Drug abuse is a very common problem in most countries so it seemed like a good topic for a list. This is a list of ten of the most abused drugs and the effects they have on people.
1. Heroin
Heroin is an opiate processed directly from the extracts of the opium poppy. It was originally created to help cure people of addiction to morphine. Upon crossing the blood-brain barrier, which occurs soon after introduction of the drug into the bloodstream, heroin is converted into morphine, which mimics the action of endorphins, creating a sense of well-being; the characteristic euphoria has been described as an “orgasm” centered in the gut. One of the most common methods of heroin use is via intravenous injection.
For the last 4 months, my partner and I have been recreationally using heroin. H became our weekend ritual. Lighting candles, playing music, brie and wine and grapes, reading tarot and finally fucking… for hours on end, the most intense beautiful technicolor sex. Each time we did it we got closer to each other. And each time we did it, we wanted to do it again, and again. We tried saying we’d only do it once every two weeks, but that lasted 6 days. We have rules about how much we do in one night, how late we stay up and so on. So far the rules have kept us safe from addiction. Unless you consider the nagging i-don’t-wanna-go-a-weekend-or-have-sex-without-it feelings. We’ve never run out, although, once we were down to our last little bit and I left the vial open on the night stand. I was reaching for the lube when I heard the most sickening sound, the vial falling over. Turns out, I was mistaken, I had remembered to put the cap back on. But in those few seconds of uncertainty, my girl and I shot each other a look we had never seen before.. Fear.
2. Cocaine
Cocaine is a crystalline tropane alkaloid that is obtained from the leaves of the coca plant. It is both a stimulant of the central nervous system and an appetite suppressant, giving rise to what has been described as a euphoric sense of happiness and increased energy. It is most often used recreationally for this effect. Cocaine is a potent central nervous system stimulant. Its effects can last from 20 minutes to several hours, depending upon the dosage of cocaine taken, purity, and method of administration. The initial signs of stimulation are hyperactivity, restlessness, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and euphoria. The euphoria is sometimes followed by feelings of discomfort and depression and a craving to experience the drug again. Sexual interest and pleasure can be amplified. Side effects can include twitching, paranoia, and impotence, which usually increases with frequent usage.
The cocaine arrived and we agreed to use it at a time that translated to three and a half hours after I arrived. It cost $60 for what I was told was an eighth of a gram. This seemed rather expensive, but I was assured that it was ‘high quality product.’ I took the line up my left nostril. After about ninety seconds, I felt my heartbeat increase. It was definitely kicking in. I began to worry a bit, as I could feel my heart pounding and my pulse increasing. I finally felt as if it had reached a plateau. My heartbeat became level, albeit still very high. Many people say that one feels euphoria – being invincible and/or the desire to clean the house. I did not feel either of these (and I did remember to think about these things). For me, the positive effects of cocaine came directly from knowing that I had reached a plateau and I was going to be fine. I felt invigorated, yet also very comfortable.
One of the best treatment for drug addiction is to consult with cocaine rehab centers for recovery.
3. Methamphetamine
Methamphetamime, popularly shortened to meth or ice, is a psychostimulant and sympathomimetic drug. Methamphetamine enters the brain and triggers a cascading release of norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. Since it stimulates the mesolimbic reward pathway, causing euphoria and excitement, it is prone to abuse and addiction. Users may become obsessed or perform repetitive tasks such as cleaning, hand-washing, or assembling and disassembling objects. Withdrawal is characterized by excessive sleeping, eating and depression-like symptoms, often accompanied by anxiety and drug-craving.
We first smoked meth on New Year’s Eve because we heard it was great for sex. I had to work the next day and so saved some to smoke before work in the morning. When I got home another g was waiting for me and I smoked every day but one until I finally quit three months later. For three weeks we smoked meth with little consequence, then my skin became fragile and in addition to breaking out, started to swell. I was really worried because I was constantly thirsty and drinking water, but I rarely urinated. Then my kidneys started hurting. I had lost twenty pounds in two months and my husband had lost thirty, and we’d read somewhere that rapid weight loss can cause kidney failure. I slept every three or four days for an hour or so and woke feeling rested. I was an hour late for work everyday. My husband wrecked the truck three times. One day I forgot to feed my son. Everything was either the highest of highs or the lowest of lows, no in between existed anymore. We were banned from the sauna at our apartment complex because no one else could use it. Our sweat smelled so strongly of ammonia it burned the eyes, it was caustic, and it burned our skin too. My husband and I haven’t done any drugs at all for four weeks, and things are slowly going back to normal. But I still want it. I can’t sleep tonight because I want it. I wrote this in all honesty mostly to help myself, to remind myself why I don’t want it. And still I want it.
4. Crack Cocaine
Crack cocaine, often nicknamed “crack”, is believed to have been created and made popular during the early 1980s . Because of the dangers for manufacturers of using ether to produce pure freebase cocaine, producers began to omit the step of removing the freebase precipitate from the ammonia mixture. Typically, filtration processes are also omitted. Baking soda is now most often used as a base rather than ammonia for reasons of lowered odor and toxicity; however, any weak base can be used to make crack cocaine. When commonly “cooked” the ratio is 1:1 to 2:3 parts cocaine/bicarbonate.
As I held the smoke in for a ten count and exhaled, I thought I felt nothing except a little excitement that was neither bad nor pleasurable. The complete rush some writers have called a ‘whole-body orgasm’ hit me shortly after and I distinctly remember demanding ‘more’ as soon as the realization of heaven-on-earth came. Some people say that the effects of smoking crack lasts 10-15 minutes. For me, it was just a shortest instant of gratification. Everything afterwards was just a great increase in energy and confidence geared towards obtaining more of the drug.
5. LSD
Lysergic acid diethylamide, LSD, LSD-25, or acid, is a semisynthetic psychedelic drug of the tryptamine family. Arguably the most regarded of all psychedelics, it is considered mainly as a recreational drug, an entheogen, and a tool in use to supplement various types of exercises for transcendence including in meditation, psychonautics, and illegal psychedelic psychotherapy whether self administered or not. LSD’s psychological effects (colloquially called a “trip”) vary greatly from person to person, depending on factors such as previous experiences, state of mind and environment, as well as dose strength. They also vary from one trip to another, and even as time passes during a single trip. An LSD trip can have long term psychoemotional effects; some users cite the LSD experience as causing significant changes in their personality and life perspective. Widely different effects emerge based on what Leary called set and setting; the “set” being the general mindset of the user, and the “setting” being the physical and social environment in which the drug’s effects are experienced.
About ten years ago I bought my third trip from a guy in my home town Norwich (UK) It was a ‘Strawberry’ and I was told it had been double dipped. The guy had a reputation for selling good acid so I happily gave him my cash. I took the single LSD tab in the late morning in a positive state of mind with no worries or anxieties. I began to come up on the acid towards the lunch time. It was to be the first and last time I’d ever trip alone. Outside it was a glorious sunny day but I was happy enough in my temporary sanctuary to even think about going outside. The LSD rush started blazing up my spine and racing through my guts, I felt a little uneasy with it but had enough mind to allow myself to just go with it and wait until the rush plateaued. I was having a wonderful time, watching floral Escher type patterns breathing over my skin. I vaguely recall deciding to go downstairs again for some reason then the next thing I recall was awakening on the floor of the dining room alone. The first thing I noticed was that there were blowflies buzzing around a bowl of catfood on the kitchen floor. I remember feeling perplexed as to why both flies had two bright neon after images in red and blue. Somehow I navigated myself through Norwich during the busy lunchtime shoppers and begun to head in the direction of the city’s central park ‘Chapelfield gardens’. If you could imagine for a moment being surrounded by people in a busy place where their heads had been removed and replaced by Squids and Octopus you might begin to accurately picture the scene confronting me in the park. Everyone had tentacles smothering their faces and dangling down their necks like fleshy snake beards, even the women and children were not exempt from this disfiguration. In retrospect, it was the worst day of my entire life, It was the closest I can imagine to having full blown psychosis.
