Top 10 Drugs and their Effects
Published on September 27, 2007 - 161 Comments
Drug abuse is a very common problem in most countries so it seemed like a good topic for a list. This is a list of ten of the most abused drugs and the effects they have on people.
1. Heroin
Heroin is an opiate processed directly from the extracts of the opium poppy. It was originally created to help cure people of addiction to morphine. Upon crossing the blood-brain barrier, which occurs soon after introduction of the drug into the bloodstream, heroin is converted into morphine, which mimics the action of endorphins, creating a sense of well-being; the characteristic euphoria has been described as an “orgasm” centered in the gut. One of the most common methods of heroin use is via intravenous injection.
For the last 4 months, my partner and I have been recreationally using heroin. H became our weekend ritual. Lighting candles, playing music, brie and wine and grapes, reading tarot and finally fucking… for hours on end, the most intense beautiful technicolor sex. Each time we did it we got closer to each other. And each time we did it, we wanted to do it again, and again. We tried saying we’d only do it once every two weeks, but that lasted 6 days. We have rules about how much we do in one night, how late we stay up and so on. So far the rules have kept us safe from addiction. Unless you consider the nagging i-don’t-wanna-go-a-weekend-or-have-sex-without-it feelings. We’ve never run out, although, once we were down to our last little bit and I left the vial open on the night stand. I was reaching for the lube when I heard the most sickening sound, the vial falling over. Turns out, I was mistaken, I had remembered to put the cap back on. But in those few seconds of uncertainty, my girl and I shot each other a look we had never seen before.. Fear.
2. Cocaine
Cocaine is a crystalline tropane alkaloid that is obtained from the leaves of the coca plant. It is both a stimulant of the central nervous system and an appetite suppressant, giving rise to what has been described as a euphoric sense of happiness and increased energy. It is most often used recreationally for this effect. Cocaine is a potent central nervous system stimulant. Its effects can last from 20 minutes to several hours, depending upon the dosage of cocaine taken, purity, and method of administration. The initial signs of stimulation are hyperactivity, restlessness, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and euphoria. The euphoria is sometimes followed by feelings of discomfort and depression and a craving to experience the drug again. Sexual interest and pleasure can be amplified. Side effects can include twitching, paranoia, and impotence, which usually increases with frequent usage.
The cocaine arrived and we agreed to use it at a time that translated to three and a half hours after I arrived. It cost $60 for what I was told was an eighth of a gram. This seemed rather expensive, but I was assured that it was ‘high quality product.’ I took the line up my left nostril. After about ninety seconds, I felt my heartbeat increase. It was definitely kicking in. I began to worry a bit, as I could feel my heart pounding and my pulse increasing. I finally felt as if it had reached a plateau. My heartbeat became level, albeit still very high. Many people say that one feels euphoria - being invincible and/or the desire to clean the house. I did not feel either of these (and I did remember to think about these things). For me, the positive effects of cocaine came directly from knowing that I had reached a plateau and I was going to be fine. I felt invigorated, yet also very comfortable.
3. Methamphetamine
Methamphetamime, popularly shortened to meth or ice, is a psychostimulant and sympathomimetic drug. Methamphetamine enters the brain and triggers a cascading release of norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. Since it stimulates the mesolimbic reward pathway, causing euphoria and excitement, it is prone to abuse and addiction. Users may become obsessed or perform repetitive tasks such as cleaning, hand-washing, or assembling and disassembling objects. Withdrawal is characterized by excessive sleeping, eating and depression-like symptoms, often accompanied by anxiety and drug-craving.
We first smoked meth on New Year’s Eve because we heard it was great for sex. I had to work the next day and so saved some to smoke before work in the morning. When I got home another g was waiting for me and I smoked every day but one until I finally quit three months later. For three weeks we smoked meth with little consequence, then my skin became fragile and in addition to breaking out, started to swell. I was really worried because I was constantly thirsty and drinking water, but I rarely urinated. Then my kidneys started hurting. I had lost twenty pounds in two months and my husband had lost thirty, and we’d read somewhere that rapid weight loss can cause kidney failure. I slept every three or four days for an hour or so and woke feeling rested. I was an hour late for work everyday. My husband wrecked the truck three times. One day I forgot to feed my son. Everything was either the highest of highs or the lowest of lows, no in between existed anymore. We were banned from the sauna at our apartment complex because no one else could use it. Our sweat smelled so strongly of ammonia it burned the eyes, it was caustic, and it burned our skin too. My husband and I haven’t done any drugs at all for four weeks, and things are slowly going back to normal. But I still want it. I can’t sleep tonight because I want it. I wrote this in all honesty mostly to help myself, to remind myself why I don’t want it. And still I want it.
4. Crack Cocaine
Crack cocaine, often nicknamed “crack”, is believed to have been created and made popular during the early 1980s . Because of the dangers for manufacturers of using ether to produce pure freebase cocaine, producers began to omit the step of removing the freebase precipitate from the ammonia mixture. Typically, filtration processes are also omitted. Baking soda is now most often used as a base rather than ammonia for reasons of lowered odor and toxicity; however, any weak base can be used to make crack cocaine. When commonly “cooked” the ratio is 1:1 to 2:3 parts cocaine/bicarbonate.
As I held the smoke in for a ten count and exhaled, I thought I felt nothing except a little excitement that was neither bad nor pleasurable. The complete rush some writers have called a ‘whole-body orgasm’ hit me shortly after and I distinctly remember demanding ‘more’ as soon as the realization of heaven-on-earth came. Some people say that the effects of smoking crack lasts 10-15 minutes. For me, it was just a shortest instant of gratification. Everything afterwards was just a great increase in energy and confidence geared towards obtaining more of the drug.
5. LSD
Lysergic acid diethylamide, LSD, LSD-25, or acid, is a semisynthetic psychedelic drug of the tryptamine family. Arguably the most regarded of all psychedelics, it is considered mainly as a recreational drug, an entheogen, and a tool in use to supplement various types of exercises for transcendence including in meditation, psychonautics, and illegal psychedelic psychotherapy whether self administered or not. LSD’s psychological effects (colloquially called a “trip”) vary greatly from person to person, depending on factors such as previous experiences, state of mind and environment, as well as dose strength. They also vary from one trip to another, and even as time passes during a single trip. An LSD trip can have long term psychoemotional effects; some users cite the LSD experience as causing significant changes in their personality and life perspective. Widely different effects emerge based on what Leary called set and setting; the “set” being the general mindset of the user, and the “setting” being the physical and social environment in which the drug’s effects are experienced.
About ten years ago I bought my third trip from a guy in my home town Norwich (UK) It was a ‘Strawberry’ and I was told it had been double dipped. The guy had a reputation for selling good acid so I happily gave him my cash. I took the single LSD tab in the late morning in a positive state of mind with no worries or anxieties. I began to come up on the acid towards the lunch time. It was to be the first and last time I’d ever trip alone. Outside it was a glorious sunny day but I was happy enough in my temporary sanctuary to even think about going outside. The LSD rush started blazing up my spine and racing through my guts, I felt a little uneasy with it but had enough mind to allow myself to just go with it and wait until the rush plateaued. I was having a wonderful time, watching floral Escher type patterns breathing over my skin. I vaguely recall deciding to go downstairs again for some reason then the next thing I recall was awakening on the floor of the dining room alone. The first thing I noticed was that there were blowflies buzzing around a bowl of catfood on the kitchen floor. I remember feeling perplexed as to why both flies had two bright neon after images in red and blue. Somehow I navigated myself through Norwich during the busy lunchtime shoppers and begun to head in the direction of the city’s central park ‘Chapelfield gardens’. If you could imagine for a moment being surrounded by people in a busy place where their heads had been removed and replaced by Squids and Octopus you might begin to accurately picture the scene confronting me in the park. Everyone had tentacles smothering their faces and dangling down their necks like fleshy snake beards, even the women and children were not exempt from this disfiguration. In retrospect, it was the worst day of my entire life, It was the closest I can imagine to having full blown psychosis.
6. Ecstasy
Ecstasy (MDMA) is a semisynthetic psychedelic entactogen of the phenethylamine family that is much less visual with more stimulant like effects than most all other common “trip” producing psychedelics. It is considered mainly a recreational drug that’s often used with sex and associated with club drugs, as an entheogen, and a tool in use to supplement various types of practices for transcendence including in meditation, psychonautics, and illicit psychedelic psychotherapy whether self administered or not. The primary effects of MDMA include an increased awareness of the senses, feelings of openness, euphoria, empathy, love, happiness, heightened self-awareness, feeling of mental clarity and an increased appreciation of music and movement. Tactile sensations are enhanced for some users, making physical contact with others more pleasurable. Other side effects, such as jaw clenching and elevated pulse, are common.
