last week we have had discussions on how the authors gender-bend, so to speak. Specifically, the Wife of Bath and Antony & Cleopatra, if you’re interested.
Well actually, I’m interested.
Does it mean you’ll copy/paste your notes here?
It means I have already provided you with the character/play to which I was referring, so you can go read them on your own
Aw no, I’ve read enough Shakespeare to last me a lifetime.
I would genuinely be interested in notes from your class tho.
My favorite would have to be the woman who predicts we will live forever and colonize the galaxy.
Yeah me too. That part about encountering something scary sounds like a Lovecraft story.
ok these predictions are pretty creepy, but rather than the end of the world and the Antichrist as depicted in no.1 , maybe these people got a glimpse at modern life and were so shocked by what they saw they automatically thought it was the end or some kind of abomination, maybe their minds couldn’t process it any other way ? Seriously never really believed in prophesy but this list makes a damn good argument . Also how come almost every soothsayer/future reader person (in movies and cartoons as well as on this list ) are scary and ugly , one looks like a emperor from the dark side (also looks like she can suck your soul right outta your ass , seriously Jesus-god imagine waking up seeing that standing over your bed and when she points at you like that you better look over your shoulder for the grim reaper, scariest f u c k i n g lady i ever saw and she has magic powers, im calling witch on this one )and the other looks like “popo” from beer fest . -www.google.co.za/imgres?imgurl =http://media.screened.com/uploads/0/770/256088-beerfest_johan_super.png&imgrefurl=http://www.screened.com
the great rockers, bluesmen will either die or walk away from their crafts, their skills, their vocations; leaving the next generation with nothing but recycled, digitally-sampled techno-grooves, quasi-synth rhythms, pseudo-songs of violence-laden gansta-rap, acid pop, and simpering, saccarine, soulless slush. Departing forever taking with them the vital musical legacies of Metal ,blues and rock and roll
and when those flames flicker and expire, the light of the world is extinguished because the music which has moved mankind through eight decades through the millennium will whither and die on the vine of abandonment and neglect . All the world will crumble into a sea of cheesy, sappy , ignorant, putrid noise . Propagated by the very people who claim to carry on its legacy . They will recycle so much of their own sonic plastic junk-food that they consume each other in the shadow of smelling their own farts . And one handsome great large penis-ed man will say , i told you so .
He’s a prophet!
And the evil beast shall rise and lo mankind will weep and wail for mankinds song shall be ended and the name of the beast shall be Bieber.
I’m so glad to know that I wasn’t the only one to think that Bieber was a sign of the end of days! I only wish it was a prophecy we could have prevented…
Ditto!
the copious amount of hair (man-bangs?) covering his forehead is a conspicuous effort to hide the mark of the eeebil. either that or he is harry potter gone wrong.
So very very eeebil! Killitkillit!!!!
When I read the first half I thought, “Wow, someone other than me is quoting Shepherd of Hermas.” Then the last line made me laugh.
I told you so…
Interesting list, I never use to believe in prophecies but number one is very strange.
How I think the world would end? Hmm… let’s see…
The year 2012, december… people would panic from all those stupid predictions, will go wild and the military will be ready. It will be like a global revolution; then some idiot from a military base, or a rebel who broke into a military base will (incidentally) fire a nuclear missile towards another country. Then all countries will fire nuclear missiles towards other countries and we’ll get screwed. Fin
The number one entry is as insightful as it is hilarious and also somewhat creepy.
It’s fantastic to see Listverse finding such varied and ‘less known’ facts and historical events.
My predictions are as follows
1. Beware of the man with the golden gun
2. At dawn when the seven count strikes six, in the eastern sky his face will appear
3. Red hot his wrath may be, but cold in heart will the doom he makes us
4. The antichrist will descend from the golden throne, sometime in the year 2013
Not to long to wait now peoples
There will come a time of great revolt, whe the poeple shall no longer hold to the conventions set by their leaders. Snakes will be revealed in public, and smiles will become tears of fear. With no pretense behind which they can hide, the poeple shall tremble in fear, righteous fear.

Dang I can’t believe the last one was so precise. Wow it’s amazing how people back than can see us today. Must of been a total shock! Oh btw I want to win a book please
I predict….. That I’m gonna wi the book
Right so maybe there have been SO many predictions over the years that some of them came true, strangely only the smaller events that people have been predicting have come true and the large ones (such as the world ending) seem to be swept under the rug.