6. Ecstasy
Ecstasy (MDMA) is a semisynthetic psychedelic entactogen of the phenethylamine family that is much less visual with more stimulant like effects than most all other common “trip” producing psychedelics. It is considered mainly a recreational drug that’s often used with sex and associated with club drugs, as an entheogen, and a tool in use to supplement various types of practices for transcendence including in meditation, psychonautics, and illicit psychedelic psychotherapy whether self administered or not. The primary effects of MDMA include an increased awareness of the senses, feelings of openness, euphoria, empathy, love, happiness, heightened self-awareness, feeling of mental clarity and an increased appreciation of music and movement. Tactile sensations are enhanced for some users, making physical contact with others more pleasurable. Other side effects, such as jaw clenching and elevated pulse, are common.
Sitting comfortably in our cosy living room, Café del Mar and similar CDs playing in the background, we began at 8 pm. I swallowed one white tablet with water. Over the next hour nothing much happened except that I found myself talking quite openly and confidently with the others, moving very easily into interesting conversations. This was a little unusual for me as I am normally quite shy and overly self-conscious in social situations and it takes me a while to loosen up. The next thing I experienced was a striking shift in my visual perception. I don’t mean a hallucination or a distortion, but a wonderful step up in the aesthetic quality. For a moment it was like being in one of those nostalgic TV ads where the world looks all gold and sepia. ‘Everything’s gone amber!’ I blurted. But then I found that my vision was becoming beautifully enhanced. It made my normal visual experience seem like cheap, fuzzy CCTV footage in comparison. Now I was seeing the world anew in sharp, lush, top-quality Technicolor! I also began to move in time to the music. The music! Oh, the music! Wow! It sounded so good, so organic! The uplifted state stayed with me and took a long time to fade — at least a couple of weeks. It had unleashed in me a rush of joy that was still accessible when I focused on it weeks later.
7. Opium
Opium is a resinous narcotic formed from the latex released by lacerating (or “scoring”) the immature seed pods of opium poppies (Papaver somniferum). It contains up to 16% morphine, an opiate alkaloid, which is most frequently processed chemically to produce heroin for the illegal drug trade. Opium has gradually been superseded by a variety of purified, semi-synthetic, and synthetic opioids with progressively stronger effect, and by other general anesthesia. This process began in 1817, when Friedrich Wilhelm Adam Sertürner reported the isolation of pure morphine from opium after at least thirteen years of research and a nearly disastrous trial on himself and three boys.
I remember that what I smoked was much easier to smoke than marijuana. There was no burning in my throat nor in my lungs. I took a very large, smooth hit. Smoking it like marijuana, I held it in for about 10 or 15 seconds and let it out. It didn’t taste like marijuana, I remember the taste being rather faint. It actually tasted and smelled like incense. I was very surprised to suddenly find myself on the floor, in the dark, with a crowd of people surrounding me. Apparently I had fainted and fallen to the ground, but I hadn’t noticed. The high itself is rather hard to describe. It was much more intense than marijuana. It felt heavy, like my whole body was being impacted… but it also felt very clear and refined at the same time. As I made my way towards the bathroom the drug began to kick in again. My steps kind of faded away and it felt like I was just floating over to the bathroom. The scary thing was though, that I was having trouble seeing. My vision was fading. Distinct figures melted into shadows and everything had a sparkle to it. All of a sudden, everything felt really good. I couldn’t stop smiling. Everything was profound in a very positive way, especially the music since it resonated everywhere. It was a very abstruse experience. I imagine that I was coming down at this point, an hour had surely past by because the band was building a climax to end their first set. I went along with the crowd and made my way outside. The fresh air was wonderful. The cool air seemed to wrap around my body. A slight breeze on the back of my neck sent chills that rapidly multiplied throughout my body.
8. Marijuana
Cannabis, known as marijuana in its herbal form, is a psychoactive product of the plant Cannabis sativa. Humans have been consuming cannabis since prehistory, although in the 20th century there was a rise in its use for recreational, religious or spiritual, and medicinal purposes. It is estimated that about four percent of the world’s adult population use cannabis annually. It has psychoactive and physiological effects when consumed, usually by smoking or ingestion. The minimum amount of THC required to have a perceptible psychoactive effect is about 10 micrograms per kilogram of body weight. The state of intoxication due to cannabis consumption is colloquially known as a “high”; it is the state where mental and physical facilities are noticeably altered due to the consumption of cannabis. Each user experiences a different high, and the nature of it may vary upon factors such as potency, dose, chemical composition, method of consumption and set and setting.
After taking that first hit, and not feeling the effects within a minute (holding it in for a minute, and then waiting a little bit after exhaling) I decided, well I better hit this again, harder if I can. I took just as large of a hit, and again held it in for longer than a minute. I let my brother know I was really starting to feel something now and I don’t think I liked it all. It snuck up on me really bad, and I still had no idea what to expect. I wanted him to be quiet. Laying down was not helping, so I got back up. I went back to the garage and tried to explain to everyone ‘I am totally fucked up. This is scary!’ I was rationalizing everything tremendously, but it was SO intense! And it was only getting more intense faster! I didn’t know what to expect, I was sinking within myself, accelerating downward like into the depths of my own oblivion. I was a novice, I had no idea what to expect, and the world had become out of synch, the talking of my brothers, his friend, all ridiculous and extremely annoying. I became amazingly irritable and wanted them to leave me alone or not talk in my presence. They did not understand or appreciate my fear, and they began to get loud again. I ran upstairs to my parents bed and laid down with some wistful hope that I could wait out this storm.
9. Psilocybin Mushrooms
Psilocybin mushrooms (also called psilocybian mushrooms) are fungi that contain the psychedelic substances psilocybin and psilocin, and occasionally other psychoactive tryptamines. There are multiple colloquial terms for psilocybin mushrooms, the most common being magic mushrooms or ‘shrooms. When psilocybin is ingested, it is broken down to produce psilocin, which is responsible for the hallucinogenic effects. The intoxicating effects of psilocybin-containing mushrooms typically last anywhere from 3 to 7 hours depending on dosage, preparation method and personal metabolism. The experience is typically inwardly oriented, with strong visual and auditory components. Visions and revelations may be experienced, and the effect can range from exhilarating to distressing. There can be also a total absence of effects, even with large doses.