Sitting comfortably in our cosy living room, Café del Mar and similar CDs playing in the background, we began at 8 pm. I swallowed one white tablet with water. Over the next hour nothing much happened except that I found myself talking quite openly and confidently with the others, moving very easily into interesting conversations. This was a little unusual for me as I am normally quite shy and overly self-conscious in social situations and it takes me a while to loosen up. The next thing I experienced was a striking shift in my visual perception. I don’t mean a hallucination or a distortion, but a wonderful step up in the aesthetic quality. For a moment it was like being in one of those nostalgic TV ads where the world looks all gold and sepia. ‘Everything’s gone amber!’ I blurted. But then I found that my vision was becoming beautifully enhanced. It made my normal visual experience seem like cheap, fuzzy CCTV footage in comparison. Now I was seeing the world anew in sharp, lush, top-quality Technicolor! I also began to move in time to the music. The music! Oh, the music! Wow! It sounded so good, so organic! The uplifted state stayed with me and took a long time to fade — at least a couple of weeks. It had unleashed in me a rush of joy that was still accessible when I focused on it weeks later.
7. Opium
Opium is a resinous narcotic formed from the latex released by lacerating (or “scoring”) the immature seed pods of opium poppies (Papaver somniferum). It contains up to 16% morphine, an opiate alkaloid, which is most frequently processed chemically to produce heroin for the illegal drug trade. Opium has gradually been superseded by a variety of purified, semi-synthetic, and synthetic opioids with progressively stronger effect, and by other general anesthesia. This process began in 1817, when Friedrich Wilhelm Adam Sertürner reported the isolation of pure morphine from opium after at least thirteen years of research and a nearly disastrous trial on himself and three boys.
I remember that what I smoked was much easier to smoke than marijuana. There was no burning in my throat nor in my lungs. I took a very large, smooth hit. Smoking it like marijuana, I held it in for about 10 or 15 seconds and let it out. It didn’t taste like marijuana, I remember the taste being rather faint. It actually tasted and smelled like incense. I was very surprised to suddenly find myself on the floor, in the dark, with a crowd of people surrounding me. Apparently I had fainted and fallen to the ground, but I hadn’t noticed. The high itself is rather hard to describe. It was much more intense than marijuana. It felt heavy, like my whole body was being impacted… but it also felt very clear and refined at the same time. As I made my way towards the bathroom the drug began to kick in again. My steps kind of faded away and it felt like I was just floating over to the bathroom. The scary thing was though, that I was having trouble seeing. My vision was fading. Distinct figures melted into shadows and everything had a sparkle to it. All of a sudden, everything felt really good. I couldn’t stop smiling. Everything was profound in a very positive way, especially the music since it resonated everywhere. It was a very abstruse experience. I imagine that I was coming down at this point, an hour had surely past by because the band was building a climax to end their first set. I went along with the crowd and made my way outside. The fresh air was wonderful. The cool air seemed to wrap around my body. A slight breeze on the back of my neck sent chills that rapidly multiplied throughout my body.
8. Marijuana
Cannabis, known as marijuana in its herbal form, is a psychoactive product of the plant Cannabis sativa. Humans have been consuming cannabis since prehistory, although in the 20th century there was a rise in its use for recreational, religious or spiritual, and medicinal purposes. It is estimated that about four percent of the world’s adult population use cannabis annually. It has psychoactive and physiological effects when consumed, usually by smoking or ingestion. The minimum amount of THC required to have a perceptible psychoactive effect is about 10 micrograms per kilogram of body weight. The state of intoxication due to cannabis consumption is colloquially known as a “high”; it is the state where mental and physical facilities are noticeably altered due to the consumption of cannabis. Each user experiences a different high, and the nature of it may vary upon factors such as potency, dose, chemical composition, method of consumption and set and setting.
After taking that first hit, and not feeling the effects within a minute (holding it in for a minute, and then waiting a little bit after exhaling) I decided, well I better hit this again, harder if I can. I took just as large of a hit, and again held it in for longer than a minute. I let my brother know I was really starting to feel something now and I don’t think I liked it all. It snuck up on me really bad, and I still had no idea what to expect. I wanted him to be quiet. Laying down was not helping, so I got back up. I went back to the garage and tried to explain to everyone ‘I am totally fucked up. This is scary!’ I was rationalizing everything tremendously, but it was SO intense! And it was only getting more intense faster! I didn’t know what to expect, I was sinking within myself, accelerating downward like into the depths of my own oblivion. I was a novice, I had no idea what to expect, and the world had become out of synch, the talking of my brothers, his friend, all ridiculous and extremely annoying. I became amazingly irritable and wanted them to leave me alone or not talk in my presence. They did not understand or appreciate my fear, and they began to get loud again. I ran upstairs to my parents bed and laid down with some wistful hope that I could wait out this storm.
9. Psilocybin Mushrooms
Psilocybin mushrooms (also called psilocybian mushrooms) are fungi that contain the psychedelic substances psilocybin and psilocin, and occasionally other psychoactive tryptamines. There are multiple colloquial terms for psilocybin mushrooms, the most common being magic mushrooms or ’shrooms. When psilocybin is ingested, it is broken down to produce psilocin, which is responsible for the hallucinogenic effects. The intoxicating effects of psilocybin-containing mushrooms typically last anywhere from 3 to 7 hours depending on dosage, preparation method and personal metabolism. The experience is typically inwardly oriented, with strong visual and auditory components. Visions and revelations may be experienced, and the effect can range from exhilarating to distressing. There can be also a total absence of effects, even with large doses.
I had acquired about 8 grams of dried mushrooms and some liquid psilocybin equivalent to another 5 grams of powdered mushrooms. I swallowed the liquid first, on an empty stomach of course. I could feel a slight sensation after about 10-15 minutes. Then I added the powder to some water in a mug and swallowed that also. I then sat by the camp fire, listening to the wind in the trees while I contemplated what was about to happen. After about 45-50 minutes I heard a ‘voice’ calling to me. It wasn’t audible in the normal sense - it came from inside my own mind! Then I was gone - out of this world. I escaped into what I perceived to be the outer boundaries of my mind or my imagination. This placed presented itself as a natural forest with low light. Here I met the owner of the aforementioned voice - the Mushroom Goddess. She took the form of a white, strapless, ankle-length dress, standing side-on from me. For about the next two hours I dialoged with her, becoming totally bewitched by her charm, her wit, her intelligence, her knowledge, her unconditional affection for me and her seemingly infinite perspective. I have come to think of her as my other-worldly girlfriend.
10. PCP
PCP (Phencyclidine) is a dissociative drug formerly used as an anesthetic agent, exhibiting hallucinogenic and neurotoxic effects. It is commonly known as Angel Dust, but is also known as Wet, Sherm, Sherman Hemsley, Rocket Fuel, Ashy Larry, Shermans Tank, Wack, Halk Hogan, Ozone, HannaH, Hog, Manitoba Shlimbo, and Embalming Fluid, among other names. Although the primary psychoactive effects of the drug only last hours, total elimination from the body is prolonged, typically extending over weeks. PCP is consumed in a recreational manner by drug users, mainly in the United States, where the demand is met by illegal production. It comes in both powder and liquid forms (PCP base dissolved most often in ether), but typically it is sprayed onto leafy material such as marijuana, mint, oregano, parsley or Ginger Leaves, and smoked. PCP has potent effects on the nervous system altering perceptual functions (hallucinations, delusional ideas, delirium or confused thinking), motor functions (unsteady gait, loss of coordination, and disrupted eye movement or nystagmus), and autonomic nervous system regulation (rapid heart rate, altered temperature regulation). The drug has been known to alter mood states in an unpredictable fashion causing some individuals to become detached and others to become animated.
When I was taking the drug, I used very small amounts. The effect was incredibly pleasant and social, so much so that me and my friends all used it instead of booze for almost a year. I couldn’t dance for shit on the stuff (I’d get stumbly and actually fell on my ass on the dancefloor once) but the physical sensations and mental pictures were really fun. It is quite different from any psychedelic visuals or even Ketamine visuals…more like rolling through old film footage. To be honest, I liked it more than my experiences on Ketamine. PCP can make one nearly impervious to pain at high doses. Because of this, PCP can make things seem like a good idea that otherwise wouldn’t (leading to the stories of people leaping out of windows, etc.) I experienced very confusing physical reality when really high on it, like being unable to discern the difference between walking up stairs and down them, or standing still and walking. This could lead to very unusual behaviour.