And I just wanna say, how can the Robert Nicon prophecies be classed as actual prophecies? Surely a statement that vague can be interpreted in just about 1000 ways?
That is because the ‘big prophecies’ are always katastrophic events told in vague words which will make everyone want the prophets solution to it.
Like your doctor telling you you have cancer (since years) and you will probably, someday, maybe die from it, but luckily there is a ‘cure’ for it, it just costs a bunch and will make you even more sick but at least you can die from old age again, maybe.
Well, here comes my prophecy:
You all will die someday, not all on the same day particular, just someday!
And that I won’t get a book for that.
But who knows, maybe I’m just a fraud too. :p
I predict….. That I’m gonna win the book
Good luck
This is exactly what i’m going tuohrgh this season , i have received a number of prophecies regarding my ministry and actually it was first dreams of me ministering to the multitudes and prophecy to me was a confirmation , but right now honestly speaking i try as much as i can to run away from prophets because i so much attract their attention and i would receive more or less the same prophecy aout my ministry and nobody has ever told me how to activate that prophetic word , yes i spent time fellowshiping with God ,meditate on the word of God and reach out to people , yes right now i feel barren , my prayer life has dropped , i feel things are hidden for me , dont know what to do to get to my next level , i’m drifting and have lack of direction , i feel i need to spend time alone and even when i pray i dont know what t ask God anymore so when i enter into my prayer closet i just worship Him pray in tongues and just thank Him for what He is doing , what comes into my spirit right now is that Paul was there for Timothy , Samuel was there for Saul and David , Elijah was there for Elisha , i believe i need a midwife someone who will unlock or help me give birth to what im carrying, im not content i need of God now than i ever did before , i sense a disconnection of some sort , and i can hear myself weeping deep from within , i really dont want the baby im carrying t be aborted please help me i need direction , one prophet of God told me that the anointing upon my life has overstayed and until now i wondered whatmust i do , i said yes to the calling and i’m making myself available to be used my God and i’m in a big church were it is so difficult to even talk to my pastor about what im going , the dreams i’m seeing ,because it depends on who you are to see the Pastor , May the Almighty use you to minister direction into my life in a level at which i will be able to comprehend and understand it , God bless you as you do that
hhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
I am surprised not to see the infamous Edgar Cayce on the list!
He was too famous – these are prophesies you ‘DON’T’ know
much condolences to the people in japan… nyway loved the list, scary as ***** tho
Woooooo First
I’ve never heard of most of these. Good list. I especially liked the list on the popes.
Nice list! I always like the bizarre lists!
I predict that 3 people, other than me, will win 2 books each.
you never know what might happen in the future some of tiere guys might be spot on for all we know sure some of them sound crazy but what if they aren’t ?
Enjoyable list. Number one was chilling. Best part of it all though is we dont get to know how or when it ends.
Baba Vanga looks like one of the Sith Lords in the Star Wars Universe.
2 thumbs up !!
The trouble with so called “prophecies” is that they are deliberately vague and can be twisted and manipulated to fit any scenario. Also only after an incident is a “prophecy” attributed to it. If they were accurate they could be prevented.
So true! I was hoping I’d come across someone pointing this out before I had to try and do it myself eloquently….