I had acquired about 8 grams of dried mushrooms and some liquid psilocybin equivalent to another 5 grams of powdered mushrooms. I swallowed the liquid first, on an empty stomach of course. I could feel a slight sensation after about 10-15 minutes. Then I added the powder to some water in a mug and swallowed that also. I then sat by the camp fire, listening to the wind in the trees while I contemplated what was about to happen. After about 45-50 minutes I heard a ‘voice’ calling to me. It wasn’t audible in the normal sense – it came from inside my own mind! Then I was gone – out of this world. I escaped into what I perceived to be the outer boundaries of my mind or my imagination. This placed presented itself as a natural forest with low light. Here I met the owner of the aforementioned voice – the Mushroom Goddess. She took the form of a white, strapless, ankle-length dress, standing side-on from me. For about the next two hours I dialoged with her, becoming totally bewitched by her charm, her wit, her intelligence, her knowledge, her unconditional affection for me and her seemingly infinite perspective. I have come to think of her as my other-worldly girlfriend.
10. PCP
PCP (Phencyclidine) is a dissociative drug formerly used as an anesthetic agent, exhibiting hallucinogenic and neurotoxic effects. It is commonly known as Angel Dust, but is also known as Wet, Sherm, Sherman Hemsley, Rocket Fuel, Ashy Larry, Shermans Tank, Wack, Halk Hogan, Ozone, HannaH, Hog, Manitoba Shlimbo, and Embalming Fluid, among other names. Although the primary psychoactive effects of the drug only last hours, total elimination from the body is prolonged, typically extending over weeks. PCP is consumed in a recreational manner by drug users, mainly in the United States, where the demand is met by illegal production. It comes in both powder and liquid forms (PCP base dissolved most often in ether), but typically it is sprayed onto leafy material such as marijuana, mint, oregano, parsley or Ginger Leaves, and smoked. PCP has potent effects on the nervous system altering perceptual functions (hallucinations, delusional ideas, delirium or confused thinking), motor functions (unsteady gait, loss of coordination, and disrupted eye movement or nystagmus), and autonomic nervous system regulation (rapid heart rate, altered temperature regulation). The drug has been known to alter mood states in an unpredictable fashion causing some individuals to become detached and others to become animated.
When I was taking the drug, I used very small amounts. The effect was incredibly pleasant and social, so much so that me and my friends all used it instead of booze for almost a year. I couldn’t dance for shit on the stuff (I’d get stumbly and actually fell on my ass on the dancefloor once) but the physical sensations and mental pictures were really fun. It is quite different from any psychedelic visuals or even Ketamine visuals…more like rolling through old film footage. To be honest, I liked it more than my experiences on Ketamine. PCP can make one nearly impervious to pain at high doses. Because of this, PCP can make things seem like a good idea that otherwise wouldn’t (leading to the stories of people leaping out of windows, etc.) I experienced very confusing physical reality when really high on it, like being unable to discern the difference between walking up stairs and down them, or standing still and walking. This could lead to very unusual behaviour.

OMG, Never again will I try X. I thought my brain was going to explode. And Shrooms….don't even get me started. Word of advice, don't do ANY of these drugs by yourself…..you'll want to die!
=P
You're pretty much a dumb bimbo….
No, you’re just a dumba$$ burn out who can’t take it when people don’t need the crutches you do.
thats only because you had bad x if you get good pure mdma it will be awesome regardles if your by yourself trust me i have probally had thousands of beans and i have only been doing them for three years
Ha ha. You're such a dumb rookie. Its ok though, just leave them for us who know a thing or two about enjoying things in moderation. These type of things aren't made for idiots like you.
Boy, you make a real case for druggies being total *****s….
I actually rather smoking me weed alone, i dont like to share my good stuff.
Yeah, I too much prefer smoking a joint by myself, or at least going off to do my own thing afterwards. Personally, I find that mariujuana (at least to me) caters to a more personal experience.
ew you pussy.. ur supposed to do mushrooms 3 times a season.. i did them everyday for 6 weeks.. evryday i had a good trip.. and x. u thort your brain was going to explode.. someone can’t handle their *****
bunch o crap your body developes a resistance after 4 days you are eating an ounce and a half to feel anything
Cyn: Excellent comment. I share much of the same beliefs, though I'm probably too young yet to fully understand the implications of legalizing street drugs (I've never had any contact with them, thank heavens.) I do think that, to some people, the psychological needs they feel may stem from a willingness to break from the norm, an unconscious need to be different, and if it means breaking the law, then so be it. The human psyche innately feels the drive to be recognized, and for many that means doing something exciting, different, and sometimes dangerous (which is why so many failing stars such as Britney Spears turn to alcohol and drugs once they realize they are no longer the hot item.) Now, I'm by no means a psychologist, but I do know that for many people (in criminal cases), breaking the law actually stimulates the sensory pathways that give the feeling of personal reward and gratification. So, in the case of drugs, there's the pleasure of standing out as well as the physical element of the drug. It's easy to see how addictions become psychological at that point, even for drugs that aren't commonly considered addictive, such as *****. For that reason, I believe that there should be strict regulations on drugs, but no, they shouldn't be totally criminalized.
No, no, no. You are tying too hard NOT to sound like a naive high schooler. Most people don't do drugs because they want to break the law. In fact, most drug users wish their drug of choice was legal. People do drugs because drugs FEEL GOOD and are ENJOYABLE. You don't realize this because the only things you know about drugs are from DARE classes, where they don't tell you why people do drugs. They don't want you to know that drugs are fun and feel great because they don't want you to do them. Weed and coke have enjoyable and fun highs, shrooms and LSD produce fun trips that are unlike anything you will have seen before, and heroin gives you an orgasmic feeling of warmth. People wouldn't do a drug that made you feel like crap just because it was illegal.
You are an idiot. The guy is exactly right, you’re just a user that’s justifying use. Please, quit trying to play this crap off like it’s not potentially harmful.
And for all the other morons laughing at people, saying “oh, you’re just a rookie, leave it for the experienced”, how about all of you get a life already. People are inherently stupid, but the people that cannot enjoy life without turning to some kind of substance are a lot more stupid than most.
It doesn’t matter what the excuse or justification, it boils down to being weak-willed. Period. Whether it’s because you are “stressed”, had a hard life, or you claim you do it for “fun”, you are weak willed because you turn to something such as this for fun instead of being able to have fun w/out it. Fact. And if you have to resort to a substance to get you through stress instead of being able to utilize your own mind or mental processes, then that also points to a very weak will. Also fact.
Talking like some kind of “expert” doesn’t make you “cool” or better than others. I would prefer that adults would actually grow up and act like adults instead of pulling the juvenile playground attitude. But considering how ignorant human beings are (which directly contrasts w/how intelligent we think we are) I don’t see that happening anytime soon. In fact, I see it constantly worsening.
Mmm, don’t know if I agree with this. I don’t do drugs myself, but I don’t have problems with them– unless they’re repeatedly and frequently abused. The term “weak-willed” applies exclusively to those who rely on drugs to have a good time, which many people don’t.
When used in moderation, these drugs are hardly more atrocious than a few glasses of wine at home. Alcohol is a drug too, remember? People tend to forget this because it’s considered socially acceptable, but I assure you, it is not inherently better than anything on this list.
The subject doesn’t require the vehemence that you approach it with. Calm down. Try to understand the other side. Maybe we can get an interesting debate going. :]
you sir, are a *****
dude i loved reading this you are very skilled in literature !!
Yes, I totally agree. I also had the same thought. Look at the history of how China got hooked by heroine or morphine, and what happened later. People who are drug users usually end up poorer, loss of jobs, loss of interest in family life, forgetful, look like a bump, become a thief to get money to buy drugs for the day, living in the streets, eating leftovers in rubbish dumpsters, etc. Yuk!