Obviously that was that guy’s first time smoking weed. I WISH it were like that every time.
2. jfrater - September 27th, 2007 at 6:35 am
Anna: it was - he ended up calling 911
3. wowzer - September 27th, 2007 at 6:51 am
Whoa. That last one sounds pretty dreadful, actually. The dialogue on the section about mushrooms made me laugh.
4. Joe - September 27th, 2007 at 6:51 am
This shows my age, but when I clicked on the list I thought it was going to be a list of drugs like Aspirin, Lipitor, Viagra etc.
5. jfrater - September 27th, 2007 at 6:56 am
wowzer: yeah - he really ought to write a book
Joe: Heh - I am planning a list of more mainstream legal drugs at some point
6. dalandzadgad - September 27th, 2007 at 7:11 am
i always find drugs and its effects to be fascinating, although i’ve never been tempted enough to try it.

interesting list though, quite informative.

*sigh* setting myself up here by getting into the comment stream but..
cool list. any drug can be abused. any drug can illicit a ‘bad experience’. in this country..if ’street drugs’ were taken out of the legal system and left to the medical professionals, the drugs themselves were legalized, under quality control and taxed with those taxes put towards researching and curing addictions and the social and biological conditions that create addiction (w/ its subsequent social ills and issues) you’d not be reading ‘horror stories’ like some of these posted here. people do ’street drugs’ for a reason and more often than not it has nothing to do w/ them wanting to commit a crime but to answer some other physical or psychological need. so long as it is ‘criminalized’ there will be criminal elements involved who will take advantage of the situation for their own profit.
and yeah..this is one of my ‘pet peeves’ as to why street drugs are illegal in this country. i come at this from a social service background having worked in community mental health centers where most of the patients have some kind of street drug connection. and i have other reasons for wanting street drugs out of the court system and into the medical system too. also there is for me that issue of being responsible for your own behavior, getting government out of our personal affairs and practicing responsible behavior in public, leaving things like drug use for private use only.
8. jfrater - September 27th, 2007 at 7:21 am
Cyn: I agree with your sentiments entirely.
9. Jennifer - September 27th, 2007 at 7:21 am
OMG, Never again will I try X. I thought my brain was going to explode. And Shrooms….don’t even get me started. Word of advice, don’t do ANY of these drugs by yourself…..you’ll want to die!
=P

Cyn: Excellent comment. I share much of the same beliefs, though I’m probably too young yet to fully understand the implications of legalizing street drugs (I’ve never had any contact with them, thank heavens.) I do think that, to some people, the psychological needs they feel may stem from a willingness to break from the norm, an unconscious need to be different, and if it means breaking the law, then so be it. The human psyche innately feels the drive to be recognized, and for many that means doing something exciting, different, and sometimes dangerous (which is why so many failing stars such as Britney Spears turn to alcohol and drugs once they realize they are no longer the hot item.) Now, I’m by no means a psychologist, but I do know that for many people (in criminal cases), breaking the law actually stimulates the sensory pathways that give the feeling of personal reward and gratification. So, in the case of drugs, there’s the pleasure of standing out as well as the physical element of the drug. It’s easy to see how addictions become psychological at that point, even for drugs that aren’t commonly considered addictive, such as marijuana. For that reason, I believe that there should be strict regulations on drugs, but no, they shouldn’t be totally criminalized.

That guy that smoked the weed has had experiences similar to my own, I would get too “baked”and then start to think about my mortality and when and what it will feel like when I die,it really makes it unenjoyable, therefore I pretty much have refrained from smoking bud anymore. I must say though that I must take prescription drugs(percocet, oxycontin)and I swear, if they could make the socalled antidepressant drugs(prozac, wellbutrin)make me feel like these drugs I would be one happy customer.JF, you should do one on the diffrent kinds of prescription painkillers out there.:)

