Narrowing the episodes from thirteen seasons of South Park to just a select ten is no easy task. But someone had to do it. Whether you love or hate the show, there is no denying the huge success and cultural impact of it. By parodying current events and celebrities, the creators manage to produce fresh material that has kept the show from going stale. You may not agree with all of the choices on this list, but if not, just add your own to the comments. Each item contains a video commentary by the creators. Warning: video clips contain some bad language.
This episode starts with a Mormon family moving to South Park. One of the children in the family seems like the perfect child so Stan is recruited to beat him up. The best parts of the episode are when the Mormon family tell of the prophet Joseph Smith, who is the founder of the Mormon religion. Whenever, they are talking about Smith there is an upbeat tune in the background that repeats the words “dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.”
Full title: “The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers”. In this episode the boys are recruited to bring the Lord of the Rings movie to Butters house. Instead, Randy accidentally gives them a hardcore pornography video to bring to his house. After, Butters watches some of the movie he is transformed into Gollum. The show continues with Butters following them while the Parents and Sixth graders are all trying to hunt them and get the movie. All while the unsuspecting Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny try to return the movie to its origins of the movie store in order to remove the evil spell it has.
This episode makes fun of former vice president and presidential nominee Al Gore. In the episode, the Al Gore character is hunting ManBearPig. He claims that ManBearPig is going to destroy the world. The Al Gore also has no friends and recruits the boys to help him, before getting them stuck in a cave. During this episode Cartman eats fake treasure to try to keep the other boys from stealing any of it.
This episode of the show made it because it has the best Randy Marsh scene out of all the South Park episodes. Stan wants to be in a boy band with the other bands. Randy will not let him. The best scene of the show is when Randy breaks down and says that he was in a boy band when he was younger. How he left South Park for the fame, but came home being lame. Indeed, it was a tragic tale. Stan and Randy both end up joining the boys band Fingerband and performing at the mall.
In this episode the boys become confined to Cartman’s basement for twenty one hours a day playing World of Warcraft. They become overweight, get acne, and grow long hair. They only eat hot pockets and never go outside. Cartman even has his mom bring him a bedpan when he has to go to the bathroom so he does not have to leave the computer. I think this scene is disgusting but it makes the episode hilarious.
In this episode the boys get served by some kids from the next town over. They then put together their own dance crew. They find out that Butters used to be a famous tap dancer before an accident that he had when he was younger. During a show his shoe flew off and eleven people were killed in the ensuing chaos. Butters is still traumatized from the event and originally refuses to join the dance crew. He is finally convinced to join the dance crew, the day of the show. He begins to join the dance crew and his shoe flies off knocking down the lights and killing the opposing dance crew. The boys celebrate while Butters gets another memory to suppress.
Cartman pretends to be Butters’ robot friend in order to keep a secret safe, but ends up under a cardboard box for much longer than he hoped. Butters does not let Cartman leave his side and they end up going to Hollywood. Cartman has to come up with movie ideas for Hollywood executives. The whole time Cartman is going without food and water.
This was episode was three in one. It all started when Cartman bet with Kyle that leprechauns where real. If leprechauns are real then Kyle has to suck Cartman’s balls but if they are not then Cartman has to give Kyle ten dollars. The boys go into the forest in search of the leprechaun. They do find him and he warns of a terrorist attack on Imaginationland. The boys all go there but Kyle, Cartman, and Stan escape before the terrorist attack. Butters is left there by himself and must imagine weapons for the good characters before Imaginationland is destroyed. Also Cartman’s case goes before the Supreme Court but he never gets Stan to suck his balls because leprechauns are imaginary.
It’s all fun and games until Butters takes a ninja star to the eye. The boys tell a carnie that their parents are dead in order to get him to sell them weapons. They pretend that they are Japanese warriors. In one scene Cartman says that he is invisible and walks naked across the stage in front of the whole town. The town is in an outrage and it is not because Butters got hit in the eye with a ninja star. It is because Cartman walked across the stage naked. The other boys return the weapons and stay out of trouble.
Cartman buys pubic hair from a ninth grader for ten dollars in order to become a man. When his friends tell him that he needs to grow his own to be a man, he demands his money back. Scott refuses and Cartman comes up with a sick and twisted plot for revenge. I think that how unrealistic yet believable Cartman’s plot was makes this such a great episode. You don’t even believe that what you saw just happened. The episode is just so twisted. The following quote goes along with the picture after Scott finds his mom’s finger in the Chili and Radiohead calls him a baby. Cartman has exacted his revenge upon Scott. “Yeah, yeah, oh let me taste your tears Scott. Ummm, your tears are so yummy and sweet . . . Oh, the tears of unfathomable sadness. Yummy, yummy guys!”

I used to like South Park but I went right off it when they did that Steve Irwin episode. I realise that the comedy is supposed to be irreverant but that was just tasteless.