Er, actually not all prophecies are vague, nor are they all provided only after the events, nor will they be prevented even if / when given – I happen to know for sure that a prophecy was given to police in Australia 3 days BEFORE the London bombings; that London was going to be bombed in the London underground railway system, and they were told it would absolutely happen within 2- to -14 days….. (just don’t anyone ask me HOW I know, OK……suffice to say, that I do know this with 100% certainty……and the psychic concerned was also supposed to be speaking with police about a real and unrelated matter, but somehow just went into a type of trance in the meeting and all the words just came out, they couldn’t get her off the subject of the bombings, and then she left the meeting without any answers or a solution to her original matter and totally forgot about the prophecy it until 3 days later when it came on the news…..). The disbelieving Aussie cops (….you have to understand that many cops in OZ don’t even believe in profilers or profiling & still consider that science to be mumbo-jumbo!!! LOL) were also told in that meeting that similar bombings were being planned in Australia too after London, but that unlike London it was not too late for Australia (the psychic already knew they would not pass on the warning to UK police….which they didn’t) and the names of 2 Australian cities were then also provided…along with their future “Targets” plus much more detailed info which incidentally also came true…..such as that the British prime minister would have all the major World leaders standing right behind him in condemnation of the London attacks (which happened at the G20 summit or such conference, almost straight after the bombings), and that he would make a “Churchill-like speech” (also came true) and that it would be biggest manhunt in British history etc etc – All came true within days of the prophecy. Aussie cops didn’t believe any of it at the time of course, but strangely enough, 3 days later when London was actually bombed – exactly as they were told it would be – they were suddenly very polite and interested (stunned, actually, and comments such as “very strange indeed” were made repeatedly….) and so they NOW wanted much more info on the looming threat to Australia and so they sent out terror specialists to speak to the psychic…. The terror specialist cops now wanted the psychic to provide the FULL NAMES and FULL ADDRESSES of the terrorists, on the spot. If she couldn’t do it on the spot, then forget about it. She told them she couldn’t do that, as she never receives names etc, but hey were given one (very, very unusual, foreign) first-name, and told if they wanted more help they would need to provide some training for her, such as how to switch it off & on at will, and other techniques, and work with the (honest – no money or fame is desired) psychic – the psychic was told that cops in Australia “Don’t work with psychics”, nor is there any funding for such work unlike Britain & elsewhere… So she couldn’t help them, but she did give them one name which she said would be one of the terrorists names, when they caught them. Shortly after that meeting, members of a large terrorist cell were arrested in Australia, and the same 2 Australian cities & their targets were publicly named as the intended targets…. and one of the terrorists had the same, very unusual middle-eastern first-name as had been given to the specialist cops at the second meeting, months or so earlier (BTW, the psychic is not from middle-east, nor had she ever heard the strange foreign name until only a couple of days before the second police meeting, when for the first time in her life she met an Iraqi person with this unusual name…).. Incidentally, just before this all occurred, that same psychic had gone to a professional psychic (….ironic, but true – most psychics don’t get stuff about themselves, so have to go to another psychic for readings..). The professional psychic had a different message on this visit, and told her she was going to suddenly begin to get visions of major world events & tragedies, something the psychic had never had before and so she just laughed it off at the time (…..this reading was recorded on a audio tape, BTW)……..This is just ONE story, there are so many more I could tell you equally as baffling or strange, but most psychics actually don’t want the fame, or being called horrible names, or crazy – but if anyone thinks having this “Gift” is nice or great, then think again. It’s horrible to see people blown up, or dying (and please, don’t anyone tell me to see a shrink – I have, and she was a total skeptic at first, too LOL!!! – in the end though, on our last visit, she actually tried for2 hours trying convince me that my ability is real, and she said she couldn’t understand why I found it so hard to believe (I have constant doubts, as it’s just so unbelievable and illogical, and I’m more a scientific type and so I’m torn with it, yet I know it exists because it’s happened many times, since childhood) and she then revealed that she’d actually witnessed it herself many times in our sessions, that she was totally freaked out by it in the beginning but she now knew it was real as apparently she’d seen & heard so much in our sessions that it had totally changed her life-long beliefs (….apparently she was told things that I could not have possibly known, plus told of many news events before they happened etc, and also if she was thinking about some problem before our session then I’d give her the answer to it & then just continue the original conversation, totally unaware & no memory of it until she eventually told me years later……. There’s also one cop who knows I am not a fake because, well, how else could I know unpublished, secret facts in minute details about crimes he’s working on…..he too was a total skeptic until he knew me. Now, anyone who really knows any cops will tell you that cops do not believe in much other than cold hard facts and are not easily fooled either. Shrinks are not illogical idiots either. Science one day will hopefully find an explanation for it all, and maybe a way for those of us with it to manage it better (ie: turn it off….), but until then, anyone with real ability faces ruin, scorn & ridicule by idiots with tiny little brains but big mouths. If a doctor misdiagnoses you we don’t say “well, he’s not really a doctor because he misdiagnosed your cancer”. No other ability or job on earth is put under such scrutiny, and strain as psychic ability. Unlike doctors, we are expected to be right 100% of the time or else it means we must be fakes and charlatans, but doctors can have many mistakes and you can die from their mistakes, but that’s ok, they are still doctors but one wrong premonition and the psychic is a fraud. Yeah, it’s a great gift for sure, just pray to God your kid doesn’t have it.
Oh, and to answer someone else here – not all psychics are ugly old hags
“In the third millenia war will ravage the land of the free, they shall fall at the throne of the advanced race”. Anyone heard of this prophecy? Or what it means?
The Prophecy of St Nilus is quite interesting! And Robert Nixon Prophesies… creepy! I also like Jim Rohn’s predictions:
“Next decade is going to be just like the last decade. Opportunities mixed with difficulties!”