Meth is a big problem in Portland and in a lot of good communities i have seen it tear whole family’s and communities apart
13. netexile - September 27th, 2007 at 9:58 am
In my youth I did quite a few of these drugs, but by far the scariest were magic mushrooms! We picked about 300 and then made a pot of tea out of them. The result was like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from and I had a panic attack which lasted for 4 hours! The only lasting effects of any of these drugs I have experienced is a tendnacy to repeat myself… a tendancy to repeat myself
14. Leo - September 27th, 2007 at 10:34 am
Good list and really interesting experiences, funny stuff…however I wish you would also included all the negative effects of such drugs…..Wassup with that Jamie?
P.S.: BTW I’ve never done any drugs, thank goodness.
15. jfrater - September 27th, 2007 at 11:26 am
Jennifer: I noticed people saying that in the various testimonials too. Good advice!
Joe: I do plan to to do a legal drugs list too - mostly to satisfy my own curiosity - I know the names but not the supposed benefits.
Mix2323: I think it is probably one of the worst drugs of all - the devastation seems far worse than even heroin.
netexile: thank goodness you got out of it all!
Leo: are you being sarcastic? Did you read the personal experience of number 3?
16. Leo - September 27th, 2007 at 11:34 am
Yea but most of them seemed like they were promoting the use of drugs….I dunno that’s the impression I got
17. jfrater - September 27th, 2007 at 11:41 am
Leo: ok - it was unintentional if that is the case
18. JOE ROSSON - September 27th, 2007 at 11:48 am
I used to dabble in meth with friends about ten years ago, but the weird thing about it with me was that even though I could not eat a bite or sleep a wink I would clam up and just sit and stare out into space, usually people become jabberjaws on meth but not me,it was the opposite. That and it would really cause certan parts of my body to shrink for the duration of the trip.
19. netexile - September 27th, 2007 at 11:54 am
I used to subcribe to the theory that legalising drugs, taking them out of the hands of the criminal element, and controlling the purity would be a better answer to the present zero tolerance attitudes perpetuated by successive governments worldwide. I live in a place where alcohol and it’s related illnesses is the biggest killer per annum, and I came to the conclusion that legalising more recreational drugs would in all likeliness create more of a health and financial burden on services in the long run, coupled with far reaching social problems.
The question that governments and society should be asking is “Why do people take drugs in the first place?” The majority of addicts live a hopless life and are from the poorest communities. Addressing the alienation of the disenfranchised in our society is the first step to giving these people options in life. Reducing the demand is the only answer. Unfortunately this approach isn’t a “vote winner” so it will never be implemented.
20. Joe - September 27th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
Jamie, there are some interesting legal drugs out there that might make a cool list.
-All of the antidepressants are facinating in how they can change the personality of certain people (for better and worse). Makes one wonder about the nature of what we identify as “self”. Same goes for the antipsychotics and antianxiety drugs.
-Some of the drugs that have been around forever and continue to be mainstays of treatment in disease like digoxin, aspirin and Theophylline.
-The new antibiotics for “superbugs”, stem cells, and the promise of nanotechnology in medicine.
21. 9000 - September 27th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Leo - maybe you got the impression that they were ‘promoting’ drug use because the blurbs came from Erowid.org, not the DEA or the Office or Drug Control Policy or whatever. All those stories end up with people dying or becoming whores and getting aids and stuff. Government propaganda. Not that that kind of thing doesn’t happen, but it’s not a given.
I used to feel strongly that drugs should be legalized (I gambled on most of these in my youth and got lucky), but now I’m a father and I’ve changed my mind. I don’t think its a simple issue.
I’m not a social worker, but I do volunteer work at homeless shelters and community outreach programs when I can. I lived in a town that was notorious for its meth problems. Damned tweekers just about ruined the place.
That drug should never be legalized. I’ve seen how it changes people, not just physically, like all the ‘awareness’ stuff focuses on, but mentally.
Tweekers are like human-sized rats. Even the people that kick it stay forever paranoid, edgy, shifty. Their brains don’t work right anymore.
OK, so I bet all sorts of people have an issue with that last paragraph. Yeah, maybe you have done it a couple times (like I did) and you made it out OK. I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to the people who made a habit out of it.
I don’t care how long you’ve been clean for, your brain’s broken now. You’re dumber than you used to be, you look 10 years older than you should, and you always assume that someone somewhere is trying to screw you over.
I’ve met plenty of drug users and I’ve met plenty of people that have quit all of these drugs and gone on to put their lives back together and become good productive people. Every drug except meth. Stay away from it.

I would like to know where these excerpts come from if you could.
23. jfrater - September 27th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
Henry: I mention it at the end of the article - erowid.com - an excellent site.
24. Diogenes - September 27th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
You forgot to include Mugwump “Milk” on the list.
25. chadster - September 27th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
At my college, it seems like eveybody is in to salvia…and weed of course.
26. f&f - September 27th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
…”people that have quit all of these drugs and gone on to put their lives back together and become good productive people.”
i find statements like this to be quite ignorant. drugs (and i speak mainly of natural psychedelics) are intensely individual as experiences. what are psilocybin mushrooms and cannibis and such but gifts from god? perhaps we should look deeper into the correlation between OUR CULTURE and the use of drugs, rather than simply just the use of drugs, which in and of itself can be a life changing, unbelievebly beautiful experience….
27. netexile - September 27th, 2007 at 3:21 pm
f&f: No one I know who used naturally occuring psychedelic drugs on a regular basis had their lives changed for the better. I’m sure they had beautiful experiences but most of them suffer, or have suffered from mental health problems since. Your assertion that these drugs are “a gift from God” sounds like some cliche from the 60s quite frankly. There are naturally occuring deadly poisons too, are they also a gift from God?
28. Mathilda - September 27th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
I think Faces of Meth is fairly horrifying, especially seeing the difference in people who have not been using meth for that long. That said, I really do not see why it is such a big deal for people to recreationally use drugs. I think it’s a bit hypocritical, actually, that it is perfectly legal for a white suburban soccer mom (with insurance) to be zonked out on Prozac all the time while an uninsured African-American single working mother can go to jail if she’s caught smoking a blunt on a Friday night.
29. ryan - September 27th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
ive smoked a lot of weed in the last year or so and ive never had any experience nearly that bad (or a single bad high at all). ive also tried shrooms about 5 times in the last year. that was an amazing feeling. the only bad part was a friend (who was also shroomin’) and i were walking around town and i unknowingly walked into a street, thinking it was just a big streak of blue. by far though, acid is the best drug ive ever done. the three times ive done it stand out as the most profound days of my life. everyone should try LSD.

31. Hannah - September 27th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
I’m very glad to say that I never once had the desire to use any of these drugs. I agree with Leo though, it did seem like this was promoting the use of drugs and their “cool” effects. Having a brother who has used Heroine for the majority of the last 15 years, it makes me sick to my stomach to know that people think they can use drugs “recreationally”. Heroine has done nothing but destroy my brother’s life, and take the lives of at least a dozen of his friends.
32. Robert - September 27th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
The only drug I’ve done that scares me is Coke. It makes me happy and talkative but when it runs out, I can even turn violent and that scares me because that is just not my nature.
33. MC Zippo - September 27th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
Alot of these I have never tried and never will. However the majority of people (at least around here), including myself have had there fair share of weed. I grew out of it, it got old and I lost interest in it.
I think LSD would be very interesting to try, and if there was some security in not having any lasting side effects I would probably try it. Opium too.
But I think Salvia (as someone else mentioned) would be a good honorable mention. I’ve had alot of very “Unique” experiences with it.