Dude.. that episode was done years before he died. You do know that, right?
Nice ownage.
No Tom Cruise episode?
“It’s half man….half bear…..half pig.”
I definately need to review every episode before the new season starts.
the “make love, not warcraft” episode has a special place in my heart just cause my brother plays WoW ALL the time lol.
i also loved the episode about the Wii. the one where cartman cant wait 3 weeks to get a nintendo Wii so he tries to freeze himself in the snow so that the wait seems shorter.
(p.s.: im drunk while typing this so i apologize for any mistakes
Yeah! Scott Tenorman should die! Great list. I agree that episode was the best one. Should have included the demonic critters Christmas episode too.
Personally I believe the Trapped in the closet episode should at least be in place of the mormon episode. Just makes you say lol @ scientology.
the best part is when they explain it and say this is actually what they believe.were not making this up lol
great list but admit i thinkthe scientology one should be one it, the closest scene with R. Kelly is brilliant
closet* sorry
I really expected the $cientology episode to be on here. its one of my favorite episodes, that and scott tenorman should die. Good list though.
Imaginationland and ManBearPig shouldn’t be here.
I don’t mind the rest but they still could have been better.
Your blog is crying out for content a) of value b) in English. Do something to fix it, or don’t publish. Unless, that is, you want to be known for crap.
*****
LOL I’ve seen the top 3 and they are hilarious! I was crying with laughter at the part in number 1 where cartman was erm licking his tears.
I would say trapped in the closet, red hot catholic love, follow that egg, d-yikes, mr. garrison’s fancy new vagina, FANTASTIC EASTER SPECIAL, passion of the jew, red sliegh down, elementary school musical, pip (both for those of us with a dry sense of humor), eat, pray, queef, pinewood derby, death camp of tolerance, the jeffersons and cherokee hair tampons can be replaced in any order with 9, 7, 5 and 4.
At Greg (13):
Some of those shouldn’t deserve to be on that list either.
Fantastic easter special, elementary school musical, eat pray queef and pinewood derby aren’t even that funny.
UNDERPANTS GNOMES!!!!
i agree with all but the warcraft episode, i didnt like it much at all. i think i agree with a lot of viewers in saying the trapped in the closet episode belongs on here
i used to love(idolize) south park when i was younger, but now i think they’re corny
These episodes are well chosen, but I miss CARTOON WARS! Struggle between Cartman and Kyle, between South Park and Family Guy, and at last, between political correctness and freedom of speech – both on screen and in reality (Comedy Central chose not to depict Muhammad). This two-parter is perfectly written and arguably one of the best SP episodes.
10 more great South Park episodes not yet mentioned:
Cartman Joins NAMBLA
Mecha-Streisand
Cartmanland
Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants
Christian Rock Hard
Fat Butt & Pancake Head
Cartman Gets An ***** Probe
Casa Bonita
Hooked on Monkey Phonics
Helen Keller The Musical
Stan: We’re the kids who’s names you called last night on your commercial. We’re here to do the shopping spree
Lolly: OH! That’s great!!!
Cartman: You bet your fat clown ass it is!!!!!
I just don’t trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn’t die.
Pahahahah I love it when Butters gets a Ninja star in the eye and everyone thinks he is a poor little dog!!!!
@Chris717 (14): I have to disagree. fantastic easter special, for it’s sacreligous humor, is incredibly funny, while dry, similar to elementary school musical, which, while lacking moist humor, has ironic humor characteristic of a dry and satirical work. You need to kinow who Bill Donahue is to understand fantastic easter special, however. I find pinewood derby funny as well, for satirizing, albeit in a dry manner, the classic stereotypical charcter, and, more importantly, it has an important moral message about the greed and stupidity of man. Eat,pray, queef lacks humor, i agree, but is an accurate reflection ojn our society. Maybe I look at south park too seriously, but, i really can’t help it…
I submitted a top 15 South Park episodes list months ago and it never saw the light of day! Practically all these episodes are season 8 and up, which is when the show started to go downhill (even though it’s still great).
Honestly frater, don’t ask people to submit lists if they’re not even looked at. If they were, mine would have been posted a long time ago, not this one.
everyones on here arguing over what does and doesnt deserve to be up there but the fact is everyone has a different opinion and no one cares what yours is…..
I absolutely love South Park and its biting satire. I would have included:
The Passion of the Jew (their depiction of Mel Gibson is fantastic)
The Biggest Douche in the Universe (for ripping apart that fraudulent scum bag John Edward)
The Death of Eric Cartman
The one where Randy fights at all the baseball games.
No1 and 6 would make it into my top 10.
I also love the way Randy plays a much bigger role in the more recent series. He is hilarious.
@alexman: Nobody cares about your opinion either. Welcome to the Internet.