Fight? Just fight for justice and truth!! What we all need to do is eaccpt Jesus the Christ, the Messiah, our Savior, into our hearts and repent from sinning. The time is RIGHT NOW. My brother, the End Days are here 444, The AntiChrist will come 666, Pray the Rosary 555, Trust in God 777, and eaccpt Jesus as your Lord Savior, as the ONLY way out of this corrupt and dieing world. I will pray for you my friend. EVERYTHING will be revealed when the time is right. God bless you
Those books would fit perfectly to my bathroom.
The world will end when the Cleveland Cavaliers wins a championship.
So the world will last forever?
Alois Irlmaier might be very very correct. Not only about WWIII starting in the Middle East. However what really surprised me is this quote ‘the actual firing spark is set on fire in the Balkans’ which might be interpretation of what is currently happening in Croatia now.Civil unrest and violence on the streets are usual sight in last 20-30 days.If you look at the news you’ll see that it is correct. However I looked even further and this quote ‘the other a little bit taller, with bright-colored hair’ might describe current President of Croatia. This one is also bit creepy ‘Immediately the revenge comes from across the large water.’ which could be interpreted as Adriatic Sea and again could be connected with other prophecies set in Italy such as the Prophecy of the Popes that is also coming to an end.
Great list.Creepy but great.
to me the whole balkan bit of the prophecy sounds too much like franz ferdinand assassination in sarajevo which sparked wwI … dunno, gavrilo princip was sort of short and dark haired..
I’m predicting sun with a slight chance of rain towards the afternoon. All bow before me!
12:00 pm here , just starting to drizzle…….. really.
Told you
SHE’S A WITCH! BURN HER!
I’m not a witch! I’m not a witch!
It really seems to me that 2012 might ready be coming.with all the earthquakes and now tsunami warnings it really scares me. But yet it also seems like something that can’t happen. I hope so I am not ready for this to be over!
2012 is coming no matter what…as for if we see the end of the world in 2012, I find it unlikely.
Could Prophecy Number 10 be the Libyan Conflict…???
God knows I have nothing but respect and even admiration for Jamie, but he might wanna check his sources better. For example, the Mother Shipton link is full of made-up bull*****.
It’s not the first time I’ve noticed sources or “facts” that are called into question with a couple of minutes Googling in Jamie’s lists.
That makes me a bit confused, because listverse is presented (or so I assume) as a serious website dedicated to providing information, not a mash-up of tinfoil-hat conspiracy websites.
There’s a terrific amount of knowledge in this atlrice!
There shall in that time be rumors of things going astray, erm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia-work base, that has an attachment. At that time, a friend shall lose his friend’s hammer, and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight o’clock.
Well, the secret from fatima, i think, is just some BS. Because the vatican neve, never, never reveal smth that could put them in a bad light.
IDk about you, but baba from bulgaria rulz!
You have it around the wrong way, I think you need to read it again – the article says the Vatican are not saying it’s anything that puts them in a bad light, and they have instead claimed it is something entirely different – but rumors have been around for years that the Vatican is lying and that the secret was actually about the popes etc, and so some people believe that the Church is lying because as you yourself stated, the Vatican would never reveal something that puts them in a bad light… (the Vatican church lie? Conspire? Cover-Up? Never!)
Well the first one is nothing strange except for the flying.
And about the passage : “Falsehood and greed will attain great proportions, and woe to those who pile up treasures. Lust, adultery, homo*****uality, secret deeds and murder will rule in society.” I wonder which society at which time doesn’t have lust, greed, adultery, murder and homo*****uality.I am sure that even this prophet lived in such society. And the oh so scary thought that people started to think for themselves instead of 2000 year doctorine ruling their life and the emancipation of women, how dare we think that we are equal. We can’t have now , can we? Even the technology predictions aren’t entirely accurate – “At that time men will also fly through the air like birds and descend to the bottom of the sea like fish.” – this sounds more like he had been thinking that people will grow feathers and scales and fly or swim on their own, nowhere did he mentioned machines (How many people through the centuries had been thinking and fantasising about such machines).
Also baba Vanga was a fraud,my guess is that the others also are delusional or hallucinating people.
The world will probably end in billion years or so when its suppose to.
I can’t imagine us nuking each other into oblivion, its just too political. I also don’t think climate change will end us either. Sure it might change the Earth and how we live in it, but I doubt it would end it and kill all life.