Glad I’ve never done any drugs but from the stories i hear (not just from junkies or frequent users but from some people I’d actually trust) marijauna just isnt as bad as the worst case scenarios they show. Other drugs scare me, meth especially cause i live in the area with the worst meth problems in the country and you will see people that look like they’re extras in a resident evil movie all the time in newspapers
35. netexile - September 27th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
That doesn’t sound good Robert, probably best stay away from it in future. I only took coke once and it turned me into what can only be described as a Game Show Host for 20 mins. It was reason enough never to do it again
36. heavenlymayday - September 27th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
Never done drugs myaelf, I’ve seen the effects of them though. It seems to me that a lot of times a person who has done hard drugs for a while develops a weird spacey fragile personality. It’s disconcerting. I mean, I’ve known people who have been off of drugs for YEARS and they still act druggy. It’s hard to explain, but maybe someone else more eloquent than I knows what I am talking about and can elaborate. I’ve always just called it fried.
37. JazzMan - September 27th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
I have tried a few of these, and while a lot of it is great, sometimes that leads to the problems.
As Robert said, running out of coke when you want more will just lead you to be pissed off and not get any sleep.
LSD was one heck of an experience though. Just make sure you’re in the right frame of mind to do it, and have a comfortable place to be. Not that you should do it, but if I can’t stop you, at least don’t get yourself killed by freaking out. Do it safe.
38. Fe - September 27th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
People have been searching for the ultimate high since we climbed out of the trees and I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon.
They have found traces of psychotropic drugs in tombs, described in ancient writings, even pictured in wall reliefs and other artwork.
Governments, religions and languages come and go, but two things always stay the same. No matter what you call them, there will always be a group who will use drugs to dull the boredom and/or agony of their everyday lives and there will always be a group who use drugs to ’stick it to the man’, ‘turn on, tune in, drop out’, ‘experience life in hi def’ or whatever the current ‘cool’ phrase is.
Personally, I don’t touch drugs or alcohol, but that’s a combination of seeing first hand the effects of abuse and being just a bit of a control freak. If someone else wants to fry their brain, I don’t really care, that’s their business, as long as they don’t bring harm to other people through their own stupidity. Unfortunately, innocent bystanders always seem to be standing by, ready and waiting.
39. Kelsi - September 27th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Excellent list! I’m very interested in the drug culture, so I was interested to read your top 10 list. I would also nominate salvia for honorable mention.
40. Shane - September 27th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
whoever wrote the description of their experience with mushrooms either lied or had some very weak stuff. 13 grams would do you in for much, much longer than a mere 2 hours, regardless of whether it was your first time or not.
41. ryan - September 27th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
shane’s right. the average mushroom dose is about 1 to 2 grams. the effects of the average dose lasts about 6 hours, so 13 grams would have you tripping for days.
42. Andre du Plessis - September 28th, 2007 at 1:37 am
Whoo… imagine the experience when you mix them altogether :
You can have repeated invigorated sex while losing weight, with a confused laughing mushroom goddess with an octopus head while floating on the ceiling, very aware about the fact you forgot to put a cushion on the floor for when you come down.
43. jfrater - September 28th, 2007 at 1:59 am
Great comments everyone - I laughed aloud at some of them.
Shane and Ryan: In the preface to the guy’s story, he said that he was extremely overweight and took a much larger dose than was necessary. Having never done ’shrooms I have no idea whether that is likely. Thanks for raising the point though.
Kelsi: Thanks for mentioning Salvia (along with the others who did earlier) - it does deserve an honorable mention.
44. jfrater - September 28th, 2007 at 2:17 am
Andre: hah - it reads like a William Burrough’s novel
45. batesman - September 28th, 2007 at 5:01 am
If you get around to it, read up a bit on DMT (Dimethyltriptamine)…absolutely fascinating stories. But one drug I certainly will never try!

batesman: thanks - I will do that.
47. Kelsi - September 28th, 2007 at 7:14 am
Now that I’m a bit more with it than last night when I left that comment…I was surprised not to see DMX, as I think it is more common than some of the drugs you listed, at least in my area. But regardless, still a list I enjoyed reading. =)
48. Yarr - September 28th, 2007 at 8:45 am
Different people use drugs for as many reasons as there are individual personalities. It’s not neccessarily to numb some deep personal pain or to ’stick it to the man’ as someone said above. I tried pot out of sheer curiosity. There was obviously something to it because such a big deal was made about it, so what the hell…
Have to say, I liked it and used it occasionally for a while. I never had any desire to try coke, meth, PCP, or any of the other designer drugs that pot is supposedly a ‘gateway’ to. I have to admit I tried ’shrooms, out of the same WTF curiosity. It was pretty neat. I guess I would do them again if the opportunity arose, but if not, whatever.
Just sayin’ it’s not always a sad story…
49. 9000 - September 28th, 2007 at 9:55 am
f&f - Oh HILARIOUS! You call me ignorant and then trot out the old ‘Gift from God’ crap.
Thanks, you made my day. I was speaking of hard, refined drugs of course, but I think you just highlighted the danger of psychedelic drug use: becoming a hippie. As a recovering hippie myself I can tell you that there is hope. There are people out there that can help you. They’re called employers.
Far out, man, I know! But seriously, I hope you’re in college or something. If you’re over 25 and a still a hippie, a government check isn’t too far into your future. I’ve never met an adult hippie that wasn’t collecting some sort of disability money. And I’ve met a LOT, because they have the best weed.
50. James - September 29th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
Legalising The harder drugs Would be a disaster. Taxing the sale of the drugs in order to invest in research to cure the problems resulting from addiction is totally ridiculous. It’s like poisoning someone just so you can give them the cure. Am I the only one who can see the irony here?
Soft drugs like marijuana are not family breakers, ice and herion are. Big difference. I have tried a few of the above with varying results, never resulting in addiction though. Luckily. But that’s down to your personal makeup and background I think. Anyway, drugs aren’t going anywhere. The results aren’t pretty and I feel for those who are caught up in them. However help is available to those who want it. Self appointed moral compasses should just accept it and move on, end of story.

53. Chris - October 3rd, 2007 at 8:08 am
I think legalising heroin would be an effective method of crime prevention. Not allowing it to be available to just anyone, but if say registered users were able to recieve their daily fix, it would help many junkies get through the day in a manner far better for them then methadone. Although with naltrexone and bupremorphine these days its probably not so important an issue any more. You couldn’t legalise ice, it just wouldn’t work, neither coke and crack, but as for the rest, there simply is no reason ecstasy and weed aren’t legal. Statistically your safer doing e then you are going fishing. Now that studies are coming in over 20 year periods examining continued use, its become evident that while heavy usage does lead to brain damage, it is in no different a manner then to that of alcohol abuse. Whatever deaths have occured due to ecstasy are attributed to adulterated pills, simply because there is no legal grounds to guarantee purity. As for grass, Lsd and shrooms, while they may lead to psychosis, this is only in people who are already susceptible to the mental illness and who would be developing it at later stages in their life anyway. People are always going to want to get high and we’ve been doing so for thousands of years, why not regulate it in a manner that allows it all to be much safer for everybody involved, as there is very little difference with some of these drugs, then there is to alcohol and tobacco.
54. jfrater - October 3rd, 2007 at 8:11 am
Chris: I think you raise very good points here and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the ideas you refer to are implemented in the future.
55. 9000 - October 3rd, 2007 at 10:02 am
Heroin will probably (hopefully) never be legalized here (USA). All it will take is one state or municipality to do it, and as soon as we get our first sanctioned ‘needle park’ it will be all over. The political right will be outraged and the left won’t want anything to do with it (heroin addicts aren’t reliable voters).
Didn’t a couple british heroin addicts recently sue the government stating that work was an undue burden on their freedom or something? That would be hilarious if it happened here. Bill O’Reilly might actually yell himself into an aneurysm.
56. jfrater - October 3rd, 2007 at 11:19 am
9000: I think, given strict controls, it could work - if the rules were that the only people who could have a heroin prescription were people that were addicted, the government could ensure that those who need it get it - while there would still be some who would take it illegally, at least if the government produced it it would be a consistent quality and would dramatically reduce the number of people who OD.
57. 9000 - October 3rd, 2007 at 2:18 pm
jfrater: eh, theoretically you could set up a system that could work, yeah. But no. Not here, not ever. You’re assuming that anyone cares if addicts OD. They themselves don’t even seem to care enough to bring victims all the way into the ER, rather than just dumping them on the sidewalk and running. If that.
By my culture’s standards I’m a flaming liberal, and the idea offends even me. First of all, nobody needs heroin. Yes, your body develops a physical addiction, but there is no need to maintain that addiction.
If you’re at the point where you can’t function without heroin, well you’re just a useless human being. Darwin says you lose. Nobody, conservative or liberal, is going to want their tax dollars to pay for it.
Hell, we don’t even pay for poor kids’ healthcare. His Excellency El Presidente Generalisimo Bush II just vetoed that one, to the delight of black-hearted libertarians nationwide.
I would gladly help pay for that. Or single payer health insurance. Whatever. But I’m not going to pay for some dude to get high all the time. I’d like nothing more than to smoke weed all day and play video games. If I can’t do it, nobody else should either.
In this country you have the right to be a complete loser. You also have the right not to be, but you have to work for it. We may all be born equal, but we don’t die that way.
58. WatAbout - October 12th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Im not a drug addict or even a heavy user, but I won’t say I never experimented. I have tried several drugs on the list, and have to say the best drug discovered by man was psychedelic mushrooms. Granted, I only tried them a few trimes, and I was fortunate enough to never have a bad trip, but it was magical! Each trip was different depending on the setting, the weather, my mood before, and countless other factors. I would never recommend them with more than 4 or 5 close friends, as I’ve heard that this can lead to bad trips. But anyways, the first time, I ate the mushrooms and drank a little orange juice which I heard enhances the effects, and proceeded to play video games. 45 minutes later, Fifa became 3D. Everything seemed otherworldy and I became deeply philosophical for the next 6 hours. Everything was funny, and everything felt perfect. The nhext morning, I was no longer intoxicated, but I still felt good, and for about a week afterwards I kept feeling those same philosophical thoughts coming back to me. It really did change my outlook on life and brought me more in touch with nature for a period after the trip. And I have never heard of any long term health effects of shrooms. Everything in moderation, though.