Look at the drug rehabs and you’ll know what I mean. Some or even most of those who have gone through the rehabs go back to be a drug addict again. Can you imagine those people? If you are not in it yet, don’t ever try it, or you’ll regret for the rest of your life. If you have tried it, don’t go into it anymore. Speak to the drug associations which can help you to overcome the urge.
In my youth I did quite a few of these drugs, but by far the scariest were magic mushrooms! We picked about 300 and then made a pot of tea out of them. The result was like a nightmare I couldn't wake up from and I had a panic attack which lasted for 4 hours! The only lasting effects of any of these drugs I have experienced is a tendnacy to repeat myself… a tendancy to repeat myself
yea man i dont know why everyone always says things like this about shrooms ive eaten them every weekend for the last 6 months and am yet to have a bad trip but i also dont eat field shrooms like he did only hydroponic shrooms
I eat mushrooms. I buy it from the supermarket. This are the healthier choices.
i did 600 in a tea.. itwas fun
Good list and really interesting experiences, funny stuff…however I wish you would also included all the negative effects of such drugs…..Wassup with that Jamie?
P.S.: BTW I've never done any drugs, thank goodness.
Thank the Lord I haven't done any drugs! Ha ha, douche, coward.
Since when does not wanting to Get *****ed up, wake up in a trash can, go spend hundreds of dollars on a bunch of leaves, smoke them, go on a drive while the effects are still going, get pulled over by the cops, going to prison for a year, and losing all your friends/family qualify you as a douche or a coward? I've never done drugs either but obviously you have. What's your favorite part? Waking up with a tattoo you didn't know you got on your arm? Mabye it's wasting hundreds of dollars on the *****? Or how about finding yourself in the back of a cop car? Could it be your girlfriend ditching you? What about constantly feeling like you can't live without it? Does losing your job sound like another reason? Could it be that you know you have *****ed up your life? How about that your now part of the 5% of society that have messed up so bad they can never get back on your feet? Mabye the fact that your going straight to hell? How about the feeling that you wish you knew what had happened on drugs? Mabye hearing from someone that you ran into a wall and were knocked out cold? Could it be the constant scowls you get when you try to walk down the street?
PS I've never done any of that stuff just heard that is what happens.
Dude none of that stuff happens. Don't knock it till you try it.
Actually alot of that stuff happens. Don’t knock it till it happens!
Experiences I’ve gone through and watched my friends go through.
M O I S T C U N T
Just saying you cant get arrested or in legal trouble for being under the effects of any drug only possessing them.
shut the ***** up kid. i smoked weed for 9 years before i had a first cop run in with weed in my car, but by then i had my 215 card for medical ***** and only took a small speeding fine. many kids smoke weed and so do adults and the ones that have trips are just little pussies because weed doesnt make you trip. turn 18 get your mmj card and you wont get troubled for possession
Pierre, how about you shut the ***** up. Just because he doesn’t want to be a worthless burner waste of f’n skin doesn’t mean he needs to be bad mouthed by you.
Everybody seems to think that if you don’t “toke” you’re not cool. Ignorant s h i t bags. How about you quit being a weak-willed p u ssy and learn to get through life w/out dependency on a stinky, nasty, putrid weed? Oh, that’s right. You’re worthless, you can’t.
Back off, leave the kid alone, and let him be a decent member of society instead of a burnout piece of flotsam.
And it’s biased and uninformed people like you who just make yourselves look bad. ‘Users’ are constantly being knocked by those who haven’t tried it and quite frankly it’s unfair because you DON’T understand until you’ve done it yourself.
Collin- another idiot user who wants to poke fun at the “un-cool” non-drug using crowd. Get a life loser.
Like I said above, because these people have stronger wills and are able to enjoy life without running to a leaf or a pill or a powder like a nice little dependent retard, you want to talk down to them. Just because you try something doesn’t automatically mean you’ll like it or that it’s “the best thing in the world you can do”.
Drugs are ignorant, and their users are also. Period. How about trying to have the courage and the mental capacity to enjoy something or, in extreme cases, make it through the day and/or life w/out running to some kind of substance? When you can do that, then maybe you’ll be worth the skin you’re wasting. If not, then you’re just a waste.
hey captain carrot. Do you drink a coffee in the morning? or how about a cigarette? or maybe even a beer or rum and coke? Maybe tylenol when you get a headache? everyone enjoys drugs bud
Collin– You are a bonafide moron. Likening those things to hallucinogens. That’s like comparing swatting a fly and murdering another human being.
For your information, I don’t like coffee and don’t use Tylenol, but that’s neither here nor there. I don’t see people jones-ing for a f’n Tylenol and I sure as hell don’t see people in alleys selling coffee on the sly.
Again, just another ignorant argument from some stupid burner to justify his weak willed necessity on a piece of grass to have fun and enjoy life. I’m waiting for the “I don’t need it, I just want it and like it” argument. Dumba$$.
My apologies. JM is the moron this time. I was looking at Collin’s name as I started typing and simply put his name in. My bad. JM, don’t be an a$$clown. I know it’s hard for you not to do, but give it a try some time. That is all.
***** off Captain C***
seriously, dude, chill out. drugs causes some bad things yeah. but what doesnt? they give people the opportunity to have some fun, and who are you to knock that?
You my friend… are a dumb ass…
that sounds like booze weed shouldnt even be on the list it is the tamest least addictive drug there is used for 10 years and quit when first kid was born. stopped drinking long before that
… and save so much money in the end!
me either!
captain carrot you are so dumb. its not like most people are addicted and dependent on these drugs. The people who are dumb enough to get addicted can be talked **** to.though, most drug users don’t do that. Most people that do drugs do it much less than coffee alcohol or tobacco, which are also drugs with worse effects than some of the drugs on this list. Your so dumb thinking that things everyone that does drugs is instantly addicted for life and is useless. I have quite smoking *****, and tobacco as well as nitrous and dph with ease.If you are really this dumb and ignorant you probably have a weaker will than us.
Wow, you sure told me with that horribly written paragraph. Yes, you definitely showed the user community in a positive light.
You are an idiot. Plain and simple. Let’s see if I have this right. Because I don’t need a drug to enjoy life, I’m more weak willed? Yeah, ok. Common sense eludes you, doesn’t it?
So, in summary, you took stupid sh*t simply to giggle like a girl and “have a good time”. Wow, yes, such a strong will you’ve got there. And the way you write doesn’t point to the fact that you fried your brain, right?
I’m sure that’s what you think, but what’s in black and white above proves otherwise.
to be honest dude why are you wasting your time..i do drugs. yes. i love them yes. why talk down to people that do drugs though? its our choice, so mind your own business no offence just stay outa peoples lives and let them do what they want
How can someone posting comments under the name “Captain Carrot” be taken seriously. Everything you say just shows you to be a narrow-minded person unable to see beyond the view of their own sheltered version of the world. I smoke weed and yet, I go to work everyday, I make a living, pay my taxes, and my bills on time. Don’t you? You’re a lot more like a “responsible drug-user” than you might want to see.
wow you need to chill
Smoke a bowl and quit your *****ing
oi ***** stop botzing it b4 i botz ur face…. over half the population in my neibourhood smoke weed and do e.. because hey. we gunna die anyway u obviously havnt tried a drug at all u ugly trolling ***** .. alcahol is worse than half the drugs on there. and thats legal.. loosen up a little bit and stop giving a fuk u
I am inclined to agree with “Ya knoww…” in that you have probably lived a very sheltered life. so have i, but i finally managed to get away from all the smothering people that make up my family, and did ***** once. I was just fine, never feeling dependent on it or addicted.