Hey guys! I’m from Bulgaria and I’d say we’re pretty fond of prophecies , predictions and superstitions around here. Baba Vanga is probably one of the best-known Bulgarian women and has many believers in the country (and abroad as well). It is interesting to point out that she made a lot of predictions that came true during her lifetime and this is the reason why her words became so influential. After her death, she is considered a saint.
clearly good looks are not necessary for seeing the future!
I believe it’s compulsory to be butt-ugly
You know… I’ve been reading Listverse for MONTHS and just decided to make an account to comment.
My favorite thing about prophesies is watching how often they aren’t fulfilled. Usually, its only the vague prophesies that have the slightest believability. The world is NEVER going to end folks. The end has been predicted for thousands of years. Might as well get used to it.
Hello and welcome. I hope you enjoy your stay. Thank you for choosing Listverse comment section.
I found it interesting that there was a notice of May 21, 2011 being Judgment Day in the midst of this list. I’ll read Ezekiel in order to ascertain some form of rationale for that particular prediction. After all, May 21 is in the very near future. It’s hard to nail down what is prophecy and what is merely fear-mongering. The end of the world has been predicted since time began.
Son of a b@!&%!!! Why does it have to be the day before my birthday?
Day *after* mine
It’s especially interesting since the people who are spreading this believe in the literal truth of the bible, yet the bible blatantly states that no one will know when judgment day is coming.
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night …” II Peter 3:10
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” Matthew 24:3
I am not a Christian, but I SO agree with you! In Christianity, Islam, and I guess Judaism, as they were based around similar beliefs, it says only God knows about Judgement Day and when it will happen. It’s funny how people claim to be very religious and devout followers and neglect that statement with their prophecies and predictions.
Hi Chontae, thank you for leaving your note.It cntraiely sounds as though you have had a prophetic gift upon your life from a very young age. The enemy tried to take you from the faith with a counterfeit calling of Clairvoyancy, but now you are back where you belong. What a wonderful testimony!I am wondering if you also have a gift of discernment, which can give you insight into the spiritual realm (see here: )I believe that God is redeeming the gift on your life and will use you powerfully for His glory.A couple of people I have known with a similar story to yours found it best to not use the prophetic gifting for a period, while they got their faith on track, and journeyed to freedom, so don’t worry about the 2 years or any further time you may need to be released in your prophetic gift again. You will get to a place where you are comfortable in being yourself and the way God has wired you with your gifts, and become freed from the fear that you have had. It’s OK to be on a journey with this, our Father is so wonderfully patient. The main thing is to allow yourself to decide to move forward, one small step at a time. When you do start to step out in your gift, you may find it helpful to ask your pastor to allow you to run what you receive past him or her, or to appoint someone who can be that person for you. As you find a safe place to express your gift, one this under leadership, you will receive the confirmation that you are hearing from God, and grow in the confidence again.Do keep in touch on the blog and read some of the posts I have written on prophecy and discernment. I answer comments like the one you have just left, so feel free to ask questions this way again, and keep an eye out on this topic over the next few weeks.
Very true my dear. The book of Revelations states categorically that the seven trumpets will start in the Clay feet of Nebuchadnezer era which we are in at the moment. Nothing major will happen in 2012 save for the euphoric beliefs and the natural catastrophes that will hit the earth. I am a Christian who doesn’t believe in all the non nonsensical predictions. The hour no one knows. You ain’t sure about tomorrow also. To be on the safe side is to be “harsh as it may sound”.. in tandem with Christ Jesus through salvation and leaving the immorality of Sodom and Gomorrah to eat up the current generation. Being born again and receiving the gift of eternal life through full immersion in water “baptism” of the fire and the spirit is all we need. Then confess loudly by mouth that Jesus truly died for your sins and he was LORD and Saviour, then believe in your heart and you are SET for life. If you thought life on earth was sweet….life in heaven will be indescribably even sweetest. The devil can’t lie to me or make me think I am wiser than thee. Trust in Jesus fully and be as fearless as me. I only fear God. Not death, for in dying am sure there is an even better place out there in the after life called Heaven. Hell exists. If you don’t believe, ask the cronies like your very able (sic)”Jay Z” and those else that have sold their souls to the devil for earthly riches. Trust in the only true predictor, the Holy Bible and live forever in a new soul and body like Christs. I fear not because as Corinthians says, “HE who is in me is stronger than he who is in the world, and that is Jesus Christ”. Think about it. I come from Kenya with all the problems we have had in recent times. Obama also had his roots here. Judge not for God only is the ultimate judge. Though humans love experimenting with the bar codes and the biological chips that will install the 666, fear not but put your trust in God the father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Be blessed ohh yee of lil’ faith.