Thought that was worth sharing.
59. nadine - October 15th, 2007 at 7:50 am
wow, ive tried most on the list but being in south africa i didnt realise the range of ecstacy was so wide. i would recommend everyone wanting to try to make sure they havent got addictive personalities because innocent experimentation can perhaps lead to years of addiction.

Never done the herion.Never wanted to.Was tricked into the angel dust,it was laced in the joint we were smoking and, i was not informed. But,i didn’t have a bad trip.Never did it again though.Tried the opium, cocaine, crack, meth.Got into crack REALLY bad and im LUCKY i was able to get away from it,ALIVE!!!!I always had good trips on the shrooms and paper acid. Was told along time ago not do ANY acid if your in a bad mood.i never took any acid when i was in a bad mood so, i always had good mushroom and acid trips.Too old to do anything now but smoke weed.Am too scared to do anything esle anymore. But,I LOVE MY WEED.And people gotta know that you cant NEVER mix alcohol with anything.I do not drink anymore either.Would rather be stoned than drunk.Ive been around so many drinkers that will get drunk then smoke weed and say that stuff really f***ed me up!It pisses me off for people to give pot a bad name after drinking or doing whatever else.It wasnt the weed,it was the alcohol! So you gotta do one or the other.I choose the weed..You also have to know how to handle yourself when your stoned.Alot of people get paraoniod, the munches, lazy.Ive have gone through all of the above and can maintain myself stoned better than most straight people.I have smoked weed since 1976 at the age of nine.Yes i know that was too young.I had three older sisters and lived in Houston.Never even heard of drugs till we moved there.Personally,I think the alcohol should be illegal. And i NEVER had a bad trip on weed by itself. If you cant handle it,stay away from it!

I have noticed a recurring theme from alot of the “pro-drug” commenters that they, most of them anyway, have never had a “bad trip” and haven’t become addicted. Why should we encourage someone to partake of something that could give them a bad trip or potentially cause a devestating addiction for years?
We might all agree that the adrenaline rush would be incredible if we laid down on the road in between the lanes of the interstate, like in the movie The Program, and felt the cars going by at 70mph just inches away from our head. We would all agree, presumably, that the risk isn’t worth the rush.
Aren’t we minimalizing the potential risks for fleeting pleasures, even if they give us the most profound thoughts and feelings?
65. alisa - November 1st, 2007 at 3:26 am

Peggy, i totally agree with you. we have some of the best grass growing here in south africa and most of it grows unchecked as much of the country is undeveloped. weed is much healthier psychologically as there is no fucking thing as domestic violence with potheads. just drunkard trash that beat up on their wives and kids.

I’ve been smoking pot and taking other drugs for 32 years, had good jobs and relationships, maintained a healthy diet and a positive mental attitude most of the time. Drugs are great fun, thats why people take them, not cos they’re f’ed up. Some people get messed up, but most don’t. Pot, acid, E and shrooms are fun and open your eyes, the other drugs just eat your brain and your money and your friends! Decriminalise all drugs and educate young people with real facts not sensational lies. Governments will never win the war on drugs cos it’s a war against its own people and one day they will wake up and realise this but by then we’ll all be crackheads/prozac zombies/viagra stiffs/alcoholics/tobacco stains/sugar junkies/fat suckers…..what’s the difference?

That story about marijuana is very consistent with my experience with the drug. For a person who already has extremely high anxiety/paranoia and who is prone to strings of negative thought, marijuana can be a mostly negative experience. But add that to the fact that I am a control freak, and you’ll understand why it’s just not my cup of tea. Although I do think it should be legal.

Being tall and athletic I played basketball in my youth. Drugs were easy in High School, I have no idea where to get them now. I guess because I was a good player, the black guys would take me in their neighborhood and get me high on their “homegrown.” For some reason they enjoyed getting me high, I never asked for it, they ALWAYS brought me along. That was the best shit I ever had. Several years later, I was with one of them friends and his “white” asshole friend. I say asshole because he had his dope and he questioned my black friend about me because he wanted to smoke this crap. I really did not want anything to do with it, we were on our way to lift weights, besides he was a real asshole. I did anyway. So I smoked this shit as I did pot, sucked it in real deep and held it for a while. This I did about 3 times before I felt it kick in. We were driving down the highway when the road seemed to get very close to my face, and the road sounded very loud. We got to the place, I stepped out of the car and the building got really tall and really close to me. I was freaking out. When I stood up, I felt like a dwarf, other people looked like dwarfs. I went through every emotion in about 15 minutes (I guess) It lasted about an hour and a half and I started to feel better. As we were leaving, the dumbass asked me if I wanted a hit off a new joint - I punched him in the nose. Asshole. I later found out he had laced the pot with PCP and didn’t tell me. I never have done that again - you never know WTF it is you are taking.

The effects of weed where you think your shrinking into the floor, is just your eyes perception adjusting to the introduced THC, therfore altering your eyes focusing ability and allowing for the “zooming” capability, and therefore if you look at your feet you think its all on one geographical plane, when its not, your still the same height, you just think your shorter, and the floor is taller

Here’s a legal OTC drug.
http://www.pfizerch.com/upload.....nal_lg.jpg
I’ve personally been on dramamine 3-4 times. Just a short story. I was at my friends house and we had decided to go for a “walk” of sorts. We grabbed some cash, bought 3 packs of dramamine and headed out to walk the railroad tracks. We each took 12 at first, it took about 20-30 minutes to set in, but when it did, oh god. The feeling was energetic, like I had to move, and my leg kept twitching whenever we’d stop for a break. 10-20 minutes later the energetic feeling came down, and a new one came up. It was amazing, I was hallucinating, if I looked at one spot for too long, I’d see a dog, or a cloud of black smoke. At one point the cloud zoomed towards me, and I freaked out. We left for home when we started to come down, and I didn’t sleep for 3 days.
It rocked.