I’ve done other stuff too and it’s not as you say: (paraphrasing here) It’s horrible, you shouldn’t do it, it screws you up for life, etc. And to some extent, you are right about some drugs messing you up, for example ***** kills brain cells. True, but do you know how many joints you would have to smoke before you started to actually get brain-dead? 100,000 joints. Most people and drugs users alike will never smoke that much in their life.
My next point, don’t quote people on the structures of their paragraphs or the content of their writing, even if it is completely illegible. I mean, what are you? A trolling Proper English fanatic, or a freaking English teacher? people do not need to be educated to get their point across.
Next thing to say: Why would you click on this website in the first place? In my eyes, it’s only to go and ridicule people based on how they were raised, or where they live, or how they live. People weren’t as “lucky” as you to have a (assumed) nice life growing up being sheltered from the bad, or having loving parents or friends. You are lucky to have the ability to go and have fun without drugs. Other people are not so fortunate. So don’t go judging people who you know nothing about.
Last thing to comment on. Don’t be a damn troll. Gtfo off of this website if you don’t like what people say or comment about. You dont like their experiences? Oh well, stfu, keep your ***** to yourself, and go on with your obviously over-DARE-educated life. Thank you.
Ah, David. You are an idiot. I had to reply to myself because, for some reason, I can’t reply directly to you. You probably set it up that way because you’re a pu$$.
That’s a very nice, cushy little excuse you have there. Saying I’ve been “sheltered”, I’ve lived a nice “DARE” life all my years. Fact is, putz, I’ve probably been through harder $hit than you could even think of and seen things that would make you curl into a fetal position.
Just because people are STRONG enough to deal w/things with the tools they were born with doesn’t make somebody “sheltered”. It’s funny you can lump people into that convenient little category.
You drug endorsers are all the same. (Yes, I know I’m lumping now, too, contrary to what I posted. But that’s totally different.)
You always have to justify. You always have to say “oh, it isn’t so bad”. Yeah, yeah it is, nimrod.
And that still doesn’t disprove the FACT that a person does not need drugs as necessities. There is no practical reason to partake in those things. If you need them to “unwind”, or “have fun”, then you’re just like I said. Weak willed.
Now, on to education. Education is a vital commodity. You sound like a moron when you say you don’t have to be educated to “get your point across”. There is a difference in minor errors and just totally, brain dead stupid or lazy.
You sound exactly like all the rest. Upset at the truth, and angry that somebody called you out on your stupidity. People like to act stupid, but if you call them out on it they get offended.
Here’s an idea. Don’t be f’n stupid in the first place and you won’t get called out on it.
Obviously that was that guy’s first time smoking weed. I WISH it were like that every time.
Sounds like he had too much and had a whitey.
I have no idea how that person held a hit for a full 60 seconds. I think 15 is plenty!
Also, I am also unsure as to how much acid you'd have to take for people's heads to be replaced with squids and octopuses. Sometimes I wonder who those little "experiences" were written by. It sounds like a more clever version of D.A.R.E. to be honest. It is worded strangely.
This was a neat list, thanks for posting.
popped a whitey you idiot!!! LOL
and so did I, it was both good and bad at the same time, i wish i could have been by myself to dance ALL NIGHT LOOONGG!! anyways i dont want to do it again, dont want to end up forgetting things!
A drug person can learn to cope with things like seeing their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her teeth. But no one should be asked to handle this trip. Especially not this guy.
amen
iv never freaked out on *****, iv always become calm and collected off of the drug
Anna: it was – he ended up calling 911
Whoa. That last one sounds pretty dreadful, actually. The dialogue on the section about mushrooms made me laugh.
why would it make you laugh it is a drug drugs are bad why would you laugh at a drug you are supposed to not laugh because it is not funny and yes i agree with you also and no not only the last one was dreadful all of them were
Drugs are bad ? What a cliche, Have you never drunk alcohol ? smoked ? Drunk coffee ? Even eating chocolate, haha, “Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone.” Each man to himself i say, If it makes him feel good, who are you to judge ?
This shows my age, but when I clicked on the list I thought it was going to be a list of drugs like Aspirin, Lipitor, Viagra etc.
wowzer: yeah – he really ought to write a book
Joe: Heh – I am planning a list of more mainstream legal drugs at some point
:p
i always find drugs and its effects to be fascinating, although i’ve never been tempted enough to try it.
http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1734043
interesting list though, quite informative.
try the *****
*sigh* setting myself up here by getting into the comment stream but..
cool list. any drug can be abused. any drug can illicit a ‘bad experience’. in this country..if ‘street drugs’ were taken out of the legal system and left to the medical professionals, the drugs themselves were legalized, under quality control and taxed with those taxes put towards researching and curing addictions and the social and biological conditions that create addiction (w/ its subsequent social ills and issues) you’d not be reading ‘horror stories’ like some of these posted here. people do ‘street drugs’ for a reason and more often than not it has nothing to do w/ them wanting to commit a crime but to answer some other physical or psychological need. so long as it is ‘criminalized’ there will be criminal elements involved who will take advantage of the situation for their own profit.
and yeah..this is one of my ‘pet peeves’ as to why street drugs are illegal in this country. i come at this from a social service background having worked in community mental health centers where most of the patients have some kind of street drug connection. and i have other reasons for wanting street drugs out of the court system and into the medical system too. also there is for me that issue of being responsible for your own behavior, getting government out of our personal affairs and practicing responsible behavior in public, leaving things like drug use for private use only.
Cyn: I agree with your sentiments entirely.
That guy that smoked the weed has had experiences similar to my own, I would get too “baked”and then start to think about my mortality and when and what it will feel like when I die,it really makes it unenjoyable, therefore I pretty much have refrained from smoking bud anymore. I must say though that I must take prescription drugs(percocet, oxycontin)and I swear, if they could make the socalled antidepressant drugs(prozac, wellbutrin)make me feel like these drugs I would be one happy customer.JF, you should do one on the diffrent kinds of prescription painkillers out there.:)
Meth is a big problem in Portland and in a lot of good communities i have seen it tear whole family’s and communities apart
I cant say iv heard of it on portland myself . smoke or wizz is every where all you have to do is really look around to see how people interact with each other. there is no trust in the comunity any more . HOW SAD AND SCAREY FOR SUCH A SMALL BUT BEUTIFULL ISLAND . GOD HELP US ALL…………
Jennifer: I noticed people saying that in the various testimonials too. Good advice!
Joe: I do plan to to do a legal drugs list too – mostly to satisfy my own curiosity – I know the names but not the supposed benefits.
Mix2323: I think it is probably one of the worst drugs of all – the devastation seems far worse than even heroin.
netexile: thank goodness you got out of it all!
Leo: are you being sarcastic? Did you read the personal experience of number 3?
Yea but most of them seemed like they were promoting the use of drugs….I dunno that’s the impression I got
Leo: ok – it was unintentional if that is the case
I used to dabble in meth with friends about ten years ago, but the weird thing about it with me was that even though I could not eat a bite or sleep a wink I would clam up and just sit and stare out into space, usually people become jabberjaws on meth but not me,it was the opposite. That and it would really cause certan parts of my body to shrink for the duration of the trip.