For some reason… the prophecy of the popes scared me the most. It’s so soon, and that’s what I think gets me. I hope they just choose a couple more Johns, and we should be sweet.
But I think that the way humans will go out is going to be a slow and protracted. I think that our evolutionary rate is too slow compared to other organisms (and then there’s all the viri we are unwittingly and practically breeding to kill us), and simply as a result of our slower rate of change – we’ll be left unprepared for whatever will directly oppose us (be it a meteor impact, ice age, runaway greenhouse effect). And many, many humans will not survive. I still think it’s possible for some humans to survive though, but certainly not the current number of humans.
Theoretically, if there was some virus or bacterium which could:
A) Survive without a host for a large enough amount of time.
B) Be transported through air and water.
C) Have a long incubation period (2 weeks at least).
D) Have a 100% fatality rate.
- then almost certainly society as we know it would collapse in a matter of weeks, and potentially almost all humans will die. Sleep tight tonight everyone – for bacteria can trade genes like kids can trade pokemon cards.
Abit too coincidental…
what rubbish.
I predict that people will wonder at how such a frankly pointless comment as this was chosen to win a book. (Which, incidentally, would fit perfectly on my bookshelf between War and Peace and a selection of Bill and Ben the Flowerpot men’s finest adventures.)
The bible says the end times will be preceded by earthquakes. As someone living in Christchurch and seeing what’s happening in Japan on the news, I’m nervous.
start getting nervous when “the big one” hits LA , that would freak me out right now , but seems really really possible to me .
Earthquakes happen every day somewhere on the planet. They are just not always large and/or centered near heavily populated areas.
If an earthquake happens in the Ocean and no one’s around to feel it, does it make a tsunami?
Here is everything you ever wanted to know about tsunamis:
http://ptwc.weather.gov/faq.php
Number 10 answers your question:
“10. Do all large undersea earthquakes generate tsunamis?
No. The earthquake must cause significant vertical deformation of the seafloor in order for a tsunami to occur. Tsunamis are more likely to happen from shallower and larger earthquakes than deeper or smaller ones.”
Now as you can see, if you were trying to equate this to a tree/forest/falling/no one/sound issue, you have grossly mis-philosophized.
even back when the last one was prophecising it must have been obvious the way mankind was going
My parents are catholic, and haven’t shut up about the upcoming end of times. Makes for pleasant dinners.
The way I see it, the world ends every second of the day for someone who dies.
dont ask for whom the bell tolls for tolls for thee
Shoot back at them that the bible says that no one will know when the end of times is coming.
The world will destroyed when i fart!
Joke
I love listverse! -From Philippines
“which has actually been debunked in part here”
The way I see it, that’s unnecessary and maybe even counterproductive since the burden of proof falls on those who believe in prophecies. Prophecies are fantasy. Nothing more, nothing less.
I agree what about the blameless that doesn’t know it’s btteer to sin not know u are than to think about doing it not acting on it,John 3:16 shalt not PERISH which means gone eternaly why would God punish a child taught nothing but blasphemy in that case 99.999% of ppl including small children are doomed and popes are not prophets the Vatican has a lot of skeletons. They talk of different levels of hell whats the sense for a child to be born and die
Im pretty sure my belief in the supernatural is based solely on these lists you guys publish.
I loved it, super cool, but so creepy.
I don’t know what seems to be wrong with me. it’s like i was just dreaming of an earthquake and then a tsunami, and later this afternoon i just learned that Japan had its calamity.
I’ve left the TV on last night maybe I heard it while I’m asleep and it incorporated into my dreams (though not sure if it is possible).
Now I’m reading a prophecies list.
God!
now
I’m loving number 6. Quite an inspiring read! Thanks
Predictions are cool and interesting to read, especially if it seemed to have come true over the course of time. Although if you come to think them, they are just “general guesses”.
Intriguing list. I’ve only heard of one of the entries which is theThird Secret. And it was on Listverse that I learned about it.
Most of these seem like fail to me. Either something predicted already happened long ago and we can’t check if it was really predicted before it happened or it will happen after a long time – still cant check. And the things that relate to our time just didn’t happen – like the WWIII.
You think WWIII won’t happen in our lifetime?
You could say it already did happen 60 years ago. We know it as the Korean War.
Or… Hello, the cold war?