it’s funny how it turns into “well i’ve done this drug and blah blah blah.” drug competition or something.
and i have never heard of bubblegummer.
anyway thank goodness meth wasn’t a big problem where i lived, that makes people disgusting.
and going back to what rick b about not knowing what you’re actually getting: so true, you really do have to be careful. otherwise you could end up convinced you are going to die and other not fun stuff.
i, on the other hand, shall not disclose my experiences.
(dude, acid was sooooo fun!)
105. Mystern - January 25th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Hm. I’ve been around drugs my entire life. I know people from every category: addicts, regular users, weekend warriors, casual users and ex users. One common theme I’ve noticed in talking to each of them, they all believe that the best (though least common) use of drugs is when everything in life is going well and you just want to have some fun. They all agree that the worst (and most common) use of drugs is to escape life. That’s what creates addicts.
A word of advice for anyone doing e. Only get the pure stuff (commonly called “mollies”). The comedown is far easier and it’s much safer. You usually tell if it’s pure by the fact that it’s in capsule form (though some impure stuff gets encapsulated), rather than pressed pill because pure MDMA is impossible to press into a pill.
I’ve always wanted to try mushrooms and weed just makes me stupid, but by far my favorite drug, though it can barely be called a drug, is whippets (Nitrous Oxide). It lasts a short time but man is it fun. Careful though, it’s by far the easiest way to kill of brain cells.
106. junkie-erik - January 27th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
when i took mushrooms i was with friends n i told em if any problems take care of me lol, like: dont let me jump in front of a car, and i waitd for like 40 min - 1 hour, i was like: fuck i got nothing from that fuckin mushroom
but then, i was in a park with friends, and i was looking at the clouds, and then they started moving, i saw so many forms, i saw faces, some of em were really scary, and some of em like came from the skies very close to me, sometimes i remember i jumped back thinkin they could hit me, i remember friends laughin (imagine if u see a friend of urs evading from nothing lol) , later on the trip got stronger and i went out of this world
sometimes u see things like.. revelations like the text there, its really this, and sometimes u go like: OMG, NOW EVERYTHING APAIRS TO MAKE SENSE -
OMG NOW I KNOW WHO IAM
its very comon for who takes mush tea or psy drugs
and sometimes its so shocking that u really feel a shocking wave running through ur body and a cold, like: the moment of the revelation of ur life
i remember friends sayin: man u spoke a lenguage that no1 understood and tons of other funny things lol
and NEVER take mush if u have to go home soon, never. do it if ur sleeping in friends house or somethin like tha.
lol, so, its really cool n i did it a lot of times.
cya

I’ve actually kind of wanted to try LSD just once. I’m terrified of “bad trips,” though. All the urban legends I’ve heard about the drug frighten me, but also entice me.
108. downhighway61 - January 30th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
mystern- ahahahahahahaha!!! whippets!
i haven’t though about those in awhile.
it makes your brain go “whoo whoo whoo” and your voice all slow, it’s hilarious!
(but very very pointless, no one else should do this and it’s been at least 7 years since i’ve even seen someone try it)
but thanks for the memories!!!

DH61: Whippets may be pointless but I love them. As my best friend put it, “Dude, everybody has their drug, and whippets are totally yours.”
Absolutely.

It may be legal but Salvia hits you really hard. Its like you are reduced to age 4 for about 10 or 15 minutes.
112. rational - February 7th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
hard drugs have no recreational use (crack, heroin, meth) but marijuana saves numerous lives from depression, pain, and numerous othet ailments… its a great alternative to some harsher “legal” drugs like benzos, and anti-psychosis like zyprexa, serequil. of course just like “legal” drugs there might be some adverse reactions in a small amount of people like the marijuana account listed above, but for the people who it works for it works. and as for hallucinegens (marijuana i cant see how anyone beleives is one… come on) are fun for those who are strong-willed enough to control there emotions, and want a truly out of this world experience. i mean come on you only live once, live it up and have fun!

115. Rylan - February 18th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
The following drugs absolutely did NOT get me high (and yes, I tried large doses of each multiple times): weed, amphetamines, benzodiazapines, percocet, diphenhydramine, and all of the major inhalents. Anyone else have a similar experience?
116. null - February 23rd, 2008 at 6:58 am
Why would you knowingly enjoy messing up your body?
I feel sorry for the Doctors that’ll have to waste their lives trying to keep you alive. No drug is truly safe because they all affect us in different ways, sometimes you don’t even know that your screwing yourself up because you don’t exactly have a window to see, do you?
Christ.
It’s because of these reasons I dread having kids, I don’t want to bring them into such a corrupt world.
117. Miss Destiny - February 23rd, 2008 at 8:38 am
If a doctor felt that way then why would they take the Hippocratic Oath?
As a doctor, it is one’s job to cure people, regardless of how they came to be in their condition. All people, not just whoever “deserves” it. I wouldn’t want such a biased individual caring for me, and I’m sober! As if we could decide who “deserves” to live or not. Whether God exists or not, I believe we don’t have the right to make that decision.
If doctors can’t keep their personal views from clouding their judgment then perhaps they should seek a new profession!
118. null - February 24th, 2008 at 5:52 am
In the UK they are thinking about refusing to give smokers NHS treatment, meaning they’ll have to go private and pay, and why? The government don’t start thinking about these things for no reason. We certainly have no right to choose who deserves treatment or not, and I wasn’t saying that. I was merely saying that without those cases in the first place more time can be spent on cases that people have no power over. Drugs are illegal for a reason.

hahahahahahaha lightweight
123. dirtyrockerlolo - March 19th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
my first time with weed was about like that… almost exact except for the fact that i was paranoid and i didn’t want people talking to me. i was PETRIFIED that someone was going to talk to me so i didn’t move for 3 straight hours (except to fall over and even then i maintained my stance… that was after my ex who gave it to me and his friend left to get me mcdonald’s). even when they did talk to me, i was fine. i didn’t want them to stop talking or anything, it was just after. and everytime i did move (maybe twice) i felt fine. its not like moving around when you’re drunk (that shit takes WORK) but you can move just fine..
side note… everyone should watch american beauty while high. there wasn’t anything weird about it or anything, it just… not so much calmed me but just chilled me.
NEVER AGAIN… i’ll just get drunk.
124. Vk - March 25th, 2008 at 11:23 am
drink alcohal instead of doing this shit
125. Jim - March 26th, 2008 at 1:49 am
i am thinking of doing LSD or SHROOMS because i find these two hallucinagents facinating, but has any one done these two or any past experiences? i have done weed very often and find it very nice and peaceful, should i try these drugs?
126. Jim - March 26th, 2008 at 1:59 am
get drunk before you smoke weed, and when you smoke it, have a lot, it is a very “cool” and “knocked out” feeling and time goes very slow, almost as if the affects of weed are enchanced. It is good. VERY GOOD!
127. Alex - March 29th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Jim, I have done LSD once, and that will be all I will ever need to do. You just need to be prepared to have a different outlook on life. You will never see life in the same way ever again. And you also have to consider that you will be tripping for literally several hours. There’s a lot that you can think about in this time frame. You can reach both the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. So once you take it, there’s no turning back. It’s really all about what Tim Leary talked about = the set and the setting. One last piece of advice, DO NOT listen to Mr. Bungle on LSD. It could make you go insane!