Why the he’ll is ***** on this list and not alcohol?
I used to subcribe to the theory that legalising drugs, taking them out of the hands of the criminal element, and controlling the purity would be a better answer to the present zero tolerance attitudes perpetuated by successive governments worldwide. I live in a place where alcohol and it’s related illnesses is the biggest killer per annum, and I came to the conclusion that legalising more recreational drugs would in all likeliness create more of a health and financial burden on services in the long run, coupled with far reaching social problems.
The question that governments and society should be asking is “Why do people take drugs in the first place?” The majority of addicts live a hopless life and are from the poorest communities. Addressing the alienation of the disenfranchised in our society is the first step to giving these people options in life. Reducing the demand is the only answer. Unfortunately this approach isn’t a “vote winner” so it will never be implemented.
Never done drugs myaelf, I've seen the effects of them though. It seems to me that a lot of times a person who has done hard drugs for a while develops a weird spacey fragile personality. It's disconcerting. I mean, I've known people who have been off of drugs for YEARS and they still act druggy. It's hard to explain, but maybe someone else more eloquent than I knows what I am talking about and can elaborate. I've always just called it fried.
Yep my brother seems 'fried'
In the last few years he's gotten into the 'clubbing scene', doing all sorts of pills. I'm not in contact with him since a long time ago, but when I do get to meet him he's talking like a slow retard, not finding his words, repeating himself. Pretty weird. A common friend of ours asked what happened to him, did he fall on his head? So I'm not the only one seeing this.
Also lately he's got this depression/anger issues he can't control. He even tried to get admitted into a clinic, but it was full (too many people with 'more serious' problems).
I've red about people who did a lot of different stuff, but after taking X were permanently damaged, so that's the one I've decided not to try.
Sounds like permanent brain damage, guys. Not to scare anyone or anything, but drugs can and do oftentimes do serious damage. I hope your family members/friends/whoever will figure something out that gets them back to how their cognitive functioning used to be.
Jamie, there are some interesting legal drugs out there that might make a cool list.
-All of the antidepressants are facinating in how they can change the personality of certain people (for better and worse). Makes one wonder about the nature of what we identify as “self”. Same goes for the antipsychotics and antianxiety drugs.
-Some of the drugs that have been around forever and continue to be mainstays of treatment in disease like digoxin, aspirin and Theophylline.
-The new antibiotics for “superbugs”, stem cells, and the promise of nanotechnology in medicine.

Leo – maybe you got the impression that they were ‘promoting’ drug use because the blurbs came from Erowid.org, not the DEA or the Office or Drug Control Policy or whatever. All those stories end up with people dying or becoming *****s and getting aids and stuff. Government propaganda. Not that that kind of thing doesn’t happen, but it’s not a given.
I used to feel strongly that drugs should be legalized (I gambled on most of these in my youth and got lucky), but now I’m a father and I’ve changed my mind. I don’t think its a simple issue.
I’m not a social worker, but I do volunteer work at homeless shelters and community outreach programs when I can. I lived in a town that was notorious for its meth problems. Damned tweekers just about ruined the place.
That drug should never be legalized. I’ve seen how it changes people, not just physically, like all the ‘awareness’ stuff focuses on, but mentally.
Tweekers are like human-sized rats. Even the people that kick it stay forever paranoid, edgy, shifty. Their brains don’t work right anymore.
OK, so I bet all sorts of people have an issue with that last paragraph. Yeah, maybe you have done it a couple times (like I did) and you made it out OK. I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to the people who made a habit out of it.
I don’t care how long you’ve been clean for, your brain’s broken now. You’re dumber than you used to be, you look 10 years older than you should, and you always assume that someone somewhere is trying to screw you over.
I’ve met plenty of drug users and I’ve met plenty of people that have quit all of these drugs and gone on to put their lives back together and become good productive people. Every drug except meth. Stay away from it.
I would like to know where these excerpts come from if you could.
Henry: I mention it at the end of the article – erowid.com – an excellent site.
You forgot to include Mugwump “Milk” on the list.
Unfortunately that's only available in Interzone.
At my college, it seems like eveybody is in to salvia…and weed of course.
…”people that have quit all of these drugs and gone on to put their lives back together and become good productive people.”
i find statements like this to be quite ignorant. drugs (and i speak mainly of natural psychedelics) are intensely individual as experiences. what are psilocybin mushrooms and cannibis and such but gifts from god? perhaps we should look deeper into the correlation between OUR CULTURE and the use of drugs, rather than simply just the use of drugs, which in and of itself can be a life changing, unbelievebly beautiful experience….
I’m so sick of hearing that excuse. “But these things are natural, and as such a gift from God”. Give me a f’n break. Cyanide and other “natural” poisons are, just that, natural. Are these things “gifts”? Should you take them simply because they are natural? That’s one of the biggest bull***** arguments for drugs that I think I ever hear from ignorant f’n users.
They are natural. And while I don’t believe in the bs about gift from god. I do think that the government has no f ucking business in telling what I can or can’t put or do with my body. As long as I don’t become a tweaker that’s like robbing for the habit I should be able to do what I want. I’m in high school and I’ve tried pot, alcohol, opioids(codeine), and cocaine. They are all great. The best fun in my life I have been drunk and or high. And coke gives you the best rush ever but is crazy expensive. It’s also the only So as many others have said don’t knock it till you try it. I also plan on doing all those other drugs like x, opium, and such except meth and crack.
Also for the “drug users don’t go anywhere” people I am at the top of my class and I’m looking at Stanford and the ivies and plan on majoring in either biomedical or civil engineering then getting into investment banking. So yah I’m going places and I’m going to have one he ll of a ride.
You are an even bigger idiot. You didn’t seem to read anything in my post at all. Poisons are natural, yet you don’t go chasing them around to put into your system for kicks, do you?
And while that’s a nice, fictional story you’ve got there, it doesn’t change the fact that you’re a weak willed little p ussy that can’t do anything w/out a substance to make you feel “better”. You have no mental strength at all, and for as “smart” as you think you are, you are one ignorant b*stard.
Doesn’t surprise me that you’re some idiot kid, though. Here’s an idea, how about you grow up just a bit and use the grown up part of your brain that obviously hasn’t gotten any use as of yet?
What’s this? Someone I actually agree with?
Idiots who think the greatest experiences in life come from drugs are usually idiot high school students or know-it-all college types. They obviously haven’t heard of such wonderful things as generosity, love, peace, forgiveness, family, friends, loyalty, adventure, selflessness etc. People like this foolish drug abuser care only about themselves and their own enjoyment. Most likely someone who has ***** only to get themselves off as well. Hey mate, do you know how many millions of people are in poverty in this world? Yet how much do you spend on drugs just for a few hours of being high? Dickhead
P.S. With your spelling and grammatical errors, you are definitely NOT at the top of any class, save for maybe the top of your special ed class, you dunce.
Sounds to me like you should stay in school for another couple years just to be on the safe side.