“he never gets Stan to suck his balls because leprechauns are imaginary”
It should be he never gets kyle to suck his balls.
Very nice list again, i’ve seen all the episodes 3 times or more
I must watch these episodes! Out of the ones I’ve seen… I love the WoW episode. Seriously, that bedpan scene is disgustingly hilarious!
Awesome list!
This list is probably the worst list I have ever seen on this site. All you did was make a resumé of each episode. How about telling us WHY they’re so good? Utterly useless list.
I would put “Breast Cancer show ever” in the list. It’s such a funny show about kids being kids. It certainly is one of my favorites.
Hi. I watched two yesterday – You got F’d in the A, and the one with Michael Jackson (sorry Johnson).
“Christian rock hard” was an awesome episode. “Fat Butt & Pancake Head” deserves to be up there to.
Ah! finally a list on South Park.
Well guys i think you’ll missed :
Bloody Mary
Coon
Man makes love to pig
I have only seen a handful of these shows and none that were on this list. I prefer The Simpsons.
Anyway I did see the Jesus vs Satan one and thought that was pretty funny.
my favorites are asspen, jared has aids, and bebe’s boobs destroy society
-aw jillian, aw thanks wow this is great aw god damn lolol
@dan (36):
‘Here’s your file Doctor’
‘Yeah whatever get out of here’
al gore is a hero and his documentary was a revolutionary work. I don’t know why two seemingly intelligent people would be so critical of such a great man and movie.
One of my favorite scenes from any episode of SP is in the Awesom-o episode. Cartman being reduced to scarfing down a tube of toothpaste because he hadn’t eaten in days.
The episodes are a good choice but the writing is terrible. Since most of us have seen maybe give us something other than a paragraph of synopsis of each. Maybe point out the finer points.
I love Southpark! Specially Kenny and Cartman. For me all of the episodes of Southpark is great!
I love South Park but I’m in agreement with some of our regulars; This list would have been much better had it explained why the episodes/shows are funny rather than just a synopsis. The social commentary and the way the writers take our beliefs/preconceptions and turn them on their ears. Nothing is safe – Christianity, Judaism, Scientology, Rednecks, Metro*****uals – all have absurdities just waiting for someone to point them out.
Personally one of my faves is the Starvin Marvin/Sally Struthers episode. Save the hungry – not because you’ve plenty and it’s the right thing to do – but for a free watch. Sally Struthers eating all the aid food is just a bonus. LOL
The Passion of the Mel is also pretty good – and of course all the more poignant at the moment what with Mr. Religion/family man and his new pregnant girlfriend.
honestly, when i saw the list title i thought it would suck, but this is a good top ten list, you got a lot of the amazing episodes, but really it depends on the viewer, everybody has their favorites
“THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!!!!” from the ‘Goo-Baks’ episode. In my opinion the best South Park episode.
Scott Tenerman is another classic with Radiohead coming in and calling Scott a ‘cry baby’; i didn’t expect Cartman to get his revenge, it was so *****ed up.
imaginaaaaaaaaatioooooooon
Yeah, Southpark used to be funny, before the movie came out. After that, they just tried to push the envelope to see what they could get away with… Family Guy is headed in the same direction.
Scott tenorman must die i was like u must have that and i was so disapointed in the begining but kudo jfrater
like the chilli scott i call it mr and mrs tenorman chilli scott
SUCCUBUS, TREE-FITY
Like having a list of the ten greatest times I had my eye’s poked out with a sharp stick.
Rob Scneider in! ‘derp de derp ta teddely derpa derpa dumb’… Rated PG-13!
That cracks me up. His movies really do suck though
“He’s… A Carrot!!” Rated PG-13!
I know, that's so funny!
Rob Schneider is……A carrot!
Or….KENNY!
I can't remember if there's any more
Finally someone noticed that!
Trapped in the Closet about Tom Cruise? I don’t care what Tom does or doesn’t do. The great thing was telling Scientology beliefs just as they are. They come pre-satirized. You don’t have to do anything to make them hilarious. I still miss Chef, but it was worth it.
don’t they reference scientology in some other episode?
You may not think it’s the best but how could you possibly have any South Park list without the inclusion of “With Apologies to Jesse Jackson”? That episode has by far the funniest scene in the history of television. Not to mention Cartman fights a midget! I can’t believe you snubbed this ep. WTF?
Lmao @chef….”Suck on my chocolate salty balls”…all about a dessert treat….classic!!!!
The Lord of the Rings episode should’ve been #1 imo
Also needs the episode with Korn
Man, Make Love, Not Warcraft shoulda been number one!
I was really hoping to see Woodland Critter Christmas on here
CASA BONITA!
Hello?! the one with the underpants gnomes?
Step 1. Get underpants
Step 2. ???
Step 3. Profit!
Come on people, Fishsticks was a rebirth for this show!