I’m sorry. Not to be rude, but whoever involves meth or any other drug in their daily agenda is a fucking dumb ass! Ya it’s ok to try it once but after that no!! Meth ruined my life! Not to mention what my family went through. Show you care and put an end to the addictions.
131. Scott H Florance - April 5th, 2008 at 6:56 am
I use to smoke pot in my early teens now Im slightly an air head. But I started sieng the spirit realm in 1987. The angel spirits are hard to see they can make colored spots up in the sky outside. But sometimes I wait about 30 seconds to see a colored spot up there. If I request a color of spot they will make the spot the color I want. They have instant telepathy so its easy. Colors blue , purple , violet green are sometimes shown with Quasie colors, halfway colors. If I asked to see the spot where an invisible alien craft is they can make a blip of colored energy right where its path in the sky is. If I want to see where a mothership in orbit is they make a small point of astral glow way up there to point out the alien ship.

133. Pablo - April 6th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Drugs, it is not wise to only categorize them as that. Some drugs are nobler than others. For instance, meth is just stupid as is crack. If the curiosity is too much, just do them once.
Also, when experimenting with drugs, be sure to not develop a habit. Drugs can feed the soul, but if you do too much, they will end up eating it. Remember that drugs are just that, drugs. Let them NOT become your life.
Another thing to remember is that the law of diminishing returns applies to drugs. The more you do, the less rewarding they become. Do not forget the fact that you can’t get the highs of the first experiences back.
Having said that, CHEERS!

That has to be the worst marijuana experience i have ever heard. I love this website and extremely pissed that you published that shit. And when i say shit i mean shit. Marijuana gives you a “high” this kid had a pschotic freakout. Plus if you take a big hit you cant hold it in for a minute, trust me I am frewuent in the ways of smoking. I also want to say that LSD, acid, is an incredible mental drug and think that everyone should take it once with someone they trust who has taken it before. It will open your mind and there should be no reason for it to be illegal, it afterall was invented by the american government.
136. Kyle The G - May 12th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Of all of those drugs I have done cocaine, ectasy, and marijuana. I would say my favorite is ecstasy, then marijuana, last cocaine. Ecstasy is good once and a while to do. Cocaine is just overprice shit not worth buying and I have really good stuff. Marijuana is awsome especially in Oregon.

that kid who smoked weed was def a beginner because i have smoked weed 7 years of my life and i have only had 3 freak out experiences on weed like that.. the first time was because we got baked and went to six flags on the medusa and that sucked because i feel like some final destination shit was about to happen.. the second time was when we went out into the middle of the woods at night already blazed as shit (stupid of us yeah i know ha!..) and nearly got lost but we made sure we had a buddy sober enough to take us back to the car before we completely freaked out and last but not least the last one is because we went to this abandoned house out in the middle of nowhere and smoked about an ounce between 8 people and yeah that was the worst one because another one of my friends took shrooms and it wasnt a friendly environment at all and he basically had a heart attack being in there lol! but any other time has been really cool except for the once in awhile cop stops ya while your tokin’
but i got over that in about the 2nd year i was smoking weed. and to whoever said i wonder what its like to mix all the drugs… well thats impossible as i have had a friend try to do that and we ended up having to take him to the hospital because he was having seizures (which was not cool at all) and he only mixed GHB with speed and only got to there before he had the seizures… and people do need to learn how much they can take before they need to stop… you can overdose on many of the drugs except maybe marijuana… the only time i think i “overdosed” on weed was when i was tokin away bowl after bowl basically like non stop for 2 hours and my nose started to bleed just for like a second or two… but i was blazed out of my fucking mind and eventually passed out… other than those occasions weed smoking has always left me happy
and still proud to be one too! 420 muthafuckas!!!

Wow that weed story was funny as hell. What a little bitch. he cant even handle weed haha.
Ive done all but meth herion and crack on this list. My favorite drug is bars (Xanax). I make straight A’s in school and drugs havent affected that at all. So for all of you people who think that drugs affect the outcome of your life you’re wrong. Its the attitude you have about life that often changes when drugs come into your life. If your attitude remains focused and outward then life is a breeze. I often think drugs have changed my life for the better. Especially x and lsdddd.

Let me just say one thing: tabaco kills, drinking kills. OVER THE COUNTER drugs kill. Marijuana does not. I wonder why they havent been banned? hmmm…. You dont even have to be pro- drug to agree that its insane.
147. RM - June 5th, 2008 at 4:14 am
and yes, the weed story: LAME. that doesnt happen unless your a weak pos, in which case you shouldnt touch drugs. Stupid ass stories like that making stuff look bad.
148. replier - June 5th, 2008 at 5:56 am
oi RM weed does kill moron it is deadly it rots ur brain tissue and can cause lung cancer it does the exact same thing the tobacco does except it does it a lil bit faster and most of the people who smoke pot smoke cigarettes aswell
so dont come on here and try to act smart
149. jasontimmer - June 12th, 2008 at 2:12 am
replier- no, weed does not kill. Look up your “facts” before you post them. Pot probably has some carcinogens like tobacco, but generally people don’t smoke NEAR the amounts of pot that they do tobacco. Whoever created this list could have taken a little more unbiased approach and included both one positive and one negative experience for each drug. Moreover, I don’t think substances like LSD and psylocibin belong on the same list as heroin and methamphetamine. They are used by entirely different demographics of substance users, seeking entirely different results.
150. em - June 12th, 2008 at 4:05 am
Can’t believe how much naieveity is out there ‘drugs are so cool, tokin is great’ you fucking retards, i started smokin ‘pot’ at 12 years old by 16 was having a nervous break down because of psychotic episodes brought on by guess what? pot! and probably copiuos amounts of LSD, speed and Ecstasy, that was back in the days when it still contained MDNA! I then turned to heroin because it helped me deal with my new found depression and anxiety, 15 years on I am a methadone user, still suffering from severe depression and anxiety and often suicidal tendencies, this all stems back to smoking pot, I’m not saying everyone who smokes a joint will end up a manically depressed smack head but it can happen trust me I thought smoking pot was cool and harmless till i started going mad, fact is that stuff can screw up lives especially if taken before the brain has matured, and to all those who say it doesnt kill check out the statistics on suicide in teenagers linked to cannabis psychosis, I might even join those statistics yet, so please dont tell me it doesnt kill, I may still be drawing breath but that shit is the theif of my life, fact.
151. jasontimmer - June 12th, 2008 at 6:07 am
em- you are a rare sort, one with serious mental disorders that would have surfaced with or without drug use. As far as “pot doesn’t kill”, why don’t you go check out the death rates of tobacco and alcohol, and hell, look up “automobiles” while you’re at it. I’m not condoning dangerous drug use, but shit man, wise up. Psychoactives like LSD and AMT and 5-MEO-DMT motivated me to get my shit together, go back to college, become a decent father, and live a respectable life. So don’t tell me that psychoactive substances are all fire and brimstone- my life is proof otherwise. They taught me valuable lessons about life that I’ll never forget.
152. habitualsmoker - June 17th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
For the person above you said marijuana was deadly, I respect your opinion (key word opinion). Obviously you are not a user, and if you are, you smoke shit midi’s. Get in a session of headies and we’ll see if you still feel the same. Right now, I’m tripping face on psilocybin. That is magical mushrooms. But hey, I’m 16, just got back from Bonnaroo, where i smoked so much dank green and having a blast. Go get your bible and try to convince other people elsewhere.

Your lack of spelling capability leads me to believe that you are not in fact a psychological analyst but a mere moron. At the age of 16 and 1/2 I have been smoking weed and cigarettes for a year and a half. Just this week I tried three new drugs, E, Speed and Hallucinogenic Mushrooms.<