Could you be more of a douche? I also fail to see how supposedly not being mentally strong has any relevance to anything.
f&f: No one I know who used naturally occuring psychedelic drugs on a regular basis had their lives changed for the better. I’m sure they had beautiful experiences but most of them suffer, or have suffered from mental health problems since. Your assertion that these drugs are “a gift from God” sounds like some cliche from the 60s quite frankly. There are naturally occuring deadly poisons too, are they also a gift from God?
Kudos to you.
I agree so m uch tho i am young i have lost alot of ppl to drugs……
I think Faces of Meth is fairly horrifying, especially seeing the difference in people who have not been using meth for that long. That said, I really do not see why it is such a big deal for people to recreationally use drugs. I think it’s a bit hypocritical, actually, that it is perfectly legal for a white suburban soccer mom (with insurance) to be zonked out on Prozac all the time while an uninsured African-American single working mother can go to jail if she’s caught smoking a blunt on a Friday night.
ive smoked a lot of weed in the last year or so and ive never had any experience nearly that bad (or a single bad high at all). ive also tried shrooms about 5 times in the last year. that was an amazing feeling. the only bad part was a friend (who was also shroomin’) and i were walking around town and i unknowingly walked into a street, thinking it was just a big streak of blue. by far though, acid is the best drug ive ever done. the three times ive done it stand out as the most profound days of my life. everyone should try LSD.
Talk about horrific.
The Downward Spiral
shane's right. the average mushroom dose is about 1 to 2 grams. the effects of the average dose lasts about 6 hours, so 13 grams would have you tripping for days.
I agree. When I do my trips(once or twice a year), I eat an 8th or a quad(3-7 grams) and we trip ALL NIGHT. Usually carrying that weird “trippy” feeling into the next day. I have had nothing but good experiences. People just need to do their drugs at home or a safe house with a friend or two. E of course, to be done with a lover. Dont drive, dont talk to people who are sober, and dont deal with children or care recipients. Happy and safe tripping!
I’m very glad to say that I never once had the desire to use any of these drugs. I agree with Leo though, it did seem like this was promoting the use of drugs and their “cool” effects. Having a brother who has used Heroine for the majority of the last 15 years, it makes me sick to my stomach to know that people think they can use drugs “recreationally”. Heroine has done nothing but destroy my brother’s life, and take the lives of at least a dozen of his friends.
So because your brother decided to ***** his OWN life up with Heroin abuse of FIFTEEN YEARS (that is almost my entire lifespan so far), people like me who smoke a bit of weed after working or in the weekends, do the occasional E pill, and half an LSD tab and harm no one, not even themselves, are bad people? Drugs like weed, LSD, and E, and alcohol are recreational, and as long as the user understands that, knows their limits, and is in a safe environment with people they can trust and no children etc, then they will be fine.
I bet you are the kind of person that takes what ever prescription medicine they are prescribed and shove it down your throat without question, but then think that a person who smokes ***** to relive stress/pain/glaucoma etc, should be put in prison, or fined a large amount of hard earned money. I'm very sorry for you and your brother, and I wouldn't expect someone like you to go out and randomly start trying drugs (that isn't the way to go about it ANYway). But keep an open mind, and don't bash others for living their way when they aren't harming anyone.
The mind is such a powerful tool, but it is also a prison. We see what we wanna see, and people always say "Drugs take you out of reality into another world". That, IMO, is wrong. Drugs put you INto reality, they take you out of the mundane, clockwork world that we live in, and we start to see that things don't make sense, or certain laws aren't ok. We start to question the materialistic world we live in, and THAT is why most drugs are illegal.
You’re goddamn rights, man. I’m sick and tired of people judging without understanding. Just let bygone’s be bygones. What’s the need for the whole pessimistic attitude towards another person’s habits? It’s their habits, not yours. It isn’t affecting you and if it IS recreational and used in moderation then what’s the big deal?
Again, you both are idiots. Yes, you’re a moron, Pro. You too, Collin. Grow a set, try to achieve a higher mental capacity, and grow a stronger will. Quit bashing the people that have seen and bring to light the damaging effects of drugs. You’re just as big of a problem, condoning and justifying and rationalizing this plague.
Rationalization and excuses. That’s what users amount to. “But Billy does it, why can’t I”? Johnny’s mom lets him do it and he seems fine!” Grow the f up.
So basically no counter-argument, just personal attacks. Classy.
hahah your dumb, pyscho and you believe everything you hear
The only drug I’ve done that scares me is Coke. It makes me happy and talkative but when it runs out, I can even turn violent and that scares me because that is just not my nature.
Alot of these I have never tried and never will. However the majority of people (at least around here), including myself have had there fair share of weed. I grew out of it, it got old and I lost interest in it.
I think LSD would be very interesting to try, and if there was some security in not having any lasting side effects I would probably try it. Opium too.
But I think Salvia (as someone else mentioned) would be a good honorable mention. I’ve had alot of very “Unique” experiences with it.
matt
Glad I’ve never done any drugs but from the stories i hear (not just from junkies or frequent users but from some people I’d actually trust) marijauna just isnt as bad as the worst case scenarios they show. Other drugs scare me, meth especially cause i live in the area with the worst meth problems in the country and you will see people that look like they’re extras in a resident evil movie all the time in newspapers
That doesn’t sound good Robert, probably best stay away from it in future. I only took coke once and it turned me into what can only be described as a Game Show Host for 20 mins. It was reason enough never to do it again
I tried coke a few times one summer to see what it was like. I never really felt any pleasant effects except a vague desire to do more. The last time I tried it I had this weird moment where I suddenly felt bland and uncreative. It was such a disturbing sensation that I haven't had any desire to do it since. I'm lucky I guess, that was the only really bad time I've had on *****s. I had much worse experiences when I used to drink whiskey than on any of the illicit substances I tried.
I have tried a few of these, and while a lot of it is great, sometimes that leads to the problems.
As Robert said, running out of coke when you want more will just lead you to be *****ed off and not get any sleep.
LSD was one heck of an experience though. Just make sure you’re in the right frame of mind to do it, and have a comfortable place to be. Not that you should do it, but if I can’t stop you, at least don’t get yourself killed by freaking out. Do it safe.
People have been searching for the ultimate high since we climbed out of the trees and I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon.
They have found traces of psychotropic drugs in tombs, described in ancient writings, even pictured in wall reliefs and other artwork.
Governments, religions and languages come and go, but two things always stay the same. No matter what you call them, there will always be a group who will use drugs to dull the boredom and/or agony of their everyday lives and there will always be a group who use drugs to ‘stick it to the man’, ‘turn on, tune in, drop out’, ‘experience life in hi def’ or whatever the current ‘cool’ phrase is.
Personally, I don’t touch drugs or alcohol, but that’s a combination of seeing first hand the effects of abuse and being just a bit of a control freak. If someone else wants to fry their brain, I don’t really care, that’s their business, as long as they don’t bring harm to other people through their own stupidity. Unfortunately, innocent bystanders always seem to be standing by, ready and waiting.
Excellent list! I’m very interested in the drug culture, so I was interested to read your top 10 list. I would also nominate salvia for honorable mention.
whoever wrote the description of their experience with mushrooms either lied or had some very weak stuff. 13 grams would do you in for much, much longer than a mere 2 hours, regardless of whether it was your first time or not.
Whoo… imagine the experience when you mix them altogether :
You can have repeated invigorated ***** while losing weight, with a confused laughing mushroom goddess with an octopus head while floating on the ceiling, very aware about the fact you forgot to put a cushion on the floor for when you come down.
Great comments everyone – I laughed aloud at some of them.
Shane and Ryan: In the preface to the guy’s story, he said that he was extremely overweight and took a much larger dose than was necessary. Having never done ‘shrooms I have no idea whether that is likely. Thanks for raising the point though.
Kelsi: Thanks for mentioning Salvia (along with the others who did earlier) – it does deserve an honorable mention.
Andre: hah – it reads like a William Burrough’s novel
If you get around to it, read up a bit on DMT (Dimethyltriptamine)…absolutely fascinating stories. But one drug I certainly will never try!
batesman: thanks – I will do that.
Now that I’m a bit more with it than last night when I left that comment…I was surprised not to see DMX, as I think it is more common than some of the drugs you listed, at least in my area. But regardless, still a list I enjoyed reading. =)
I've read of people getting permanent visual hallucinations form DMX abuse. But they were really abusing it.
Different people use drugs for as many reasons as there are individual personalities. It’s not neccessarily to numb some deep personal pain or to ‘stick it to the man’ as someone said above. I tried pot out of sheer curiosity. There was obviously something to it because such a big deal was made about it, so what the hell…
Have to say, I liked it and used it occasionally for a while. I never had any desire to try coke, meth, PCP, or any of the other designer drugs that pot is supposedly a ‘gateway’ to. I have to admit I tried ‘shrooms, out of the same WTF curiosity. It was pretty neat. I guess I would do them again if the opportunity arose, but if not, whatever.
Just sayin’ it’s not always a sad story…
f&f – Oh HILARIOUS! You call me ignorant and then trot out the old ‘Gift from God’ crap.
Thanks, you made my day. I was speaking of hard, refined drugs of course, but I think you just highlighted the danger of psychedelic drug use: becoming a hippie. As a recovering hippie myself I can tell you that there is hope. There are people out there that can help you. They’re called employers.
Far out, man, I know! But seriously, I hope you’re in college or something. If you’re over 25 and a still a hippie, a government check isn’t too far into your future. I’ve never met an adult hippie that wasn’t collecting some sort of disability money. And I’ve met a LOT, because they have the best weed.
Legalising The harder drugs Would be a disaster. Taxing the sale of the drugs in order to invest in research to cure the problems resulting from addiction is totally ridiculous. It’s like poisoning someone just so you can give them the cure. Am I the only one who can see the irony here?
Soft drugs like ***** are not family breakers, ice and herion are. Big difference. I have tried a few of the above with varying results, never resulting in addiction though. Luckily. But that’s down to your personal makeup and background I think. Anyway, drugs aren’t going anywhere. The results aren’t pretty and I feel for those who are caught up in them. However help is available to those who want it. Self appointed moral compasses should just accept it and move on, end of story.
Why does nobody bite anymore?
jay: fear of rabies?
9000: I think, given strict controls, it could work – if the rules were that the only people who could have a heroin prescription were people that were addicted, the government could ensure that those who need it get it – while there would still be some who would take it illegally, at least if the government produced it it would be a consistent quality and would dramatically reduce the number of people who OD.
So the gov’t should be enablers? And who do you think will be paying for that? Why, the tax payers of course. I’m not paying to fund anyone’s habit. They want to do drugs and pay boatloads of their own money, fine, but they can’t rope my funds into their bs…
I think legalising heroin would be an effective method of crime prevention. Not allowing it to be available to just anyone, but if say registered users were able to recieve their daily fix, it would help many junkies get through the day in a manner far better for them then methadone. Although with naltrexone and bupremorphine these days its probably not so important an issue any more. You couldn’t legalise ice, it just wouldn’t work, neither coke and crack, but as for the rest, there simply is no reason ecstasy and weed aren’t legal. Statistically your safer doing e then you are going fishing. Now that studies are coming in over 20 year periods examining continued use, its become evident that while heavy usage does lead to brain damage, it is in no different a manner then to that of alcohol abuse. Whatever deaths have occured due to ecstasy are attributed to adulterated pills, simply because there is no legal grounds to guarantee purity. As for grass, Lsd and shrooms, while they may lead to psychosis, this is only in people who are already susceptible to the mental illness and who would be developing it at later stages in their life anyway. People are always going to want to get high and we’ve been doing so for thousands of years, why not regulate it in a manner that allows it all to be much safer for everybody involved, as there is very little difference with some of these drugs, then there is to alcohol and tobacco.
Chris: I think you raise very good points here and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the ideas you refer to are implemented in the future.
Heroin will probably (hopefully) never be legalized here (USA). All it will take is one state or municipality to do it, and as soon as we get our first sanctioned ‘needle park’ it will be all over. The political right will be outraged and the left won’t want anything to do with it (heroin addicts aren’t reliable voters).
Didn’t a couple british heroin addicts recently sue the government stating that work was an undue burden on their freedom or something? That would be hilarious if it happened here. Bill O’Reilly might actually yell himself into an aneurysm.
jfrater: eh, theoretically you could set up a system that could work, yeah. But no. Not here, not ever. You’re assuming that anyone cares if addicts OD. They themselves don’t even seem to care enough to bring victims all the way into the ER, rather than just dumping them on the sidewalk and running. If that.
By my culture’s standards I’m a flaming liberal, and the idea offends even me. First of all, nobody needs heroin. Yes, your body develops a physical addiction, but there is no need to maintain that addiction.
If you’re at the point where you can’t function without heroin, well you’re just a useless human being. Darwin says you lose. Nobody, conservative or liberal, is going to want their tax dollars to pay for it.
Hell, we don’t even pay for poor kids’ healthcare. His Excellency El Presidente Generalisimo Bush II just vetoed that one, to the delight of black-hearted libertarians nationwide.
I would gladly help pay for that. Or single payer health insurance. Whatever. But I’m not going to pay for some dude to get high all the time. I’d like nothing more than to smoke weed all day and play video games. If I can’t do it, nobody else should either.
In this country you have the right to be a complete loser. You also have the right not to be, but you have to work for it. We may all be born equal, but we don’t die that way.
Im not a drug addict or even a heavy user, but I won’t say I never experimented. I have tried several drugs on the list, and have to say the best drug discovered by man was psychedelic mushrooms. Granted, I only tried them a few trimes, and I was fortunate enough to never have a bad trip, but it was magical! Each trip was different depending on the setting, the weather, my mood before, and countless other factors. I would never recommend them with more than 4 or 5 close friends, as I’ve heard that this can lead to bad trips. But anyways, the first time, I ate the mushrooms and drank a little orange juice which I heard enhances the effects, and proceeded to play video games. 45 minutes later, Fifa became 3D. Everything seemed otherworldy and I became deeply philosophical for the next 6 hours. Everything was funny, and everything felt perfect. The nhext morning, I was no longer intoxicated, but I still felt good, and for about a week afterwards I kept feeling those same philosophical thoughts coming back to me. It really did change my outlook on life and brought me more in touch with nature for a period after the trip. And I have never heard of any long term health effects of shrooms. Everything in moderation, though.

Thought that was worth sharing.
wow, ive tried most on the list but being in south africa i didnt realise the range of ecstacy was so wide. i would recommend everyone wanting to try to make sure they havent got addictive personalities because innocent experimentation can perhaps lead to years of addiction.
my first time smoking weed nothing happened
the first time anything happend I just felt good.
***** this propaganda.
